What Keeps You Up at Night
At three A.M., I found out George Washington never knew what a dinosaur was. I realized MLK never shook hands with the first black president. Steve Jobs will never get to create an A.I. Bill Nye might never meet an E.T. Bill Nye, The Science Guy, could miss out on a pivotal point in scientific history! If these frontrunners of American history are missing out, then what could I be missing?
I've always been curious about everything from why's the sky blue to what really went down in Roswell. Trust me when I say, I get an answer. Molecules scatter blue light and weather balloon's are UFOs (or just weather balloons). But answers were just enablers, causing me to ask more questions like what do I want to be when I grow up? To this day, I want to be a teacher, an astronaut, an actor, a spy, POTUS, and more. I look online and see infinite bundles of knowledge waiting to be consumed. I could teach myself to code, learn Korean, or write and publish my own story! My generation is the first to be able to google any question of our choosing! But what if there's a question out there I didn't know I could ask? What if there's hobbies I still have yet to learn? What if my dream career is out there, but has yet to be invented?
All my life I've been taught not to waste an opportunity; I'm afraid that's become a fear of mine. I feel like I've been given the chance to do literally anything I set my mind to, but that's too many opportunities. There are too many careers that could change the world. I could strive to cure cancer, end world hunger, travel through space and time, fix the government, and so much more. Now, which do I choose, or do I try and do it all? If it takes ten thousand hours to master a skill, and I have an incomprehensible amount of skills to pick from, how am I supposed to master it all? I could spend my life trying to become immortal, but that's no fun. Having a clock that's running out pushes me to get things done.
I'm constantly tossing and turning to live up to the greats. I look up to those who fought for what they believed in. Washington didn't know about dinosaurs, but he had the blessing of establishing the country that is the U.S.A. MLK didn't meet the first black President, but he was able to help bring the advent of racial equality. Jobs will never create an A.I., but he had the pleasure of bringing the Iphone into existence. Bill Nye might never meet an alien, but he will forever be The Science Guy! If I miss out on some major parts of history, oh well; it doesn't mean I won't have a chance to make history. But I should probably get some sleep first.
