CHAPTER 1 : To Crescent Moon
Laura
Just fit in, dammit!
"Did you meet them?" I voice-called my vampires while I was struggling to put my laptop back inside my bag, the phone pressed between my shoulder and ear.
Fit in you little thing!
I finally made it and put the laptop in the bag and zipped it back. "No. We are still trying to make it to them. You know how serious those guys are and to convince them will take time." Cleo replied.
"Goddess, those big creatures are so difficult!! I mean, we have a point here. Might as well help us get rid of the common enemy." Sarah's voice boomed through the phone, making me pull it away from my ear a little.
Cleo and Sarah knew me even before I was born. They had known my pack since even before dad was born. They had helped in pack business as well as protection of the pack from humans. They had seen me grow up and helped me along while I was away from family to study medicine in another country.
It was because of them that I chose to become a doctor. I had heard them talking to dad and his beta over dinner once. It was the same month I was going to have my wolf and after hearing what they said, my wolf tried to break free. My canines extended out of nowhere. The full moon was also in the next two days and to show signs of your wolf was normal before you shifted. But after listening to what they said, I wanted to do something.
That was the day I had made up my mind. I made it my own motto, to help my kind.
I chuckled at Sarah and heard Cleo trying to calm her down, "We need them with us baby, not against us." I just knew Sarah would roll her eyes at him.
"Yeah, whatever." Her voice faded a little.
"She's pissed that she cannot see you soon." Cleo said with a big chuckle.
"Damn right, I miss her!!" Sarah shouted from the other side.
Sarah was a whole mood to be honest.
"I'll be back soon. It's Crescent Moon and Midnight Pack for now. I'll be back within two months. And we are going to that place you wanted to go. Remember?" I asked her with a constant smile on my face.
"What place?" Cleo quickly asked, as I heard shuffling.
"Yup! We are so going there. Now you've made me more desperate." Sarah said her voice sounded clear this time. "It has nothing to do with you asshole!" She beamed probably at Cleo who didn't know we were going to go bikini shopping for a week long vacation that we had planned. We were going to go to my pack's private island to have some fun. Cleo's birthday was near and she was planning to surprise him in the nastiest way possible.
My pack, Crystal Pearl, had the ocean on it's west side. We had beautiful white sand beaches along with small hot springs on the islands as well as on the land. My brother Logan had taken over as the Alpha three years back and his twin Linus was the beta. I was an Alpha wolf myself but I hadn't had anything planned about my future while I was still fifteen.
Dad always motivated us to be better. He taught us, trained us and did what not to help us be who we were today.
I laughed at the couple over the phone and slumped back on the seat, looking outside the window and said, "Goddess, I miss you already!"
"Me too, babe! Once this hunter shit is over, ISTG. I'm going on a year-long vacation." She said, pressing on the word year, making me chuckle.
"It will be over. I have three packs who are willing to help. Plus Ravi has gathered enough. You guys have worked on covens and with the others. I'll send a word myself to the Dragon lord himself. Enough of dealing with his little birds." I told them, looking back at my pack member who was driving me to my destination. He was focused on the road but he looked tired. We were in the car on our way to Crescent Moon Pack. We had left around three in the morning and were supposed to arrive late at night.
"I guess that would be better. From what I have heard over the years he wouldn't hesitate to help us. His kind has been kidnapped too. And he has put some hunters to rest before." Cleo reminded me.
I passed my bottle of water to Rick. He smiled and mouthed a thankyou and took a sip from the bottle. I sat back, chuckling and replied to Cleo, "Okay then. I'll contact the council so that I can send word directly to him."
"Good luck with that. I'll work on the others." He said.
"Bye babe!" I heard Sarah.
"Bye. I love you guys!" I said and hung up. I exhaled a big breath and looked out again.
"How long until we reach?" I asked Rick, yawning. My wolf was resting peacefully in the back of my mind.
"Nine to ten hours more." He said, cracking his neck.
"We'll wait somewhere, if you want to rest." I told him and he nodded.
"Yeah. we'll come across one ot two small inns on the way. We'll stop by." He told me. "You can sleep if you want to. I'll wake you up when we stop."
I chuckled, yawning again and nodded at him. I leaned back and rested my head back on my seat.
Rick woke me up when we reached an inn. It was managed by the Crescent Moon pack. We quickly did our business and ate until our stomachs were full.
"Is there another short route to the pack?" I asked the person at the inn, tired of being in the cars.
"No. This is the shortest one." He said with a small smile. After we were done we carried on our way. It had grown dark now and moving through the mountains felt peaceful. There was nothing here besides the sounds of our car that disturbed the heaven this place looked like. The small flies danced in the beam of the car lights.
I missed being home. I face-timed mom and dad in the meanwhile, taking out my phone and connecting them.
"Angel!" Dad said with a smile. Linus came from one side, waving with a big smile and Logan joined on the other side.
"You guys. I miss you." I said with a smile.
"We miss you too. Where'd you reach?" Logan asked and mom joined them along with Koralina. I waved at them and they waved back. Koralina was Linus's mate. They set the phone on a stand and stood behind, poking their heads to fit in the screen.
"We'll be there by two." I told them.
"Did you guys eat anything?" Mom asked and Koralina nodded, wanting to ask the same question.
"Yup, sometime ago. What you guys doing?" I asked.
"We were just about to have dinner." Dad replied.
"It's your favourite dish today!!" Logan said, showing me his tongue.
"Mom!" I whined.
"Logan." Mom warned him and Koralina pulled his ear. "Don't you trouble her." She said, still holding his ear.
I laughed at them. "You are going to call me or link me every day. And if anything or anyone bothers you, you will inform me first thing. Do you understand?" Dad said, narrowing his eyes.
"Yes dad." I said giving him a thumbs up.
"You better." Linus chimed in. Although Linus was younger than Logan by two minutes, he felt like the elder one. Logan was Alpha when he had to be but when it came to mischief, Goddess, he was number one in that.
"Why aren't the vamps allowed? I mean, we could ensure everything was okay in that pack." Koralina sounded worried, looking between Linus and mom.
The Alpha of Crescent Moon pack was feared. Word spread about him being cursed and that he killed anyone who crossed his way. They said he skinned alive the innocent even without listening to them. He was ruthless, merciless when it came to his pack.
That was the only reason my family was worried about sending me there but I didn't feel like these things that they said about him were true. They could be or they couldn't be. Who knew?
My wolf would have felt alarmed by even the thought of something like this because she and I both disguised such people. We were trying to kill the ones who were ending our kind. But my wolf was just so peaceful today. It was unusual, she had never been so calm and contained everytime we entered another territory.
If there was something wrong with this pack, she would have been on the edge. Maybe it was calm before the storm kind of situation with her. I did not feel like disturbing her peace so I let it slide.
"Chill guys. I'm fine." I told them, genuinely. Linus placed a hand over Koralina's shoulder. "Now go have food. I just wanted to see you guys." I said with a smile.
They waved a bye and got up. Logan moved the phone in his hand and gave me an annoying look. "Don't get into trouble, Trouble." He always called me trouble while Linus called me Lau.
I scoffed.
"Same to you, douche." I said and Rick bit back a laugh.
"I heard you, Rick!" Logan shouted, causing Rick to grow tense. Although Logan was a mischievous person, his alpha was just like another. Strong and dominating.
"Okay bye now. I'll link you when I reach." I told him and he gave me an annoying look again saying a bye and hanging up.
The car moved through the night, taking turns every now and then. I sat doing my work and Rick played some songs for us to stay awake. I quickly typed a letter to the council saying I needed permission to get in contact with the Dragon King, Kai, regarding the matter we were handling which was to end the hunters and their filthy little shifters lab.
I had to go to every pack, as told to me by the council, to familiarize them with the newly found techniques in medicines.
The packs had a good understanding about it though. This initiative was mainly carried out so that I could observe and search for better candidates that could help me on the outside of the filthy little research lab on shifters.
The vampires, Cleo and Sarah helped me in this. They were mates and were friends with the southern packs as well as my pack, to help them if humans happened to encounter any werewolves.
Ravi was another werewolf who was a beta born. We met in college and he had similar opinions as mine. We did college together and he helped us on the outside as the vamps and I began to work as trainees in those human labs.
It was difficult to inform human officials about the lab. That would only gather more attention to the shifters. It was in our best interest to eliminate and find out if there were other labs around the world.
As trainees, we couldn't find much information. They had a really tight security and what we believed was controlled by hunters. The ones trying to eliminate our existence.
What did we ever do to them?
Somehow the hunters had gotten stronger. The vampires weren't able to brainwash them easily. They probably had gotten strong with something that they made from experimenting on us supernaturals.
We knew we had to move fast and we had just begun. Hunters were brutal and kidnapped young pups. That's what stuck me the most. So we started to move faster as there weren't many people on this task.
I had already visited the Silver Summit which held the council. It had to be the first place I had to expound. Then I went to the western packs which included my pack, Crystal Pearl and Mystic Shadow pack. I had found a potential mate in the Mystic Shadow pack which got my wolf and me all bothered and in a frenzy.
Both of us were waiting for our fate mate. We did not want to get blown away with the presence of a potential. He was a beta there, a good man.
I talked to mom and dad about how I was affected by him though I did not want to be. They sat with me and explained to me what it was to them when they found each other.
They told me, "A potential mate will always give you second thoughts. It will remind you all day how somewhere in the world there was someone just as perfect as you are, fated for you. When you meet your fated mate, you won't even have thoughts. You won't even be able to think twice before running into his arms."
My brothers took me out for a day and put sense into my head. They even managed to threaten the poor beta using their Alpha's. He didn't even approach me after that.
"We're here." Rick informed me. I looked up from my laptop and gave him a quick nod. It was almost past one at night. One of the pack members approached us and Rick opened the windows.
He gave a curt nod and smiled, "I'm Noah. I'll escort you through the pack." My wolf stood up and looked for any possible danger but there wasn't any. I smiled back at the guy saying, "Thank you."
He walked ahead and got on a bike. My wolf was fully awake, looking around in search of something. I tried to understand her as the car started.
"Keep the windows down, Rick." I told him, stopping him from doing so.
I put the laptop back in my bag, quite easily this time. I looked out of the window and brought my Alpha forward. There was something here, rather a scent here.
No, fuck.
The scent was everywhere. This wolf had fixed its scent here. It wasn't strong though. It felt as if it had faded a long time ago. Like it was there but wasn't there at the same time. I pushed my wolf back before she jumped out to figure out what it was.
"Are you okay?" Rick asked me and I nodded at him.
"I sense nothing." He said and I narrowed my eyes at him, raising an eyebrow. "Alpha Logan might have asked me to keep watch until I am here." He said and breathed out.
That douche.
I smiled and shook my head at him. The scent grew more as we travelled further into the pack. The summertime warmth of the scent invaded my senses along with the fresh hue of earth. It was ethereal and way too intoxicating. I closed my eyes and breathed in a large amount, feeling my stomach clench.
I waited until we entered main pack land. For a long forty-five minutes I controlled my wolf who was growing desperate to go look for the scent. She was strolling and clawing her paws, stomping them, to be let out.
The intensity of the scent was the same as we neared the pack house. It just was so low yet it was wrapping me in like a cocoon, making it difficult for me to think straight.
My wolf on the other hand had already claimed her decision, ignoring my concern. She had already accepted this person as her mate. She was unsure but she still stood her ground.
We reached a clearing where the pack house was located. A beautiful looking woman stood there waiting for us. The scent grew maybe a percent more but goddess it was making me want to do something that would help me have this scent on me.
I pushed my wolf back and took control from her. I wanted to make sure it was who I was thinking it was. We got out of the car and greeted the woman with a smile.
"Hi. I'm Villa and I'll be looking after your stay." She said with a smile, her eyes soft with the way she spoke.
"I'm Laura. Nice to meet you. This is Rick." I introduced ourselves.
"You must be tired from driving the whole day. You can have dinner first and then quickly get to rest." She said, her tone firm yet soft this time. I nodded and gestured to Rick. We picked up our bags and walked to the cabin beside the pack house.
Villa opened the door and gestured us inside. The place smelled like it was freshly cleaned. She showed us our rooms being very gentle with her words. "Do you want to have dinner first or want some time to freshen up?" She asked.
I looked at Rick and smiled. His expressions gave it away. We definitely wanted to have dinner first. "Dinner." I told her.
She gave me the biggest smile she could, nodded and asked us to follow her. We followed her to the pack house and that scent hit me with ten times more force than before. It was the strongest in the pack house. I didn't want to tell anyone anything yet.
If this person was from this pack, then by now he should have been able to scent me too. I decided to wait until I very well confirmed my own assumptions.
My wolf was clawing at me, wanting to be let out and go in search of the wolf she was destined to be with.
Her mate. Our mate.
The scent was confusing me, grounding my thoughts to think if he was a potential mate or a fated mate. Goddess, I needed help. I stopped myself from letting my thoughts take over me. We entered the kitchen and had our fill. Villa was a good person. Her hospitality was incredible.
"Has the pack been informed about the sessions?" I asked her.
"Yes. We received a letter from the council a month ago." She told me.
"What time do we start tomorrow?" I asked her.
"You've arrived late already. We were supposed to start at ten but we can make arrangements for you to rest for a while more." She said, which made me want to hug her.
"You're so sweet, Villa. Thankyou so much for being so thoughtful. But we'll start at the same time. I can rest after." I assured her.
"Okay. Rick can rest as long as he wants but he won't be allowed to leave the cabin." she informed. I nodded.
The scent was messing with me. It had been almost an hour since we had arrived but the owner of that scent did not make an appearance, meaning he wasn't in the pack. There wasn't a single corner where the scent missed a trace. The pack house was saturated with the scent which meant he frequently visited there which also meant he was one of the ranked wolves in the pack.
We came back to the cabin and Villa left us. "You okay?" Rick asked me.
I nodded, "Yeah. Make sure you sleep well." I told him, but he kept staring at me. "Seriously. I am fine! Go sleep now." I used my Alpha on him.
I knew he would complain to Logan about it. So I decided to speak to him myself. I got to my room and quickly changed into shorts and a loose shirt. I got to bed and linked Logan, letting out a big yawn, "Hey douche."
"You reached?" He asked.
"Yup. Gonna sleep." I told him.
He didn't reply for a while, "Fine. Love you!"
"Love you too." I closed my eyes, inhaling a big amount of the blissful scent that surrounded me.
Mate. I whispered as sleep took over me.
