18 ☤ birthday party

Edited: 01/04/23 ... it's been a year shush I fell in love ok!

Her twenty forth birthday was spent drinking. As any good birthday is. She was sat at the booth in Matts favourite pub, with her friends. Things with her and Matt were a little unspoken, so they agreed they'd do her birthday privately to not make things even more complicated. As much as Blair would love him to be sat next to her, holding her hand, brushing her hair behind her ears and kissing her shoulder. She was such a sap!

At least in the absence of the man she adored she had people who still loved her. She had her friends - even some she didn't particularly care for.

Cassie Hastings was off buying yet another round of shots (because her plan was to apparently kill them with tequila, a drink Blair hated). Blair must admit tho, despite the awful taste in drinks, Cassie was always going to be her favourite. The girls had grown up together. Their mother worked together on the weekends (though the girls were sure it wasn't strictly friends with them, the photo album made things a bit more confusing).

Jay Johnson (JJ) sat one side of Blair, admiring a girl that he "didn't like".

Reyna Jackson, a barista a couple years older then them, high school drop out and a bit of a bitch, was a player. She had boys left right and centre, all jumping at the chance of being under her. She was a beautiful woman, no one could deny that. And she had fun doing it so was there really any harm?

Claire Temple, the woman Blair admired, the woman she lived with. A woman who was a few years older then her and often had to make sure Blair wasn't half dead or left as a skeleton. A woman who made sure she got her close friends birthday off, despite the disliking for the younger ones friends.

In all honesty, they were like teenagers sometimes. But yet, Claire put up with it for the sake of the person she also admired. Reyna running off randomly with no warning and disappearing near the end of the night - not her problem. Jj crying in the corner because the girl he loved had gone off with another man - who cares? Cassie was probably the only one she could stand, minus the many times she nearly started a fight with a random man.

Nights recently had been getting shorter. Claire would find herself trapped at work. So, she had this one night to relax and enjoy it. Forget her problems, forget everyones problems and just live. What more could a girl want.

Blair smiled at her roommate, quietly thanking her for putting up with everything so far. Claire brushed her off.

Cassie came back with the shots, a big grin on her face. She passed them out, sat next to Claire and cheered them on. The fake blonde was big on shots, her favourite part of the night out was getting fucked on cheap shots then only having to buy a couple of nice drinks.

Blair hated tequila. Point blank. Disgusting. She also hated the love sick look in JJ's face as he watched Reyna play pool with some random guy, her body a little more bent over then if she was playing with them. She really had to admire Reyna's confidence and body and ways. The girl got what she wanted, she really knew the game.

"Do you feel old?" JJ asked, eyes never leaving the pool playing woman.

"Do you feel like having fun yet?" Cassie interrupted. She was the youngest one, being only just turned twenty two about a month ago.

"Excuse me?" JJ turned to her.

"You're killing this night. She l doesn't want to settle. Get the fuck over her."

"Are you gonna let her tell to me like that?"

Blair blinked, shrugged and turned away. JJ, Cassie and alcohol didn't mix well, getting in the middle of that once again. Last time she did, a bottle of vodka was thrown at the blokes head and poor Claire and Blair had to dig glass out of his skin.

Cassie was very protective, and when the man grabbed Blair's arm at a house party for Cassie's eighteenth, a full bottle of vodka got thrown at him. The glass was everywhere, yet Blair stayed back, talked to her and helped her clean up whilst someone else swiftly took JJ to the doctors. A situation of which led to them meeting Claire. It was safe to say the two of Blair's longest friends didn't like each other.

Blair was starting to get tired. She hadn't quite drank enough to wake her up and drank too much to be wide awake.

Claire rubbed her back. It was two in the morning. She whole heartedly wanted to be at home asleep.

"Please stop fighting." The ballerina muttered, leaning on her roommate for support.

"Let's get you home." Claire decided, as the other two muttered their worries and they all watched Reyna leave with a bloke, his tie loose around his neck and in her hands.

As Claire and Blair arrived back at their apartment, the older one held back a little. The ballerina was confused, her eyebrows pulled together, yet, she unlocked the door and walked in.

Her smile widened. Her eyes widened.

"Have a good time kids." Claire told them, putting her phone away. She patted Blair on her back and walked to her room.

"Oh, wow."

"Happy birthday, beautiful." Matt Murdock told her, much like Claire. He had the evening off, only his evening was at her apartment making it perfect. He came in front of her, holding a red velvet cookie in her face, a freshly lit candle in her face. "Make a wish."

Blair giggled, took a deep breath and blew it out. "You're so perfect." She whispered, breaking a bit off the cookie and gently placing it in his lips. Her finger following through.

He kissed her finger as she pulled it away.
