Blue

(A/n)
Hope you guys all like the dragon form! I'm a sucker for feathered dragons so that's what I had the urge to design of course.

It started out as a joke but eventually people were calling you by it all the time.

Blue.

It was to the point that when you introduced yourself to others, it was the name you offered up instead of your real one.

You earned it after eating a devil fruit a bit over a year ago. You had no idea what kind of ability you'd get from it at the time, but you were willing to take the gamble. It ended up being a rare one, a mythical zoan fruit that gave you the ability to take on the form of a large, feathered dragon. Though large may not be the best descriptor for it.

When you were in your full beast form, you were bigger than the average person, standing at about 4 meters tall at the shoulder. It was definitely an imposing sight, but you were a little bummed out when you realized that was as big as you got. But what you lacked in size, you made up for in speed and strength.

But the strangest thing that changed for you after eating the fruit wasn't your ability to change into a storybook creature, it was what it did to you in your human form. You'd never heard of zoan fruits causing permanent changes before, but that's exactly what it did to you.

Before you ate the fruit, both your eyes were (e/c). Even directly afterwards they stayed the same. But you went to bed and woke up the next morning with your right one having changed to a brilliant shade of blue*. It was the same shade as the sea, like a reminder that you'd never be able to touch the water again without risking your life.

It didn't hurt or bother you any so you just shrugged it off and went on with your life, with the new nickname of course. Where you lived in the city, gangs and cutthroats were a regular occurrence so they made for great training while you got adjusted to using your new abilities. At first, you weren't sure you'd pack a punch. You lacked horns, sporting a crest of large feathers instead that puffed up to stand on end when you were alert or in a fight. Any other time, they laid flat against your head.

Your tail was huge, easily twice as long as your body. But it didn't have much in the way of anything particularly dangerous either. At its end was a fan of huge feathers, making it remind you more of a feather duster. At least you had talons and teeth. They were all you used during fights for the first few months.

Then you eventually learned you could breath fire. Real fire. That was definitely an exciting day for you. Something had you in a sour mood that day and when a group of gang members came to terrorize your part of town, flames bubbled up along with your anger and swallowed them whole. Of course the fire was blue, just like your eye.

After that, you slowly learned other ways to fight. Your large tail was actually extremely flexible, strong, and worked great as a whip. When you flew, the fan of feathers helped you change directions quickly and make small adjustments in the air. The crown of feathers on your head really had no purpose, but it looked cool. And to top it off, you were completely iridescent. In poor lighting, you looked white. But under the sun, you took on just about every color at once.

All in all, things weren't half bad. You had a nifty ability and could kick some serious ass. And you were finding new ways to control your dragon-like powers every day. Things couldn't have been better. And you were right about that in the worst kind of way.

In that span of a year, you'd taken to picking up odd jobs to take care of yourself. Many rode a fine line between being considered legal or not but they payed decent and in an area like this, bustling with crime, you slept just fine at night knowing what you did wasn't always morally good. Bills stayed paid and you always had something to eat, you couldn't complain about that.

But the issue was even though people didn't know you were the the local dragon bouncing around the city, word had still gotten around about your rough location. What started out as a great deal and setup, was beginning to backfire and you were just about at a point of needing to lie low to avoid dealing with thugs all the time.

They were beginning to get on your nerves. None of them seemed to know what you looked like in your human form, but it was still a hassle. Policemen openly searched for you in hopes of catching the person that was causing them constant problems without being affiliated with any one gang. Whereas the gangs themselves were either trying to recruit or get rid of you permanently. It turned out a lot of people thought you were quite the threat, and they didn't even know if they were looking for a man or a woman.

And while the tenacity some of them had was rather impressive, you were ready to be left alone. Work couldn't stop though. You made just enough for yourself to get by and couldn't afford to go quiet for who knew how long.

So here you were, on another job. It was simple this time, one you could do in a matter of minutes. Someone had found an item they wanted stolen from a particular antique shop. Work like this had become rather common for you. While the city always had quite a bit of crime, things had become petty at times.

There was a group called the worst generation, comprised of a few different people from different gangs. A lot of them had devil fruit powers like you but that wasn't what made them dangerous. They were all dead set on claiming the city as their own and refused to back down. It wouldn't have been so bad but the person who had control of the area before died in a huge fight between his group and the police force. It was eventually labeled as a war, it was too gruesome not to be. But with no one in control any longer, things had turned into a messy grab for power among the worst generation members with no definite winner yet.

And it was exactly what led to the increase of job requests like the one you had now. There was no real order. While things like this would have been worked out more amicably in the past, there was no one to ensure that was still the case now. You didn't mind. Work was work and this would have you set for the next week.

The biggest problem was the shop was across town from where the person requesting the stolen item wanted to meet up and they refused to see you at a closer location. You'd have to steal the item, transform, and fly away before anyone could connect your human form to your dragon one. You were sure the job would be easy, but there would be a lot of risk getting discovered involved with it.

But if you went in quietly and carefully, you could make it work. Maybe you wouldn't even need to transform for this at all. You'd like that.

So you walked down the dark alleys, avoiding the well lit streets as you made your way to the antique store. It was late at night and the only people out now were either up to no good like you, or completely oblivious to how dangerous it was to be out this time of night.

It smelled of fresh rain and the roads were slick. It was pouring all day and had settled down to a light drizzle when dark fell. Since you decided to walk, your clothes were damp and your hair clung to your face, the occasional droplet falling from loose strands.

It didn't bother you any. In fact, this was your kind of weather. Most people hated dreary days but you loved them. They were relaxing and nothing beat doing a job after the rain put you at ease.

Your goal quickly came into view and you smiled to yourself. You'd scouted the shop earlier and learned not only did it lack a security system of any kind, the back door had a very simple lock to it.

The door was located in a very narrow part of the alley. It was just wide enough to let the door swing open. You could see scrape marks on the building behind it from years of opening and closing. After jiggling the handle to make sure it was really locked, you focused on your hand.

It was possible to do partial transformations but it took some concentration to make it happen. After a few seconds of visualizing your nails turning into talons, they did just that. You held onto the thought long enough to use them as makeshift lockpicks and unlock the door. They turned back to normal right after you finished and you were able to walk in like you owned the place.

While you did scout around the location earlier that day, you didn't actually step into the building until now and you were beginning to regret it. The shop looked small from the outside. But inside, that didn't seem to be the case. It felt much bigger than it actually was and there was merchandise filling every possible nook and cranny.

You silently cursed yourself as you moved your messenger bag around to keep it close and began the search. You were supposed to be looking for a simple arm band. The guy who wanted it described it as having black straps and a couple glass pieces on it. It sounded unique enough that you couldn't miss it when you found it.

Places like this tended to be somewhat organized, keeping like items together. So you started with that in mind, looking for jewelry of any kind. You kept low to avoid being seen through the shop windows, doing a crouched walk through the place. It took a few minutes for you to come across something promising.

As you got closer to the middle of the store, you noticed a large glass display case. You raised yourself to peek in, seeing it full of old fashioned rings, necklaces, and earrings. You almost smiled when you noticed an arm band in it that was suspiciously close to the description of the one you needed.

"Bingo~" You whispered as you went around behind the case.

It was locked of course but if a simple lock couldn't stop you before, it sure as hell couldn't now. It took you under a minute to hear it click and for the glass panel to slide over for you to reach in. You gave it a quick glance, confident this was your mark, before wrapping it in a cloth and shoving it in your bag. It was time to go. If you could keep quiet like you had so far, you wouldn't even need to change into your dragon form to escape quickly.

But you never had the best of luck.

You were alerted that you weren't the only one in the store when something towards the back fell with a heavy thump. It made your heart stop. The worst part was it was still past that. Someone else was here and they were trying to be quiet like you. What were the chances that two people would rob the same place in the same night? This was definitely going to be a first for you.

*If you/inserted character already has blue eyes, assume the right eye changed a different shade.
