I just realized i missed the 1 year anniversary for this story

"Both teams are stacked with players invited to the Japan World Team, so we can expect one heck of a game. Three back-to-back classes in particular stand out as chock-full of big name players, from Kageyama to Bokuto. It's no wonder that some people have nicknamed them the monster generation."

"Now, let's introduce both teams' starting lineups."

On with Chapter 42:

3RD PERSON POV

The players from both teams were then introduced to the crowd as they threw signed mini-volleyballs to the audience as a souvenir. Even the coaches had their own volleyballs to throw.

The two former managers were chatting when Amako saw something flying towards them in her peripherals. She immediately stopped talking and braced to get hit. When a second passed with her still being fine, she opened her eyes and saw a (s/c) hand gripping onto the volleyball.

Looking down at the court, they saw the setter for MSBY Black Jackals apologize to them for almost hitting them by clapping his hands together and bowing his head slightly. A thumbs up and thumbs down was shown to ask if they were fine. A quick thumbs up from (Y/n) was shown to the blonde and he nodded before heading back to his team.

"Today's game is finally ready to begin, with Hinata's former teammate and now opponent Kageyama up to serve." Kageyama went to the back of the court with the ball. "I'm sure the recent world tournament is fresh in the Black Jackals' minds, when Kageyama ripped off five service aces in a row against France. Will they be able to fend him off first thing?"

The referee blew the whistle to signal the start of the serve.

Kageyama threw the ball up and jumped to spike it hard. The ball flew through the air dangerously quick, as if one's arms would break if they were to receive that. It also traveled so quick that it looked as if no one would be able to receive it, but thankfully Hinata managed to receive it with his quick reaction.

"Kageyama's serve put the French National Team on the ropes...but Hinata Shoyo bumps it cleanly on the first try!" The ball was passed to Atsumu who tossed the ball up.

"Hm? Ooh. Miya Atsumu got a beautiful pass off the serve..but he chose not to use a quick set or a combo play?"

As the ball went up, an orange-haired figure followed it closely, shocking a lot of the spectators if not all, before spiking it down to the corner of the court.

'Man, I haven't seen that spike in so long.. Did his jump get higher?' (Y/n) reminisced about her highschool days as if it was yesterday.

"Wow..! The first point of the game goes to Hinata Shoyo in his debut game!"

"From beginning to end, that rally was all Hinata Shoyo! First he made a spectacular bump, then he made a spectacular score off of it!"

It was then Atsumu's turn to serve.

Spectators and cheerleaders were cheering and clapping their thundersticks as the blonde strolled to the back of the court. He stopped and turned to face away from the spectators and lifted up his hand before gripping it into a fist to silence them.

Everyone, including MSBY's supporters, tensed up at his action and the silence.

"W-Woah.." the managers couldn't help but to be amazed at the scene since it was their first time seeing this in person.

The setter threw the ball up and did a jump serve that unfortunately landed just barely outside of the court. The referee lifted up the flag he had in his hand to signal that it was indeed out and Adlers gained the point.

(Y/n) let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.

"Miya Atsumu's serve was a mean one, but it lands just on the wrong edge of the sideline."

...

Clap..Clap..Clap

Bokuto was going around the court as much as he could while clapping with his entire arm.

"Hahaha! There he goes again. Bokuto's encouraging the crowd to clap to his serve."

Bokuto went back to the serving line and threw the ball up to do a jump serve. Hoshiumi received the ball and Bokuto was frustrated that his "High Spirits Bomb" was received.

The ball was passed to Kageyama who tossed it to Ushijima. "Woah! Look at that form!" the (h/c-ette) couldn't help but to comment on it. He hit the ball over with a strong spike. Shion went to receive it but it bounced off of his arms the wrong way and went out of the court.

"Boom goes Japan's Biggest Cannon.. Ushijima Wakatoshi!"

"Wakatoshiiiii!" the three former third years cheered for the male excitedly and the youngest of the four clapped her hand in amazement.

"He bounced that one right off of Inuaki, the libero."

"That he did! His strength is on par with the strongest in the world."

"Nice spike! Nice spike!"

...

Thomas served the ball over and Romero bumped it up to Kageyama cleanly. He then ran towards the net and jumped for the spike down. Bokuto was unfortunate enough to be the nearest one to receive it...with his chest?

The spike was too fast for him to use his arms, so out of relfex..

"And Bokuto bumps it with a chester!"

"Pfft-" "Aha-!" The group stifled their laughs at the unexpected play. "Who would think to use their chest to receive instead of dodging?" "Bokuto apparently."

The ball managed to bounce towards Atsumu who jumped and did a dump.

"Whooooooops! Miya Atsumu shocks everyone with a setter dump!"

"It's the really effective setter dumps that leave everyone else wondering "now of all times?!" while the setter was thinking "now is the best time." "

...

After about half an hour, the first set finally ended with the Black Jackals winning and a score of 25-20.

The second set followed after a short break and the players' skills and plays did not falter.

Spike after set after receive, everything they did was amazing. It seemed like neither team was tired as they continued putting all their strength into each hit.

At one point, (Y/n) for some reason remembered about the times in middle school when she saw the current Kageyama perform a dump.

She remembered the first time Kageyama approached her in middle school.

"(L/n)-senpai?"

"Hm?"

"Does Oikawa-senpai hate me?"

Nevertheless, (Y/n) had to frantically explain that Oikawa doesn't hate him, just that the brunette was a competitive person and wanted to focus on only improving his skills as the team's setter. Not that she was wrong.

When the junior left, she immediately went to Oikawa and smacked him on the shoulder before scolding him for being so harsh on the first year.ar.

Somehow, she managed to attract him every time they met. Not in the romantic way, but in a platonic love way. He for some reason felt safe around her, he felt as if he could talk about anything to her.

If he wanted to practice extra, the first person he would ask would be Oikawa but that obviously wouldn't work, so the next best person would be (Y/n). She wouldn't hesitate to grab a spare volleyball from the cart and help him with his sets.

And when his grandfather had passed away, the first person he thought of was (Y/n) since he was seeking comfort. The funeral was a few days prior, but he felt empty and cold. He wanted someone to talk to, but didn't know who except for his senior. 

Unfortunately, he didn't have her contact information or any other way to meet her, so he used volleyball as a distraction instead.

Back to the match, Kageyama set the ball up and Hirugami hit it down, scoring a point for the Adlers.

"It wasn't the cleanest pass, but does that matter? No! Third verse, same as the first! Once again, Hirugami goes right over the middle for the score!!

"I was convinced he would go to his sides this time, haha"

"Kageyama Tobio has the Black Jackals' blockers completely dancing to his tune!"

"Gasp!" Amako suddenly gasped upon realization and only (Y/n) managed to hear it as the other two were busy cheering on their friend. "Amako? What happened?"

"The king.. He's back!"
