*Day One*
***
I can't stop staring into those sky blue eyes. They shone, almost like tears lay in them.
Today, I remember staring at the girl, just as all my jock friends do. She didn't look back at us. She learned not to.
Even still, the gray features of her brought out the blue. She was irresistible. Noticeable. She could never hide from society. Never blend in.
As lunch ended, and we all had to return to class, I stood up. I hesitated. My friends called out to me. I held up a finger. I walked over to the girl. She saw me.
I saw disdain in her blue lights. Pain, fear. They broke through her like a hammer.
When she glanced up at me, she asked,"Are you going to hurt me?"
Very straightforward. I liked it. But no, I couldn't chat.
Instead, I replied with a measly,"I'm sorry."
I walked away, joining my friends' conversations. We waltzed to class like gangsters, then joined into the boring discussion of school...
I didn't look back.
