26 ☤ you betrayed me
Edited: 28/09/23 - I will finish this book before Halloween
Claire might as well have locked Blair in her room, but of course, the ballerina didn't want to be there. When Claire was asleep in her bed, and Blair had had a couple shots for confidence, the woman climbed out her windows and ran down the fire escape.
Her wrist was wrapped up from where her last fight had clawed and cut open her skin. But Blair opted to ignore it, like she ignored most her problems. Blair was good at ignoring problems, and making more in the process.
The woman led her way down the street, in the past four days she had been bed rested, minus shifts at work, Claire had ensured she ate, there was no alcohol around and that Blair didn't up and leave in the middle of the night. As Blair kept joking, the woman was pulling overtime, unpaid overtime.
But, in the lovely time of eleven pm, Claire's overtime was not Blair's problem. In fact, she was adamant that Matthew Murdock would answer the door and talk to her. And if he didn't answer, she was going to break in and stay there until he got home and spoke to her.
The streets were always busy, even on a Wednesday night, when people should be in bed. Drunks were always on the street. Some, where nicer to others - like lady that shouted to Blair that she was very pretty, unlike the man that's shouted that a smile wouldn't kill her.
Stupidly, she hadn't brought a jacket, a mistake she regretted as rain began to fall upon her body and splash across the streets.
Cars passed by her, noisily running from one side of the city to the other. She hated it. She hated the noise and the dread that laid in the back of her head.
She brushed it off, merrily enjoying her cold walk. Cars drive past her, people wondered down the street. Time ticked by.
Sometimes, Hell's Kitchen was beautiful. Woth the rain and the moon, it was beautiful. Cold but beautiful. The walk to Matt's was normally twenty minutes, normally Blair didn't get time to enjoy the full moon.
But, it seemed she did not need to walk the whole way. Half way into the walk, Blair found her feet stuck to the concrete, her stomach dropping and her heart stopping. Maybe she should have just watched the moon.
She couldn't move. No, Blair could only stand at the end of the suddenly quiet street and watch. All the confidence and self-assurance about demanding answers washed away with the rain.
Everything made sense. Matt Murdock had forgotten about her. Matthew Murdock hadn't spoke to her in almost three week because he was busy with another girl. Blair Scott wasn't even important to him. Blair Scott was another past for another person.
She felt sick to the stomach. Her head finally pulled away from Matt kissing a blonde lady, to the floor, willing her feet to leave the floor. In all honesty, she wanted to crash through the floor, to the centre of the world and die.
How could she be so stupid? How could Matt care for her? Why would he wait forever and always for her?
Blair was not worth it. And finally she understood that, she understood that she was too much of a mess to be loved. And crazy enough, she knew she'd still forgive him, or even apologise to him if he so much as acknowledged her.
The twenty four year old had managed to move, turning her back to the newly happy couple and practically ran her way home. She ran and she ran, hoping the water on her face was rain and not tears. She was stupid. So very stupid.
She crashed back into her house, fell to the floor by her window and laid there.
A tap met her door before it was pushed open by Claire. "Hey? What's going on?"
Blair didn't move, she was frozen still.
"I know you went out." Claire said softly, taking a seat on the floor with the crying woman. Her hand brushed brown hair out of Blair's face.
Blair curled looked up at Claire, her vision foggy with tears, her skin red and puffy. "Matt."
Claire bit her tongue, laid down next to her friend and smiled. "You really need to forget about him, just for now, just whilst it's messy. You're driving yourself insane. He either wants you or not, but right now your priority needs to be you."
"He has a new girlfriend."
"What?" Claire bit her tongue once more. This vigilante was one dead man if he came near her.
