ROUND TWO
Considering that she hadn't been in an actual fight in a few years, -minus the slight misunderstanding between her and a man at a bar who was looking where he definitely wasn't supposed to- Elizabeth was doing a lot better than she expected.
However it was very clear that the assassin had the upper hand, even with her extra abilities. He was fast and strong. He fought her back as if it was his very purpose in life. For Elizabeth on the other hand she may have been a little rusty. But then again, her being rusty was better than most professionals on a good day.
She blocked every punch he threw and deflected every kick he sent her way. Same went for him, every thrust she made with her knife, he deflected with his metal arm, causing a loud screech to echo throughout the now deserted highway.
But then she saw her chance, a split second where he made a move to strike at her abdomen, he was just a second too late and that was all she needed. Raising the knife in her hand, she made a move to stab him in his left shoulder.
A millisecond before the knife found its home, he ducked to his right, narrowly avoiding her blade. Catching her hand in his metal one, she heard a sickening crunch as he crushed her hand in his. Most likely breaking some bones, the knife dropped from her hand onto the ground with a clattering noise. She realised her mistake the moment he let go of her hand only to wrap it around her throat for the second time that day.
Lifting her off the ground, he stalked over to a nearby car . Slamming her back onto the front of the car, shattering its windshield in the process. Elizabeth's breathing stopped as the man that stood above her applied more pressure to her throat.
Thankfully a gunshot rang throughout the air as a bullet cut through the air. The bullet would've found it's spot in the assassins chest if he hadn't moved out of the way in time. As the mans head snapped toward the direction where it came from, Elizabeth raised her hands up and fired a blast of energy from her hands. Looking back at his victim just in time, the assassin was blinded by a bright blue light coming straight towards his face.
Elizabeth felt the grip on her neck go slack as the assassin stumbled back as he pried his tactical goggles off his face, not wanting any shards of glass in his eyes. The blast had propelled the man a few feet away from her. Within that time, Elizabeth had bounced back to her feat, glancing at her discarded weapon for a moment. Deciding to take the chance and not pick up her knife, she felt the heat rush to her hands once more.
She got into her fighting stance as the man in front of her discarded his goggles and in that moment she noticed something. His eyes were blue, so blue that it almost made the energy that danced around her fingertips look a dull grey.
But then those blue eyes also looked ready to kill. They looked like they had seen nothing but violence and they held as much emotion as a potted plant. But it still didn't explain why she couldn't feel anything from him despite how hard she tried. It was like there was a block that either prevented her from feeling his emotions or simply him feeling anything at all.
His cold gaze met hers as he looked up with a glare. Reaching behind him, he pulled out a pistol from its place. He raised the gun and took aim. Elizabeth was ready for it, nearly releasing the surge of energy that ran through her veins.
Their little stare off was interrupted by a bullet lodging itself into one of the assassins huge thighs. It was as if he didn't even register the wound. All he looked was a mixture between bored and frustration. Both their heads snapped into the direction where the bullet came from. Stood by one of the cars, Sam held a rifle in his hands. Elizabeth let out a sigh of relief when she saw that he was okay. Her relief quickly turned into near panic when she saw the assassin aim his gun toward Sam.
As fast as she could, she released a burst of energy toward the man. Proceeding to knock him off his feet, straight through the barrier and onto the road below. Elizabeth ran to the ledge, she peered below expecting to see the man only to be met with an empty road save for a few discarded cars.
"Where'd he go?" She heard Sam's footsteps approach her, the sound of pieces of cement getting kicked across the road.
She shook her head in disbelief, not understanding how the man could disappear so quickly. "It's like he's a ghost," she muttered to herself. "I couldn't feel anything from him."
"Yeah," Sam agreed with her first statement, not quite sure not to make of the latter. He examined Elizabeth out of the corner of his eye, making sure she didn't have any serious injuries. "Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine," she lied as she subconsciously rubbed her hand softly. Oh yeah, it was definitely broken, fractured at least. "I had that by the way," she scolded him for interfering.
"Sure you did," Sam mused with a smirk knowing her all too well to know that she'd never ask for help no matter how much she needed it. "Who even is that guy?"
Elizabeth was about to respond, saying that she had no idea, when the shooting started up again. They both looked over the ledge and saw that a trio of HYDRA agents were shooting toward a bus that she could only hope was empty. As if that wasn't enough, the sound of something exploding echoed faintly in the distance.
Looking around them, Elizabeth saw multiple unconscious bodies scattered around. "You got the suit?" She asked Sam as he nodded, pointing to their overturned car behind them.
"I'm guessing you want the one where shit blows up?" Sam called after her as she picked her knife up from the ground, dusting off the gravel.
Turning around, she held her arms open as she walked backwards toward the sound of the explosion. "You know me so well," she called out with a smile before taking off in a sprint.
She reached Natasha just in time to see her get shot from a distance. Picking up her speed, she sat next to the red head, hearing her heavy breathing. She leaned against an abandoned car, hidden from plain sight. Immediately, she pressed her hand to Natasha's wound. She tried to ease up some of of her pain upon hearing the other woman wince. "He's here," she whispered quietly to Elizabeth.
The two sat in eerie silence, keeping a look out for any sign of noise. The quiet was interrupted by loud footsteps on top the car behind them. What was it with this guy and cars? Elizabeth's head snapped up only to be staring down the barrel of a gun. She squeezed her eyes shut, ready for the loud 'bang' that never came.
Opening her eyes, she saw Steve tackle the man off the car. Neither her nor Natasha could see the two, the only thing signaling that the two men were fighting was the sound of blows landing and some grunts of pain.
Ignoring them, Elizabeth focused back on Natasha. She ripped a piece of her shirt and tied it around the redheads shoulder. Making sure to tie it as tight as she could without hurting her. Elizabeth felt a sting in her shoulder which was caused by her taking most of Natasha's pain from her.
"Don't do that," Natasha chided when she saw her wince. Her words were light and breathy as all the pain was no longer in her body. All she felt was numbness slowly spreading from her shoulder to rest of her body. "I'm a big girl, I can handle it." She smirked as Elizabeth who worked carefully on the tourniquet.
"Yeah well, what use is it if I can do these things but I don't actually use them?" She replied without taking her eyes off the white fabric that was beginning to slowly stain red.
Natasha ignored her reply, "Go and help Steve. I'll be fine."
Standing up fully, she watched from behind the car as Steve seemed to be holding his own against the assassin much better than she did. Kneeling back on the ground, she ripped another piece of her shirt, deciding that one layer wasn't enough to stop the bleeding. "Yeah," Elizabeth drawled out playfully. "I'm not ready for a round two with that guy. Besides, I think Steve is doing okay."
"Go," Natasha told her sternly as she tugged on her arm. She checked in the womans green eyes, making sure that she really was okay before standing up.
"Don't sleep," she reminded before making her way over to Steve.
Once she was right behind the assassin, she sent a quick nod of greeting to Steve before kicking the assassin right behind the kneecaps. Bringing him down to his knees, Steve was able to deliver a quick blow to his head.
Getting up just as fast as he came down, the man turned toward Elizabeth and landed a hard kick to her stomach. She took a few steps back, regaining her balance just as Steve flipped the man over his shoulder. Sending him tumbling right past Elizabeth.
When he stood up, his mask was gone. It lay discarded right by Elizabeth's feet, not that she noticed. She was too busy looking at the bewildered expression on Steve's face as the man turned around.
"Bucky?" Steve said so quietly that she almost didn't hear it. All she could feel from him was confusion and sadness, so much sadness.
The assassin tilted his head, obviously not knowing what Steve was talking about. "Who the hell is Bucky?" He aimed his gun right toward Steve who didn't even acknowledge the weapon.
Elizabeth had made a move for Steve, but was proved pointless when Sam swooped down and kicked the assassin in the head. The man rolled across the ground and stoop up smoothly. And for the first time, she felt something from him. His emotions mirrored Steve's, confusion, sadness but with a hint of pain. But all of these were masked as if someone was fighting so desperately to keep them down.
Looking toward the mans face, his face looked wild and his eyes were darting around from place to place. As if trying to remember something. But then it looked like his internal battle was won. Those blue eyes turned back into those from before as he raised his gun at Steve, who once again showed no sign of seeing the weapon.
Ducking as she heard the grenade launcher fire from behind her, she watched as the grenade exploded a few feet away from the assassin. Veiling him in smoke, he must've taken the opportunity cause when the smoke cleared and the sirens got closer, he disappeared once again.
