~Chapter 9~
You drifted numbly between consciousness and sleep. The space was quiet and dark. Endless, velvety blackness wrapped you in a cold embrace as you tried to collect yourself. The memory had shaken you badly and you felt hallow. This had always been your worst fear. It always scared you that one day, your past would turn you into someone else. Someone that had given up.
But you didn't want that, you wanted to continue living. Frisk needed you. Your brother and sister were waiting for you back home. Quiet tears decorated your cheeks. You looked around the darkness and tried to summon your soul to light the darkness, but lacked the strength to. You sighed and pulled your knees into your chest.
"Why God? Why did I end up like this? Why did you plan my life like this?" You muttered into your folded arms.
Scientist should not trust so much in an unproven 'God.'
You whipped around and looked for the newcomer. "Who is that?" You asked.
Inches from your face, a white skull appeared. From the skull, features started to form and soon a familiar person formed. His eyes drooped and cracks stretched from both eyes, both cracks opposing its twin in direction. His grin was hallow and stretched between the middles of both of his eyes. You could tell his grin was genuine however due to the many days you had worked with him before.
"Doctor Gaster?" You asked, wanting to make sure.
Hello (Y/N). It's nice to meet you.
Your brows furrowed and then your heart fell into your feet. "Oh, you're this AU's Gaster, aren't you?"
He nodded. Sorry to disappoint.
You shook your head. "It didn't disappoint, I just didn't expect to see you since you were fused with your children."
He laughed. I thought as much. I wanted to examine you actually. Not only have you proven my theory of different timelines but you're from another universe that mimics our own.
"Actually Gaster, based on the data I've collected, I think my universe is the base to this one. All character except for you, G!Paps and G!Sans are the same as they are back home."
He stroked his chin. Interesting.
He took a few moments to think and then spoke again. (Y/N), Sans wants to know what happened.
You had to think a moment before realizing what he meant. "You mean why I was collapsed in the forest?"
Gaster nodded. You rolled your eyes.
"Why can't he wait till I wake up? I hate pass messages through people."
Gaster chuckled. I'll tell him that.
You rolled your eyes. "You're so weird Doctor Gaster."
Just Gaster. No need for formalities.
"Sorry. You're so weird Gaster."
I find that 'weird' people are often the most interesting.
You nodded. "Yeah. All us weird fuckers are definitely something." You cooed.
You were lost in your thought when Gaster snapped you back to attention. "I'm sorry Gaster, what did you say?"
He chuckled. I was saying that Sans is on his way.
"I'm waking up?"
No, Sans is coming here.
You gave him the most confused look you'd ever made. "Where are we exactly?"
In my mindscape.
If you had a drink, you would have done a spit take. "What?!"
Before he could explain more, Sans fizzled into existence next to you. You squeaked and fell back but G!Sans caught you easily. He pulled you into a tight hug and buried his face into your neck. You froze up, surprised by the motion. You glanced at Gaster and he merely laughed quietly.
"Um, G!Sans? What're you-"
"What were you thinking?!" He snapped, pushing back slightly to look you in the eye. "When lesser dog found you passed out and bloody then came and got me, I had a heart attack. Papyrus and the kid already thought you'd attempted suicide by jumping out the window. Do you even know how scared we were?"
"G!Sans I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to kill myself, not even close to that. I snapped and I left so none of you felt the repercussions of being around me." You explained.
"Then why was you wrist all cut up? It really worries me how I've found near death most of the times I see you."
"That wasn't me! When Chara saw me snap they took the opportunity to try and sway me. When I proved to be too in control she tried to kill me and transfer to Frisk. But she hinted it too quick and couldn't get deep enough to kill me."
G!Sans fell silent. Gaster looked at his son with curiosity.
Son, why is it you worry so much for this human?
"I-I don't know! I just do okay. I feel like I need to make up for my bad first impression."
You blushed lightly but still didn't make eye contact with either one. "I'm sorry I worried you." You muttered quietly, stepping back a little so G!Sans arms fell away. "It's just a few memories brought up the past. I've never really been one to live in the past for... Reasons... That's why I snapped."
"What memories exactly...." G!Sans asked.
They flashed in front of your eyes, silencing you voice. The voice boomed around you like speakers and your head snapped up. The black space around you morphed into your memory and you panicked. You tried swiping at it but the image moved like fog against you attack. Gaster and G!Sans watched your memory as you slipped down on to your knees and knotted your fingers into your hair, pulling violently. That was how you punished yourself when you brought innocent people into your past.
The memory ended quickly, to your mercy, and you stayed on the ground.
"I'm so sorry..." You muttered. "I didn't want to bring anyone into this. I didn't want you carry any obligation to me because of my past. I didn't-"
"(Y/N) shut up."
Your lips snapped shut and you looked tearfully at G!Sans. He knelt down next to you and wrapped his arms around you. He felt warm and safe.
"Sans..." It was barely a whisper, but it was there. He seemed you soften even more when you said it.
"You should have told me." He said softly. "If I'd known I would have been careful. I would have tried to help you."
You laughed. "You can't help me. I'm already broken. The only good I'm worth now is for finishing my experiment."
G!Sans growled. "Don't say that! People care about you (Y/N)! Frisk, Undyne, Alphys, Papyrus, Gaster... ME! And your friends back in your universe. You're not just some tool to get work done. You're a person (Y/N). A beautiful, intelligent, talented person that is stronger than any human or monster I'll ever know."
You couldn't find words to speak. When you open your mouth, only unfamiliar and shaky breathes escaped. The hitched and a burning feeling spread through your throat. An unfamiliar gasping like cry escaped your mouth and you started to cry. Except for the first time in years, your tears were no longer mute. You recognized childish sobs as you clung to G!Sans like he might disappear.
Gaster had disappeared from your coming leaving only you G!Sans. He cooed sweet nothings into your ear as you cried. Between sobs you spoke your fears in a garbled, impossible to understand tone. It took awhile but the cries turned into hiccups and sniffles, your face still buried against G!Sans.
He sighed and lifted you bridal style. You didn't protest as he seemed to carry you somewhere.
"Come on (Y/N), it's about time you woke up."
You nodded mutely. A door appeared in the black velvet and opened for you. As G!Sans stepped through, you felt your eyes flutter open to survey a white ceiling. There was lightly snoring next to you and you looked over slowly. On the side of the bed, G!Sans rested his head quietly, snores escaping from his sleep. You grinned happily and pecked the top of his skull, a light blush on your cheeks.
He stirred and soon rose. His one yellow eyes looked around dully before settling on you again. His grin widened.
"Morning (Y/N)." He cooed softly.
"Morning Bones." You retorted with a smirk. "No witty nickname?"
He shrugged. "Not really in the mood."
You grinned and looked around the room. It was barren and white, the steady beep of a heart monitor making a steady beat in the air. "Hospital huh? How'd you pull that without Mettaton or Asgore getting on your ass about it?"
"I brought you here in my jacket so you you had any monster qualities they'd be hidden in shadows. Then Alphys offered to be your doctor so the nurses wouldn't find out."
You nodded. "We'll have to get me a disguise you know. Or at least one for Frisk and I can wear a hood all the time."
"We'll figure that out some other time when you're not hooked up."
You rolled your eyes. "I like being prepared though."
"Well I guess you'll be a little out of your comfort zone for awhile."
You laughed and put your head back. "I was only out a little bit right?" You asked.
"Yeah, but long enough to worry everyone."
You sat comfortably in the bed and looked at your injured hands. They were wrapped tightly in white bandages, throbbing. On your left arm, stitches closed gashes on your wrist. You probed your face lightly, feeling phantom trails of tears and tender bruises.
"Wow, I probably look like a mess don't I?" You snickered.
"You look better than you did when I found you."
"Well duh, I was all bloody and dying and stuff."
He chuckled. "Yeah, I guess that makes sense."
As if on cue, the door creaked open revealing a new comer. G!Sans turned and grinned. "Hey kid, you're timing is amazing."
A shrill squeal filled the air as a projectile child flew on to the bed.
"Frisk careful! You'll rip her stitches."
G!Paps entered after Frisk. You giggled and wrapped your less injured arm around the child. "Hey Frisk! Sorry I worried you little one." You cooed, pulling him under you chin.
"We were so scared!" He cried.
"I know Frisk, I know. I blew a fuse and some stuff happened. I didn't mean scare anyone, I promise. Don't worry, I'll be outta here in no time. Then I can get back to work and we'll work out everything."
Frisk pouted. "Do you only think about getting out of here?" He asked.
You smile fell and you shook your head violently. "No! Believe me, I love all of you guys, but it'll take some work to figure out how I can go between AU's without causing damage. That and I'd like to catch this timeline up so the monsters will be free."
Frisk's eyes widened. "You're gonna set the monsters free!"
"Yeah, you're gonna set the monsters free?" G!Sans asked.
You nodded and set your gaze in determination. "Yeah! Once I'm healed, I'm gonna pursue the timeline and set the monsters free. I'll even fight Asgore, or Omega Flowey if I have to! I'm not letting you guys get stuck down here. Everyone needs a savior. It's about time the Underground got theirs."
G!Paps laughed. "Just woken and you're already plotting an entire civilizations liberation. Do you ever slow down?"
"Why would I?" You shot back with a smirk.
Frisk beamed and hugged you. "And I'm gonna help."
You snickered. "Okay Frisk, but just know the instance that there is danger you are to listen to my every direction."
"But (Y/N)-"
"No buts! As your older sister, I am putting you before me. Deal with it sucker!"
"You suck (Y/N)!"
"I know I do."
G!Sans nudged you and wiggled his brows. You started laughing and smacked him upside the head. "Keep it in your pants Bone Boy."
He shrugged. "You said it, not me."
"Sans! Not while the child is present!" G!Paps nagged.
You affectionately at G!Sans. Something in your heart fluttered but you ignored it. He officially knew you better than anyone, even Undyne. His met your gaze and smirked.
"See something you like?"
You rolled your eyes. "Keep dreaming lemon cheeks."
"Lemon cheeks?" His hand flew to his face as it flushed a yellow color.
He growled averted his gaze. "Ha ha.... Very funny dove."
You giggled. "Ya know, I don't really think I mind that one. Dove I mean."
He smirked and a pink blush painted your cheeks. "Okay, I guess I'll have to keep that one around."
