Chapter 4

"Hello Mr. and Mrs. Kang. Welcome to the party," Jin greeted an elderly couple as he stood at the entrance of the dining hall of his mansion.

"Hello, Seokjin. How are you, dear?" asked the lady sweetly.

"I am good, aunty. Mom and Dad are over there. Let me take you to them," he offered courteously as he took the couple inside the hall.

"Jin, you are the perfect son. The party is a huge success, all thanks to you," said his father proudly.

"I had Jungkook with me too. It was not only me," he said softly.

Everyone engaged in their own affairs. Feeling free for a bit, Jin decided to walk out into the garden to check for any guests he forgot to attend.

"Oh, hey Jin!"

He turned around, and his eyes widened. There was the love of his life, dressed in a silky white dress as the sun kissed her beautiful face, making her dark eyes look ethereal. She flashed an innocent smile at him and walked to him eagerly, blabbering something in her soft, cute voice. But he heard nothing, as he was too lost in admiring her.

Sometimes, it is true that we relate to the lyrics of our favorite songs, and right now, Jin was experiencing the same...

'When I saw you in that dress,

Looking so beautiful,

I don't deserve this...

Darling, you look perfect...'

"How are you, Jin?" she asked softly, causing him to come out of his dream world.

"Uh, me? I—I am good. What about you?" he asked softly.

"I am good too. Like, I never knew you were the son of the Kim family," she squealed.

"Even I did not expect to see you here, Mihi. I never knew our families were close. In fact, I do not even know your family," he laughed.

"I think we never really met properly before. I am Lee Mihi, the daughter of the Lee family."

"You mean the owners of the VGM company?"

She nodded softly.

"I never knew our families were so close," he said with a smile.

"Even I did not know that Jungkook had an older brother," she smiled.

"Oh, the reason you and I never met must have been that I was always studying abroad in a boarding school and later for further studies," he said softly.

"Yes, that might be the reason," she said softly.

"Anyways, let's leave it aside. You look drop-dead gorgeous", he said softly, his eyes showing the amount of affection he stored for her.

"Oh, thank you so much," she said with a chuckle.

"Hyung!"

Jin and Mihi turned around to the voice. Her eyes widened slightly as she saw Jungkook standing in front of her.

"Hyung, Mom and Dad were asking about the cake cutting time," he said casually, not even sparing a glance at the girl standing with his brother.

"Yeah, I have had a word with the staff regarding that. They will switch the spotlights right at 6:00 pm", Jin said calmly.

"Okay, cool," Jungkook said, and his eyes finally went to the girl standing beside his brother.

"Oh, Mihi?" He squinted his eyes, trying to identify her.

She smiled nervously, saying a soft, 'Hello.'.

"How are you? Seen you after so long", he asked softly.

"I—I am fine," she said nervously.

"Cool. See you around then," he said calmly and walked away.

Jin looked at her softly, thinking of what to talk about, when he noticed her eyes staying on Jungkook a little longer. His eyes saw how hers delayed a little to avert. And at that moment, he felt his heart break a little.

"Mihi," he whispered softly, and he felt her eyes moving back to his face.

"Why don't we sit there on that bench?" he pointed at a secluded bench near the boundary of the mansion.

"Yeah, sure," she said, her mind still full of some thoughts.

He escorted her there respectfully. Sitting beside each other, they remained silent for a few minutes before he broke the silence.

"You... are quiet. Everything fine?"

"Yeah," she said, her tone deviating from her words.

"You can talk to me, okay?"

"Hmm."

"You knew Jungkook from before, right?", he asked, his tone careful and understanding.

"Yeah. We were classmates till high school. I changed my school after that", she said, her eyes fixed on the green, grassy ground beneath her feet.

A few minutes went by, and there was complete silence between the two of them.

"I... loved him," she whispered in a low tone while looking down.

Jin froze. He had already had a gut feeling, but hearing it from her own mouth definitely hurt more than ever. His love loved his own brother.

"Oh..."

"You won't tell him, right?" she asked nervously, her voice trembling a bit.

"I won't. You have my word. Nothing goes out of here", he assured her, breaking inside.

"I had been Jungkook's classmate ever since elementary school. I had never experienced love before and never thought of him or any guy in that manner before. But my feelings changed during the freshman year of high school. We were assigned a group project together, and all of a sudden, I had someone who completed the whole project alone. I remember that just an hour before this completion, I randomly texted him that I was too stressed about this research as I was not feeling well, but he told me not to worry. As soon as I opened the document, I felt a different feeling for him. I started to like him. We texted a bit, and then those short chats turned into daily, long ones. Everything was going too great, but then suddenly, he stopped. I questioned everything about myself, from blaming to hating me. My mental health worsened, and ultimately, I had to change my school. I moved on slowly, but now that I saw him again today, it feels like my heart was never over him in the first place", she said in one go, venting out all the thoughts that were troubling her since years.

She breathed heavily and continued staring at the ground as her eyes trickled with tears.

"Don't cry, Mihi. Here, drink some water. It's okay," he said as he patted her shoulder, his voice shaking a bit.

He struggled to stop his tears, but he knew he had to be strong. She was already weak, and he had to comfort her; he had to make her smile again.

"Your secret is safe with me, okay? Don't worry, everything will be fine," he said gently.

She nodded while wiping her eyes gently with a napkin.

"Do you want a hug?" he asked her softly.

She hugged him immediately. He stumbled a little, but hugged her back immediately.

"Shh, calm down. I am here for you, right? Consider me your close friend. You can share anything with me. I will try my best to solve everything," he patted her back.

"Thank you, Jin. I had been wanting to vent this out so bad," she said while stuttering with emotion.

He held onto her tightly, as tears rolled down his eyes, his heart aching in pain.

'Will you ever love me like him?'
