NOT A CLUE
"Here." Sam walked up to where Elizabeth and Bucky stood, tossing a sniper that they had laying around the jet his way. Sam had on his suit and wings on his back as he came to a stop a few feet away from the couple.
Bucky caught the weapon in his right hand swiftly, before lowering it to his side. He moved the weapon to his metal arm before placing his right arm over Elizabeth's shoulders, the two of them watching as Rhodey exited the jet. The heavy sound of his suit rang in their ears loudly as walked over to them.
"Did you get the extra comms?" She asked Sam as he moved to stand under the shade of the building. Beside her, Bucky reached behind and placed the gun in it's holster on the back of his uniform.
He rolled his eyes at her before rummaging around in one of his many suit pockets. "Did I get the comms?" He scoffed as he mocked her voice. Elizabeth glared at him harshly while he took out the earpiece from his pocket. "I still don't like you," Sam muttered to Bucky before he passed the small device into his hand.
"Fine by me," Bucky retorted as he placed the earpiece into its rightful place. The two continued to glare at each other, Elizabeth watching in amusement by Bucky's arm. Sam had opened his mouth to add another remark but Rhodey silenced him with a stern look.
"I'm not gonna deal with this," Rhodey said as the metal helmet retracted back into his suit. "You two better not start or so help me I will put you two in time out." While Sam nodded at the mans threatening words, Bucky grumbled under his breath quietly before looking back up at the sky, squinting under the sunlight.
As Elizabeth looked around as the multiple armies scrambled to get into place with their weapons ready, she realised she was missing one crucial factor. "Hey, um," she called out to Rhodey. "What exactly are we trying to stop this Thanos guy from doing? Is he like on an Ultron level or?" She trailed off, not knowing what kind of answer to expect.
"Trust me," Rhody told her. "Whatever you think this guy has planned, it's much worse," he admitted gravely.
"Like on a scale of one to ten, where are we in the danger zone?" Sam asked curiously as he checked all the controls on his suit, making sure everything was in order.
"I'd say a pretty strong 11," Bruce's voice came on over the radio, startling all of them. "He plans to wipe out half of the planet. All with just the snap of his fingers."
Bucky's hand stopped playing with the ends of her hair at the words. "Using the infinity stones?" Elizabeth asked shakily.
"Yeah," Bruce answered and they all sighed. "That's why we gotta destroy the mind stone -the one in Vision- without even one of them, he can never win."
"Great, thanks." She thanked Bruce grimly. "Always nice talking to you, Bruce." There was no response from him as the radio went silent once again.
Then, Sam and Rhodey began to discuss the tactics they would take. The two were basically the only help they would get in the air so they had to work closely together. As the two spoke, she felt Bucky remove his arms from her shoulder.
He grabbed ahold of her hand and pulled her further away and out of earshot from the two. He placed her in front of him with his hands resting on her shoulders. Bucky sighed as he stared into her eyes, already knowing that she was not going to like what he said next.
"If it comes down to me or you-" He began and Elizabeth shook her head from side to side, pushing his arms off her.
"It won't," she said sternly. While she may have sounded so sure, she could already feel her insides eating her up. Wondering what would happen if he was right.
Clicking his tongue to the roof of his mouth, he pulled her back towards him. "If it does," he repeated as he tried to catch her gaze. Her blue eyes darted back and forth, from the building behind him, to the ground, everywhere but his face. Bringing a hand up, she tilted her head to face him. "It has to be you," he finished.
"I don't think we have a say in who stays and who goes," Elizabeth stated as he moved some hair out of her face affectionately. "You just focus on keeping yourself alive out there." She tapped his chest with her finger. "One more fight, then we go home. Together." She reminded him of what he said to her earlier.
"Right, of course." He nods and leans down to press a lingering kiss to her lips. "I was just saying," he trailed off once they had pulled apart.
"Well, now I'm saying not to think about it." Elizabeth forced a smile, not letting him know that his words got to her. "What you can think about, is what colours you'd want the walls to be in our new home."
He hummed in response to her changing the subject. "What about orange," he suggested.
Scrunching her face up, she spoke. "You have got to be kidding me," she sighed with a palm to her forehead. "Orange, really?"
"Nah," he blurted out with a teasing smile. "I'm just messing with you."
While his words sounded lighthearted and playful, Elizabeth could still feel the worry stirring inside him. The feeling as present as ever. "Good," she forced out as she swallowed down hard, burying the sinking feeling deep down inside her.
"Guys," Sam's voice came in through their earpieces despite him being within yelling distance. Bucky and Elizabeth turned to see Sam looking up at they sky with his visor on, Rhodey beside him with his helmet on his head. "We got incoming," Sam spoke, directing his observation to those inside the building.
She looked up and saw as some sort of alien spacecraft that looked straight out of Star Wars descent closer and closer to them from the sky. "Is it just me or is that thing getting a little too close?" She asked the three around her, worried for their safety and everyone else's.
It was as if the universe had heard her. The spacecraft collided with what she only now noticed as an invisible barrier. The barrier acted like a dome, protecting the entire city from any outside threats. It stopped the spacecraft from moving any further before it went up in flames. Pieces of the foreign vehicle falling down the side of the barrier, signaling that it was in fact destroyed completely.
"God, I love this place," Bucky murmured with his gaze still on the barrier around the city. He moved to take out the gun from its place on his back and held it in his hands.
"Don't start celebrating just yet," Rhodey commented as he looked off to the other side of the city. "We got more incoming, outside of the dome."
She looked off into the distance and saw a few more ships fall down in streaks of fire, vaguely resembling meteors. Smoke trailed behind them before the ships landed, causing the ground beneath them to shake lightly.
Bucky held a hand out to stable Elizabeth, despite knowing that she was more than capable of taking care of herself. However, when she felt his hand graze her waist, she reached out and squeezed his hand tightly.
Sam winced as he saw the destruction just outside the dome. "Cap," he called out to Steve. "What's our next move?" He asked after a hum in response from Steve.
"Meet us on the other side," Steve's voice was accompanied by faint shouting and talking. "You all know what's coming," he added somberly.
No one moved at first, despite getting their instructions clear as day. All of them dreading what was in their path. Sam was the one to get them moving as he cleared his throat. "You heard the man," he said. "Let's move out." They all nodded in response, making their first steps.
Before they could get more than three feet from their current position, a voice called out to them. "Wait for us!" Elizabeth recognised that voice.
Turning around, she saw Luke and Leo both run up to the group. They were out of breath once they had come to a stop in front of Elizabeth. Luke and Leo both wore plain black cargo pants with red and green shirts respectively.
"You're late," she chided the two with a raised eyebrow. Within the two years that she had spent on the run, she had managed to somewhat fix her relationship with the two. Albeit, it was still rocky and they made her want to gouge her eyes out, they were getting there.
Luke scoffed and rolled his eyes at her. "You should be glad we're even here," he retorted as Leo nodded in agreement, leaning on his brother's shoulder.
"Emilie?" Elizabeth asked as Bucky walked up to stand beside her, nodding at her brothers curtly.
"She's safe," Luke answered. "Back in Paris, taking care of your cat." Elizabeth had entrusted Emilie with Alpine whenever she had something to take care of, remembering to either visit or bring the feline back to Bucky whenever she had the chance.
"Good," she replied. She looked around her brothers to see Sam glaring at the back of their heads. It was safe to say that he still wasn't entirely happy with them just yet. She would even go to the extent to say he almost hated them as much as Bucky, almost.
"Look, I hate to break up whatever this is," Rhodey interjected impatiently. "But we really gotta go and I don't wanna take the time to unpack whoever the hell you two are." He raised an arm of his suit and waved it vaguely around to where the three siblings stood.
"I second that," Sam agreed before stalking past them and leading the way for them. Rhodey followed behind him before her brothers went ahead.
Bucky grabbed her hand in his as they walked behind the four. "Do they know what's going on?" He whispered in her ear as he tilted his head toward Luke and Leo.
"Not a clue," she whispered back, unable to decide if that was a good thing or not.
