This Chapter of Bluey's Kaleidoscope is called:
•[Seeds]•
"Higher!" Bingo laughed and kicked up her feet as you swung her up off the ground.
"Whoosh!" You did this every few seconds until you guys reached the entrance to Bingo's school. "Aaaand she sticks the landing!" You gently placed Bingo on the ground. Chilli, Bandit, and Bluey finally catch up.
"(Y/n), do you think I'll be able to reach for the sky someday?" Bingo lets her Mom rub sunscreen on her face and arms.
You kneel down to her level, "Not reach for the sky, but I know someday, you'll be able to touch the sky if you keep practicing, Beeboo." You held out a fist to her. Once she touched her fist with yours, you two blew a raspberry and she giggled uncontrollably. "Have fun, Bingo!"
She waved and let out her 'I love you's.
"Now, Bluey's next stop to fame—" You try to think of an idea, since Bingo was pretending to be a famous gymnast.
"Silly Dancing!" Bluey piped up.
"Choreography! You can make up moves to music." You say and hold her hands, waving both your arms up and down while jumping around.
Bluey cheers and casually spins away, making up moves while going to the car. "Hey, Mum! Can I be a...a—what (Y/n) said?"
"If you want to be." Chilli responded warmly.
"Hooray! Ah!" Bluey giggled as you spun her around like a ballerina.
"You would make everyone happy by showing them to dance their hearts out." You held her in your arms now and helped her into the car seat. You buckle your seatbelt as Bandit begins to drive to Bluey's school.
"Dance their hearts out?" Bluey hummed. "That doesn't sound too pleasant. I would show everyone to dance with their hearts close to them. Then they can dance for much longer." She explained and bops her head to the radio. "I love dancing to music."
Everyone knew that and it's easy to tell that Bluey loves anything that's fun. You honestly can't feel anything bad for too long with her around. The small heeler silently asks for your hand and she starts drawing on it again. Something about being a tattoo shop keeper. Time most likely didn't wait for you two once you realized the car parked in front of Bluey's school.
"(Y/n), are you going to school today?" Bluey slips on her backpack and holds your hand.
"Not today, but I'll be back very soon." You say and watch two pups run up to Bluey. A black and white border collie and a dalmatian. You're introduced to them by your little sister and they greet you back with happy wagging tails. Mackenzie and Chloe were their names.
"Can you play tag for a short bit?" Chloe asked.
You agreed although you changed it to freeze tag. Soon, the other kids that began showing up to school joined in.
~*•*~
Chilli is walking ahead to greet a female australian shepherd who watched the game of freeze tag. "Hi, Calypso. Another good start of the day, ain't it?" She watched as the game switched to all the kids trying to freeze you.
"If the morning starts out fun, then it definitely is a good day." Calypso chuckled when all the children piled on top of you when you stopped to take a breather. "Is there something you need, Mrs. Heeler?"
Chilli held her arm anxiously and sighed. She didn't need to before, but she didn't need a little help from the teacher. "Don't get me wrong. Everything is even more amazing at home with our addition to the family."
Calypso placed a hand on Chilli's arm, "You're right. Just look at them now and they're making the most effort with you and your family. Bluey was really worried for them the other day and asked what she could do to help."
"That's Bluey for ya."
"Yeah. A wonderful girl." Calypso smiled, "I'm guessing you need some advice?"
"Well....(Y/n) needs help with an art project and it's a bit of a pickle."
"I see." Calypso walks toward the doorway with Chilli, "Bring them by again when you pick up Bluey. I'm sure they'll appreciate the little help."
~*•o-*~
Each of the kids began heading inside once they noticed their teacher waiting by the door. You wave to all of them after following them up to the front patio.
Bluey skids to a stop and turns back around, "Super Tight Hug!"
"Can't forget to hug your Big Bubby, huh?" You hug her tightly, then gently bop her nose. "See you after school, Bluey-Belle."
"And you have fun with Mum and Dad today. See ya!" Bluey skips inside.
Chilli walks beside you down the path, only to suddenly start to run. "Race you to the car!"
"Wah-Hey!" You chase after her. "You got a head start AND second fact, you're much faster than me!" You knew she had to be fast because she worked as security for the airport. "Chilli!"
"Oh boo-hoo! I'm not slowing down, Kiddo!" She reached the gates near the drop off roundabout, only to stop when Bandit drove off. She scoffed, "Bandit Heeler!"
You stop beside her, breathing heavily and laughing.
Bandit came back around and rolled down the window with a smug grin, "Aren't you cheeky, Babe. Pulling a fast one on, (Y/n)."
"I could say the same thing about you, Babe. Pulling a prank like that." She rolled her eyes playfully.
You stick your tongue out, "Kiss already and let us be on the road, Lovebirds." You hop back into the car with Chilli.
"Someone's jealous. Do you need a smoochy kiss?" Bandit puckered his lips.
"Ew!" You laugh and raise your fingers to give a hard flick at him, but he pulls away to start driving. "Leave your kisses for the missus. She'll appreciate it more." You lean over between their seats and point at the radio. "Can I have a go at the tunes?"
"Go for it, Kid." Bandit says while Chilli helped with connecting your phone to the radio.
You give a small cheer and start playing your music playlist on shuffle. The previous families didn't really approve of your taste in music, so you always used earbuds. Most of their kids liked it, though some made fun of you.
Bandit and Chilli are glad you're starting to express yourself more and they hope you continue to do so. They join in whenever you sing out and even do the backup sounds or vocals. The three of you were having fun and you guys howled out the open windows when pulling into a multi storey parking building. Your howls echoed along with your laughs and the sound of the car doors shutting.
"That car ride was too quick." The car beeped, indicating that it's locked and Bandit stretched.
"Boop!" You grin at the echo. "Bee-oop!"
"What are you doing?" Chilli snickered and pats your head.
"I like hearing the echoes." You shrug nonchalantly.
Chilli adjusts the handbag on her shoulder. "Always great acoustics."
"FRRT!"
You and Chilli turn around to look at Bandit.
"Aw man. I've been holding that one in for a while. What was it that you said about acoustics?" Bandit tried to be clueless.
"Hurry to the elevator! When there's one, there's a second!" Chilli dragged you to the elevator and you two left behind Bandit. "You do not want to be stuck in the elevator with him when he's got the fluffies."
You laughed, "Fluffies? Is that what you call farts?"
"It's silly, but yes." Chilli giggled.
"What errands do you guys have today?" You ask while stepping out of the elevator.
"Just sending off some important letters and go shopping for some things for you."
"Hey! Did you two just leave me behind?" Bandit pops out from the elevator. "Very rude." He pouts.
You poke his side, "It's also very rude when you, so called 'Fluffied' and did not excuse yourself. Very naughty." You tsked and wagged your finger at him.
Bandit chuckled and hugged your head. "Alright. You got me again, Kiddo. Although, I won't make any promises about doing it again."
A walk outside was great though there was traffic here and there, which is why Bandit and Chilli used the parking lot building. They were talking to each other about doing something creative for the backyard, but your mind zoned out once you took in the view of the place. Usually, most of the adoptive parents you've been with kept you behind them, almost like they didn't want to include you in any activities or errands. Sometimes you were watching their kids for them. Sometimes you minded, sometimes you didn't.
Except them.
"What do you think, (Y/n)?"
You snap out of it and look at Chilli. "Hm?"
"We are talking about building a pond in the backyard." Chilli clarified. "Which would mean you might have fun with a stump fest—"
"STUMPFEST!" Bandit shouts.
"YEAH!" A few dogs randomly around the street cheer back.
You snicker and try not to be slightly embarrassed.
"As I was saying. Maybe you'll have fun pulling out tree stumps, you can invite your friends over too." Chilli continued on while you guys stroll into the post office.
"Seems just as fun as Hammerschlagen."
Bandit's tail wagged, "Far out! I've tried that once while in the field with a few of my partners. Man, did we get hamm- Oof!" His muzzle is nudged by a couple of letters.
"Calm down, Hot Shot." Chilli scolded with amusement in her eyes.
You pat Bandit's arm, "Don't worry. I get it. You had a lot of fun." The gift section of the post office caught your attention, so you wander off to look at the trinkets. The pencil with eraser toppers seemed like something Bluey and Bingo would take interest in. "A frog and...a fish." Luckily, you still had some money to buy the pencils.
"Now, that's done. How's about we look around the small shops, then get lunch?" Chilli noticed the two pencils in your hand. "Oh, those are adorable. I can carry it in my bag if you want. Don't want to lose them when we're walking around." She held open her bag.
You nod.
~*•*~
"Any of these lunchboxes catch your eye?" Bandit looks over the shelf of lunchboxes. "Something cool looking? Mini cooler?"
"I think I'll stick with your old lunch box. It's much more awesome." You say and walk over to the bags. "Maybe a new bag and a water bottle."
"What about a new beanie?" Chilli turns around with a sunset colored knit beanie on her head. "Let's try sunglasses as well." She models in front of the small mirror. "And this flannel."
"Looking good, Babe." Bandit winks at her.
You shake your head and feel a little embarrassed, "Bingo and Bluey would be cooing at you guys right now. And me? I would say get a room."
They laugh and hold out their arms to you. "Aw. Well, luckily we've got a lot more love for you."
"Not this time." You go to run out, but Bandit picks you up so you don't escape.
He shakes you back and forth. "We'll be outside, Hon. Don't want to knock anything around." Bandit takes you outside the shop then proceeds to try to tickle you, but you end up doing the same thing. "I won't go down that easily, Mate."
"Neither will I, Tubby Dumpling."
Bandit gasps loudly and yet again with a dramatic effect.
Chilli watched the interaction from the shop window as the cashier rang up the items you wanted and something for herself. She smiled lovingly and chuckled once the two of you hugged it out after the small wrangling.
"Babysitting?" A female customer asked from beside Chilli.
"Nah. Just shopping for my pup's school necessities."
"Ah, a different parent then? Sometimes the first one doesn't want the child." The dog replied.
"What? Oh no! It's nothing like that." Chilli tried to laugh off the bad feeling that came from that comment. Although, for some reason, her motherly instinct was going crazy and she raised a brow at the female dog, not saying anything more.
"I'm sorry. Sometimes stuff just comes flying out of my mouth." Her fingers tap on her crossed arms. "Well, I hope you have a great day."
"Yeah. You as well." Chilli shook her head and walked out. "Who's ready for more shopping? I have a feeling you two are getting hungry, based on your playful squabbling." She rolled her eyes while handing Bandit the shopping bag and held her paw out to you.
"Definitely could use some grub." You say and subconsciously take her hand. "Do I have certain restrictions like Bluey and Bingo? I'm always wondering about that."
Bandit holds your other hand, "So far, no. You understand enough to know what's bad or good, though sometimes we'll come in every now and then."
"We'll let you know, Sweetheart. For now, just enjoy yourself." Chilli adds in and swings your arms calmly. "Let's find a few things to decorate your room, yeah?"
Time decided to be on your side today because you actually enjoyed taking a look at different stores. At most times, all of you would be silly. The one story that took up most of the hour was the toy store, which you and Bandit stumbled through the prank section.
"This one sounds like you." You squeeze the whoopie cushion.
"Unreal, BUT it's more like this." Bandit pressed a button on the toy that had different sound effects on it.
"I dare you to try this gum." You hold out the shocking gum.
"Nah, Mate. You try it, you'll be quite SHOCKED by the taste." Bandit smirked.
"I insist. The first stick is always ELECTRIFYING."
Chilli just watches on the side lines and shakes her head with amusement. "Are you two dorks finished? We're going to one more store before late lunch."
"Wait." You rush over to another section of the toy store and come back holding up the Magic 8 Ball with a metal slinky in the other. "Will it be okay if I get these?" When Chilli nods, you feel your tail wagging and didn't realize you're practically hopping over to the cash register.
~*•*~
Within the bookstore, it was decently calming and the two Heelers kept an eye on you every now and then since your attention was fully on the Magic 8 Ball. They were just browsing and you were getting a little frustrated with the ball. Well, you were asking really dumb questions and random questions, but it always kept saying; "Can't predict now.", "Don't count on it.", "Concentrate and ask later."
You huff and put it away in the shopping bag, taking a look at your favorite section of the bookstore. Your attention was now on the random quizzes within the magazine aisle just for the fun of it.
"You need more friends. Go out there and get them, Tiger? Only if it was that easy." A calming, yet glum sigh came from someone near you.
You glance at the teen dog beside you.
He was a brown dingo and wore a white polo shirt with a dark colored blazer tied around his waist. A school uniform, maybe? It seemed like he was there to pass the time and look at the quizzes in the magazines too. He puts the magazine back and grabs another one and takes a seat on the floor.
You turn back to look for a kiddy magazine, not noticing the shopping bag tearing at the bottom and the magic 8 ball rolls toward the teen dingo.
"Mate? I think your shopping bag is ripped at the bottom."
You look down and groan. "Aw man. I hope nothing else has fallen out." You pick up the small stuff you got for your room and the slinky that was still boxed.
"It's going to be a bother carrying all of that around the place. Come on, let's get another bag from the checkout counter."
At the counter, the dingo purchased a tote bag and held it open for you. "This is more durable and it's easy to put everything inside. Beats the plastic and paper bags. Sorry if it's sorta plain looking." He said with an embarrassed scratch to his neck.
"It's alright, Dude. I'm sure my little sisters will happily decorate it if I ask." You chuckle at the thought and hold out a hand for a shake. "Thanks for buying the bag. You didn't have to, but you know, thanks. Uh...is there a way I can pay you back?"
The dingo smiled kindly and shook your hand. "You're welcome. Honestly, I love helping when I can. There's no reason to pay anything back, Mate."
"Are you sure?" You say with hesitation. "I can ask my...my parents." That last word felt so foreign coming out of your mouth, but felt good as your mouth twitched to a smile. "I'm sure they can help."
"Actually, you don't mind if I ask the Magic 8 Ball a question?"
"Go for it." You notice one side of his hand is bandaged as he shakes the ball. "Do you go to a High School?"
He looks down at his uniform, "Yeah. Not the best, as you can tell from the uniform, but just this year left and I'll be out of there."
"Oh...I've never seen you at my school since we don't wear uniforms. I'm honestly surprised and glad that I'm happy to go to school. It's a bit different from where I'm from."
"That's great. Feeling happy about the place you want to be is the best decision that you'll ever choose. Wait...I'm slightly curious. It's a school day, what is a high schooler doing out shopping at a bookstore?" He asked politely.
You stick your tongue out in thought, "I'm not ditching, so my best guess....I have an injury from my first day at school. I had a rough smooch with a soccer ball." You give a goofy grin, "Jostled my brains around like the dice in the Magic 8 Ball. So, 'Outlook, not so good'." You joke.
That made the teen dingo chortle out a playful laugh. "Sorry. I'm not making fun of you, but your explanation was silly." He gave the ball back and held up his injured hand. "If you're wondering, this injury is why I had to be relieved from the rest of the school day."
"Seems like you got your hand slammed between a locker."
Immediately, he tensed up. "Y-Yeah. Ya sure hit the nail on the head on that one."
One word is what you've always known for too long at his behavior.
Bullies.
"Those lockers are always so insensitive." A low growl came from you.
He couldn't help it and snickered, "I thought you were going to say the F-word."
You blink and laugh sheepishly, "Oh, I was about to, but I'm trying to watch my foul language now that I have Little Sisters." You now present a book of recent world records. "Wanna take a look at this while we wait for our paternal guardians to finish their book searching?"
"Sounds like fun." His tail wagged at your invite and both of you took a seat at the beanbag area.
"Half of these are just so eh." You shrug and flip through the pages. "I could do a bunch of world record things if I wanted to....Buuuut, I would get lazy half way through. I can even be lazy while being lazy." You definitely were just brain dead now and glanced at the teen dingo beside you, who still flipped through the book. "What's your name again?"
He met your eyes and he chuckled, "I'm sorry. I don't think we even said our names. My name's Alfie."
"(Y/n). Anyway, ALFIE, what would your world record be?"
Alfie hummed in thought, "Achieve Peace around the world in a day. Actually, at least in a time frame of a year. That would be world breaking news that no one else has achieved."
"Wow. That's a really good one that actually matters to everyone." You softly punch his arm, "Dude, you're one of the ones who can achieve anything when they put their mind to it. You still see the good."
"Alfie. Are you ready to go, Sweetie?"
Both of you see the older female dingo, her fur was orange and white. You almost thought it might be Chilli or her sister. From behind here, you see Chilli and Bandit purchasing a book of their own liking at the counter. "I'm about to leave too."
Alfie glanced at you, dejected at the departure and nodded. "See ya, (Y/n). It was fun hanging out with you."
"Yeah....do you have a phone?" You take out yours and pull up the new contacts screen.
"I do, why?" Alfie was surprised when you held out your phone to him.
"I think you'll enjoy being friends with me. I'll warn you now, once you agree, you will be dragged into the chaotic fun and shenanigans of (Y/n) C. Heeler." You were just as dramatic as Bandit.
"Bring it on, Mate." Alfie accepted and saved his number in your phone. "What's the C stand for?"
You shrug and smile while typing a message to Alfie's phone, "No idea. That's the middle initial of all my paperwork while my last name kept changing."
~*•o•*~
Lunch tasted amazing and this whole day was more enjoyable than you realized. Of course there were times the anxiety tried to take hold of you, but Bandit and Chilli had actually helped. They said to let them know when you didn't want to be there or if anything was bothering you. You did, except for one detail that woke each anxious nerve.
Maybe it was your imagination, but you thought there was a female dog following you guys the whole day while shopping.
You stared out the car window as you guys made your way to Bingo's school. After leaving the Red Hook for lunch, Chilli had gone to the restroom and you could immediately tell she looked....strained? Unwell? She hides it well from Bandit, but you can feel that energy coming off her.
Chilli nearly dozed off until there's a tap on her shoulder from the backseat. She smiled and felt better when you were offering your hand to hold.
Bandit parked and said he'll be back to get Bingo, finally noticing the low spirits of his wife.
"Will you be okay?" You were a bit afraid to ask. "Is there something I did to make you upset?"
Chilli quickly looked back at you in surprise at you, "(Y/n), Sweetheart. No. You did nothing wrong." She squeezes your hand, "I think I ate something that my stomach isn't agreeing with. I'll be alright."
Bingo barks to announce her presence while Bandit helps her in the car seat. You immediately show her the pencil you got her and she grew more happy at the frog eraser topper. She sang a random tune about a frog hopping along a pond and meeting friends.
"♪ Happy Little Froggy hopping along the pond. Merrily, merrily, merrily. Off to make new friends! ♪" She giggled.
Next stop was Bluey's school. You were texting your friends in a group chat, which you happened to invite Alfie and it led to planning a hang out at someone's house. Don't know who's yet.
"(Y/n)?"
You look up from your phone as the car parked in the round about to Bluey's school.
"Bluey's teacher wants to meet you. Will you be alright talking with her by yourself?" Chilli asked.
You were unsure about it, only able to nod and get out of the car with them. You wished you had gone to a school like this when you were younger. Bingo and Bandit joined in a game with Bluey and Mackenzie, they waved at you in greeting.
"We'll be out on the grass and when you're ready to go, just let us know. We won't leave without you." Chilli rubbed her paw over your ear and made her way to stroll around the area.
The wooden wind chimes gently harmonized with the sound of birds, laughter, and...humming? Your ear twitched at the soothing, melodic hums coming from behind you.
On the top steps, the female Australian Shepherd sat on a pillow and seemed to be crafting something from some type of clay. The colors were tempting and the fidgeting in you wanted to fiddle with it. Almost childlike. "Do you want to have a go? There's plenty of beeswax clay here for anything you want to build."
You take a seat across from her and grab for the clay, intruding by the feeling of it. You began to squeeze the thin rectangular pieces as it began to mold with your movements.
"It's amazing how, with a little warmth and some patience, you can create anything you can put your mind to." She placed a modeling of a tree in the middle of you two. "It's not really perfect, but is there anything you'd like to add to it? I know there are tons of tree types, so I don't have an idea what to add."
You hum in thought, picking up a yellow piece and start to mold a lot of small things from all the clay.
Calypso waited patiently and began to make another clay creation, humming once again.
It was a little frustrating when you realize the things you were creating didn't all grow on the same tree. You let out a quiet growl and go back to molding something different, taking a glance at Bluey and Bingo. They probably wouldn't even think too much on something so simple.
"It's a lot, isn't it?" A silly, but simple replica of the Glasshouse school is put in the middle near the tree. "My favorite things wouldn't be able to fit on the tree, especially when most of my favorite things aren't things at all, but my students." She taps the clay school, "But sometimes it's what I enjoy when I watch over them. Their stories, their games, their imagination. All of that isn't meant to be held in one place."
You watch her point to the tree.
"What they feel and express in all the places they love to be is what matters most. It could be here at the school, out there in the open, the park, the library, everywhere out in the world. Sometimes even their favorite places could be out in the universe." Her voice was so soothing to listen to and her movements made it even better like she was telling a great story. "It could even be someone or others."
"Dad! Look, a frog!" Bluey held up a green frog to her Dad, but it hopped right onto his face as he screamed. They all laughed as Bandit grimaced at it when Chilli tried to show him it was harmless.
"(Y/n)! Dad is scared of a frog!" Bluey shouted while giggling with Bingo.
Bandit scoffed, "No, it's just that it's slimy!"
"It's not slim, it's mucus!" You shout back and snicker at them.
The girls looked confused and Chilli must have explained something before they screamed and ran away from the frog. Yelling something about Frog Boogers.
"They're so silly, aren't they?" Calypso slowly puts away the leftover beeswax clay. She gets up with the box and smiles warmly at you. "Can you craft a seed for me? I'm going to put the leftover beeswax away."
You nod, glancing down at the clay you had left over which wasn't much and decide to mash your tiny creations to make a palm sized looking seed with different colors blending randomly.
It probably would look like a crazy kaleidoscope inside.
"Wow. Now that is great work, (Y/n)! It looks very colorful and so unique. No one would be able to replicate that." She kneels down in front of you and cups your hands on hers, so your clay seed is cradled in your palms. "I have another favor for you, (Y/n)."
You give her another nod, actually feeling happy at her praise from your not so perfect sees creation.
"Wherever you go and whoever you're with, think about how you feel in that moment. Does it help you feel safe, happy, and wanted?"
You and Calypso watch the Heeler family again.
Bingo and Bluey held their parents' hands, trying to pick up their pace as they were making their way to you.
"Do they help you feel safe, happy, and wanted?" Calypso watched from the steps of her school as you raced over to them. She absolutely loved helping anyone, especially the younger ones and those who needed it most. It's never too late to ask for help.
"Bye, Calypso! See you tomorrow!" Bluey waved.
You give her a happy wave as well.
The Australian Shepherd gives a wave back with a joyful smile of her own, taking a seat on a wooden stool she brought out and began crocheting. The breeze brushed her fur gently as if congratulating her on another job well done. "There will still be tough moments, (Y/n).....but I hope you know that you will not be going through them alone."
