Chapter 33.2
[UNEDITED]
Several things happened at once.
There was excessive heat coming from my left, and it was undoubtedly waves of heat coming from Dylan. I heard a snap, and Dylan was free. I saw him jump at the two of us with my peripheral vision, and I also heard the door of the room click open.
The needle punctured my skin. I felt the liquid being pushed into my flesh.
"Amaya!" Uncle Benjamin's voice came rushing to my ears.
At first I felt nothing, and just saw Uncle Benjamin rush towards us and Dylan pushing Amaya to the floor with all his might. She cackled loudly, and then Uncle Benjamin bent down and wrapped his hands around her throat.
"Naomi," Dylan shook me hard. I looked up at him.
A faint pain had started at my shoulder, where Amaya had pushed the serum. The pain slowly made its way to the whole body, and then seemed to be crashing my bones. Then I heard my own scream fill my ears as snaps after snaps took place inside me.
I was being taken over by the serum. The world swayed around me, my vision blurred and then came back to focus, but the pain simply would not subside. My flesh was on fire, and I wanted to hurt people badly, snap people's necks and kill them.
Blood, the smell of blood... I wanted to sniff blood. I wanted to hear the crack of a breaking neck. I wanted to hear people scream just like I was screaming at the moment.
After about an eternity, the pain slowly subsided. I found myself lying on the floor, and there were three... humans... cowering in front of me as though I was someone to be feared of.
I wanted to kill all of them.
And at the same time I wanted them to go away before I attacked them. The feeling was contradictory, and I did not know what to do.
I stared down at my arms, and they were nothing like the ones that these people had. My hands were large with beautiful, strong fingers with sharp, black nails. All I needed to do was hold them into my grip and squish, and they would turn into a puddle of blood and a gooey, fleshy mess.
"Naomi?" the boy with the blue eyes said.
I squinted at him. Did I know him?
There was an old man and a girl sitting quite a few yards away from me. She looked at me, wide-eyed.
The old man looked angry and frightened.
I moved a little and flexed my finger. The old man jumped back, the boy did not.
"Naomi?" the boy said again, "Can you hear me?"
I had had enough of this bullshit. I swatted at him, and he fell onto the floor. The girl on the floor screamed, and then she scrambled up on her feet and started backing towards the door.
I looked at the boy. He seemed hurt, but he was holding his ground alright.
A little harder next time, I made a mental note to myself.
I stood up on my feet, but it was very difficult. All my muscled popped, and I felt so strong that it was ecstatic. I could do anything I wanted. But for the time being, I wanted to kill these people.
I wasn't sure why, but there was a sudden pain in the back of my head, and then the pain spread all over my eyes. I grunted as the pain slowly made their way to my eyes, nearly blinding me. My body gave a shiver, and then I was down and on all fours.
"Naomi?"
I looked up at Dylan, "What's going on?"
"Can you recognize me?" he asked, on the verge of breaking down.
I looked down at my hand, and they were ugly. I touched my face and looked at my feet. I looked like an animal.
"What have you done to yourself!" Dylan whispered. I had never seen him more upset.
I looked at Uncle Benjamin. He looked scared and confused. But when he saw me talking to Dylan, he took steps forward.
"Incredible," he said as he stood close to me, "The serum didn't possess you like it should have!"
I ignored him, "We have to get out of here," I told Dylan, and jumped, my voice was not really like mine at all. It came hoarse and scary.
"You can't leave," Uncle Benjamin looked devastated, "Are you serious? I cannot let you leave."
"Step aside Wilkins," Dylan raised his hands.
"This is fascinating! I can have a closer inspection on you, find out the reason where the AnEN failed in her system. If it works properly, you will have less than two hours to live."
I was mad with rage. There was a war going on outside, I had turned myself into a monster, and as implied by him, was probably going to die in two hours; and all he cared about was his stupid experiments? I tried to push him away angrily, which was a little too effective on him. He flew backwards and then hit one of the giant screens. Then he fell on the controllers, and the slid back onto the ground. He sat up, holding his head in both his hands.
I did not have time to check on him, so I rushed out with Dylan.
"Do I look too hideous?" I asked him as we made our way to the back of the house, to the window through which we had entered.
"Girls will be girls," Dylan scoffed as we took another corridor, "No you don't."
I was offended, "Just asked because I am about a head taller than you now, and my hands look ugly and I don't sound like myself anymore."
Dylan stopped, and so did I.
"It doesn't matter..." he said.
"Even if I have talons and scales like fish and my face looked like an alien?" I asked, on the verge of tears. Nicole sure should temp him more now.
"Did you flinch when you saw me go through the Phase?" he asked.
"I did, a little, but it was you, and then it was okay for me," I mused.
"It's the same for me," he said, "I was a little scared back there when you did not recognize me for a bit. I thought I had lost you forever."
I did not know what to answer, so I just smiled. I did not know what it looked like on my face.
"Although this whole 'a head taller' thing is a lot for me to take in," he laughed, "I am used to my little cub, not this version."
"I know..." I said coyly, "It's going to make a lot of things difficult."
Then it hit me, "Wait, are you saying all these because I will die in two hours? It's okay to lie to terminal patient because she's going to die shortly anyway."
I laughed, Dylan's smile was wiped away from his face.
"I did not mean to offend you," I said.
Dylan probably did not notice that I provoked Amaya to inject me with that thing, which was a good thing. I did not want him to think that I had sacrificed for him.
"Let's go and make the world a better place, shall we?" I asked him, all smiles.
He nodded, "But here's the dilemma, who should we fight for?"
There were the rebels, and then there were the creatures. The former wanted me at all costs, and the creatures would probably kill anyone on their way. I was a lost cause anyway, so I said the first logical thing that came to my mind.
"Let's save the humans."
