20. Taboo.

Come to find me when you are back.

She texted V.

It was time to start learning the paths, and he was going to help her. RM could also be suitable for this, but his feelings were in the way, complicating every situation, and there was no time to waste fixing his childish behavior. She had put them all to tests to find out their skills and mentality.

V never tried to hit on her, never mingled in her business, was smart yet obedient, accepting and passing every challenge that she put him through, without his knowledge.

Also, he completed his tasks this morning without hesitation, even though she got him fucked up last night.

And most importantly, he didn't say anything to anyone. He didn't cross her to Suga when he asked why he cannot drive. He didn't tell RM anything this morning. He was loyal.

A firm knock was heard on the door before V opening it and enter Rain's room.

His symmetrical handsome face looked tired with dark circles, and a cut on his lower lip indicated that he was in a fight. His black T-shirt was loose, like someone pulled it with force and stretched it out. His tight black jeans were also torn in many places, but it looked like they were like that anyway. A big smile was on his face like everything was peachy.

Rain scanned him from top to bottom, raising an eyebrow.

"What happened?" She looked at the cut.

"Nothing. Why?"

He answered, surprised, indicating that everything was normal.

"You mean about this?" He grinned, and the cut slightly opened. It was still fresh. "Nothing unusual." He chuckled.

She looked out of the window for a moment and licked her lips before turning back to him.

"What exactly do you do, V?"

She starred with wide eyes crossing her arms in front of her.

He raised his head and gave her a small smirk of confidence before answering.

"I collect." He answered without hesitation.

"Usually with Jungkook. We work in pairs most of the time."

"So this is..." She talked with a low voice nodding towards his cut.

"Someone who refused to pay." He grinned.

"Pay for what?" She smiled enigmatically.

V licked his cut and smirked again.

"Look, Rain. I'm not the sugar-coating type of guy. So I'll say everything exactly as it is. We run some nightclubs, bars, casinos, hotels and game rooms, as you know already. Other people hire us as muscle for business... Usually for protection. Some other times for worse things."

He stopped for a second to lick his cut again, then put his knuckle over it and looked at it. A small streak of blood was left on it.

"It depends on the place. The casinos profit from illegal gambling because rich people want to have fun, and the clubs and bars require some drug smuggling, because... also rich people want to have some fun."

He smirked again and continued.

"And because some of them have enemies, they want us to protect them or make their enemies go away. For a high price, of course."

While listening carefully to him, she opened the window to have a cigarette, without leaving the room.

"Go on." She said. "So you and Jungkook collect. What about the others?" She looked at him with interest as she took the first drag.

"I'll go as the process goes."

He smiled excitedly for having the honor to reveal to her their hierarchy.

"RM arranges. When someone has a requirement, they find him. Unless it's a matter of a confidential nature, which only Nanami would handle."

He looked at her to see if she is following up, and she nodded to show she understands.

"Then, J-hope and Jimin deliver. They fulfill the job. After that, Jungkook and I collect the payment."

"That seems completed. What about the other two, then?" She smirked with anticipation.

"Well, you forget what kind of people we are talking about." V grinned.

"Most of them owe money to others and have huge gambling debts, even though they are filthy rich. So they refuse to pay or hide after the job is done. Then Jin finds them and makes sure they pay."

He said, looking at the floor, wondering if this is slightly too much for Rain to handle.

"I thought you said you work in pairs..." She looked at him with a thirst to know more.

"Well, most of the time. We can do a group visit if we want to make people shit their pants." His smile was back since he saw that Rain wasn't intimidated.

"Jin will find someone to go with him if he needs to. We all switch places sometimes, between collecting and serving as well. It depends on the job."

"What about Suga?" She asked without hiding her interest.

"Well, Suga mostly sleeps..." He grinned, showing his perfect teeth.

"Nah, I'm kidding. Suga will do any of the previously mentioned, on occasions."

"How come?" She raised an eyebrow feeling that there was some secret behind this.

"Because Suga used to do... errands, let's say, for Nanami."

V looked back at her, to face her looking at him with disbelief.

She really wanted to know.

"Look, I know that this sounds like a big fat lie, but I honestly don't know what Suga did for her. Now he will go on any job, as I said, but previously he answered only to Nanami and no one else. He always worked alone, and only Nanami knew where he is and what he is doing. She was ordering him to do it after all. Think of it like... covert affairs."

He smiled and shrugged, trying to avoid how awkward he felt, not knowing this vital matter. But he couldn't do anything about it.

He remembered the first rule Nanami taught them.

Don't mess with each other's business.

Meaning, sometimes it's better for something to remain a secret. In this way, they also maintained their privacy and bonded through it when sharing something with another came.

"I don't believe this," Rain scoffed.

Why was it so hard to find out things about this guy?

"You are living together. You don't talk to each other about what you do?" She tried to fish him out.

"Yes, we sometimes do." V smiled. "But never about Suga's business."

A tone of seriosity was coating the last words.

Then he sighed and smiled to himself, feeling that Rain didn't get it because she never met Nanami.

"I'll tell you this. Have you seen the movie Kill Bill?" He smirked like he was about to reveal a dirty secret.

"Nanami Oyabun was... very strict... I know that you don't remember much of your mother..."

Much?  She thought. Try nothing.

"....but for the rest of us, she was like O-ren Ishii. There is a scene where a member of her gang, Tanaka, questions her. When I saw that movie, I remember laughing really hard at how much O-ren reminded me of Nanami Oyabun at that scene."

He smiled, looking up, like missing her.

"What the fuck do you mean?" Rain terrifyingly looked at V. "She beheaded someone with a katana in the middle of a meeting?"

Rain's mouth was open, and her gaze fixed on V.

"No." He laughed. "But she did kill indeed some people that questioned her in a meeting with her family clan. Not with a katana, though." He grinned.

Rain didn't know what to say. She just stood there processing that her mother was ruling two gangs and killed whoever defied her while sending these guys around playing mafia wars. Yet, all these guys speak fondly of her, like she was their own mother. And they knew her a lot better than she did.

"I was planning to take a tour of the building with you. To see all the floors..." She sighed and licked her lips. "But now I kinda want to watch Kill Bill..." She said with excitement.

"I'm in." He grinned. "Let's order pizza." He wiggled his brows. "By the way, Rain..." he continued as she was opening the door to the living room and looked at him, waiting.

"The guy I visited didn't pay me only in cash."

He grinned again, showing his boxy smile, putting his hand on his pocket, taking out of it a small plastic ziplock bag, containing a green with tiny purple and orange microscopic leaves, pebble of weed.

"Is that... a loud dream?" She had her eyes narrowed at first, then opened them widely at her realization.

"You had before?" he said with a surprised smirk.

"Sure, many times, I had a grand lying around to spend on weed." She answered ironically with her eyebrows fully raised.

"I see... I think you will like it." He smirked as they got to the living room. He placed the plastic bag on the table and looked around, thinking.

"I hope they stay in their rooms," V murmured as he ground the rock into a powder.

"Who cares." Rain rolled her eyes apathetically while putting on the movie.

"Yeah, you are right... They won't say anything..." His eyes were focused on his procedure as he rolled it into a perfect long joint.

"Except Suga." He murmured. "He will be mad." Then he lighted it and took the first puff before passing it to Rain.

"He is scary sometimes." He said with a voice a lot deeper because of the smoke.

"Fuck Suga." Rain said while closing her eyes to suck on the joint and inhale it deeply before holding it and releasing the thick curling smoke out.

It tasted sweet, which she usually hates. But after a few seconds, a warm feeling took her over, making her head lighter.

V looked at her while she said those words. It came out in the usual apathetic way she talks about everything, but somehow it felt like she was hiding something.

His pupils dilated from the realization.

"Rain..."

He raised his eyebrow, amused, and stared at the girl looking back at him without a little emotion.

 "You like Suga."

He smirked at her with enthusiasm, like he made the discovery of the century.

On his mind was playing the image of Suga a few days ago scolding Jungkook when he found out he was in love with Rain and saying, "Let's ask her who she really likes."

"I hate Suga."

She replied with narrow eyes, not a slightly apologetic tone in her words, before taking another puff and passing it back to V, who was still looking at her with disbelief.

"Rain..." He grinned more, awaiting an accurate response.

She closed her eyes and cracked her neck, arching it backward.

Then opened them, and with the scariest of all the stares he had seen from her, she said:

"If you ever again talk about this, or even imply it to me or anyone else, I will behead you with a katana in your sleep."

She said as her nails sank into the couch and looked at the man who was genuinely terrified, thinking of how much she reminded him of her mother, who would indeed kill him if he defied her.

Then she softly smiled at him, like they have a secret agreement, and continued watching the movie without talking anymore.
