Beyond Purgatory (Challenge 1)

The linen felt thick and rough under my fingers but I didn't care. After waiting for God knows how long, I had finally managed to wrangle a table and planned to enjoy myself. Surprisingly, I don't remember how I got here. What I do know is that I am firing my travel agent when I get back! The price, he charged me he must be a demon straight from hell. He booked me at a hotel called 'At Peace' which doesn't even serve meals. So, here I am, at the 'Sojourn'.

"Can I take your order?" interrupted a redhead waitress.

"But where's the menu?"

"You don't need one" said the black haired, apron waisted, young man jumping off the next table. "There are only two options".

"Only two ... what kind of a place is this? No one wonder it's empty!"

Both exchanged glances as though they were having a secret conversation which I was not privy to. I will not put up with service like this.

"I am leaving!"

"You can't" replied the redhead impatiently shaking her waves and clicking her red heels. "You're dead!"

"Oh! real subtle" he grimaced. I felt like puking on his shiny black shoes. "There's nothing to be done about that. You have to decide what to do next."

"Decide!" the redhead bellowed.

"How? Decide what ... I am dead ... oh ... is that why I don't remember?" I looked at the two standing before me. "You're an angel ... or a demon ..."

"Not very bright, is he? This is going to take longer than expected." She loudly whispered. "How about we get you your meal?" I could only nod. An eerie stillness encompassed me and I was thankful that they returned instantly with covered plates. It felt like a creepy version of MasterChef.

"You'll like this!" said the redhead, revealing frozen vanilla ice cream. I gaped while mumbling "Dessert before dinner?" The blue-eyed waiter held a brave expression as he lifted the cover revealing Ceasers Salad. "Wait a minute! This is ridiculous. ...You're talking about eternity and it's based on this." I indicated to the two plates.

"That's not all!" She pulled out a red cooking torch. I pushed back. "Watch" She gave me a devilish smile. I was awestruck as the flames engulfed the ice cream. I wondered if sin had engulfed my life as well but then I would never know. I gaped at the ice cream on fire.

"You know what is right. The choice is ultimately yours" his peaceful voice broke the spell. I pulled the salad to me as steam emanated from the redhead's body. She stepped back into a crimson abyss which swallowed her up whole disappearing as quickly as it had appeared. The waiter untied his white apron and gave me his hand.

My only thought was Can you imagine causing a little bit of mischief in heaven ... I mean what would they do ... send you to hell, right?
