a skeptical attitude; doubt as to the truth of something.

"I've got to say... I'm pretty, ah, surprised," nodded Dipper, taking a once over. Eyes flitting to one side of the room, he crossed his arms. Candy giggled from behind, and from that tone, Dipper could tell she had been staring at him. Again.

        It was tiring, honestly.

"And she did this by herself?" asked Dipper, trying to keep his tone from sounding impressed.

"The plan, the set up, all of the ideas were hers, we just simply helped," nodded Phil, eyes on fire as he looked at Candy. Perhaps Phil hated her, or was immensely infatuated. Dipper couldn't tell with Phil, the boy with a piercing on his eyebrow.

"I've got some stuff to handle with Phil, so Candy, why don't you start acting responsible and attending at least some of the meetings the S.C. does? I mean, they're once a day, Jesus, Candy."

Candy rolled her eyes but trudged away, red lips pouting. Phil walked closer to Dipper, and took out his phone. Probably to text Greg.

"So, the dorms, from what Greg and I searched through, nobody had it," said Phil in a low voice, eyes still on his phone. Dipper furrowed his brows, confused, to say the least.

"Was it just the boys dorm?"

"Uh, yeah dude, going to the girls dorm? Yeah, I think the fuck not," scoffed Phil, eyes like a predator as he glanced up to Dipper, who had an amused look on his face. Phil's eyes softened, he knew Dipper was a stressed boy with too many problems on his plate.

"It is messed up, but.... It must be done. Maybe we could ask Mabel to?" wondered Dipper. "Yeah, I'll ask her."

"So, when are you going to tell us anything about these books?" pressed Phil, putting his phone away and intensely looking at Dipper, who looked calm and collected.

"Once we get it, I think you'll understand."

"Alright, man," nodded Phil, but still, he was UNSATISFIED by that answer, so he turned to leave. Dipper immediately felt bad, but kept his mouth shut. He knew he would have to tell them that the Journals were the key to everything, but to tell them was to give the knife to the Cipher Brothers personally.

A tap on his shoulder made him turn immediately and fall into a defensive stance.

"Chill," laughed Acid. Dipper relaxed, it was just Acid and not a familiar blonde haired boy.

"What're you here for?" asked Dipper, his thoughts still a burning forest.

"I was thinking... we could go - " started Acid, looking hopeful.

"No. We're not going again," said Dipper in a final tone, eyes narrowing at Acid.

"Fine, okay, what about the Forest? It's been a while since we've went. It could be like, your, uh, vacation for a couple of hours? You could get Phil and Greg too?"

"That actually might be a good idea, Chiu," nodded Dipper.

✦✧✦

"So, you called Greg, me and Chiu for the sole reason of finding midgets?"

"That's a crude way to put it, Phillip," snorted Acid, stretching his arms as the four boys walking deeper into the woods.

"Shut the hell up, Astrid," snapped Phil. Dipper wondered what had gotten under Phil's skin within minutes to make the boy so uptight. Acid grumbled, obviously pissed that Phil used his entire name. Letting their bickering go unnoticed, Dipper checked his watch.

         6:04 PM.

"So, Dipper, instead of evading our questions like you usually do, I believe we've got some trust, right?" pressed Greg. His bright eyes made it impossible not to answer him.

"You've heard of gnomes, right?" asked Dipper in a low voice, when he turned around, intensely looking at Greg. This was not the time to be messing around. Greg immediately flushed red and stood up straighter.

"Yeah, like the garden gnomes, right?"

"Well, these aren't exactly garden gnomes. They're quite, ah, different. Been described as the little men of the Gravity Falls forest. You see the trees around us? They live up there."

         "And this helps us... how?"

"It means they have eyes everywhere. They may be stupid, but they know when to talk, at the right price," muttered Dipper, thoughts bubbling in his mind.

"That's freaking insa - " started Phil but was cut off as he fell to the ground, face first. Greg, Acid and Dipper turned around to see Phil, the muscled boy, having trouble to get up as a little short man about 3 feet on his back, holding him down.

"You never said they were alive!"

"Oh my bad, Greg, I should've mentioned that. Oh wait, I did when I said they bloody talk!"

"What the fuck?" Acid muttered in shock.

"Can you guys get this midget the hell off of me?" grunted Phil, squirming from the tight hold of the little man.

Dipper and Greg stepped forward but the gnome instantly looked up and grinned.

"Uh uh uh," he tutted in his raspy voice. "I'd think twice, buddy boy."

The little twerp flitted his eyes behind the group of boys. Dipper slowly turned around  and looked up to see dozens of bright eyes, in the trees, shining.

         "Well, we're in deep crap."
