~Chapter 1~
Your eyes fluttered open to see the snow tipped trees reaching upwards all around you. Frost bit your skin aggressively. You were only dressed in a pair of shorts, a plain t-shirt and a lab coat. Hotlands was too hot for any more than that. A growl rolled off your lips as you sat up. "Snowdin? Seriously world... Shorts and snow don't mix..." You pouted.
Standing, you brushed the snow from your clothes and wrapped your lab coat around you as tightly as you could. You headed straight for the river, knowing the river guide could take you almost directly to Alphys's lab. As you approached, the guide turned towards you. "Tra la la... The man that speaks in hands in now a man again...." She/he hummed as you rode.
You raised a brow in curiosity and rolled your eyes. The old look had never really been your fancy. The ominous mumbo-jumbo contrasted violently from your usual logical and scientific ways of thinking. The most you allowed your mind to stray from fact was when watching anime with Alphys. At least that was enjoyable.
As you walked through the short distance from the boat to the lab, you noticed how the monsters looked at you. Normally, their gazes seemed kind and accepting, knowing you worked there and were working with Alphys toward a huge feat in science. However, now their eyes were cold. The monsters seemed either angry, vengeful or scared by your presence.
Deciding to ask Alphys about it, you shrugged it off and entered the lab. As I had become habit, you made a beeline for the underground lab and flashed your keycard. The door buzzed with a green light and opened for you. You pulled out you (F/C) phone and checked your messages to make sure you hadn't missed anything when you teleported. Thankfully, the screen was blank, making you smile.
"Hey Alphys! Is the experiment stable again or do I have to call in the cleanup crew!" You yelled through the lab.
Scampering filled your ears as the familiar form of the melted mass of mutt ran towards you. You put your hand out and pet the animal fondly before turning into the lab. "Hey Alphys, I think I know-"
Your eyes snapped up just in time to see a ray of golden yellow plasma racing towards you. Your hands pulled down on the multi-mutts collar as you swung him out of the way and dodged yourself. The beam grazed your arm, brining your HP down to 18/20.
The mutt whimpered as you snapped angrily towards the direction of the attack. "What the hell Alphys?! You almost hit multi-mutt!" You screamed.
A few feet away, you watched as an infamous GasterBlaster disappeared, revealing Alphys and another monster. Two bones shot toward you, yellow haze encasing them. Your (S/C) soul floated above your chest, absorbing the attack.
HP: 5/20
Multi-mutt jumped in front of you an growled. The attacks stopped as you finally got a good look at the new monster. He was decently taller than you, at least a few inches. You could now see he was a skeleton. Your brows furrowed as you identified the cracks in his skull were the same as the scientist, Gaster. His eye was glowing a dangerous golden hue and Alphys was shaking beside him.
"Did Gaster get another son? I thought Asgore forbid it?" You asked, looking at Alphys.
The small dinosaur squeaked and hid behind the skeleton. You rolled your eyes. "Alphys? What's wrong? Who is this guy?"
The skeleton spoke first. "I don't know who you are but how did you get clearance down here?" He growled.
You unclipped and vanished your keycard. "I've only been working her the past ten months." you hissed. "But why are you here? Last time I checked, I was Alphys's only other coworker."
Alphys looked at you with a confused gaze. "I-I'm sorry but I don't k-know you." She stuttered.
You laughed harshly. "Please tell me this is a joke, right? Or did the soul explosion give you amnesia? And someone tell me who Mr. Tall Dark and Asshole is!"
Frustration built in your chest and confusion fueled your thoughts. Your feet arrived you in a circular pace as your hand subconsciously held your chin and you thought.
Amnesia? No, Alphys would at least have a vague idea of who I was. This had to be something else. Maybe it was the skeleton? He could have used the magic he had to tamper with her mind. But he looks so similar to Gaster. Why would he hurt one of Gaster's friends if they're related. Are they even related?
You stopped your pacing and pointed accusingly at the skeleton. "Based on what I'm seeing, you tampered with Alphys's memory. Amnesia is ruled out, seeing as she doesn't even have a vague memory of me. But that leaves several questions such as: Why? Who are you?"
The skeleton's 'eyes' scanned over you body but you didn't flinch away. This was your lab as much as it was Alphys's. You were going to defend your right to be there. The skeleton burst out laughing.
"Sorry princess, but I'm afraid you're wrong. I didn't do anything to Alphys's brain. That's too much risk of damaging her knowledge."
You gave the skeleton a challenging look. "Then explain."
The skeleton seemed to find your challenge amusing. "She clearly hasn't met you before. That also means that your keycard, your being here is faked. You're not welcome here."
An idea popped into your head and you pulled out your phone. Pulling up your Undernet app, you flipped to your profile and threw the phone at the skeleton. "This is my Undernet. You're gonna find a lot of pictures of me and my friends here, INCLUDING Alphys."
The skeleton's bony fingers didn't work on the touch-screen, making you laugh as his 'brow' furrowed. Alphys took the phone and scrolled through the images. "T-That's me! B-But we've never met..." She mused.
A gasp left her lips as she opened a specific picture. "What?" You asked. "Did you find one of the old marry, fuck, kill photos?"
Alphys handed the phone to the skeleton. Immediately his face fell into a dangerous scowl. A snap struck the air and suddenly the screen was sin your face, the skeleton dangerously close. "How did you get this?" He snarled.
You examined the picture, not finding anything unusual about it. It was just a group photo. Mettaton, Alphys, Undyne, Toriel, Papyrus, Frisk, Asgore, Sans and you stroke funny poses with props to go with. "It's a group photo dipshit." You snapped.
He growled and tapped against the screen aggressively. His finger tapped brutally against the section of Sans. "How did you get a picture of him?" He asked in a low tone.
"Wow, you must be straight outta the void if Gaster didn't tell you about Sans or Papyrus." You sneered.
The skeleton paused and grabbed your arm viciously. "Hey! Let g-"
The familiar fizzing sensation took your body as you reappeared in front of the Skelebros home. Your eyes glanced it only briefly before you spoke. "Okay, so you've met them. So why are you so surprised?"
Growling, the Skelton threw open the door and threw you inside. "Papyrus! We have a situation!" He yelled, stomping up the stairs.
The door directly in front of the stairs opened to reveal a smarter version of Papyrus. "What is it S-"
Papyrus caught your phone midair and looked at the photo. "I don't remember this." He said.
You frowned. "Papyrus? How could you forget? We went out for your birthday."
Papyrus looked at you with a confused gaze. "I'm sorry, who are you?" He asked.
Rage boiled in your veins and you curled your hands into fist. "Do you still have a punching bag in the garage?" You asked.
Papyrus looked confused and you growled. "You know what, never mind. I'm going to Grillby's to cool off. Ironically since Grillby is a flame elemental..." You muttered.
As you tried to leave, the first skeleton stepped in front of you, blocking the path. "Sorry, sweetie... But you're not going anywhere."
You raised a brow. "Oh really?"
Your legs carried you with little effort. You'd been in this situation with Sans before, except that was just playful. You faked a left, turning swiftly then and darting upstairs and sliding into Sans room. Just as he appeared you threw open a sliding door and jumped off of the second-floor balcony. You knew about the particularly large snowbank against the house and you landed swiftly.
Regaining your balance quickly, you darted out of view and into the forest. If you went to Grillby's, there was no doubt you'd end up running into the Gaster-wannabe again. Instead you barreled into the forest until you met the river. A scream of frustration racked you as you turned and punched a tree. Pain laced your knuckles but your repeated the process until your knuckles bled. A sing-song tone filled your ears and you pulled out your phone.
A text lit up the screen.
Alphys: OMG!!! (Y/N) where r u?! Ur not showing up on any cameras!
You struggled not to growl.
(Y/N): You just saw me! Remember, you didn't remember me and then Gaster Wannabee skeleton almost killed me. You saw my HP! I almost died!
Alphys: No one has seen you in a few hours! What are you talking about?
(Y/N): I'm at my angry spot. Come find me.
Alphys: Kk, sending Sans.
(Y/N): Okay.
A few moments passed.
Alphys: Sans can't find you.
(Y/N): I'm literally standing right next to the big tree I use as a punching bag.
You sent a picture, followed my a panorama of your surroundings.
Alphys: uh, (Y/N)...
(Y/N): What? What's wrong?
Two images popped up and your heart stopped. The images were almost the same except taken from a view just a little off of your own.
As you started to text a response, the phone was yanked from your hands. Your head snapped back into to see the same jackass skeleton from before.
"Who ya texting sweetheart?" He purred in a dangerous.
"My Alphys. Now give it back! Or at least ask if Sans can send another picture."
The skeleton looked over the text and furrowed his brow. "This isn't Alphys."
You snickered. "You're a dumbass. You're telling me you can't decipher simple words? I said 'My Alphys,' the one that I just spoke to is not my friend."
He tossed the phone back to you and you caught it easily. As it hit your flesh, it began to ring. The tune of Megalovania rang out and you answered it immediately.
"Sans!" You said happily. "Good, where are you? There's a dumbass here I don't wanna deal with."
"(Y/N), I can't see you anywhere, even if I try to sense you with magic."
You walked to the tree you punched when you were angry and ran your fingers on the marks. "I'm currently brushing off the marks of my angry tree."
A few shuffling noises later, you heard Sans voice again. "(Y/N), this isn't funny. Where are you?"
An irritated sigh filled the air. "Sans! I'm not lying. I'm right here. And I-"
The phone again disappeared from your grip as the new skeleton stole the call. His voice was a low growl.
"Okay, I'm the only person here than had ever been called Sans and right now, your little friend here is treading on thin ice so I suggest you explain this little 'prank' or whatever it is before I hurt her."
You (E/C) eyes flew open in surprise. "What the hell?! Don't go threatening my friends!" You snapped.
Remembering what Sans taught you about taking down assholes, you swept your leg into a strong blow to the back of the skeleton's legs. His knees fell and he dropped your phone. You snatched the phone from the snow and ran. With the phone pressed to your ear, you kept running.
"Sans, what's going on? Do you know him or something?" You panted.
"(Y/N) do you remember what Gaster told you about AU's?"
"Well yeah, it was the most bullshit theory I'd ever heard. That's why I remember."
"Put the pieces together. We're in the same place but can't see each other. You're talking about just talking to Alphys and she didn't even know! Another skeleton claiming to be Sans. (Y/N), you're in an alternate universe."
The color drained from your face. "Sans this isn't funny..."
"I'm sorry kid. I'm not joking this time." Sans said glumly.
You tripped over your own feet and landed face first in a bank of snow. Panic welled in your gut. "Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit..."
