Imp-cident (Fantastic Beasts)

Newt Scamander walked off the big boat, seeing Tina and Queenie standing in the rare, crowded shade. They both held an ice cream. Upon seeing him, the brunette one waved.

"Tina! So nice to see you!" The two ended up in an awkward handshake-embrace.

He attempted to inquire how her sister was doing but the dark shadows under Queenie's eyes mellowed the beauty of her face and suggested not to ask.

They walked over to the Goldsteins' flat, catching up on conversation. When they bought another ice cream, the shop window next to them exploded. The people around ducked, many of them shouted out in surprise and a mother shoved herself between the flying bits of broken glass and her child.

"What was that?"

"It's just some magical creature running amok," Tina put it off. "The MACUSA is on it." Newt's eyes lighted up the second she mentioned a fantastical beast. They had always fascinated him, causing many people to not take him serious.

"Do you know which kind it is yet?" He listed up around twenty possibly responsible beasts in his head, gripped by a childish excitement.

On their way to the Goldsteins' apartment, they passed by another six ice cream shops as well as a car whose four tires exploded all at once. Moreover, they saw at least three open hydrants, sprinkling everything in their adjacence with cold, freshening water.

"The Muggle mayor opened them because of the record-breaking heat, causing massive power outages. The creature probably came out of the sewerage though," Tina explained, avoiding the puddles on the ground.

As soon as Newt arrived in his room, he climbed into his suitcase, entering a whole new area. The suitcase had been enchanted with an Extension Charm so he could keep his many creatures inside it until he returned them to their natural habitat.

He didn't come for the creatures though, this time he climbed down there for his notes, a gigantic folder consisting out of texts about every beast he had encountered so far. Unfortunately, Newt was not very organized, nor were his notes. It took him all night to write down the beasts which could possibly be the cause of chaos in New York.

The Goldstein sisters had been quite concerned about him spending hours in his trunk and afterwards on the streets, trying to figure out the creature. He had just grabbed one of the delicious pastries Queenie had gotten and left with a quick goodbye.

"Well, Newt, we wanted to go out for dinner tonight?" Tina said by the time he got back, his cheeks red with sunburn, thirsty for at least a whole water bottle. "Queenie suggested a sweet little restaurant around the corner. They have great Chili ."

He agreed and the three left soon after, keeping their eyes open for abnormalities on their way. Little did they know it would all come down to their dinner.

They had been assigned a table and were now waiting for their order to arrive. Tina and Newt spent their time in a conversation about the treatment of magical creatures in the US, Queenie glancing through the restaurant, her mind apparently wandering off.

It was when a stocky-build man walked in, that her attention came back to the restaurant. But with the man came chaos.

As soon as the waiter closed the door behind him, it started. The music went wild, playing loud and fast, the glass everywhere spluttered, food was thrown off the dishes, water bottles were emptied above guests and the light turned on and off uncontrollably.

Tina and Newt jumped to their feet at the first sign of magical activity whereas Queenie continued to watch the man who brought the raging madness. He stood at the opposite side of the room, unimpressed by the havoc but instead looking at Newt and the sisters. Some kind of recognition read over his face.

"Do you know what those things are?" Tina yelled to Newt over the crucial noise of the stereo on full power.

"No idea," Newt replied, wiping ice cream out of his eye that had been thrown at him. It was delicious though. Noticing little creatures appear in the corner of the room, he thought he might have talked rashly. "They're Imps! Those creatures are Imps!"

He could see Tina's mind working, but her knowledge about magical creatures was limited, so she asked Newt instead.

"They live in marshy areas. With opening the hydrants, their natural way of life must have been interrupted. - They're really tiny though and these seem to have the ability to fly and make themselves invisible, so I have no idea how to catch them. - But if we have the leader, we'll have them all."

"Well, how do we recognize the leader?" Tina yelled impatiently, stunning as many Imps as she could.

"The leader is taller and has a yellow skin instead of grey," he replied, trying to cast a Stunning Spell strong enough to knock multiple creatures out. The Imps' anger was now focused on them, meaning that a lot of food and water was flying in their direction .

"Okay, have my back and I'll cast a spell to make them visible." Newt winced, he had enough difficulty with the few spells already. Tina closed her eyes anyways, raising her arms and chanting some kind of spell. The text was long but worked very well, giving Newt and Tina the possibility to look at the creatures properly.

It was no problem to find the leader, he was flying above all, giving orders. Tina put him out with a clever body-bind curse, confusing the other Imps. After a minute, even the last of them stood still, following their leader's example. Tina and Newt sighed with relief.

Not long after, a few employees of the MACUSA came, modifying the No-Majs' memories, cleaning up the place and taking the Imps (to Newt's displeasure) with them. In the end, the dinner was quite good after all, though Queenie seemed distracted.

Hi!

This was another prompt-written chapter, I hope you liked into and if you did, tell me by leaving a vote or comment!

This chapter has 999 words, the limit was 1,ooo so yeah, it was a bit difficult. I even had to cut some things for it to be short enough.

For this little story to work, I wrote with Imps as the cause of chaos. I need to say though, I changed a few of their traits. They can not fly nor make themselves invisible. I hope you forgive me for this little use of artistic freedom though. :)

I hope you guys liked my portrayal of the FB characters and maybe you even noticed some hints I hid?

Hope to see you next chapter,

-Tonks
