Vol.III - 18. SoKoMob
Some people survive the chaos and that is how they grow.
And some people thrive in chaos because chaos is all they know.
THERE WERE TIMES, that silence occupied our favorite spacious loft where our favorite deadly clan resided in.
This was not one of those times.
"Ahhh, the SoKomob clan meetings. How do I even begin to explain those? It always starts with a fucking uproar. When the air smells salt from the big tides that turn, threatening to wash away everything in their path."
V grinned oven his extra spicy chicken pizza, taking a large bite, setting the mood by telling the story to Rain like he was telling... well, some kind of spooky story over candle-lit dinner, living his Stephen King moment.
"From the early years, from when there were still ongoing wars and Empires. From the start, the need to display who has the upper hand, who rules the biggest portion of the deadly, and most importantly, who needed to make alliances with the rest to stay on the map, and everyone who was anyone of importance, was there. In those meetings."
"So we are invited." Rain smirked, playing with her pocket knife. "Since we definitely are all of the above."
"Invited?" V snorted. "Nanami hosted those bitches. In Suga's house, nonetheless..."
"Suga is going to make you host your own funeral if you keep blabbing things without his permission," Suga echoed from the kitchen, as he closed the fridge, opening a beer bottle.
"How else am I going to explain to Rain the SoKomob meetings?" V whined.
"Like this. The Sokomob meets are nothing like V tried and failed to explain." J-hope deadpanned.
"It's actually like a Korean version of Jersey shore," Jimin added.
"Plus a few heavily tattooed hotheaded dicks with less I.Q. than a slice of bread. And I mean all together." J-Hope added.
RM cleared his throat. "It's something like a conference if you will. For the mob clans of South Korea."
"Like a Comicon?" Rain snorted. Girl was probably imagining all of them in cosplay costumes. And was one second before calling dibs on Gogo Yubari.
Remember those great war generals? Their armies?
What do you think is their today version?
Who are the countries ruled by?
The politicians?
Mere pawns.
No. The counties for years and years were, and always will be ruled by their mobs. The night. The moneymakers.
Every country's greatest power is not its army. Not their politicians. That's a silent myth. For children. A myth made up to ease the peace of mind of the elderly.
No, the greatest force, the true leader of a country is always, the Mob.
And in our case, the Korean pae turned yakuza because of our former Japanese leader, Nanami.
So, when the gang leaders want a meeting, there is a thing, call it a convention for criminals if you will.
SoKoMob.
They gather from all around South Korea, from Seoul and Icheon to Gwangju and Busan.
The thirteen gang leaders who lead the most influential cities. Have the largest following of thugs. Own the biggest corporations in the far east. In one word, rule.
For many reasons, it may happen but it's always an opportunity to meet and flex their power. To rub their private jets and Rolex watches and army of loyal thugs and newly-bought barely legal trophy wives on each other's faces.
They also discuss their alliances, a custom that started after the second world war when crime syndicates like yakuza united with other mobs and provided money for housing and food to the suffering cities where the government failed.
And that tradition continued, for every tragedy after.
One of those "meetings" took place the day Nanami killed two of her own clan members, seven years ago. It was the day she started the Bloody Waves.
And so it kept going on, whenever the opportunity came, they met.
They flexed and talked and sometimes killed, and those meetings always ended with big parties that everyone who was anything of importance attended.
Even politicians and police chiefs and singers and actors took part in the corruption windmill that went on for days after with drugs and orgies as an afterparty.
"The last time a SoKoMob occurred, was just a little over four months ago," RM noted.
"Just one day before Nanami's death." Rain continued.
"How the hell you know that?" V tilted his head. "I mean, none of us went to those meetings, ever. Nanami always went with her other clan."
"Yeah, how exactly do you know that Rei?" Suga's smile was a challenge. A test. If you want in, you will have to do everything my way, he had warned.
Lie.
Lie. For. Me.
The others don't know what you know. What I allowed you to find out.
That he had told JB to show her the tape. That Suga was in that tape.
Rain could unleash the secret she has been holding over Suga's head.
Yet the ashy taste in her mouth told her she knew what she had to do.
"JB told me." Rain took a large bite of her pizza. "He was there. As a member of the Ryuzaki clan."
No one seemed to doubt it. It made perfect sense. She refrained from adding that JB had a recording of the cameras with all the participants and everything that happened that night. And maybe a tape that shows Suga fake killing Nanami. And that Chin-Hae thinks that one of the Bloody Waves killed Nanami because they weren't there. Except for his son of course.
The pizza had suddenly a bitter taste in her mouth.
Or maybe it was the lie she just blurted. Her Oyabun's order.
Like Suga had lied many times for Nanami.
And she was in his place for once more.
What goes around comes around.
Because she had a purpose. Because she had sworn an oath, and it was her choice. No one pushed her to do it.
Which made her wonder, what was Suga's endgame? What had pushed him to lie and steal and kill for Nanami? What could be so important, that he kept doing it for seven years?
A good guess is he could do all that if he knew he was gonna be the sole inheritor of the Min-Ryuzaki empire.
But Rain also knew that Suga cared about that as much as he cared about the weather in Galapagos. And that brought her theories always to a dead end.
Another thing that she hated. He had all the power. All the information. The bigger picture.
Suga joined them on the living room floor. He stood for a second as he didn't fail to notice that the only empty spot he could sit around the table was the one that always Nanami occupied.
"Never been in Comicon. Does everyone there represent a mob clan and goes there to measure dicks and start clan fights? If so, then yeah, it kinda is like SoKoMob" J-hope muttered, after an uncomfortable minute of silence.
"Nanami slayed in those," V grinned.
"Slew," Jungkook murmured beside him.
Raising an eyebrow, V looked at him weirded out.
"The past tense of slaying is slew." Jungkook corrected, with a little extra amount of unexcused anger.
V found himself wondering what was Jungkook's problem. And also if his mouth could do more than correct him, and restrained himself from slaying him.
Until Jungkook's knee accidentally brushed V's, and the latter was trying to restrain his dick that wanted to be freed from his jeans and curl around the first one's leg like a puppy.
"So let me get this straight." Rain tilted back, stretching her arms above her head. The sleeve of the oversized sweater she wore gathered, falling and exposing her forearm. The three blue lines tattooed there caught RM's attention.
"It's a big meeting," Rain continued, "where clan leaders go to meet with other clan leaders and to show off who is the richest and deadliest?"
Yeap, right up her alley. I bet she still planned to dress as Gogo.
"As I said, Nanami slayed in those," V repeated, grinning for emphasis.
"Literally," Jin added with a weird grin of his own, as he was picking up everyone's drinks to put coasters under.
RM cleared his throat and looked at Suga. Suga threw a glare at him that screamed one word and you're be browsing catalogs for funeral suits.
RM looked away again, fixed his stare outside, ruffling his hair and not uttering a word like a good soldier.
What the fuck does RM have on Suga? And how does it intervene with Rain and her short yet memorable leading days?
Rain instantly became aware that RM knows something. Something she doesn't. Something that Suga doesn't want her to find out.
However, she contained her expressions.
Silence had overtaken, only a few cheezy pizza chewings here and there, and then...
"Okay, is there anyone that believes this sokomob meet is actually because Suga rose to power?" Rain wondered out loud.
Some of the chewings stopped. But no one had the balls to speak.
"Come on! Anyone?" Rain huffed. " RM? Any theories?" She narrowed her eyes. RM on the call of his name, stopped fidgeting with his saiko-kommon ring to look at Suga. He gave him a curt nod.
"They think Suga was Nanami's killer. That he did it so he will inherit everything." He mused, yet didn't spare Rain one glance.
"Like they give a rat's ass for defending Nanami's honor," Jungkook murmured, poking around his fried rice with a chopstick.
V however, had scrunched his eyebrows, actually wondering if there was a chance that Suga could have killed Nanami.
But not because Nanami was going to leave everything to Suga, no.
In V's mind, Suga would have killed Nanami for one reason and only.
To bring Rain here.
He had promised Nanami that if anything happens he would bring her here and protect her.
He was in love with Rain from long ago.
V shook his head, thinking that his theory was too farfetched, even for Suga's lovesick ass. Besides, even unadmittedly, Suga loved Nanami more than his own parents.
Or not?
V's brain was hyperventilating like a 90's desktop with widows vista on a hot summer day.
I think I need a blunt.
Hey, I wasn't actively thinking about Jungkook for like, half an hour. Mental high-five.
You literally organized a scheme the other day, to prevent him from spending time with Violet and ended up having her as roommate.
Shut up, I said actively. Like thinking of his pouty lips around my dick, while I pull his hair, inflicting pain on his scalp and then he moans with that voice... god, his voice. I could sacrifice lambs to his innocent, melodic voice.
And now he was hard while surrounded by his whole clan, while they talked about the most serious thing like in, ever.
"Of course, it doesn't make any sense." Suga bit out every word.
Gee, dude, relax. No one is blaming you for the possibility of killing your Oyabun to inherit her empire and bring her daughter here, whom you were secretly obsessed with since you were still in diapers.
Unless we raise hands, V thought. Then, I'm sorry cause everyone is voting for ya...
"Okay, who else thinks Suga could have killed Nanami to get Rain here—" V raised his hand, grinning.
"I think Snowflake can stay in Jungkook's room." Suga smirked, combining it with a rare Nanami glare.
"Can you all stop calling her that?" Rain rolled her eyes.
"Why, it's catchy and it suits her." RM grinned.
"Shut it, kissass," Jin coughed, only for RM to hear. "You don't want to get between your Oyabun and his girl. Again."
"Yeah, but she doesn't like it," J-hope defended her.
"Why? The temperature of her nickname matches her IQ." Suga grinned.
Rain glared at him in a way that couldn't be distinguished if she was planning to murder him or seduce him.
"I find it sexy," Jimin grinned.
"That's because you find everything sexy. Including lawnmowers." J-hope deadpanned.
"It's actually because he is a sexist," Jin added, organizing a pile of empty pizza boxes. Yes, he was organizing the trash.
"It's because he still hasn't passed training," Rain added, and V high-fived her.
Jimin rolled his eyes as the rest of them—except Suga— were snickering like fiends.
This is a real Seven Seas—sorry, Bloody Waves— clan meeting for you, everyone.
Screw important, life-threatening subjects like meetings with Korea's deadliest gang leaders and drug lords. They're just going to bash each other and talk about chicks and dicks.
At least Nanami brought the latter up only when she threatened to rid them of it.
J-hope rolled his eyes. Placing his palms on the back of his head he exhaled impatiently. "To get back on the fucking point, they don't care about shit, including if Suga killed Nanami or not. The point is that all gang leaders had their eyes set on Nanami's empire. They drew back when Rain rose to power because they thought they could, later on, arrange some business deal marriage with her; Something both parties would benefit from. Share the goods, if you get me. But now, someone else has what they wanted, and everyone is willing to fight for a piece of the pie. In other words, this meeting is called because they want to see if the authority Suga possesses is tangible." Looking down, he smiled.
"So the problem is that no one wants to marry Suga for his assets," V chuckled and Jimin reached out for a high-five.
Suga cut V a glare that said he would castrate Jungkook with one of Jin's knives and make V watch.
V slowly sank further down in his seat, determined to not say another word in this millennia.
"And no one had ever before tried to usurp Nanami's empire?" Rain questioned.
Suddenly — and accidentally— they all broke down into laughter.
"Who the fuck would try to mess with Nanami?" RM replied, still chuckling. "She had us on one side, and Chin-Hae on the other."
"So? Suga does too." Rain tilted her head, not getting it.
"He does, but he hasn't shown it yet," J-hope murmured. "This SoKoMob is the perfect opportunity for Suga and all of us to show that we are an unbreakable, united clan."
Suga sighed exasperatedly. Dude wants to be flexing that he is Oyabun as much as V wants to be Snowflake's roommate.
"We have to show we are smart," Jimin said, swallowing one kimchi whole.
"You think we are smart? Jin raised a mocking eyebrow. "Cause we're not. The proof? We have a big fucking table in the kitchen yet we are eating dinner on the living room floor like we are some fucking earth-worshiping hipsters, about to join our hands and do the ouija board thing."
"Oh, come on. It's cozy." V grinned.
"The right move," RM added, "would be to call them out for what this is. A bluff. Accept their supposed proposal, get our asses to that meeting, show them that we are still the biggest clan..."
"The right move for Suga would be to show he rules both clans!" Rain cut him off. "Sure, we matter alright, but two clans have way more impact in power than one. Even better if Suga could show that he united his two clans somehow. And no offense RM, but Suga's biggest card is definitely Chin-Hae," Crossing her arms, she might have dragged her last sentence that was laced with a lilt of irony.
RM snorted with dismissal. And disbelief. "Where the fuck was Chin-Hae when you needed him, huh? What kind of bullshit has he managed to fill your head with? Have you even once considered why Nanami always kept an eye on him? That her lack of trust in him led her to start literally a new clan?"
"You're missing the fucking point!" Rain got on the front of her seat. "I'm not saying Suga should trust Chin-hae. All I'm saying is that he is his fucking winning card for this meeting. Chin-Hae is still a fucking legendary name on the streets. He is feared and respected. And Suga could show that he has him by his side."
"WE as a clan are more feared and respected. And not only among the fucking streets! And our unison is way more impactful. And Suga doesn't need anyone else to show—"
"Suga will kill you all one by fucking one, just to listen to some fucking peace and quiet for fucking once in this place!" Suga cut them both off.
"But if we—"
"Not another word!" Suga cut Rain off. And everyone then knew how serious he was for real. Everyone except Jin, that when Rain cut a glimpse at him, he was silently snickering like a fiend. Or more like in a told-ya kind of way.
Rain retreated to her room.
Lied down, telling herself she wouldn't give a fuck if the SoKoMob meeting was a massive failure.
And that she didn't give a fuck about Suga either.
Even if she secretly expected that maybe he will come later and apologize and tell her that he has to act like that in front of others and cannot discriminate. And they would make up and fuck and be happy.
She waited, but he never did.

Later, however, in the middle of the night, more towards morning, her door opened.
V's floating head, checked if Rain was sleeping, resulting in waking Rain up.
"What the heck? What happened?"
"Snowflake is PTSDing in her sleep. Screaming bloody murder. Can I sleep here?" He pouted.
"Sure," she murmured and changed side. "You can tell her to come to sleep here if you want to be alone."
"Negative. You see, you fingerbanged her once and now boom! Seven years later, Suga is jealous." He yawned.
"That's ridiculous," Rain protested.
"Yet true," He scooched in the bed, occupying as less space as possible.
They both silently stared at the ceiling, waiting for sleep to claim them back.
"V," Rain murmured, "why did you accept her as a roommate?"
He took a sharp inhale before replying. "It's a mixture of I admire her courage and she's been through shit, and I feared that if I didn't, Suga would put her with Jungkook."
"Would that be so terrible?"
He didn't answer. Not for a long time.
"I can't let go. On Jungkook. I want to, but I can't. I'm stuck in some fucking gay limbo where I wait for him to discover that maybe he could like guys. Maybe, he could like me. He definitely likes girls though. And lately, we fight. A lot. About everything."
"Dude needs to get laiddd,"Rain yawned.
"Yeah, not happening. Just thinking about that I get murderous. And depressed. Because it's my fault he still hasn't."
"I thought you were good with JB."
"I thought that too. But I guess my heart wants toxic ass scenarios and unrequited love to be happy."
"We get plenty of that here," Rain snorted.
"I'm in hell," V whined.
"It's not hell if you like the way it burns, hun," She patted him and closed her eyes.
And with that, slowly, they drifted to sleep, V dreaming about unrequited love and Rain about ways to make Suga listen, that his winning card for SoKoMob, is her.
A/N
Hello, my dudes and dudettes.
I hope you are all still here.
You have all been so, so patient.
And you are gonna be rewarded.
Because the shit that I'm writing is gonna blow your minds.
I hope, at least.
There are going to be a few transition chapters like this one.
Nothing is pointless, we just need to get from point A to point B.
But I need you to bear with me.
It's gonna get better and better from this point.
I hope I could have a month to write without a break so I could finish the story the way I want to.
But life is not like that.
So I will try to write whenever I have some free time.
Thank you all for still being here, and giving me courage.
You are what makes this story real.
