Did you miss me, Ava, I'm yours

"Kailua, you need to push harder, this baby isn't gonna come with that tiny amount of pressure." The two moon cycles Kailua had left vanished in a single moment. Now, she lay on a blanket in a healer's hut clutching Tsireya and Ao'nung's hands as she tried to give birth to her baby. Ronal was at the business end with another healer, whom Kailua hadn't seen before. Her brother at her side looked awkward as she lay on the bed, her legs bent upwards and tied up with fabric, her privates lewdly exposed. "Ok, and breathe." Kailua slumped back on the bed with a loud groan, pain radiating in her loins and up into her back. "If you don't wanna... don't wanna be here, then you... You don't have to," Kailua whispered to her elder brother. Ao'nung looked hesitant. "Nung?" Kailua asked. "I hate seeing you in pain, Lua." Kailua smiled at her brother. "There's only one way this baby is coming out, Nungie. And I'll be ok. If you want to leave, you can. I know y-you don't like blood," Ao'nung winced, "If you're sure?" Kailua nodded and felt the warmth of her brother's soft hand disappear. He left, glancing back once more.

Letting out a loud groan of pain as she pushed, Kailua felt something shift. "Ok, I can see the head. Two, maybe three more pushes Kailua, and you'll be a mother... you ready?" The healer spoke, already positioned. Kailua, too tired to speak, nodded.

The women who can have more than one baby are insane. Mentally ill or broken. How you can bear this pain thrice over...?!

Stopping very briefly to take a breather, Kailua tipped her head up to the hut roof, where a small hole gave way to the sky. Blink once and no one was there. Blink twice and she was gazing into the eyes of the amber eyes that belonged to, "Lo'ak?" Kailua asked. "Kailua, if there is anything you feel like you owe anybody then this is it. Push harder!" Maybe it was her pain-addled mind conjuring up random stuff, but Kailua listened. Gritting her teeth and holding her legs back, Kailua pushed. She pushed harder than she ever had before. Her long groan trailed into a scream as the pain became unbearable.

Suddenly, it stopped.
The pain left her body in a single swooping feeling.
Kailua let her head fall back as she panted, exhaustion seeping into her bones.

Then,
Suddenly,
There it was.
The tell-tale sign of a baby.
Her baby.

She gasped out, crying in relief. "Well done Kailua! A healthy daughter!" The healer proclaimed. Kailua raised her head with a grin. She held her arms out, "Gimmie," She whispered, grabbing out to her daughter. The healer shook her head. "She must be cleansed first. And you, my dear, must deliver her placenta," She quickly glanced around. "Nung!" She yelled. Ao'nung was by her side in an instant. "Go with her," She said. "Watch my daughter,"

He ran off quickly after the healer, leaving Kailua and Tsireya in the company of their mom. Ronal rubbed her ankle. "I am sorry he missed the birth, my love, but you did so well," She smiled. "I'm so proud of you,"

Yes. Lo'ak and the Sully family had been called back to the forest a few days ago under an emergency about Mo'at. A messenger was sent out to them in the late hours of last night, but it would take at least another three hours for them to arrive back, if, the messenger got to them before sunrise.

Kailua glanced back to the skylight with a soft sigh, wincing when it caught in her throat. She pressed a hand to her stomach. "Mama, it hurts," She said. Ronal frowned a little. "Yes. It will be the placenta,"

She sighed. "You can have a few moments to catch your breath. Wait for your body to begin the removal by itself,"

The wait wasn't very long at all. Before Mama had even cleaned her hands, the agonising cramps were back, worse than before. Ronal hushed her as she looked. "Ok, Kailua, I need you to stop pushing," Kailua cried softly. "Why? Is something wrong?" Tsireya rubbed her shoulder. "No, no..." Kailua panted, trying to recover from her recent contraction. "What then?" She asked.

"It would appear that you had another hiding,"

Kailua sniffed. "What?" She shut her eyes, repressing the urge to push. "You have another baby to deliver,"

Kailua's eyes widened. "No. No, I-I can't have twins! I didn't sign up for twins!" She dropped onto the pillow, fisting her eyes. "I'm too tired, I can't do it," She cried. Mama made a sympathetic sound. "I'm sorry, yawne, but you need to deliver this one. It looks like they're feet first, so you'll need to push even harder,"

Kailua sobbed. "I don't wanna do this anymore mama, please," She cried. "Oh, yawne, I know. But you don't have a choice, you've gotta get the baby out," Tsireya, being awesome, pushed some hair out of Kailua's face. "Thirty seconds and then I need you to give me the biggest push you can," Kailua cried quietly. "I want Lo'ak," She sobbed. Tsireya mewled in her throat. "Sister, he's in the forest," She said. Kailua sniffed. "I don't care, I want him," She cried.

"Are you ready?" Mama asked. Tsireya grabbed Kailua's shoulder. "Lua, you listen to me." Kailua shuddered. "He may not be here right now, but I am. And I need you to give it all you've got to get that baby out safely. Can you do that?"

Kailua looked up and nodded determinedly. "On three,"

A few hours later, Kailua dozed by her sleeping twins. She'd had girls, both of them. They were beautiful, in her eyes. Her eldest bore her skin and stripe colour, but Lo'ak's eye colour, stripe thickness and five-fingered hand. Her youngest daughter had Lo'ak's dark blue colour, with Kailua's stripe colour and thickness. She had one eye amber and one eye sky blue, along with five fingers again. She knew the clan would cause issues with them. Her daughters, currently named Metkayina and Omatikaya (because of their skin and patterns) were the first clan hybrids. Forest and Sea, Na'vi and Sky Person.

She refused to name the girls until Lo'ak came back... with a sigh, she shut her eyes for sleep. Whenever he returned.
