EXCUSE US

"It's not fair that you guys get to have cool suits," Elizabeth grumbled out as she walked between Sam and Natasha. Their trek through the forest came to an end at a small clearing where they saw the outline of SHIELD headquarters come up ahead.

Everyone was dressed up in their own special suits. Elizabeth on the other hand only wore her most comfortable pair of jeans and a plain blue t-shirt. Even Sam had his wings that were folded in to make him look badass. Natasha and Steve didn't even need any explanation.

Steve stopped them with Maria beside him. "You know," he began as Maria passed out the small earpieces for them to put in their ears for communication. "I'm sure we can get Stark to make one for you."

Natasha nodded as she placed the earpiece in it's place. "And I'm sure you two would get along just fine." The sun shined through he trees brightly, making her feel warm.

From beside her, Sam got her attention with a light push of his shoulders. "Do you think this means we're Avengers now?" He asked her excitedly with a broad smile.

"Well, that depends on how well you do the job." Steve joked as he placed his helmet on. There was light laughter around them as they all got ready. "We all know the plan?" Steve asked as they all nodded in unison. "Then let's go."

"You didn't have to kick down the door," Elizabeth remarked as they stepped over the broken door. Maria and Sam had their guns pointed at two SHIELD agents with shocked expressions on their faces.

Steve shrugged as the four of them walked into the room where their first goal was, the PA system. "I was in the moment," Steve muttered to her before looking up at the two agents. "Excuse us," he told them as they held up both hands in surrender before stepping aside.

Sam and Maria helped Steve find the intercom as Elizabeth slowly began to put everyone asleep. Before they knew it, every single one of the agents were unconscious on the ground. It would have been much less draining for her to just let them go but they would never know if they were HYDRA or SHIELD. At this point the two were practically one anyways.

"Steve," Sam called from beside the intercom. "I found it."

The four of them crowded around the intercom as Steve took off his helmet. For comfort? For the dramatics? Who knows. He pressed a button as the light turned red, and he leaned in to the mic.

"Attention all SHIELD agents, this is Steve Rogers." He spoke as his voice was heard throughout the building. His voice even coming through the few overhead speakers they had in the room. "I'm sure you've heard a lot about me over the last few days. Some of you were even ordered to hunt me and my friends down. But I think it's time you know the truth."

"SHIELD is not what we thought it was, it's been taken over by HYDRA. Alexander Pierce is their leader," he continued as Sam and Elizabeth shared a glance. "The Strike and Insight crew are HYDRA as well. We don't know how many more there are, but I know they're in the building. They could be standing right next to you for all we know. They almost have what they want, absolute control. They shot Nick Fury and it won't end there."

Steve cleared hos voice before beginning to end his speech. "If you launch those helicarriers today, HYDRA will be able to kill anyone that stands in their way. Unless we stop them. I know I'm asking a lot but the price of freedom is high, it always has been. But it's a price I'm willing to pay. And if I'm the only one, then so be it. But I'm willing to bet I'm not." He lifted his finger off the button before turning to look at Sam and Elizabeth.

"Wow," Elizabeth slow clapped as she sent the man a teasing smile. "If that speech of yours doesn't convince them to join our side, I don't know what will."

Sam patted Steve on his arm as the blond put back his helmet on once more. "She's right," Sam agreed. "Did you have that prepared or was it off the top of your head?"

"God," Steve started with a shake of his head. "You two don't ever stop do you?"

"Never," Elizabeth confirmed with a wide grin as she felt the adrenaline rush through her veins.

"What the fuck!" She yelled at the top of her lungs as the wind rushed through her hair. "Sam, what the fuck!"

Sam held onto her by her waist as he flew through the air, thousands of feet off the ground. It was the most terrifying thing she had ever experienced. The only thing that kept her from falling to her death was Sam's tight grip on her. The wind nipped at her skin as the strands of hair that had fallen out of it's ponytail was getting into her eyes.

"Quit yelling!" Sam shushed her as they two of them neared the first helicarrier. "You are not helping!"

Trying her absolute best not to look down, she shouted back at him, craning her neck to face him. "This was not part of the plan!" She felt the contents of her stomach churn as Sam took a sharp right. It definitely did not help that she had to be in a constant state of plank so that she didn't add any more extra weight onto Sam than she had to.

She heard him groan from above her, "Will you shut up and-" The loud sound of bullets ricocheting off his suit cut him off. "Lizzie, handle that will you," He instructed her he made quick turns to avoid the oncoming bullets.

"Lizzie, handle that will you," She mimicked in his voice as she rolled her eyes at the minor inconvenience.

Scoffing from above her, Sam  loosened his grip on her ever so slightly. "I will drop you," he threatened as Elizabeth quickly mumbled an apology.

Trying her best to wriggle her way around, she turned to see a fighter jet right on their heels. The pilot was too far away for her too put to sleep so she settled with what she had. Sticking her left hand out, she began to take aim. Feeling the energy rush through her arm as she usually would, she released it at the same time Sam took a sharp left.

The oncoming bullets narrowly avoided the two of them. "Could you be anymore unstable?" She chided with emphasis as she took aim once again.

"Now is not the time for a FRIENDS reference!" Sam yelled. Once she was sure she would hit her mark, she let go of the surge of energy. As she had hoped, it found its place right in the center of the fighter jet,  sending it straight down into the river below.

"Alpha locked," they both heard Steve's voice come over the radio, signaling that the first helicarrier has had it's server blade changed.

"Falcon and Elizabeth," Maria said over the radio. "Where are you guys at?"

"You know," she said to those through her earpiece. "I want a cool superhero name too."

"Ignore her," Sam told the two as they approached the helicarrier. Squeezing through one of the many spaces between the large open windows and metal beams. "Had to take a detour, but we're here now."

Sam set her down on one of the walkways as she regained her sense of balance. She fished around in her pockets for the server blade. Elizabeth walked up to Sam who stood by what looked like  bunch of electrical compartments to her.

Both of them looked through it until they found the slot where the server blade should go. She handed it to Sam as he inserted it. Around it, the light flashed green. "Bravo locked," She told the rest over the radio.

"Good," Steve said. "Agent Hill, do you have eyes on Natasha?"

"She's fine," Maria Hill answered. "Still in position and no one suspects a thing." There was another small 'good' from Steve before the radio went quiet once more.

"You ready?" Sam asked her as he stood at the end of the metal walkway, the wings of his wings spread out.

Elizabeth groaned slightly as she walked over to him. "Not really," she joked as he put his hands around her waist.

"Or, I could always just leave you." Sam  rebutted as she shook her head, mentally preparing herself for another round.

"Still gotta pick up Steve," She reminded him.

"You think he'll be mad if we stop for McDonalds?" he says playfully just as he shoved the two off them off the walkway. The thrusters in his suits kicked off as Elizabeth muttered a curse.
