Chapter 16: We're Broken People

Josh's POV

  Ever since that first night on tour, things seemed to move so fast for the both of us. Panic! and Fall Out Boy killed it, and we enjoyed going up on stage together and pulling pranks on each other. I began to feel like they were becoming a second family to us. It just felt right to be surrounded by others who respected your work and went through daily struggles such as yourself. Tyler even seemed to be getting along with the crew, and he opened up more as the nights went on. It was the 5th night of touring and everyone was sitting together in the venue lounge. We still had roughly an hour before sound check.

  "Man, I just think that the courage you guys have to be able to get up in front of all those people and give them a show is awesome. It's still hard for me sometimes." Brendon told Tyler and I.

  "I know. It's like you're fine for a couple shows then here comes anxiety knocking at your door!" Patrick added.

  "Yeah. It's pretty crazy." Tyler smiled sheepishly looking down. "I just know that the crowd supports me and I need to relax. Plus having another person with you on stage helps a lot too."

  Pete smiled and nodded. "I'm sure Josh makes it tons easier. That's how it feels with the rest of the guys." Tyler's smile wavered, but only for a moment. "Yeah, Josh."

  "Hey, we all have our problems, and there's nothing wrong with that. We are the motivation for so many other people out there just like us. Little do they know, they help us as well in so many ways." Brendon smiled.

  "Wow, we really are a messed up bunch of guys aren't we? But we aren't screaming into microphones just for attention." Patrick laughed jokingly.

  "I feel you man." I added. "We're broken people."

  "Our brains are sick but that's ok." Tyler finally looked up and surveyed the room.

  "This guy tells it like it is!" Joe Trohman approved pointing at Tyler. Everyone nodded in unison and murmured agreements. No one heard as Tyler whispered "Our brains are sick..." again.

  "What was that?" I asked turning to him. Looking guilty he smirked, "Nothing."

  "I'm glad we can have talks like this." Brendon said. "The important thing about tours is having chemistry with who you're sharing a bus with."

  "Agreed!" I smiled. I liked Brendon. He was a really nice guy. A stage hand came into the room, "Ready for sound check when you guys are. TOP are up first." He told us. I stood up and stretched. My favorite part of the show so far was when Brendon and I backflipped together. It did take a toll on my back though. As we headed out Tyler nudged me.

  "I like this backflip bromance thing you and Brendon have going on." I laughed, "Bromance?"

  "The chemistry is undeniable." Tyler smirked. I shoved him away smiling. "Oh shut up."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  The night went on as usual, with epic show pranks along the way. The crowd screamed and cheered when we flipped. Tyler had told me that I wasn't the only one who should be having all of the fun.
  "What are you talking about?" I asked him.
  "I want to back flip too." He put it simply.
  "Pfft, no offense Ty, but since when did you learn to back flip?" I laughed a little.
  "Since, I don't know... right NOW!" Tyler climbed up onto his piano and before I could stop him he took the leap of faith. Trust me, I've never seen this kid do a flip in his life, let alone a back one. This could only end in tragedy.
  "Tyler no!" I reached out in alarm, but he was already air born. To my complete astonishment he stuck the landing. It was sort of graceful but he stumbled a bit. He turned to me and smiled proud of himself apparently.
  "Well?" He asked waiting.
  "Are you out of your mind!?" Clearly that wasn't the answer he wanted. A look of hurt flashed in his eyes. "Don't say that." He said softly.
  "I mean, that was a risky move you just did man! That could have ended extremely different!" I saw how crushed he clearly was, and realized I was being a jerk. I mean, he did make it. "I'm sorry, to be honest, that was amazing. Sick as frick! Giving me a run for my money!" A smile crept onto his face.
  "You really think so?"
  "Yeah! I mean, when did you learn?" I asked curious.
  "Well, you see I knew that you would challenge me, so I've been practicing. Honestly that was the first time doing it on the actual piano so I'm glad that worked out." He laughed to himself. Brendon, Patrick, and the rest of the gang entered the room.
  "WE HEARD VOICES, WHAT'S WRONG?!" Brendon screamed.
  "First off the yelling." Tyler joked and we all laughed. "Sorry." Brendon apologized.
  "Tyler just did the sickest back flip from his piano. It was really great." I explained.
  "Let's see." Dallon motioned. Tyler somehow managed to recreate the move from before.
  Brendon stood grinning off to the side. "I think we just found something to add into the show!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  "Did you hear that crowd go wild?! Tyler you are fantastic man!" Brendon kept gloating the whole night.

  "You weren't so bad yourself." Tyler smiled.

  "Seriously Josh, where did you find this guy?" Brendon put an arm around me as we walked backstage.

  "Too be honest, he is secretly a run away from the circus." I answered.

  "Knew it." He nodded seriously. We laughed and joked the rest of the night.

  "Hey Tyler! We might need to recruit Brendon as an honorary secret member of Twenty One Pilots." I grinned.

  "You're right, he knows to much anyway for us not to." He ran with it.

  "Right, can't let him escape!"

  "Or we might have to kill him." Tyler nodded distantly. He then smiled after a moment. "Right Josh?"

  "Nah, his talent would be missed too much." I replied. His smile faltered as he stood up.

  "Well tonight's been great but I should head to my dressing room. Pack up for the night ya know?" With that he left. It was just me alone for awhile after that until I decided that I should do the same. With all of us guys sharing a bus scheduling was tight, we all had to be packed up at a certain time before we hit the road. On my way down the hall I bumped into Brendon.

  "Hey Josh! I'm about to load up." He said.

  "Same here." I told him. I was about to keep going when I heard Brendon say more.

  "Oh and Josh? Check on Tyler for me would ya, I heard him talking to himself." My smile instantly dropped. "I mean I'm sure it's nothing, but you know." He shrugged at me then carried on. Just when I thought things were looking up, what I feared was happening again. I'm sure it's nothing, he may have heard wrong. But this wasn't alright, not if Tyler's mysterious conversations were starting up again.

  Even worse, the others over hearing. If this really was a problem, I had to try to find out what was wrong before it got bigger.
