"My deepest apologizes, it was the only way-"

"To save my life. Trust me, I get it by now. Thanks"

"Please forgive me. I've relinquished my rights as an officer."

"Hey, you're fine. You are what you eat...well bite in this case. That makes you more human than some of us. Are you Back home? Can you get back, you're alright?"

"Sadly, I am. But I don't have a lot of time. This is something I can't do for long."

"How are we doing this anyways?"

"According to books my mom used to read before father vanquished her, vampires share a certain bond with the person they've bitten. Sometimes it can alter personalities based on the person's genes. Other times, I've heard it can create a bond between people."

"Cool. But we need you back here. Rojas is arrested but there's no one else that can fill in as deputy and people are going to ask questions."

"I can't. Not just yet. I need the power from my people to do and my family is of no support. I can't return until then. There's already a candidate that can fill in Rojas' position."

"Who else can fill in other than you?"

"Saffice, do you honestly believe you're unfit for the role?"

"Me?"

"You saved me from a fate even worse than death. If you can find the other vampire that attacked us last night, then let him know that I've located her sister and she's safe. I'll do my best to protect her. When I've garnered the trust and justice for my people, they'll be able to send us back. But until then, I leave the people back on Earth to you. My power's fading. I have to go."

"Wait. Kaiser, Lieutenant."

"Don't give up. You have allies, you have conviction. Just believe in your own justice. We'll rid our worlds of bloodstained scars one day."

Saffice opened her eyes back to Gwain and Travis.

"What happened?"

"I spoke to the Prince. He's alive, but he can't come back for now. It's gonna take a while. Anyways, Travis, he found your sister!"

"She's alive?"

"See cutie, I told you. If you don't see the body drop, there's always a chance." She started sensing he was about to cry or sneeze, only to watch Gwain hand him a crap ton of napkins next to her hospital bed for an emotional Travis to express his joy onto.

Those two work together surprisingly well.

"Anyways. Rojas never assigned a deputy chief of police. And I'm the closest in charge for now. It won't be for long, but there's gotta be something I can do. New York City needs order that's not prejudice....or willing to kill a crap ton of people."

"What about Kaiser?"

"He said it too. He believed in me. Someone actually believed in me...sides you Gwain. And we don't have any other options, someone has to do it. Might as well."

"My best friend, the Chief of Police. Oh that next college reunion is gonna be dope."

"Anyways. Travis, what will you do?"

"I've got a body count of vampires, but only ones that can cause harm. I'll turn myself in once you're healed."

"No way, we need you!", Gwain protests.

"Pardon?"

"Um, hello? The press is gonna find out that the Prince Police suddenly disappeared. There's other cops like Rojas, and other sickos, human or vampire that's probably gonna do worse. We need someone just as strong on our side right? All we gotta do is say that the Prince went back home for a bit and Travis is his private bodyguard. Takes care of the pointless question, easy."

Surprised, Saffice and Travis turn to each other in awe.

"Gwain, I should probably tell you this more, but you're a genius!"

"Please, praise me more", flaunting before Gwain directed her attention to Travis. "As for you, my sister loving bad boy. You've hunted down like mad vamps before, right?"

"Any that have threatened or were willing to cause my search for the prince. But I do have some skills in investigation."

"Great, so you'll be working with us to pay back your debt to society then?"

He bowed down in front of the both of them." I'm honored. But someone like me doesn't deserve an opportunity like that."

Saffice lifts his head back.

"I told myself that the night a vampire named Skya died to save my life. At that moment I didn't even know I'd live long enough to be saved by another vampire. Twice. But if you're willing to help, let us. I'm not...you know...okay...that you've killed people. Every day I regret being the one who lived so she could get a second chance. But, if your sister is still alive, then that's all the more reason to keep going till you see her again, right?"

"I suppose so. But after all I've done, I'm not worthy enough to stare her in the face."

He sounded just like Gwain did.

"Then become someone who can. That's the justice I believe in. You in?"

She saw him think it over.

"Okay Officer..I mean Lieutenant Perguson, if you need any service, I'll be in your debt."

Gwain cheered as Saffice only smiled, grateful to be around friends.

"Just call me Saffice when we're not around. Or Pane if you wanna entertain Gwain. Alright, let's go."

Thinking about what Edumundo and Skya said to her, she started to pull off most of the chords and tape around her body, and got off her bed.

"Wait, where are you going?"

"Aren't you coming with me? To the police station, duh. If I'm the acting chief of police, I might as well start acting like it. Interviews, press conferences, making sure our police ranks aren't filled with anymore psychos. I'm not doing college level work like this without backup, we already graduated. Plus", checking her body, which looked practiced healed. I'm fine, I'll just use Rojas' paycheck for it. Choi, Lecther. You coming?

Gwain dragged Travis along and the three began walking through the corridor.

"So what are you going to tell the public, now."

"Easy. As chief, I want to help make a future where everyone can live free of each other. Where no one, human or vampire, have to worry about seeing someone else's bloodstained. Now, let's get some justice in this messed up world."
