HE'LL GROW

There was a knock at the door and Elizabeth put down the picture frame in her hand. She wiped the dust off her hands and walked up to the door, from her place by Sam's bedside table. She wiped at her nose as she saw the dust particles flying around the air.

She opened the door and Pietro stood there with his arms across his chest, tilting his head when he saw her runny nose. He poked his head past her and looked inside the vacant room. "All good in here?" He asked her with a raised eyebrow.

"It's just the dust," Elizabeth waved her hand to the inside of the room. It was true, she stopped crying when she entered the room after the first three years. She stepped out of the room and closed the door behind her. "Is Bruce here?"

Steve, Natasha and Scott had left to go meet up with Bruce, asking the scientist about their plan. Elizabeth stayed back with the twins, seeing that she wasn't needed. Pietro nodded his head at her question hesitantly. "Yes, but he's different." He looked for the right word with a frown.

Shrugging it off, she followed Pietro as he led her to Bruce. She didn't think much of his choice of words, thinking Bruce maybe got a new haircut or something. But she was proven very very wrong when she met up with everyone in one of their empty hangars.

"What the hell," Elizabeth commented as she looked up at Bruce who stood a few feet away from her. He was green, very green and very big. But that wasn't unusual to her. What threw her off was that he was fully clothed and wearing his usual glasses, while being very green and big.

Bruce held his large arms out with a smile at her. "Ta-da!" He exclaimed proudly and she saw in his face that this was definitely Bruce, not the Hulk.

She continued to stare at him before looking off to the side at Natasha and Steve. "Do I even wanna ask?" She questioned the two. They both shook their heads silently but Bruce had already begun to delve into his explanation.

"18 months in a gamma lab," Bruce began as he pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "I put the brains and the bronze together. Now look at me, I got the best of both worlds." He held both his hands together as he spoke the proud smile never leaving his face.

Elizabeth simply nodded and held a thumbs up to Bruce, a somewhat confused smile on her face. A few feet away from Scott, Wanda cleared her throat. "Can you do it?" She asked Bruce, making him turn around to face her. "The time travel, is it possible?"

Bruce nodded hesitantly. "I have a theory," he informed them all. "But we'll have to test it out first."

Steve nodded beside Natasha and looked up at Bruce. "So that's what we'll do," Steve announced, eager to get to work. "What do you need?" He asked Bruce expectantly.

Bruce dipped his hand inside the pocket of his jeans before pulling out a crumpled piece of paper that looked like it was holding together by sheer force. Bruce swore quietly when he saw the condition of the paper and flattened it out in his hand, the paper looking tiny in the palm of his hand.

"I actually have a list," He said sheepishly. His awkward pause made them all urge him to continue with a nod of their heads. "Wait, this is the wrong one," Bruce began as he squinted at the paper.

He patted down the pockets in his jacket and pulled out a different, much larger piece of paper that looked in much worse condition than the last one, if that was even possible. Bruce grinned as he held the paper up.

Elizabeth heard Pietro groan and she looked to him just as he sped off to snatch the paper from Bruce's green hand. Faster than either one of them could blink, Pietro was already at the entrance to the hangar.

"I'm on it," he shouted to them as he held up the piece of paper before speeding off.

There was a sigh and they all saw Bruce shake his head. "I didn't like him then and I still don't now," he murmured making Wanda grin lightly.

"How about your stuff?" Elizabeth called out to Scott. "Do you have it here?"

Scott nodded at her and he swayed from side to side as he felt all eyes on him. "I'll bring the van here," he told them.

When he made a move to head out, he felt the rest of them still looking at him. "Um, I'm not fast," he stated awkwardly. "So, I'm just going to walk."

Elizabeth laughed lightly at his words and tried not to increase her volume when she saw him walk out with his eyes trained on the floor.

"Fire her up, Scott," Bruce said with his eyes on the ugly brown van in the middle on the room. Elizabeth stood between Wanda and Natasha as they watched as Scott- now in his full Ant-Man suit- open up the back doors to his van.

The inside of the van looked nothing like she expected. It was bright and colourful and looked like it could pass for the inside of one of the Care Bears. The streams of bright lights bounced off the walls inside the van and Elizabeth had enough brain cells to guess that this is how Scott would get to the inside of the quantum realm.

"Breakers are all set," Steve announced as his loud voice echoed off the walls. He came to stand beside Bruce who pressed some buttons on his control panel in front of him. A moment later they heard Pietro's fast footsteps in the distance.

He came to a stop and nodded at Bruce. "The emergency generators are on standby," he informed them all. Natasha was passed a tablet by Bruce and Elizabeth moved to get the last piece of Scott's suit that was sitting in a crate behind them.

"Good," Bruce said without looking up from his work. "Cause if we blow the grid, I don't wanna lose tiny here in the 1950's." He jutted his thumb at Scott whose eyes went wide at the statement.

Turning to face Bruce properly, Scott's actions made Elizabeth pinch his side as she tried to properly put on the suit Bruce had made. "What?" Scott asked worriedly. He made a move to go up to Bruce but Elizabeth pulled him back towards her by the back of his suit.

"He's kidding," Elizabeth lied to Scott. None of them knew how right or wrong this could go. "You are going to be fine," she assured him carefully as she calmed him down with her abilities. If his vitals were all over the place it could mess with their trial test.

Hitting the back of his suit lightly, she made sure it didn't completely fall before handing him his helmet that resembled an astronauts one. "Right," Scott breathed out nervously as he looked at the helmet in his hand. "Time to go back, or front." His attempt at a joke merely made her scrunch up her face, telling him it was a poor attempt.

Scott made a move to put his helmet on. "Hey, he was definitely joking earlier right?" Scott questioned her unsurely with a wary glance back at Bruce.

"Ninety-percent sure," Elizabeth murmured before shoving Scott toward his van. He looked like he wanted to protest but at this point Bruce was ready.

"We're good!" Bruce announced with a thumbs up and Elizabeth walked backwards to stand beside Pietro.

Pietro leaned over to whisper at her. "10 dollars says he is not going to make it," Pietro offered her the deal with a smirk.

Wanda overheard and slapped her brother's shoulder harshly, telling him not to say such things. "10 bucks says he does," Elizabeth retorted to Pietro before the two of them shook hands. Sealing the deal.

"Alright, Scott." Bruce began and he flipped some more switches and keys on the board. "We're going to send you back a week, and let you walk around for an hour. Then I'll bring you back in ten seconds. Make sense?"

Scott waved his hand at the question. "Perfectly not confusing at all," he lied through his teeth with a grimace on his face.

"Good luck, Scott." Steve nodded at the man, Steve usually being the one with wise motivational words. "You've got this."

Scott returned the nod proudly, obviously still giddy that Captain America knew his name. "You're right," he held his head high with a smile. "I do, Captain America." Scott pressed a button on his suit and was sucked into the blinding lights in the van.

All of them held their breaths as Bruce positioned his hand over the big red button. It was silent for a few seconds until he spoke. "On the count of three," he started anxiously. "Three, two, one." Bruce pressed down on the button and they all waited for Scott's figure to emerged.

When a prepubescent teenager appeared in the spot where Scott should have been, needless to say they were all well near passing out. The only indication that the teen was in fact Scott and not just some poor unfortunate soul was that he was still wearing the same suit as before.

"Um, guys," young Scott began and all of them cringed even more when they heard his voice. "This doesn't feel right," he continued as he looked at his covered hands.

"No kidding," Pietro commented as he and his sister both stared at the younger version of Scott.

There was some frantic mumbling coming from Bruce as he moved around the control panels, making all of them step to the side, wanting to give him some space. "Can you fix it?" Steve asked Bruce with a frown as they all continued to stare at 'Scott'.

"What is going on?" Natasha waved her hands to gesture to the scene in front of her. But then she gasped as a thought struck her. "Oh my god, is that Scott?" She exclaimed in shock.

Young Scott sent Natasha a look that said 'no shit.' "Of course it's Scott!" He replied, just as scared as the rest of them.

"Does not look like him, though." Wanda observed as Bruce continued to work by the control panel.

He nodded at Wanda with a sigh. "Yeah, I noticed," he retorted before looking up to the teen. "Scott, I'm sending you back." Bruce pressed the big red button once more and Scott was sucked back in once more.

Only to have Scott come out as an eighty year old man. Old man Scott stood there rubbing his hip with a frown on his face. "My back is killing me," he said distastefully and he sounded exactly like how he looked, old.

Pietro looked at Scott indifferently. "And now he is old," commented before crossing his arms in front of him.

"You two really are no help," Bruce looked at the twins with a glare before sending old man Scott back into the quantum realm.

When a baby came back out of the quantum realm none of them should have been surprised at this point. They should have been used to royally fucking up by now. "It's a baby," Steve deadpanned into the stunned silence of the room.

"It's Scott!" Bruce tried to make the situation better.

Elizabeth looked at him with her mouth hung open at his reasoning. "As a baby!" She exclaimed frantically, pointing the baby that had now begun to take a few cautious steps forward.

"He'll grow," Bruce tried once more.

Natasha looked to Bruce with a sigh, not believing what came out of his mouth. "Bruce!" She chided as she jerked her head in the direction of the baby. "Bring our Scott back."

He mumble something too low for them to hear before he turned to Pietro. "When I say kill the power, kill the power," he instructed.

Pietro nodded before dashing out of sight. There was a faint yell from somewhere behind them, Pietro letting them know that he was ready. Elizabeth thought she heard Bruce praying as he sent baby Scott back into the quantum realm.

Bruce adjusted some controls and turned back. "Kill the power," he instructed Pietro and there was a flip of a switch and Scott was shot out of the van, landing on his feet in an awkward stance. He had both his arms out as the light from inside the van died out.

Sighs of relief went around the room when they saw Scott was the proper one from their time. "Somebody peed my pants," was the first thing that he said, still unmoving. "But I don't know if it was baby me, or old me. Or maybe just me."

Natasha had a strong grip on Elizabeth's right arm as the two both shook their heads in relief. Elizabeth felt her heart beat return to normal and Natasha released her arm with a small pat on the back.

All of their heads slowly turned silently to look at Bruce. Each one of their faces mirrored the same disbelief and exhaustion from the rollercoaster that was their first test drive. "Time travel!" Bruce opted to exclaim with a wide smile on his face, both his arms spread wide as if to say that they did a good job.

Steve immediately hung his head and placed his hands on his hips in disappointment before walking out of the room. "What?" Bruce questioned when he saw their long faces. "I see this as an absolute win."

Spotting Pietro beside Wanda, Elizabeth reached over and pushed him over the shoulder. "You owe me ten bucks," she reminded him with a grin. He merely nodded, telling her that he wouldn't forget, before walking off with his arm around his sister's shoulder.

Someone cleared their throat behind her and she turned around to see Scott standing there with an embarrassed look on his face. He held his helmet in one hand and looked at her. Before he could ask the question she knew was coming, Elizabeth held up a hand to silence him.

"Yeah, sorry, buddy." Elizabeth grimaced at him apologetically. "I'm not touching that thing." She pointed to his now contaminated suit and he nodded, understanding her reasoning behind it.

"I'll just ask Natasha," Scott told her meekly before waddling off to where Bruce and Natasha stood, talking amongst themselves.

"Good luck with that," she called out after him before making her way out of the hangar.
