She Wasn't A Child.
We were moving deeper and deeper into the caves, searching for humans. All of us were so caught up in the adventure, we hadn't even realized that...
The path was getting rough.
"Um, Undyne? Where are we?" I said, slowly coming to a stop.
"Well, obviously, we're-" she stopped.
She looked down at the ground, and her expression changed instantly.
"Oh no. Ohhh no! We need to be careful. The pathway up ahead is a little crumbly. One wrong move, and we could fall down!"
"Uh oh. Well, lead the way Undie!" Papy smiled.
"Undie? Um... Okie dokie."
She leapt out onto the uneven, rocky surface. She moved her foot to the right, and then the left, before she turned around, giving us a big smile, a reassuring nod, and two thumbs-up.
"The ground is pretty sturdy, we should be super duper!" she shouted, turning back to face forwards again.
Papyrus leapt out after Undyne first, then Sans leapt out, but my feet refused to move. I had a bad feeling, like there was a rock that was sitting in my stomach, and pulling at my lungs.
Sans turned back and gave me a confused look.
"Are ya coming? I'm not going any further without you." he said, sturnly.
He proved his point by placing both feet together and putting his hands in his jacket pockets. His look became even more puzzled when I still refused to move.
"Sans, I don't know about this. I can't move!" I shouted, fear in my voice.
"Sans? What's happening back there?" Pap called from ahead
"Don't worry, bro. I've got it covered."
Sans started walking back towards me, before stopping to put out his hand. My glance alternated between his hand and his face.
"Don't be scared. I'm right here for you." he grinned at me, reaching his hand out further.
I sighed, and hesitantly grabbed his fingers, and stepped beside him.
I felt a lot better, now that I had Sans by my side, but I certainly still felt uneasy.
We kept moving along, being sure to avoid cracks. We heard a weird rhyme recently-
"Don't step on the cracks,
Or you'll break your mother's back!"
And we certainly didn't wanna hurt any bones in Mom's body!
Papyrus had tripped and fallen a few times, which was pretty hilarious (but he didn't think so), and Undyne was getting way ahead of us.
"Sans? Do you think we should pick up the pace?" I asked, glancing over at him.
He shook his head.
"Nah, Dani. I'm not up for much more exercise. Swimming was enough, for today." he laughed.
Even though he sounded like he was joking, I'm pretty sure he was serious.
That's when I felt it.
It.
The most subtle of quakes.
No one else seemed to notice, but I felt the ground quiver, ever so slightly.
I stopped in my tracks, causing Sans to jerk back. My grip on his hand tightened, and my heart began to beat faster.
"Dani? Dani what's wrong?" he searched my face for answers.
My vocal chords were not able to cooperate. I had no desire to speak, as I knew my decision to walk on this ground was a complete mistake.
We were too far to go back, but too far to keep going.
"Dani?! Talk to me!"
I couldn't see Sansy anymore. I only saw the dreadful image of the ground giving way beneath us, and our helpless bodies plunging into darkness.
"Dani, please! You're scaring me!" Sans cried, desperately.
His frightened tone was enough to bring me back to reality, but...
Another rumble.
And this time, I know Sans felt it. His expression changed, and he understood what was troubling me.
"Verdana... You felt that, right?" he squeezed my hand tighter.
All I could do was nod.
"C'mon, Sis. I think we actually should pick up the pace. This doesn't seem good." He explained, hurriedly.
He pulled me along, practically dragging me, as we started a mad sprint towards Papyrus.
He obviously wasn't aware of the ground's movement, so I shouted at him.
"Papy, we have to hurry! The ground is shaking!" I said, my words echoing off the walls.
He turned back to look at us.
"The ground is what?! I couldn't hear you properly!" he shouted back.
"I said, that the ground is-"
My nightmare came true.
The rock crumbled underneath me, and my feet fell into the hole it created. My hand was ripped away from Sans, and I threw my arms about, trying to grab onto anything I could, but there was nothing. I was going to fall!
"Dani!" Sans shouted, reaching down for my arms.
Sans grabbed a hold of my wrists at the last second, and pulled with all his might.
"Verdi, hang on! Papyrus! Undyne! Help!" he called for them, as he tried to keep me from going under, "Please, hang on!"
Sansy's grip was slipping, but I heard the rapid footsteps of Papyrus and Undyne.
I could see their worried faces racing toward us. They were almost here!
I would get out of this. I would be fine. They all would save me!
Sans' grip was slipping at an alarming rate. Would they make it?!
Sans was terrified.
"Guys?! Please hurry! I can't pull her up on my own! She's starting to-"
I was hardly prepared for what was to come.
He lost hold of me.
