Chapter 6
Blue Beetle X Reader Chapter 6
I watched in fear as the door to the lab opened and the creature in red walked in. I still wasn't sure exactly what to call them. This one seemed to be female but I couldn't make assumptions as their species may not even have genders like we do.
"A pleasure meeting you, Kaldur'ahm." It spoke. This was the first I had heard it speak in English. Upon hearing the name I looked through the doorway which was only open for a very split second and my gaze met with Kaldur. For a split second, I could have sworn that I had seen regret in his eyes, but the door closed before I had the chance to confirm it. The creature turned around and gave me a sickening grin as my heart dropped. I knew what was about to happen.
The creature moved over to the screen and started pressing buttons. Almost instantaneously, the pain began. I screamed in agony, unable to do anything to stop it. I was useless trapped in here. Completely useless.

Exhausted after what felt like hours of torture, I watched as Jaime awoke with a gasp, but my view of him was soon blocked by the creature in red who stood in front of him, communicating to the Black Beetle in the language that I did not understand.
Since my mask had been ripped off and my secret revealed, Jaime didn't make eye contact with me. I often caught him staring at me but as soon as our eyes met, he'd look away sadly. The guilt of not telling him who I really am was eating me alive. I had planned to tell him. I was going to lead him on a little scavenger hunt of some sorts where he picked up clues along the way and at the end would be me, my suit, and food, and I'd explain it all to him while we ate and beg him to forgive me. But the way that it had been revealed to him was cruel for both of us. It came as a complete shock to him, and I had no way of explaining myself since we couldn't communicate other than vague facial expressions when the creatures had their backs turned.
I couldn't help but wonder how different things would have been if I had told him who I was right from the get-go. Perhaps we would have been hanging out together elsewhere right now instead of stuck in this situation. Maybe if he knew then he wouldn't have ditched me for Impulse and we would have been elsewhere during the ambush and we would not have been kidnapped.
I thought back even further, to the night that the scarab attached itself to Jaime. He was going to stay round mine so that we could play video games all night, but I got an emergency call from Nightwing saying that I was needed at Mount Justice. I had to lie to Jaime about having a migraine and because of that, he could no longer stay round mine. That meant that his mom wanted him home as soon as possible as it was getting close to curfew. I remember Jaime being a complete sweetheart and checking that I was okay and safely tucked up in bed before he reluctantly left me to go home. If he had know who I was back then, he could have stayed at mine until I came back home. He wouldn't have taken a shortcut and skated through the parking lot to get home in time, he would never have been near the explosion and the scarab wouldn't have attached itself to him in the first place. I could have saved him from all of this, he wouldn't be in this mess if it weren't for me. It was all my fault.
I watched with tears threatened to escape my eyes as the creatures once again caused Jaime's face to be contorted with pain. They were too busy to notice the commotion outside of the lab and the faint sound of an alarm of some sort. In a blur, the creature was knocked onto the ground by something moving very fast. It was Impulse. I watched as he ripped away parts of the pod and a now unconscious Jaime fell out. Thankfully, Impulse caught him before he hit the floor and gently laid him down before turning to me and pressing a couple of buttons on the pod that I was in until I was free. I stumbled out and he grabbed my arm, holding me steady to ensure that I didn't fall and hurt myself, so I gave him a thankful smile. I grabbed a folder off of the desk that appeared to have a picture of me on the front. This may be useful later.
Jaime began to wake up so Bart and I helped him to his feet, an arm around each of our necks to ensure that he didn't topple over. Fortunately, me and Bart were of similar heights so it was easy for us to work together in carrying our friend and teammate.
"I have something to admit to you both.." Impulse finally broke the silence with a sigh. "And I don't think that you're going to like it."

"That's how it was- I mean, how it will be. Somehow The Reach gets you on mode and Blue Beetle becomes the biggest, baddest bad in history." Impulse finished explaining to the both of us, causing me to look at him in pure shock and disbelief.
"No.. I wouldn't.. I'd never.." Jaime protested weakly, not wanting to believe the younger boy.
"Except you do. And that's the real reason- well the main reason I came back to the past, to stop you from betraying the human race and bringing on The Reach apocalypse." He informed us. I knew that there was something more to him than just the 'tourist from the future' that he claimed to be. It didn't take a genius to realise that he had saved his grandad, The Flash, the day that he arrived, but there had to be more to it than that, a bigger picture of some sort.
"Jaime isn't like that. He wouldn't betray us." I muttered, shaking my head, causing him to look up at me almost as though he were in shock to see me, despite the fact that I had been helping him walk for the past few minutes.
"(Y/N)-" He whispered, a hint of sadness in his voice, but I cut him off.
"Save your energy ese.. You might need it soon." I let out a deep sigh. "What.. What exactly becomes of me in the future?" I was almost too afraid to ask as I felt like I knew what the answer would be.
"Well let's just say that Jaime lost whatever motivation he had to regain control over his body the moment that Blue Beetle stabbed you through the chest." I thought as much. That must be why he had been keeping me away from my best friend, for my own safety.
"I would never dare hurt (Y/N)." Jaime hissed, angry over the very thought of it. "I'm keeping her safe from now on no matter what."

I gasped as we made our way to the door only to find Megan trapped halfway through it. Jaime's Blue Beetle armour covered him upon instinct, and Impulse handed me something. My mask. I smiled at him and mouthed the words 'thank you' before tying it back over my eyes to hide my identity.
Blue touched the wall and the doors opened, consequently releasing Megan and showing the horrific sight of our teammates, our friends, scattered around the room completely passed out. He repeated the action which opened another door and allowed what I assumed to be someone who had been kidnapped by The Reach to escape.
"Little brother, one way or another I'm putting you back on mode." I looked up to see that it was Black Beetle addressing Blue Beetle and realised that he was probably the cause of all of the destruction around us. He had an abnormally low voice. It made me uncomfortable. It reminded me of Morgan Freeman but alien. That may sound like it would be a cool thing but it really wasn't, it was just highly unsettling. "You are one of The Reach and cannot escape it."
"I have to.." Blue seemed defeated before the fight had even began due to the 'experiments' that The Reach had performed on him and the shocking news that Impulse had just given us.
"Perhaps you need some motivation?" Black Beetle smirked and it didn't take me long to figure out that he had begun to approach me.
"No.. (Y/N).." I heard Blue call out somewhat weakly. I felt my back touch the wall behind me, leaving me with nowhere else to go. I widened my eyes in fear as Black Beetle picked my up by the neck. I tried to will my body to do something, anything, for my powers to take over like they have done in the past. Before I could do anything to protect myself, it was too late and my head was smashed against the wall behind me. The last thing that I heard was Jaime screaming my name before a brief pause and him hissing "Do it".
I'm so sorry that this part is so short and took so long. I didn't have time to type the whole chapter out so I'll have to add the ending onto the start of the next one when I'm allowed my devices back to type it up. I promise that the next chapter will be a lot longer. I'll get it up as soon as I possibly can. Once again, I'm sorry.
