Prologue
Blue MagicPrologue
The woods were dark at night, that much was obvious. Nobody dared enter the trees after the moon rose above the trees. There was never a reason to venture outside of the village at night. The creatures in the woods were far too scary, and the comfort of their beds was enough to deter them. And it was illegal.
That was except for the guards.
The guards who wore black and red. They patrolled the woods at night to make sure these rules were followed and nobody dared disobey the curfew. All the villagers were aware that nothing good would come from breaking any of the council's rules.
The village of Crimcut got its name from the crimson-red leaves which grew all-year round. There weren't many inhabitants, there was enough resources for each resident to live a comfortable and content life. There were bakers, butchers, seamstresses, doctors, anything that anyone would ever want. Nobody had any need to leave the village, and that's how the council liked it.
The council was run by the five remaining elders. They were the descendents of the first travellers to discover the land. They were direct relatives to the ones who gave the village its name and its reputation for being the most undesirable place in the world to live.
The village had everything it needed for its residents, dead or alive.
It wasn't common knowledge that there actually were dead residents in the village. Two people out of fifty-or-so knew about the world of the undead which existed amongst them. There was the elder, who dealt primarily with magic and alchemy, and his daughter, who did the same. The Sallow family had kept the secret of the undead for centuries.
That was until an unexpected visitor knocked on their door in the middle of the night.
