Chapter 16

The day moved slowly, the dreary midday sun shining vaguely through the clouds. Lemon continued to show me the different areas of the Peace Clan and its members. There was the scouts, who's jobs were to circle the Wall and look out for anything suspicious. They were Dandelion, Honey and the lead scout Pineapple, who I had met yesterday.
Lemon introduced me the the patrollers, Fire, Flaxen and their lead, Sun. Their jobs were to patroll the entire territory and its surroundings. Then there was the Hunters, Canary, Mustard, Butter, Lemon and their lead, Yellow.
Lemon explained to me that there was a Medicine cat, but she lived further out in the territory. "But surely you can take me there?" I asked hopefully. "No, I cannot. I've already had to deal with you the whole morning, I'm not looking forward to travelling another long distance with you." Lemon said, looking frustrated.

"But come on! Mistress GoldenLotus told you to show me around!" I said, also getting frustrated. "Yeah so what, I showed you around." he replied, with a roll of his eyes. "Come on, you don't want me telling her you didn't fulfil your job do you?" I asked, teasingly. Lemon's eyes narrowed as he seemed to consider the consequences, but just then Medallion appeared beside us. "Hey guys, what're yous up to?" she asked noisily and I smirked at Lemon, opening my mouth to tell Medallion of Lemon's failure to carry out his duty, but Lemon quickly but casually spoke before I could, "I was just showing this freaky fluff ball where our Medicine cat lives." I continued to smirk as Lemon frowned at me in annoyance. I felt quite satisfied to finally put him in his place.

"Well, if this isn't the most tense tour I've ever seen." Medallion said a little awkwardly. "Maybe I could do the honours of being your guide BlueWhiskers?" she asked and I quickly opened my mouth to agree, but once again Lemon cut me off. "Excuse me? And just leave me here to cop it from the Mistress, I don't think so." he huffed, quickly in front of us and leading the way to the Medicine cats den. Exchanging a glance and a shrug, me and Medallion ran after him.

Me, my sweet cousin Medallion and that snappy side chat Lemon, made our way through the territory. As we walked the grass got taller and taller, and the trees became more. To my right I noticed lines of stones in the ground, the grass patchy and under grown in that area, even some areas the soil was still visible. "What is that?" I asked, looking towards this sight. Medallion and Lemon who had been chatting about something, turned their heads to look where I was looking, not stopping their steady walk.
"That's The Peace Clans graveyard." Lemon stated, his voice low and grim, while Medallion looked ahead silently. They gave me the impression that they were both experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one buried in that very graveyard, as if just seeing or thinking about the place brought back bad memories that had been trying to forget. I nodded and said no more, although my curiosity continued. I was aware that The Black Ghost had grieved this Clan in the recent past, so I didn't bother asking who they'd lost, or to what. What I was curious about however, was the large structure just behind the rows of graves. It resembled a borrow-like den, but instead of the roof of the den being mad of soil, and only being big enough for one cat to fit, this was much different. It was made of stone which had been covered in moss, the gaps between each stone being filled with the fluffy green material. The structure appeared to be able to fit at least ten cats if they were laying in rows.

Medallion must've noticed my gaze wandering, my head turning slightly to continue looking at it as we walked further ahead. "It's part of the graveyard." she said, making me turn my head away from this structure and to my cousin on my left. "We bury the past Masters and Mistress's in there. It's like a chamber, all of them are buried side by side down there." she said and I titled my head a little to the side. "Why?" I asked curiously and Medallion gave a small laugh before responding with a smile grin, although her tone remained sad, "heh, you really don't understand the concept of tradition do you?" she asked and I shrugged, "my bad, I've just never seen anything like it." I said, giving a little laugh in return.

Medallion smiled to that. "It's to honour, respect and protect their bodies and graves. They protected us when they lived, now it's our turn to protect them." I nodded. I was sure it was respectful even just the fact that this structure was built for them. "You see, they get ruined when the is strong rain, a stampede or other inconveniences to the graves. Whereas the Masters and Mistress's graves get extra respect, they are protected from the brunt of any inconvenience." Medallion said and I nodded acknowledgement. "That is a good idea." I stated, then hesitated before asking, "is your dads grave down there?". Medallion too hesitated before responding in a small voice, "yeah".

Lemon cleared his throat suddenly, "well before yous make the mood anymore dreery..." he let the sentence drag as we both looked to see our destination in front of us. A borrow-like den, sat bellow a shedding tree, red, orange, yellow and brown leaves all sprinkled over the den roof, which was already covered in a layer of fresh green grass. It sat beside a small pond which now had Autumn leaves, frogs and ducks resting in its coolness.
There was a small stream of water that just reached my ankles, separating us from the den. As we padded through the water for a metre or two, I spotted a she-cat appearing at the entrance of her den.
