Chapter Three: The Reunion

The past few days since Rose's death, Alex drank away his sorrows. If he wasn't drinking, he was smoking, and if he wasn't smoking, he was sleeping. It's sad really. All Alex could think about is how all of this was his fault. If only he hadn't gotten her into this mess all would be well.

At the moment Alex stood outside of the boarding house, leaning against the brick wall having a smoke. The past few days Damon has left him alone, giving him time to grieve. Elena and Stefan stayed at Elena's lake house. So the house has been quiet. Alex doesn't know if he's glad for it.

In all honesty, Alex misses Elena. She reminds him of the two people he's cared about the most in his miserable life. The only two people who filled it with light. Katarina and Rose.

He remembers what it was like when he was a boy. When he would take too long getting firewood, he'd come home to a beating. When he accidentally drops a vase- a beating. When he so much as looked at his father the wrong way- a beating. There was never a moment he didn't have bruises on his body. But Katarina was always there to mend his wounds. She would lay next to him and sing him to sleep, stroking his hair until his breaths became even. Then she would fall asleep beside him, so that her father wouldn't come back to beat him once more.

Alex loathed the day his father banished Katarina. His only light. After that day, after the birth of Katarina's child, things only got worse for him. Without Katarina around, his father grew angrier. He missed his daughter. She was always his favorite. Eventually, Alex's breath would be enough to set his father off. This time, Katarina wasn't around to mend his wounds. Sometimes he laid on the floor of his home, bleeding out. He always thought it would be the end of him, but his father would send his mother before he could die. However, as much as he hated his father, he still loved his family dearly. There were few times that he and his father would take walks in the forest. His father would share stories of his childhood. Each time they would come home laughing and his father would tell him how much he loved him. He even apologized for his temper; However, his good moods didn't last long. By the next day he was back to his old self, but Alex remembered who his father truly was. He always remembered.

Alex missed Katarina.

Bringing the cigarette to his lips once more, it was taken away in a flash.

"Okay that's enough of the self loathing hours. It's time that you and me have a talk." Damon says grabbing Alex and throwing him into the house.

"What the hell's your problem? Do I need to remind you that I'm a lot older than you are. I could kill you in a second!" Alex hissed, getting to his feet.

"Relax. Relax." Damon says with his hands out. "I just need to ask a few questions. Now can you sit, while I pour you some bourbon in good faith." Damon had one of those mischievous smiles of his and the wild glint in his eye. If only he weren't gorgeous, I'd be able to tear this man apart Alex thinks as he rolls his eyes, taking a seat in the living area.

Only when the bourbon is in his hand, Alex speaks. "What exactly do you wanna know, Damon? I already promised you that I wouldn't hurt your friends."

"Well you see, I don't believe that. After all, you are a Petrova." He says taking a seat himself.

"What do you mean by that? You mean to tell me that you know my sister?" Alex raises his eyebrows in surprise.

"So you don't know about the whole Salvatore love triangle? That's surprising considering how big of a mouth she has."

Alex speeds in front of Damon, his face a mere inches away from the man's. "Don't you dare talk about my sister that way?" Alex hisses.

"Jesus! Calm the hell down, would you?" Damon pushes Alex away and grabs the bourbon from the coffee table. "I mean you've met her. She's evil."

Alex grabs the glass from his hand and throws it at the fire place. "What did I just say?!!" He boomed.

"Oh come on!! That was a perfectly good glass!" Damon yelled throwing out his hands.

Alex calms himself before he could say anything else. Alex knew he had a temper. He guesses he got it from his father. At times his short fuse would scare Lucas. Alex usually lashed out at the man if he took too long doing a spell. He loathed himself every time he would see Lucas flinch from his outbursts. "I haven't seen my sister in over five hundred years. The last I saw of her was when we said our goodbyes as my father cast her out. I do not know what has become of my sister. I've been looking for her for all these years." He takes a seat, after a sip of his bourbon.

"Well you're in luck, buddy boy. I know exactly where she is."

"You do!"

"Yup. There's just one problem."

"What's that?" Alex says stiffening his shoulders.

"I'm not gonna let you see her."

"What?!" Alex grabs a hold of Damon, throwing him to the floor. "Why the hell not?!" He hisses.

" Because Katherine is an evil bitch who can't be trusted. Why the hell would I take you to her if you'll just help her escape." Damon flips them over, restraining Alex; However, Alex manages to free his arm and punch Damon's jaw.

" Just tell me where she is!!" He says getting to his feet. Holding Damon and punching him again.

"NO!!" Damon yells as he tackles Alex to the floor.

The boys brawl until Alex manages to break the leg off of the coffee table and holds it to Damon's heart.

Damon raises his hands in surrender. "Okay. Okay! I'll take you to her. Just promise me that you won't try to set her free."

"Damon, she's my sister. I can't promise you that. What I will promise you is that I will listen as you reveal the reason why Katarina is locked away and determine for myself wether she deserves to be in there or not. Keep in mind that I hold the weapon and I have the power to plunge it into your tiny little heart." He says tapping the stake against Damon's chest.

"Sounds like a deal. You should know, it's one hell of a list of reasons. You might get tired of my talking on the car ride there."

"I've been told I'm a great listener." Alex smirks, walking to the door.

———————————

They arrive at the tomb. Alex heard all that Katherine had done to them. All the pain and suffering she caused the Salvatore brothers and their friends. Alex didn't know what to think. After all, she was still his sweet sister that took care of him as a boy.

Damon told him to stay behind in case his presence would make Katherine keep information. Alex listened reluctantly.

Damon fed Katherine blood, and got his questions answered. Alex heard it all. If Damon killed Elijah, then his sister would be stuck here forever. He couldn't let that happen.

Damon came out of the tomb and Alex pounced.

"So this was your plan all along! Keep my sister in there for all eternity! You're not going to do this." He spat in Damon's face.

"I'm pretty sure I am. And you can't stop me." Damon pushed Alex, but Alex kept Damon against the tomb wall.

"Oh I'm sure I can." Alex smirks and plunges his fist into Damon's rib cage, grabbing his heart.

Damon looks behind Alex and smiles In pain. "Oh look who's here."

Alex feels himself pulled off of Damon and is turned to find the face of Elijah.

"See, I told you. He's a Petrova, he can't be trusted." Damon tells Elijah.

"No. Damon's the one who can't be trusted. He's..." Elijah interrupts him.

" You will stay here along side your sister. You will not leave."

"I will not leave."

"Good." With that Elijah pushes Alex into the tomb and closes it behind him.

Of course Damon would do this Alex thought. That fucking asshole.

Alex got up from the ground and dusted himself off.

"Who are you supposed to be?"

He turns and there she is. The woman he's searched for almost his whole life. His sister. Katerina. He could tell it was her. While her and Elena looked exactly alike, Katerina looked worn. The 500 hundred years took it's toll on her; However, she was still as beautiful as ever. She was still the sister who cared for him.

Alex wanted to cry. After centuries, he finally found his sister. Everyday the thought that she had died all those years ago crossed his mind, but he held on to his hope. He knew he would see her again and that day was today.

He held back the tears that desperately wanted to escape.

"I'm your brother." He smiles; However, instead of getting the hug he was expecting, he got a face full of first as she held him down to the floor. Alex wondered why things always had to get violent. If people were more trusting they wouldn't be having these problems.

"You can't be my brother. My brother died over five hundred years ago. Now, who are you?!" She hisses.

"Aleksandar! I swear!" He yelled. "After our parent's death, they took me to an orphanage where I stayed until I was 18. That's when I got myself turned, so that I could find YOU!" He exclaims.

"Prove it. Prove that you're my brother!" She says pushing his head further onto the ground.

Grunting in pain, Alex says, "When I was a boy, after father would beat me, you would lay down with me, so that father wouldn't come back to beat me some more. You used to sing to me and stroked my hair until I fell asleep. I even remember the words to the song you sung me so often." He paused and began to sing.

"In a garden, in a shade,
Kalina* is rocking a cradle.
A beautiful maiden
A singer from heaven.

The cradle is swinging
Kalina is singing.
Na-ney**, na-ney, brother
Sleep, my little brother.

Slumber is calling you,
Can't you hear?
Slumber will give you
Presents, my dear.

Three dwarves are driving
A beautiful cart,
Horses with white wings
Are coming, my heart!"

She loosened her hold and stepped back with her hand covering her mouth. "Is it really you, brother? My sweet Aleksandar?" She didn't look so menacing anymore. She didn't have the face that she showed everyone else. She had the face of the girl she was five hundred years ago. Alex liked her better like this. Her real self.

"It's me. I swear it." He says rising to his feet. In a second she was on him. Holding him for dear life. If Damon would see her now, he'd be dumbstruck. Katherine wasn't one to show affection.

"I missed you so much!" She cried. "I thought I lost you too. When I didn't see your body, the villagers told me that you were the first to be buried. I thought you were gone!"

"It's okay. I'm here now." He says stroking her hair.

She steps back and gets a good look of him. "You've grown so much. And I mean grown. What are you like 6'1?

"6'3." he laughs.

"Goddamn you're a giant." She jokes, but her smile quickly turns into a frown. "You should sit. We're gonna be here for awhile." She says sitting on the floor.

"How long have you been here?" He asks.

"I lost count a long time ago." Studying her, Alex could see how tired she was. Who wouldn't be. Seeing the same walls, having no one to talk to, nothing to do - anyone would go crazy. It's a wonder she hasn't.

"Those assholes." He hissed.

"No it's fine. I deserved it."

"No one deserves this."

"I do. I did a lot of things in order to survive. And I'd do them again. If that makes me evil, then so be it." She shrugs her shoulders.

He turns to her confused. "What do you mean- survive?"

"You mean you don't know?" She asks, her eyebrows raised. Damon has a big mouth. She assumed he would have spouted all her darkest secrets by now.

"I have no clue. All I know of your past is what Rose told me. She said that Klaus tried to use you as a sacrifice, and to stop him you tricked her into giving you her blood and killed yourself. She said he couldn't use you as a sacrifice anymore cause you were a vampire." When Rose told him the story, he was surprised Katherine would do such a thing, but he couldn't blame her. If the roles were reversed he would have done the same. She was just a scared girl with no where to hide. He knew that Rose hated her for what she'd done-She was the reason Rose had to go on the run; However, Alex knew that Klaus was the real villain of the story. If he hadn't been so hell bent on killing an innocent girl, Rose and Katherine would have lived very different lives. Who knows? If his father had lived, he might have let Katherine come back home. Klaus was the one to blame.

"Well you know most of it. After that I had to run from him. I didn't realize that my decision to turn would mean I would be running for the rest of eternity. When Klaus found out what I did, he wanted to kill me even more than before. He was furious, so much so, that he went to our village and murdered our family. So just like Rose, I had to run. I've been running ever since. If Klaus finds me he wouldn't just kill me. He'd make sure that I suffered first. Torture me. Tear me apart over and over again until he decided it was time for me to die. So yeah, I did what I did to keep myself from that kind of torture. I don't regret a thing."

Listening to this, Alex couldn't help but pity her. Katarina went through the same thing Rose did and he wasn't gonna let his sister meet the same fate. He'd stop at nothing to free her even if that meant going through Elena's
disciples. Alex couldn't wait to get his hands on Damon. Alex doesn't forgive easily.

"I don't think you're evil. You did what you had to do to survive. I promise you this, Katerina. I'm going to set you free. I'm going to find a way to kill Klaus."

"Don't make promises you can't keep. He'll kill you. I can't lose you again."

"This promise I will keep. I'll be fine. Nothing's gonna stop me from killing him and finally getting my revenge. And if the Salvatore brothers get in my way, they'll meet a terrible fate. I tried playing nice, but they hurt you and they locked me in this filthy tomb. It'll be the last time that they betray us, Katerina. They'll get what's coming to them."

Katherine raises her eyebrows, surprised. "You know you sound a lot like me. There's no way we're not family." She hugs him. "I missed you, brother. I'm glad you're with me. And  don't worry. We'll be out of here before you know it." She smirks. Knowing that Damon will do exactly what she begged him not to - kill Elijah.

————————————-

After Alaric daggers Elijah and the compulsion broke, Katherine asked Alex to find Isabel while she dealt with the Salvatore brothers. And so he did. It didn't take him long; Just a few days. After finding her, Isabel told him about finding one of Klaus's witches and Alex told her to make a deal for Katherine's freedom. Thus they found themselves in Mystic Falls where Alex waited for Katherine to arrive at the foreclosure.

Alex was smoking outside when she got there, Isabel insisted that he didn't smoke inside. She thought it would be a shame for her new place to start smelling of smoke.

"Katerina!"

"I told you to call me Katherine." She laughs as she hugs her brother. "Thank you for this, it really means a lot. I'm glad I have you by my side, Aleksandar."

"I told you to call me Alex." He jokes and Katherine rolls her eyes.

"Same thing." She chuckles. "Is Isabel inside?"

"Yup."

"And she made the deal?"

"Sure did."

Katherine jumps and hugs Alex once more. "What would I do without you?" She smiles and heads inside.

Alex gives Katherine and Isabel time to catch up and only comes down when Katherine has to go back to the Salvatore gang. They exchange goodbyes and Katherine leaves once again.

Isabel leaves soon after to cause some trouble and instructed that Alex must stay in the house until Katherine got there. He waited all day when he finally heard Katherine enter.

Katherine has her phone to her ear. "How far are you?" She asked the other person on the line who Alex presumed was Isabel. He was walking down the stairs when a man walked into the house. "He... he who?" She said before turning around.

"Katherine!" He yelled and sped down the stairs, but he was too late. Katherine was down before he could get to the witch and a second later his vision turned black and he fell beside her.

Not sure how I feel about this chapter. It was hard to write the whole brother and sister reunion, because Katherine is such a bitch lol. Either way I hope you guys liked it. In the next chapter, Alex finally meets Klaus!!!! Okay, bye!!
