~Chapter 5~
At some point you dozed off because when you woke up, your were in a bed.
In addition to that, Frisk was curled up next to you. You looks around the room curiously and your brows knit instantly. There was a bookshelf on the opposite wall of the room. Most of it was complex manuals and notebook filled with theories and data, but on the top shelf were several long neglected children's book and action figures. In the farthest corner was a desk with a computer. A neat cup of pencils sat next to it along with a pile of notebooks. The room was spotless and neat. Paps.
You stood up and stretched. You'd slept more in the past 48 hours than you had in the entire past week. It disgusted you. Something eerie nagged at the edge of your mind, like there was a reason you kept being pulled towards sleep. It felt terrifying.
(Y/N)... Don't you wanna play with me? I am just a kid after all...
You whipped around only to find Frisk dead asleep. Chills climbed your spine and your (E/C) eyes swept the room. In the farthest possible point of the room, on the computer screen, static flickered. In between flickers, you could see a child. They wore a green and yellow sweater with short light brown hair. They had red eyes and unnaturally rosy keeps.
Hello (Y/N).
You jumped back with a quiet yelp. Your eyes narrowed as you looked at the child. You have an idea of who it was based on what Frisk had told you back home.
"Are you, by any chance, Chara?" You asked.
The child grinned evilly. Smart Girl. Strong too. And a good actor. We both know the truth about your life on the surface. I've seen your memories.
Your face fell. "H-How?"
Chara laughed rashly, flickering from the screen to a spot on the opposite wall.
I like you better than Frisk. I think I want you instead.
Your heart sank. "What the hell do you want Chara? We both know how your story ends. Even if Frisk resets, in the end he'll stop and live life with his friends on the surface. Can you just not try?"
Okay, I won't try to use Frisk as a vessel.
His response put you even more on edges. Your brows furrowed and your eyes narrowed. "Seriously? No fight or nothing?"
Chara laughed. You're stupid. You heard me didn't you? I want you. Not Frisk.
You laughed as harshly as you could. "You can't control me. Not only are we incompatible because I don't belong to this AU but I also would never let you in. I know how to block people out."
You're mistaken (Y/N) because you see, I'm already in.
Suddenly warmth filled your veins and you opened your eyes. You sat on the couch, Frisk sitting in your lap like he had been before and G!Sans at the other end. Your heart was pounding and a cold sweat layered over your skin. You moved the sleeping Frisk onto a couch cushion gently and darted upstairs. You could feel G!Sans eyes follow you as you made a beeline for the bathroom.
You tried not to slam the door behind you. The first thing you did was look in the mirror. To your horror you saw your reflection flickering. Sometimes it was you, looking panicked and defeated. The next moment it was you, but horrifyingly different. Your eyes were red. Blood soaked your clothing and a knife sat loosely in your grip. Insanity made your smile menacing and anything but friendly.
When the image stopped flickering, it scared you almost as much. One of your eyes was a bloody color of ruby, contrasting greatly from your usual tame (E/C).
Your first thoughts went out to Frisk downstairs. He wouldn't be inhabited by Chara meaning he would never face a genocide run. That was good at least. But you had never been through this before in any universe, at least as far as you knew. Wanting to hide the development from the innocent child, you combed your bangs in a thick sweep over your newly colored eye. (If you have short hair, just imagine you have long hair.)
Your hands still shook violently and you took a deep breath, trying to calm your nerves.
I know what you suffered, wouldn't you want to get back at them? At everyone that hurt you?
"Chara, say another fucking word and I'll rip off my own head." You snarled quietly.
A tap at the door made you fall over. It creaked open and G!Sans stood towering over you.
"Heh, I knew you found me attractive but who knew you'd fallen for me." He teased.
You made sure you eye was covered and grimaced. "Puns don't look good on you." You said.
"Sweetie, everything looks good on me." He offered you a hand while smirking.
You rolled your eyes and room his hand. He pulled you up easily. His white pinpricks moved smoothly to your bangs and he raised a 'brow.'
"What's with the new bangs?" He asked.
Your face reddened slightly as you tried to think of a lie. "I, uh, woke up with an allergic reaction to something. My eye was all red and looked real nasty so I covered it up. I didn't wanna scare Frisk, make him think I was sick and all."
G!Sans eyes you suspiciously but accepted the excuse. "I like your hair like that. It's edgier." He admitted.
A blush dusted your cheeks but you turned your head so he couldn't see it.
"Sure, whatever. It's not like I did it for you."
He smirked, leaning against the wall. "I never said you did Cherry Cheeks."
You blushed deeper and completely turned away. You jogged downstairs, ignoring G!Sans chuckles. On a digital clock it displayed the time, 14:37.
"Why's the clock on 24-hour time?"
You asked.
"Gaster prefers it that way. Admittedly it makes more sense anyway. And if your to dru- er, outta it... It'll make it easier to tell the time of day."
You peered at him. "If I ever come back here and find you drunk, I'll end you."
"Buzzkill."
You smiled. "First name you've called me without sounding like a low-life flirt."
You turned to the kitchen and began walking. But seconds after you turned, G!Sans reappeared in front of you. You right into him and began falling back. His hand slipped around the small of your back and he leaned closer to you. You furrowed your brow into a frown.
"Maybe there's a reason I'm flirting." He purred.
His other hand raised to your cheek with a shit eating grin on his face. His hand stroked your cheek gently and you fell silent to a mix of annoyance and curiosity. Strands of hair fell away from your face and you immediately remembered you eye. You planted your feet on the ground solidly and stood up straight. Not knowing it would happen, as you took your weight back on yourself, you smacked your head against G!Sans as you stood.
Pain laced your head as pressed a palm to the spot it hit. G!Sans too grabbed where you hit him. "Damn, you've got a hard skull." You griped.
You side-stepped him and headed into the kitchen. By how hard you felt the impact, you were surprised there weren't any new cracks in his skull.
"Whatcha makin?" He asked, completely ignoring what just happened.
"Dinner, something to last me over till Undyne's."
G!Sans laughed. "You can't be serious. She'll kill you on sight and you're not fully healed."
You shrugged. "I know how Undyne is back home and if she's as alike as I hope, she won't back off a challenge."
"And how does that help?" He countered.
You restrained a laugh. "For a scientist, you're stupid."
You instantly regret the words. Not because of how rude they were, but because of who you sounded like. "I mean, well, if I propose the right challenge she won't be able to kill me."
"You're crazy."
"All the best people are crazy." Your retorted.
G!Sans left when you started ignoring him in favor of a sandwich. You decided to make a few more for the others and ate your own quickly. Upon finishing, you walked to the living room and shook Frisk gently.
He sat up groggily and frowned at you. "Why'd you wake me up?" He pouted.
You giggled. "Sorry Grouch. I just wanted to tell you I'll be out a bit. Don't leave this house unless you call me first. There's a sandwich for you, G Paps and G!Sans in the kitchen. I'll be back."
"Where're you going?" He asked.
Not wanting to worry him, you lied... Again. "I'm going to the lab to clear some stuff up with Alphys."
Frisk nodded and wrapped his small arms around your neck. "Okay. See ya when ya get back."
"See ya Frisk."
You left the home without another word and made a beeline for Waterfall. Anxiety creeped into your veins and you opted to go the long route. You spotted the sentry station just beyond the Snowdin/Waterfall border and felt sad. It was dust covered and misused by time. You ran a finger over it, only to come away with a thick layer of grime.
Grimacing. You wiped it on your sweater and continued. It took about 45 minutes to reach Undyne's home but you didn't mind.
You approached shakily and tapped on the door. A few rustles later, the door swung open to reveal G Paps and Undyne. While G Paps grinned pleasantly, Undyne snarled.
Spears lit the ground below you but you used the side of the house to flip over them. (You're a ninja, deal with it.)
"What're you doing here punk? I told you, just because you're buddy is safe doesn't mean you are." She snarled.
G Paps looked unhappily at Undyne. "Oh Undyne don't be so rash. Remember what I told you about her."
Undyne scoffed, scanning me with her eyes. "That's a load of horse shit! I can see it in the way she stands, the way she looks. Even her aura radiates anything but the normal childhood you told me about. I'm surprised Sans didn't catch it!"
Your face flushed but you kept a relaxed expression on your face. Undyne was almost as good at reading people as Sans was. "Sorry to disappoint Undyne." You frowned. "Maybe you're just biased because I'm human. Well there's also the fact we aren't friends. Friends can read each other like books. Then again, I doubt you and I could ever be friends."
G Paps faced fell with Undyne. She formed a spear with a growl and launched it at you. You side-stepped it as your soul appeared in front of you.
"Are you saying I can't handle being your friend?" Undyne snarled.
You shrugged. "Well, I can't see you pulling it off. I mean it's clear your hate overrules your friendship skills."
Undyne roared as she launched a wave of spears at you. Now that you were prepared to fight Undyne and not just acting purely to keep someone from damage, you were able to retain most of your HP. G Paps seemed impressed with you skill dodging the attacks. Undyne growled and launched one final spear at me. It appeared normal until it split into several spears.
"I'm gonna prove you wrong punk! I'm gonna befriend you so hard we won't even be friends. We'll be best friends!"
You jumped but couldn't quite get high enough to dodge the full attack. Spears pierced you leg and scraped your feet. You controlled your cry into a strangled hiss as you landed on your side. G Paps raced to your side, but not before Undyne had lifted you up and jogged you inside.
"I'm gonna patch you up and then we're gonna do everything best friends do!" Undyne whooped with fire in her eye.
Victory was worth the scratches because now you knew how things played out. It's still possible to recover this timeline's order. All you had to do was keep it as close to the story as possible now.
Undyne replaced all of your bandages and applied new one. G Paps watched in silent awe. The look in his eyes was a mixture of impressed and skeptical. He glanced at me once in awhile but he was lost in his thoughts completely. Probably speaking with Gaster.
Once you were bandaged, you sat at the table comfortably. Undyne sat across from you smiling. "C'mon Paps! We're gonna do best friend things!" She invited.
G Paps looked apologetically. "Sorry Undyne, but according to Gaster, I'm needed back home."
You grinned. "If the other two haven't eaten it, I left you a sandwich in the kitchen." You said as he turned to leave.
Before he exited the door, he bowed politely with a grin. You giggled lightly and turned back to Undyne. To your shock, she looked dead serious.
"Okay (Y/N), I ain't as good as Sans but I know what Paps told me about you isn't true. I wanna be your best friend do I need to know your real story."
Your face flushed and you faked a laugh. "What was wrong with it? It's true. I had a mom, a dad, twin siblings and I was always really smart. That's all the important stuff."
Undyne scammed you with her yellow eyes. "That's not the complete truth. Spill."
Undyne's expression showed you both curiosity and worry. Back home Undyne really was you best friend so you knew you wouldn't get away without telling. Sighing, you began telling the true story about your life before the Underground.
