The Cards

Kid and Killer fit right in, knowing exactly what they were doing. Kid inserted himself into the group of worst generation bigwigs and their entourage. All eyes were on him as Killer swung you around. He leaned into the table, facing away from the crowd and letting you get a good view of them.

"Consider this your crash course on the worst generation." He smiled invitingly, unphased by the few sets of eyes that bore into his back.

"Okay." You glanced at the crowd and back at him. Most of them had gone back to eating, drinking, and partying. Kid was throwing back alcohol and busying himself with people watching, getting a feel for everyone while Killer filled you in on the details.

"We'll start to your left. The tall older guy, tan with the dark hair and beard. That's Urouge. He's called the mad monk."

Urouge wasn't looking in your direction so you chanced watching him for a moment. He had a permanent grin plastered across his face but he was intimidating. You thought Kid and half his crew was big, Urouge towered over everyone else in the gathering and was a wall of sheer muscle.

"The redhead by him is X Drake. He used to be part of the police but apparently decided he liked the life of crime better."

Drake was watching the room like a hawk. He seemed like he didn't even know how to smile, lips turned down into a deep set frown. His piercing blue eyes occasionally flitted over to you and Killer but the second you met his gaze, he turned his head and blushed. A modest gang leader. Cute.

"Then we've got Jewelry Bonney, the glutton."

She would have been a pretty woman, hell, she was. But her manners were far from attractive. The pink haired girl was shoving food down her throat faster than you used to buck Kid off of you when he yanked at feathers.

"She's charming." You said, wrinkling your nose up in disgust.

"Oh, very." Killer smirked as he watched you watch the people. "Next to her should be Capone Bege."

"The guy who looks like he walked straight out of The Godfather?"

"Yeah."

"I think he couldn't tolerate Bonney, he's inching closer to that Drake guy." You giggled as you watched him, puffing angrily at the cigar between his lips and glaring at Bonney. You weren't the only one that didn't like her table manners.

"Alright. Scratchmen Apoo should have been near him. The lanky guy with the long braid."

You spotted him pretty quickly. "He gives me the creeps."

"He gives everyone the creeps, stick around me and he won't bother you any."

"Who's the guy with the goatee and big ass sword?"

"Weird spotted hat?"

"Yeah."

"Law. The Surgeon of Death."

"Ohhhh mysterious."

Killers shoulders shook as he laughed. "Careful around him, Kid can't stand the guy."

"Okay." You giggled but it was cut short when you looked at a man with long blonde hair and stoic eyes. He was watching you, not even trying to hide it. You frowned, twisting your body around so he couldn't see your lips move as you spoke. "Who's the guy with the tarot cards?"

"Basil Hawkins."

"He's been staring at me."

"Us."

"No." You glanced at Hawkins again. He was still watching you. "Just me. He's making that Scratchmen guy seem normal."

Killer frowned, taking your hand in his to stop your shuffling around. You couldn't shake the feeling of his eyes on you and it made your skin crawl.

"Relax, he won't start anything, I promise."

"Okay." You nodded and looked past him to the last two important people in the group. "What's with the green haired guy and the boy with the strawhat?"

"Those are the last ones. Well," He paused. "There's one more to the group but he's not here tonight. But the green haired guy is Roronoa Zoro. The kid is his boss, Monkey D. Luffy."

They were into the food and drink about as much as Bonney was but Kid looked like he was getting ready to get into it with Luffy. He couldn't seem to stay out of trouble around others.

"So that's all of them. Anything else I need to know?"

"Yeah. Out of all of us, only Zoro and I don't have any devil fruit powers. Everyone else has something up their sleeve."

"That sounds kinda fun actually." You grinned. They'd all pose some sort of challenge then. You could go for that.

"Most of them won't get involved in any of the 'games' going on tonight. They'll prefer to sit back and watch. Kid and I will be doing the same but you'll still need to get involved in at least one big event tonight."

"What're our options?"

"That's were it gets fun." Killer pulled you closer and brushed his lips to yours.

The public show of affection had you blushing and your heart feeling ready to beat right out of your chest.

"You're eye catching." He whispered. "Some of the other guests are getting their hopes up."

Now that he mentioned it, you could feel it, hungry stares from every direction. Some were getting hopeful that you were free. You smiled up at Killer, rubbing your front against his. It was bold for you but it'd send a clear message.

"What're the 'games' for the evening?" You reworded the question to get his attention back to the matter at hand.

"No one knows yet." He licked his lips and tilted his head slightly. "We've got an hour before they start announcing them. We'll go to anything that catches your interest."

"Why don't we work on keeping Kid in line until then?" You ran your lips along his jaw and felt him shudder slightly.

His skin smelled of aftershave with a heady mix of his cologne and as much as you were discovering how fun it was to tease him like this, you were right. Kid needed someone to keep him from getting thrown out soon. He and Luffy looked just about ready to duke it out and you weren't in the mood to let them. You didn't spend well over two hours making yourself look pretty for him to ruin his own plan.

"Lead the way." It came out breathy. "It's your night whether everyone else knows it or not."

You giggled as you pulled away, throwing a bit of swing to your hips as you strutted over to the group. Killer stayed close behind but the worst generation watched you when you walked up to Kid, tapping him on the shoulder. You don't know what exactly was in the air tonight, but it was making you feel brave, almost shameless, and it felt damn good.

"Are you going to introduce me to your friends, Captain?" You purred.

His original snarl was replaced with a sly smile. He liked the little title you added and boy it showed.

"Captain." He chuckled. "Yeah, we've got time to waste."

You stopped paying attention to him right as he started. Listening to him rattle on about the people you'd just learned about wasn't what you really wanted but it got him to behave himself. Killer slipped an arm around your waist and held you close while Kid talked. You kept up a charming personality as you were introduced to those who cared as the newest addition to Kid's gang. He left out the part about you being the dragon, they'd figure that out soon enough.

The entire time you could still feel Hawkins watching you carefully, like he was sizing you up. When you got tired of listening to Kid and prickling sensation between your shoulders from being stared down for so long, you slipped a hand over Killers and pulled him along with you to the source of your annoyance.

"Can I help you?" You asked Hawkins. The question was innocent enough but there was an edge to your voice.

"Maybe you can." He fiddled with his cards, flipping them over to reveal their faces on the table. "I've read you multiple times and keep getting the same results."

You'd never done a reading before. It did have you curious. "And?"

He pointed to a card depicting a woman draped in white cloth. "The High Priestess reversed, a secret soon to be revealed." His hand slid to another with a lion on it, it's fangs sinking into the throat of a knight. "Strength. The sign of a great feat." Then to one with a man sitting on a throne. There was a crown on his head and a dragon wrapped around him, flames puffing out it's slightly open mouth. Fitting. "And the Emperor, the card of power, possibly accompanied by dire consequences."

You let it sink in for a second. They were scary accurate. The secret was without a doubt your devil fruit. The 'strength' had to involve the games for the evening. It was nice knowing for sure you'd do something of note for the night. But the last one you didn't understand. You already had power, secret power, but power nonetheless. As for consequences....all you could think of was the law catching on to you.

"How far out are your predictions good for?"

Hawkins cocked his head to the side. He reminded you of a big cat, curiously watching it's prey. Something graceful, maybe a leopard or a tiger. "Good for? Until they are proven true of course."

Right. Silly of you not to come to the same conclusion.

"What if you're wrong about something?"

"I'm 90% positive in these predictions. They've failed to be altered the entire time you've been here."

That made sense with the first two.

You pointed to another one of the cards, the one with a man and a woman. Their arms were intertwined, each holding a cup. "What about this one?"

"Two of cups. It represents a bond with someone involving great pleasure. Usually a friend, partner, or perhaps a lover."

You blushed, feeling Killer's fingers tap along your side. He'd been so quiet you'd almost forgotten he was there.

"Lover." He said. He and Hawkins were eyeing each other.

It felt like you were caught between to guys trying to prove who was more macho. That was almost laughable. Killer was a man's man, all muscle and dominance. Hawkins was almost effeminate. He was slim, lanky. His straight, long hair looked like it belonged on some busty woman. His voice was smooth, lacking the depth Killer's had. The only saving grace he had was his tattooed and slightly heavy brows. If they were any more delicate, you would have had a harder time telling he was male from far away.

"Thanks for the reading." You said, pressing a hand to Killer's chest. He didn't budge. You'd have had better luck taking down a brick wall with your bare fists. If you could go dragon you'd pick him up like a misbehaving puppy and drag his macho ass somewhere else.

Hawkins slowly averted his gaze back to you. "I look forward to seeing what you have in store for everyone this evening..."

"Blue."

"Blue." He repeated, looking you up and down. "How fitting."

You managed to coax Killer away and back into the thick of the crowd.

"You said yourself he wouldn't do anything." You pat his arm. The suit jacket did nothing to hide his thick muscles. "We don't need you starting fights too."

"He was pushing it."

"He was just reading the cards."

Killer shook his head. "The way he talked about the last one, I think he was hoping to fill the position."

You twisted around in his grasp to face him, placing a hand on your hip. "Do you really think I'd go for it even if he offered? Even after all you went through for me?"

His eyes widened and he quickly smiled. "No. You'd be too much for him to handle anyway. I think you'd crispy critter him before he'd get the chance to suggest bedding you."

"I don't know if I'd go that far." You laughed. "Even for him."

"I wouldn't complain if you did."

"Killer," You smiled and lightly pushed his chest. "I never pegged you for the jealous type."

"Never thought I was."

You were getting ready to tease him about it, but paused when the lights in the room dimmed. You could still see everything just fine at least. The dull roar of the many guests quieted down to low murmurs as they looked around.

"Now the real party begins." Killer turned you to face a huge screen that was lowered from the ceiling, his mouth brushing against your ear. "These gatherings aren't meant for everyone to get cozy with each other. They're for showing off power, seeing where everyone ranks in the grand scheme of things."

The screen lit up, filled with a list of sorts. It was all the names of events with when and where they'd take place. You scanned the list quickly, taking note of what caught your eye.

Kid appeared beside you and placed a heavy hand on your shoulder, he was grinning ear to ear and positively brimming with excitement. You could see why. There were a few different small things you wanted to try out, some that would be going continuously throughout the night as opposed to at a set time. But there was one in particular you knew you had to do before the end of the night.

"What's the plan Blue?" Kid asked.

You smiled. "Keep them guessing until midnight."

What little light there was in the room reflected off of his amber eyes, making them look alive with fire. "Then leave them in awe."

The last game of the evening would take place at midnight. It looked to be the biggest one and based on just what it was called, it'd fit your skill set quite well. Everyone who really cared about the power balance would be there to see it.

A simple maze run.

Of course that wouldn't be the case. It wouldn't really be all that simple. You expected traps and obstacles galore not to mention other contenders. But it wouldn't be fun without all that.

"Don't be catching everything on fire." Killer tapped your nose when he saw the event.

"I'd never."

"Sure you wouldn't." His voice was laced with amusement. "I just wish they had some high flying thing going on instead."

"That'd be a little too easy, don't you think?"

Killer looked out into the crowd, taking in the delighted faces of the city's underground. "Right, too easy. We can't have that."

"This is going to be good." Kid rumbled. "Let's get started!"
