Seeing Shadows

Fang's silver scales shone in the moonlight as he crept through the cave. One wrong footstep would result in him falling- an falling far. Even with his wings, he knew that if he fell, well... If he spread his wings it would be worse. If he could just reach the end...

His claws scraped against the smooth crevices that he took such care to step in. The jagged edges of the open strip in the ceiling created a strange pattern of moonlight on the ripped floor.

He began to recognize his surroundings, seeing the intricate, palely colored marks on the walls. He saw the large gash in the floor, still wincing as he thought of the terrible fate that must have met the dragon.

He timidly leaned above the crack, peering onto the minefield of boulders below.

Fang let out a sigh of relief as he realized that it had only been a BloodWing, the scrapes around the crack very jagged. Not like the smooth marks, such as the crevices in the floor, that WhisperWings left behind.

The silver dragon lifted his head and carefully positioned his first talon, still thinking about the fallen dragon. Even if it was only a dragon, it had been in the caves. It was one of his brothers.

He couldn't stop it. He saw it. He heard it. He felt it. And the dragon fell.

And just when he flinched back, when he heard the sickening smash of the ghostly body beneath him, the stone crumbled underneath him. And the BloodWing mouthed; Please... Help m-
