Ch.4

"(Y/n)!! Think fast!!"

Automatically, your ears flatten at the incoming soccer ball that's straight in your line of view.

That is definitely going to hurt.

The loud smack made your group react with concern and grimace as you fell backwards. Sports and physical activities were decently OKAY, though sometimes it can be too unexpected and slightly harmful if you're not in the right mindset.

"Oh la vache." The badger colored pyrenees next to you, shook his head and adjusted his glasses to get a better look at you. "Are you okay, my friend?"

Two of the older students rushed over and helped you carefully. "Let's take you to the nurse."

You didn't even want to move or attempt to talk.

(Bluey and Bingo)
This Chapter of Bluey's Kaleidoscope is called:
•[Hospitals]•

"Yes. Don't worry, Mrs. Heeler. They're laying on a bed right now, although I suggest taking them to the hospital, just in case. They got a little...well, slightly violent with the older students that brought them here. I had a feeling that wasn't normal behavior. Might be from the concussion." The school nurse said to the red heeler.

Chilli grew worried and followed the nurse to the room with the beds, the lights were dimmed and one of your first friends that you meet here, sat by your bed.

"Hi, Mrs. Heeler." He whispered, then signed with his hands to the nurse, saying that you were okay so far.

"Hello." Chilli smiles briefly before checking you over, noticing you keep removing the ice pack. "Sweetie, you need to keep that on. At least until we're able to get another one from the hospital."

You give her a grumpy stare and mumble. "It's too cold."

The brown cavapoo with a white fur chest, rolled his eyes. "Bruh. You're just saying that so you won't need to hold it to your head. Your mom's here to pick you up anyway." He grinned kindly at Chilli. "I'm Theo, by the way. (Y/n)'s—"

You boop his nose and snort. "Ha. Theophilus."

Theo glanced at you unamused and turned away with his arms crossed. "Get this pup out of my sight."

"I'm not the one being a pouty pup."

Theo signed at the nurse again and she nods while looking at Chilli. "Your child's attendance has been excused for the day. I hope they'll recover safely."

"Of course." Chilli slowly helps you to sit up right. "Honey, we're heading to the car now, I think it's best to pull your hood up to block out the bright light." She firmly yet gently wrapped an arm around you which you lean into her side easily.

"Okay, Mum. Mmmmuuummm..." You laugh quietly. "Mom, Mummy, Mootha, Matha. Mother, I crave violence."

Theo facepalms and groans, "Do not take anything they say out of their mouth seriously, Mrs.Heeler." He hands Chilli your backpack. "I'll pick up the schoolwork they missed today. Also, don't mention H-O-M-E around them, right now. They got really...paranoid."

"Will do. Thank you, Theo. Though hopefully we'll meet under better conditions." Chilli raises a brow down at you when you bury your forehead against her side.

You feel slightly better from Chilli's hand caressing your covered head.

>*•*<

Bandit was watching videos on his phone when there's a bang on the car window next to him. "Ah!" He nearly drops his phone, successfully catching it and looking up to meet your face.

"You. Are NOT the father!" You point at him.

"Uh..." Bandit gave Chilli a confused look. "Not going to question it, but crikey, mate. Did that ball knock your brains out?" He turns to look back at you as Chilli helps buckle you in the backseat.

You held your head, "Ball?"

"Yeah. You're definitely going to the hospital, Kiddo." She gives you a small bottle of water and a small baggie of snacks.

Bandit starts driving once Chilli buckles in. "First day of school and not even half a day, they get a head injury." He glanced back at you as you tried to keep your eyes open.

"Where are we going?" You ask, then notice the two car seats that you're in between. "Are we picking up other kids again?"

Chilli and Bandit looked at each other, confused at your wording. "I hate to keep asking them questions like this, but....Sweetie, do you know where you are?"

"Not really. Just in a car, I guess. Half of the time I have no idea where I go. I just follow whoever they tell me to go with."

"Who is 'they'?" Bandit asked.

You didn't answer and fiddled with the leather bracelet on your wrist. The road that led to Bluey's school went by and the moments from this morning's breakfast came flowing back into your head. "Can we get Bluey and Bingo? I feel more comfortable with them."

"Sorry, Kid. We've gotta let them finish the rest of school today. They'll be waiting back home—"

"—at the house! We promise they'll be happy when you get back." Chilli cut off Bandit, but frowned with worry as your grip tightened on your bag. "(Y/n). I promise, you're in no trouble, whatsoever. We want to make sure you're okay."

You sigh and barely make an agreeable sound.

>*EARLIER•THIS•MORNING*<
>*•*<

Bluey and Bingo woke up a bit earlier than their parents' alarm clock, which was almost half of the time. "Bluey! Let's go wake up, (Y/n), first!"

"Yeah! Maybe they'll let us help them get ready for their first day of school!"

The two girls squealed and rushed into your room, jumping onto your bed. "(Y/n)! Wake up! It's your first day of school!" They said together, though tilts their head when you cover your head with your blanket.

"I don't feel too good. Get ready without me." You mumble.

"Aw! Would breakfast help?" Bluey asked, only to receive a no.

"Do you need an extra minutes of resting your eyes? Dad and Mum say that when they're still trying to get up." Bingo suggested and is still getting used to her wording.

There's a brief pause and you nod, nearly freaking out when Bluey and Bingo sit under the covers with you. It was like a tent now. "Are you really sick? Or are you just pretending? Poke." Bluey poked your forehead.

Bingo giggled and poked your muzzle. "Poke."

You huff and lazily poked them back before yawning. "Sorry. I am still sleepy, but also....I don't really want to go to school."

"Why?" They asked.

You nearly fall back asleep until the girls poke your nose. "I'm scared to go by myself. You two don't like doing something by yourself if you're scared, right."

They nod. "But usually we have someone we know to help us."

"Well, sometimes you won't have someone there to help you and it's really scary. Especially going somewhere with kids older than you and going into a place that's so big that you might get lost."

Bluey and Bingo glance at each other, having a small vague memory of their first time going to school. They remember being scared, but also remember having their friends there or encouragement from their Mum and Dad. Maybe they could help, it's what siblings were for.

"It won't be for too long. Right, Bluey?" Bingo held your hand.

Bluey nods with a smile, "Of course not. It would be outrageous if you don't get to go home after school. Me and Bingo can help you feel better when all of us get home later."

"We'll be saving BIG hugs when we see you." Bingo throws up her arms.

You tickle her sides and roll your eyes playfully, "Hopefully, not like when you guys dog-piled on me."

Bingo laughed with Bluey. "You never know!"

"Oh dear. I still feel so very tired. I think I'll sleep a few minutes on this EMPTY cozy bed, while the kids are getting ready." Bandit's voice sounded right next to your bed.

"No!" You three yell, but groan out when Bandit's whole weight plops down on top of you guys. Only Bluey and Bingo were able to wiggle out from under him. They tackle him and try to tickle him off you. So much for not being dog-piled.

"Mum's making breakfast. Best get down there before I eat it all." Bandit rolled to the side to sit and chuckled as the girls made a run for it. "They're always up before our alarm. Crazy children." He smiled softly at you. "Will you be alright, Mate?"

You nod and chuckle. "For the most part. Yeah." You look at the backpack that Bandit had let you keep for school. It wasn't that bad of a bag.

"First days are always tough, but you've gotta be tougher. I know YOU are, by a long shot. Remember, we're also just a phone call away too." He side-hugs you. "You'll be alright."

"I know."

"Good. Now let's get down to brekkie before your sisters eat it all."

Both of you make eye contact, then quickly rush to the stairs while trying to stop each other from going in front. "I told you, I'm not going easy on ya." "Same here." "Give up already!" "Not until you give up first!" "Then I'll just block the doorway."

Bandit holds onto the frames of the kitchen entranceway and smirks. "Ha! Can't get into the kitchen now, can you?"

You back up and go to charge into him, but he swiftly grabs your hand and twirls you back toward the couch. "Gah! Smooth." You roll your eyes playfully.

"Why thank you, but you're still not getting in the kitchen."

Chilli is standing behind him and silently tells you to tickle his sides. Bandit looks back at her, but she just walks away to continue making three lunch boxes. "Hold up. What did you tell them? Chilli!" He looks at you and laughs nervously when you grin mischievously. "What did she tell you?"

You raise your hands to wiggle your fingers.

"Mum showed them that they can be a tickle-crab." Bluey said.

"Dad's really ticklish." Bingo giggles.

"I am not!" Bandit pouts but takes off to the outside patio. "Though I'm not staying around for you to find out."

You shrug and take a seat next to Bingo. "I don't really have anything to bring for your show and tell, Bluey. But you can take a few of my favorite pins and buttons with you." You tell her while pouring yourself a bowl of cereal.

"Okay. I can't wait to show everyone." Bluey began to ask you a few questions while you answered them. Some were silly, others were starting to get oddly funny. If you were a dinosaur, what would you be? Or, "If cheese comes from cows, does that mean they jump over the moon to grab cheese and deliver it to the grocery store?"

You almost spit out your juice after taking a sip and laughing.

Chilli is laughing as well and hands you a paper towel. "Alright, kids. It's time to get ready. I'll clean up."

The two adult heelers watch you guys run upstairs before cleaning up the breakfast mess and wait for the three of you to come back down. "Do you think it's still a bit early for them to go to school? Would another week be better for them?" Chilli asked when a bad feeling nudged her head.

"I'm sure they'll be alright. They know we're a phone call away." Bandit gave his wife a small smooch. "They're as tough as we are."

Bluey walks in with her backpack and your favorite beanie that you clipped the pins on. It sat on her head and she twirls around. "What do you guys think? (Y/n) said I can wear their beanie so I can carry their buttons."

"You look very cool, DUDE." Bandit approved.

Bingo comes in next and she's sitting on your shoulders. "I will get to wear it tomorrow." She was clearly excited about it and played with your ears. "One ear up. One ear down. Both ears up."

You make her giggle when you make your ears flick away from her hands.

"Lunchbox's ready. Bluey." Chilli gives her a green lunchbox, which she puts in her bag. "Bingo." She placed Bingo's blue one on the counter as you sat Bingo on the stool. "(Y/n)."

A black metal lunchbox is held out to you and there's a few stickers from the 80's placed randomly on the box. "Sorry, we didn't know what color to get you, so we just decided you could use Bandit's old lunchbox for now." Chilli apologized.

Bingo and Bluey had already run out to the car with their dad as you take the box and stare at it, before looking inside.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know what to make for your lunch. I hope it's good enough." Chilli was slightly distressed at what you would say.

You notice this and put the lunch in your bag. "It's more than enough....Thank you." You hug her and smile shyly before running out to the car.

This gesture caused Chilli's heart to fill with joy. "Aw."

>*LATER•AT•HOSPITAL*<
>*•*<

A click of a pen, snapped you out of your daze.

"Wake up, Mate." The doctor joked lightly. "You've got all your tests and x-rays done. Nothing too serious, though I suggest you get lots of rest and don't overexert yourself for a few days. Your mum will be back in a moment."

"Beans."

The doctor raised a brow, "What was that?"

"Mrs. Beans. Because her name is Chilli....Chilli Beans." You chuckle to yourself.

"Yes. Her name is Chilli." The doctor chuckled and wrote down on the clipboard. Your behavior drastically changed from when you first came in and the nurses had a hard time getting you to cooperate when leaving Chilli's side.

You didn't bother listening to the doctor or Mrs. Heeler as they talked once she came back. Something about check ups and getting updated vaccines done. Although, the whole time you were actually upset about something. Chilli could see it while you two waited for Trixie to take you guys home.

"Something bothering you, Sweetie?" Chilli gently brushes her hand over your head as you stare out the window of the hospital's pickup area.

A mouse with a piece of cheese runs by the hospital doors and a cat is chasing it while they run out of view.

You lay your head on her lap to get comfortable and glance at her sadly, "I didn't get to eat the lunch you made for me....I was actually looking forward to having it today."

Chilli hummed with amusement, "Is that all that's bothering you?" She grew worried when you began to tear up. "Oh, Honey, it's okay."

"No, it's not. You made it so perfectly and it was so special to me and-...and..." You hiccuped. "It just went to waste."

"(Y/n), there are things we can't always control. It didn't go to waste because I have a feeling a certain 'Old Man' got into it." Chilli rolled her eyes and smiled when you chuckled at Bandit's new nickname. "Besides, I can make it extra special again when you go back to school. Actually, Bandit and I will always make it special for you." She wipes your tears.

"Promise?"

"I promise."

A black vehicle pulled up to the entrance and Chilli softly nudged you. "Our ride is here. Let's go home to Bluey and Bingo. I'm sure they're letting out all their energy with the Old Man."

"Hopefully not too much. His back was hurting from the other day." You mumbled and hardly noticed the bluish white heeler who waved to you guys.

"Thank you, Trixie." Chilli helped you buckle in the back seat again.

"It's no trouble, Chilli. I'm pretty sure Bandit has his hands full with the girls." Trixie looks back at you, but you hardly keep your eyes open. "I hope to get to meet them better at the Barbie this weekend."

"Yeah, I hope so. Maybe it was a bit too early to send them to school."

"They'll be fine. First day isn't always perfect." Trixie reassures the red heeler.

>*•*<

Bluey was glad the game they played took her mind off the distressed feeling from earlier. Not getting to see you when she got picked up from school was disappointing, but it turned to worry when she didn't see you at home either. Bingo asked where you were, but their Dad said you'll be back soon because you were with Mum.

"Dad! Will (Y/n) be coming home soon? Can you call Mum?" She fidgets with the small red block in her hand.

Bandit smiled warmly and checked his phone. "Your Aunt Trixie picked them up awhile ago, so they should be back soon, Kiddo." He was worried as well and tried to play a game with the girls. "Just remember, not to be too loud when they come home."

Bingo tilts her head, "Why?"

"Well.....(Y/n) got hit in the head by a ball, really hard. Maybe you girls can take care of them when they get back. Nurse Bingo and Doctor Bluey." Bandit knelt down to his worried daughters. "That means no needles."

Bluey giggled softly and tossed the red block away. "Promise, but will (Y/n) be okay?"

"They're coming back home, so they will be, Kiddo. Let's head up to the kitchen and decide what we should have for dinner."

Bandit and the kids go up the stairs just as Trixie pulls up to the household. Chilli helps you out of the vehicle again, although with more difficulty, since you were half asleep. "We'll see you this weekend, Trix."

"Silly, Rabbit. Trix are for kids." You point at Trixie and stumble away toward the front door, until you stare at the steps. You shouldn't have, but you lift a foot to take a step. "Wah!!"

"Gottacha!" Chilli rushed over once Trixie pointed out your intense stare at the steps and caught you. "Can't stand still for at least a minute?" She chuckled and opened the front door. "Be prepared for—"

"Are you guys back?!! Ow! Bluey!" Bandit shouted from the kitchen.

Bingo shushed him and Bluey crossed her arms after jabbing his arm, "Telemacus, keep your voice down. We have other patients within the household who don't like loud noises."

Bandit smiled sheepishly, "Oh, yeah. Sorry, Doctor Bluey. But did you have to poke that hard?" He rubbed his arm. That girl can really jab.

"Yes. For the concern of other patients." She and Bingo notice you and Chilli in the doorway of the kitchen. Their tails wag with happiness and they immediately hug you.

You kneel down to give them both a bigger and better hug. "I missed you guys."

They didn't say anything, but they did hug tighter before they pulled away with wagging tails. "We missed you too, (Y/n). BUT!" Bluey announced a bit loudly then smiled sheepishly. "Sorry." She clears her throat, "Just to be sure you're positively okay. Me and Nurse Bingo will be taking care of you tonight."

"Cool. You're the most trustworthy dog I will trust to be my doctor." You pat the top of her head and you do the same thing to Bingo. "And also the very best nurse."

They seemed so proud and gently led you toward the stairs. "That's right and we will happily help you to your room, while dinner is being made." Apparently, you missed the whole hospital play date which Bingo and Bluey talked and laughed about. Something about a cat chasing a mouse into Bandit's/Telemacus' belly.

Slowly, you began to doze off while trying to remember what the real doctor and Chilli were discussing.

Bluey immediately noticed your discomfort after turning away from Bingo, who was making up stories for each button on your beanie. "(Y/n). Are you okay?"

You nod and grimace as a headache comes on.

"Are you really, really sure?" Bingo stopped now to ask.

The light wasn't doing much help again and you rubbed your face with your hands.

"Just making sure, but are you—"

"NO, Bluey. I am not okay. Quit asking." Your heart sank when the room had gotten extremely quiet when Bluey and Bingo snuck off the bed. The headache most definitely did not help much with your mood. You hoped Bluey and Bingo will be okay until you can apologize.

Why did today turn out so bad?
