After a phone call with Rose, Alex was once again disheartened. Somehow every time he gets one step closer to finding Klaus life pushes him five steps back. Rose, however, assured him that she would figure something else out and that she would stay in mystic falls until a new plan is formed.

That she did and she informed Alex of all that had went down and the information that she procured. One being that Elijah is still very much alive and is quite unkillable, thus another set back in the murdering Klaus ordeal. How is one supposed to kill a man who cannot be killed.

Alex also found out that the Salvatore brothers would do anything to protect their precious Elena and are trying to kill Klaus as well. Rose thinks they could be allies, but the past few days Rose has been silent. No phone calls even though she would call at least three times a day. This worried Alex, so much so that he found himself in Mystic Falls in search of his beloved friend. He told Lucas to stay behind. Alex couldn't afford to lose his witch.

Mystic Falls was as beautiful as Rose described it, if anything, more. The town was rich in history as one could tell by the very old buildings that looked good as new. The people of Mystic Falls all walked freely throughout town without fear of being mugged or being killed by the vampires in the shadows, which is ironic considering the amount of vampires that live in this town. Alex admired these people. They had something that he wishes he could possess. They were human. Something that Alex can never be again.

So as not to waste time, Alex made his way to the mystic grill- a place that Rose said many of the Elena's disciples liked to spend their time, especially Damon Salvatore.

When Rose first spoke of Damon, he sparked Alex's interest. After all, Rose had never spoke of someone the way she spoke of Damon. Almost immediately Alex could work out that Rose was keen on him, which is why Damon was the first person on his meeting list. If anyone would know what has become of Rose it would be Damon.

Arriving at the grill Alex was just about to open the door when the man he set out to see opened it first.

"Ah, Damon. Just the man I wanted to see." Even though Alex had never seen the man, he knew it was him. Rose brought up his piercing blue eyes and black hair on many occasions.

"And who are you supposed to be?" Damon responds, his body stiffening, readying for a fight.

"I'm the guy who's gonna help you kill Klaus, so be nice would you?"

"Well in that case, the name's Damon." He says extending his arm out to Alex.

"The names Aleksandar, but my friends call me Alex." He smirks, giving the man a firm handshake. "However, killing Klaus isn't the only reason I've come to this town. My dear friend has been staying with you and your friends from quite some time, but she's recently gone radio silent. You wouldn't happen to know where she is would you? Her name's Rose."

Damon's face pains at the name. "Yeah she's staying at mine. I can take you there, but don't think I trust you just cause you claim you'll help us. I don't know who you are, bud. I'm only taking you to her cause she's mentioned you before." Suddenly pushing Alex against the wall beside him, he seethes, "And if you so much as hurt me or my friends, that includes Rose, I will take that pretty little head of yours clean off your body. You got that?"

Grabbing Damon in a flash, Alex was now the one pushing the other against the wall. "I might inform you that I have got more years behind my belt and am therefore much stronger than you'll ever be. So if anybody is ripping the other's "pretty little head" off their body, it will be me; However, that is not my intention, and I assure you that you and your friends do not have me to worry about. You sure are pretty though." He says, as he slowly takes his hands off Damon's body with a smirk.

"Right back at ya." He winks and rubs at his shoulders where Alex's hands once were. "Well follow me than. You haven't earned my trust, but you've earned my respect. That's enough in my book to lead you to Rose."

Arriving at the boarding house, Alex and Damon get out of the car. Alex was mesmerized by the beauty of the man's home. Over the years of being a vampire, Alex developed an appreciation of old buildings. Living for so many years he was able to see buildings built and see them age. Somehow they were prettier old rather than new. Alex believes that it's his lack of aging that makes him appreciate buildings. Just like humans, they had the ability to grow old.

When Alex was finished admiring the house, he realized that Damon disappeared and the door was wide open. He saw Damon with a girl who Alex assumes was Elena going by the way Damon looked at her.

"You Okay? Where's Rose?" Damon asked her.

"I don't know." Elena replied.

"Well that's just great isn't it." Alex fumed.

Both Elena and Damon turned to him.

"Oh I forgot about you." Damon remarked walking towards the door.

"Damon, who's this?" Elena asked.

"I'm the guy who's gonna get angry if your little boy toy doesn't take me to Rose." Hissed with a finger pushing at Damon's chest.

"Relax, we'll find her." He responds. "Let's just hope she doesn't kill someone before we get to her."

"What do you mean?"

"Oh I forgot to tell you. You see Rose got big by a werewolf and is probably starving. Which is why we have to leave now, before she kills someone."

"And you didn't think to tell me this on the way over here?" Alex belted.

"It didn't come up." Damon shrugged. "Now quiet that mouth of yours and get in the car."

Alex stormed passed Damon and sat in the passenger seat.

"Now was that so hard?" Damon taunted.

"Shut up and drive." Alex said crossing his arms.

"Gladly."

Not long after leaving the boarding house, Damon got a call from the sheriff about a body. Most likely Rose's doing. Upon arriving at the school, Damon left Alex and Elena at the car as he spoke to the sheriff.

"So why are you trying to find Rose?" Elena asked.

"She's my best friend. I was worried about her. I just didn't think it would be this bad." Alex replies shaking his head.

"Hey, it's gonna be okay. Damon's gonna fine a cure." Elena stated, putting a comforting hand on the man's shoulder.

"I appreciate the sentiment" he pauses moving away "but I know what is to become of Rose. She is going to die and there's nothing I could do about it. The best thing to do now is end her misery." Alex stormed off.

"Where's he going?" Damon asks behind Elena.

"I think he just needs to be alone. He's not taking this well. Rose was his best friend."

"Yeah, if I were him I would have been way worse."

In his search for Rose, Alex remembers the phone call he had with her not to long ago. He promised her a dinner and now she'll never get one.

He punches the nearest wall in a fit of rage.

They were supposed to kill Klaus together. She was supposed to have her freedom. She was going to have a normal life, where she could call a place home and fall in love with a man who would take care of her. And they were going to adopt. Now Rose's dreams will never be met. She's never going to have the freedom she deserves.

This angered Alex. She deserves better.

Alex's ears perk up at the sound of screaming. He speeds to the source and finds Rose with her teeth at a woman's neck.

"ROSE STOP!" He yells.

She turns her attention to Alex grabbing hold of him.

Alex pushes her to the floor keeping her at bay. "ROSE!" he shouts. "It's me. It's Alex. Your best friend. It's Alex"

The veins under her eyes vanish. "Alex? What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to keep you safe."

Looking over his shoulder, she sees the girl on the floor. "Did I do this?" Her voice breaks. "I never meant to hurt anyone. I never meant to hurt anyone." She repeats.

"Hey, hey. I know. It's okay."

"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry." She says to Elena.

"Come on. Let's get you home." Damon says making his way to Rose.

"No! I don't have a home! I haven't had a home in so long!" She sobbed.

Alex's eyes became foggy with tears. He'd never seen her fall apart like this. It broke his heart.

"Oh make it stop! Please make it stop!I HATE IT! Make it stop!" She cried.

Picking her up, Alex carries her to the car. "Come on. It's gonna be okay. It's all gonna be okay." He didn't know who he was comforting. Her, or himself, or both. Both.

At the house, Alex, Damon, and Elena waited for Rose to wake. From the looks of it she didn't have long. They wanted to say their goodbyes. Alex didn't know what to say. The only words he could think of were "I'm sorry."
He blamed himself for what's happened. After all, she wouldn't be in Mystic Falls if it weren't for Alex. He was the one who came to her, asking to work together. He promised her that they would find Klaus and kill him, granting her the freedom she's wanted for so long. She wouldn't have gone on this hunt if it weren't for his stupid promises. She deserved better.

Alex didn't know what he'd do without her in his life.

He heard Rose and Damon speaking in Damon's room.

Alex and Elena made their way to the room. Elena walking in first.

"I'm sorry, Elena. I don't like taking human life, I never have." Rose stated. "That's the worst part about death- the hunt, the need to kill, the thirst, the pleasure it brings you afterwards. I wasn't meant to be evil. It hurts."

" Well, then stop talking about it!" Alex calles stepping into the room.

"Alex!" Rose exclaimed excitedly. She made to sit up, but Alex stopped her before she could.

"Don't hurt yourself, Darling."

"What are you doing here? I thought you were still in Louisiana with Lucas."

"Well you didn't answer my calls, what did you expect." He chuckled, pushing a stray hair behind her ear. " I had to make sure you were okay. I should have come earlier." He takes a breath. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry!" He sobbed, grabbing hold of her hand. "Please forgive me!"

"What is there to forgive, my love. You've done nothing."

"You wouldn't be here if it wasn't for me! I set you out on this chase. I promised you that we would kill Klaus. You would have still been on the run if you had never met me."

"Oh my sweet sweet Aleksandar. All you did was try to set me free. Something that no one had ever done for me. My life would have continued to be miserable if I hadn't met you. You have been my light in the darkness. Now, trust me when I say that you have nothing to apologize for. If anything, I should be thanking you." Looking into his eyes in tears, she says, "Thank you, Aleksandar Petrova. Thank you, for being my light."

Behind them, Damon and Elena look at each other. " Did she just say what I think she said?" He whispered. Elena nodded.

"Don't thank me, Rose. Thank you for being there for me every step of the way, for being my rock, for being my best friend. I love you." He states as he kisses her hand. " I love you."

"I love you too." She sobs and they embrace. "Can you give me a moment with these two?" She requests as they move away.

"Yes of course."

Alex listens as Rose says her goodbyes. He hears the kind words her and Elena exchange.

Alex understands why Damon and Stefan were so taken with Elena. She has a kind soul and an innocence that is so hard to find in this cruel world; However, it's stupid of them to keep her so close. One thing he learned a long time ago, is that with vampires comes evil. There's no way to escape it and it's best to keep such an innocence far away, otherwise the evil would follow them as well. If they really loved her, they'd find out soon enough.

Cries could be heard from the room and Alex rushes to Rose's side. "Go! I've got this!" He demands as he holds Rose, comforting her as best he could.

Damon and Elena make their way out of the room.

"I cant's take this anymore! Make it stop! Make it stop!" She cried.

"Shhhh. It's gonna be okay. It's gonna be okay." He said as he stroked her hair. "It's all gonna be okay."

When she finally fell asleep Alex got her in a comfortable position and held her in his arms. He closed his eyes and took her to the place she always spoke so fondly of - her home.

He looked out at the land before him seated on a blanket with Rose's favorite foods beside him.

"You know me so well." Rose called behind him. "My favorite place to come as a girl."

"Yeah well you spoke about it so much I had to see it for myself." He laughed.

Rose sits beside him and chuckles, "What's all this food for?"

"I promised you a dinner, didn't I?" Alex remarks with a smile. She laughs.

After finishing their food and breathing in the fresh air Rose speaks up." The sun is so warm. I miss this. I miss being human. I had friends. I had a family. I mattered." She smiled.

"You still do." Alex insisted.

"No." She paused with a sad smile. "But you do. Don't waste your time on this chase anymore. Live your life. Settle down, meet someone, maybe start a family if that's what you want. But don't lose yourself. Klaus isn't worth it."

"You know I can't do that, Rosie. Especially now. He's the reason you were never able to settle down. You deserved better." He cried.

" Just promise me you won't lose yourself, Alex. Promise me that you will try your best to be happy." She lays her hand on his cheek.

"I promise." He says with tears in his eyes, grabbing hold of her hand and kissing it.

"Good." She says laying her head on Alex's shoulder. "Now, I want to enjoy the fresh air. Will you enjoy it with me?"

"Of course." He smiles, holding her in his arms.

After awhile, Rose breaks the comfortable silence. "Thank you."

"For what?"

"The pain's gone."

"I'm glad." He hugs her tighter.

"Will I see them again? My family?"

"I think you're gonna see whoever you want to see."

"That would be nice." Rose smiles. "Maybe I'll see Trevor too! I'm not afraid anymore." She realizes. Alex just smiles sadly.

He opens his eyes in the real world while still holding her in the dream world and grabs the stake beside him.

"I'll race you to the trees!" She says getting up.

"Well you'll lose." He laughs.

She shakes her head. "I'm older and faster."

"Oh you think?" Alex says getting up. "Well I'm controlling this dream. Maybe I'll cheat." He jokes.

"On the count of three." She smiles.

Alex positions the stake at her heart with trembling hands.

"One..."

"Two..."

He pushes the stake in and she gasps. Her skin turning grey.

Alex sobs and kisses her head. "Goodbye." He whispers.

Later, Damon came into the room.

"Hey." He says sitting down next to Alex and Rose's body.

"Hey."

"I could take care of her body. You should get some sleep."

"I don't want to leave her." He said holding her tighter.

"I know. I know. But she can't stay here forever." Damon pauses and grabs the one of the hands holding Rose's lifeless body. "Let me help. Please."

"Yeah. Yeah, you're right." Alex nodded his head. Damon got up and carried Rose away.

Alex stayed in Damon's room with no tears left to shed. Eventually, Elena came in and sat beside him.

She didn't say anything, all she did was scoot closer and laid her head against his chest and hugged him. Alex realized that Elena reminded him a lot of Rose. That thought is what allowed him to be comforted to sleep.

Okay this chapter was really hard to write. I actually started tearing up for most of it. I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter. You should expect an update pretty soon. Bye!!!
