Chapter 28:

Tobias' Perspective

    I wake up in a hospital room, by myself. My thighs burn with pain. I am breathing by myself now.  I attempt to sit up, but my thighs ache with pain, and I yell out.

    The doctor walks in, and she closes the door softly. "How long have I been asleep?" I ask. "Only a day." she replies with a small laugh. Why is she laughing?

     "Where's my wife and daughter?" I say. Did Natalie ever wake up? I need to see her. "Your wife is in the waiting room, and your daughter left." she says. What?  "With who?" I say.

    "I don't know." she says. "Will you please bring my wife in?" I say. She nods and leaves. There are no more bandages on my chest. The room is silent, except for the heart monitor.

I pick at the cast with my finger nail, and stare at the wall. The door swings open, revealing Tris in a hospital gown. Her face is red, and her eyes are puffy from crying.

    "Tobias" she says, and runs over to me. I wrap my arms around her and she breathes into my shoulder. I smell her hair, and it smells like Natalie's hair. Lavender honey. I close my eyes, and tears fall from eyes, into her hair. "I love you." she says.

    "I love you too." I say. She sobs into my shoulder. "Where is she?" I say. She turns her head and whispers in my ear. "She left with Uri about half an hour ago." she says. She kisses my jawbone, and I stop crying. "Where?" I say. "The apartment." she mumbles into my neck.

    "Why?" I say. "To get clean clothes." she says. She places a kiss on my cheek and stares at me with those blue-gray eyes. I forget what I'm about to say to her, and press my lips to hers. I pull her closer to me, and she takes my face in her hands.

     "Well!" shouts Mariah. We stop, and Tris hops off of me. She eyes the both of us. "It's not like I haven't seen that before. I have parents too." she says and sits down next to me in a chair. She has a bag in her hands, and opens it revealing Dauntless cake.

    "Want some?" she says looking at me. I nod. She opens up the plastic case it was in and takes a fork from the bag. She takes a small piece from it on the fork. "Open up!" she says. I open my mouth, and she puts the fork in my mouth. I clamp down on the fork with my lips and chew.

I forgot what this tasted like. I swallow. "More?" she says. She already has another bite ready. I nod and she feeds it to me. Tris is snickering. I ignore her, and take six more bites. She puts it away, and smiles at me.

    "Mom baked it just for you." she says. I hear the door open, and Marlene walks in. "Yeah, I put extra chocolate in it." she says. I smile at her.

    Mariah has short brown hair, green eyes, and her skin is a warm brown color like Uri's. She looks a lot like Marlene, but you see Uriah in her too. Marlene comes over to me, and hugs me. I hug her tightly. She lets go and smiles.

    "Thank you for the cake, Marlene and thank you Mariah for feeding it to me." I say. Mariah and Tris laugh. "She did?" says Marlene. Tris, Mariah, and I all nod. She breaks out in laughter. "That was some awesome cake, Mar." I say. She smiles.

    "Thanks, I have plenty more at the bakery if you want some more." she says. I almost forgot about the bakery she owns. She'd sneak home made cookies to Natalie, Mariah, William, and Shane after they home schooled.

    "OH!" Marlene yells out. "I have some news, but I'd much rather announce it when Uri gets here." she says. I nod. Tris squeals. "Do you already know?" says Marlene. "Christina told me." says Tris. "Gosh, that blabbermouth. I may as well say it now." she says. Tris smiles.

    "Oh, wait let me get the others!" says Tris. She bolts for the door. Marlene leans in, and whispers in my ear. "Uri doesn't know yet." she says. She pulls away and smiles. What is she talking about? Tris comes back with Zeke, Shauna, Will, Christina, William, and Shane.

    They all come and hug me. I hug back. "We missed you!" "Ew, Zeke did you fart?" "OH! I smell it!" "I did NOT!" "I did it!" "EWWWW!!!!" I hear everybody say, but don't know who. I all of a sudden smell the fart. "Oh! Who did that!" I say pinching my nose. "I did!" Shane raises his hand. Everyone backs away. "Like father, like son." says Christina.

We all laugh except Zeke and Shane. "GUYS! I HAVE SOME NEWS!" shouts Marlene from the chair. Everybody turns to look at her. "OHMYGOSH! IS IT THE NEWS!" shouts Christina.

Marlene nods. I hear Tris and Christina squeal. "Okay, I'm pregnant!" shouts Marlene. I automatically look over at Mariah. Her mouth is dropped open, and she's making a noise. I hear all the women squeal, and the men shout in joy. They all wrap Marlene in a hug. Mariah just sits there. She stands up. "YES!!!!! I'M NOT GONNA BE AN ONLY CHILD ANYMORE! YEAH!" she shouts and jumps around. I wonder if Natalie likes being an only child......

Marlene runs over to me and hugs me, because she knows I can't get up. I whisper, "Congratulations" in her ear. She pulls away with a huge smile. Uri doesn't know yet. HA!  I hear the door open, hoping it's Natalie, but it's just the doctor.

    "Keep it down!" she yells. We all stop yelling. "When is Natalie gonna get here?" I say. "Is it a boy or a girl? Wait, wait don't tell me! I want it to be a surprise!" says Shauna.

    "Yeah, don't tell us!" says Christina. "Guys, do you know when Natalie's gonna get here?" I repeat. "I can't wait to see Uri's face when you tell him!" says Will. "Yeah, his jaw is gonna drop to the floor! Then he'll be all like, 'When did I get you..." I interrupt Zeke.

    "WHEN IS NATALIE GONNA GET HERE!" I yell. Tris looks over at me. "WE DON'T KNOW!!!!" she shouts. I'm excited for Marlene, but I really want to see her. I'd be yapping along with them if I wasn't in casts, and if Natalie was here.

We were told we can't yell, but we're all Dauntless, what do they expect? "Okay!" I say back. I want to get out of this bed, and find Natalie. I want her to walk in through that door, and hug the heck out of me. I want to smell the Lavender honey scent of her hair when she hugs me.

    "Hey man, did your balls get burned off too?" says Zeke as he walks over to me. I manage a chuckle. "No, and nice to see you too." I say. He laughs, and hugs me.

I slap his back and he lets go. "Missed you." he says. "Missed you too, buddy." I say. He walks back over to Shauna, and swings his arm across her shoulders. I look around at these people that have become my family over the years. I would never trade these people for anything.

I love them all. Tris is talking to Christina, Marlene is jumping around with Mariah, Zeke and Shauna are now swallowing each other. I ignore the smacking. The only thing missing is Uri and Natalie. I can't wait to get some different clothes on. This dress is all up in my butt. Why do they give guys dresses here?

    "Natalie!" screams Tris. I look up and see her in the door way. She is smiling and looking at everybody but me. She has a black leather bag hung on her shoulder. She pushes through the sea of people, and makes her way to me. She smiles at me. I smile back, and reach my arm out for her.

She hugs me around the chest, and I smell her hair. "I love you so much." she says. "I love you too." I say. She lets go and turns around. "I heard you have news!" she says walking over to Marlene.

She left the black leather bag on the bedside, and I grab it. I go through it, and see Tris' bra. I snicker. I pull out my pair of jeans, a black t shirt, socks, boxers, and deodorant. I put the bag down, and stuff the clothes underneath my pillow. Marlene stands on the chair.

    "Uriah, Natalie I have some amazing news." she says. We are all looking at her. "I'm pregnant!" she shouts. Everybody squeals and cheers. Natalie hugs her, and Uriah stands there, his mouth wide open. "Aren't you happy?!" says Marlene. He nods. "I'm stunned." he says.

She hugs him. He stiffens. She pulls away. "Your'e gonna have a second child. Aren't you happy?" she says. "Yes! I'm amazed! I'm so excited!!!" he shouts. He pulls her into a kiss, and everybody turns away. Natalie walks back over to me, and she looks concerned.

    "Dad, I have something to tell you. Actually, I have something to tell you all." she says, and stands up on a chair. "I have something to tell you guys, too." she says.
