[0.5]

Kara's reptilian eyes couldn't help but glance at the blue colored boy every few seconds as they walked through the halls of the school. He was strange and she wasn't sure how much she liked that. It wasn't his blue skin, his tail that was like the devil's, his fangs, claws, and three fingers. He seemed nothing like a devil, he seemed the exact opposite of what some may assume from a glance at his appearance. He was much too energetic it seemed, the wide-eyed boy gazed at everything around him with wonder. It was like he didn't hold any shame towards what he looked like and what he was, which made Kara slightly jealous.

"So," Kara started to speak to distract herself from invading thoughts, "How did Raven get you here?"

"In Germany." He replied. "She saved me. I was put into a fight." That caught Kara's attention. The boy didn't seem like much of a fighter to her, she wondered how he could ever fight somebody.

"Did you win?" She asked with a chuckle.

"I suppose so." He answers remembering his fight with the winged man he threw into the electric fenced barrier. Kara laughed again, her hair hid her face that found him enjoyable. It took him a second to think about what he said and then added on. "It was self-defense. I didn't want to hurt him."

Kara let out a snarky laugh, but she found Kurt smiling at her reaction. "I figured you were too good to fight someone purposely. You seem too nice."

"Is that a bad thing?" He then asks with worry. Kara smirked, he seemed so naive which she found funny.

"Not really. People here will definitely like you more. Trust me I know what it's like to be the opposite."

"People don't like you?" He wonders. Kurt didn't know much about the scaled girl next to him, but she was straight forward and didn't seem to care what others thought. She also seemed so closed off, but it didn't bother him as much as it would others. The only others that don't mind are Jean, Scott at times, the professor and Hank. Others look on with disdain and disgust because she didn't look like a nice girl and didn't act like one before you get past the beginning.

"You could say that." She left it at that, letting Kurt wonder all about the girl who seemed so mysterious.

Kara managed shown him most of the school without leaving him there like a lost puppy and the two had found her friends sitting down and talking.

"Hey Jean, blindfold." Kara greeted earning a glare from the boy in red sunglasses. His attention turned to the boy next to her then.

"Who's the kid, Kara? Your brother?" Scott kid as Kara resisted her urge to hit him with his glasses. Jean sighed and hit Scott gently as a mother scolding her child would.

"Know when to not say things, Scott." She whispered. Of course, she knew of Kara's real brother, the one who found her when she first mutated and cast her off as a monster like the rest of her family. This boy was nothing like him, in fact, Jean believed he was the exact opposite which made her hopeful for her friend. It didn't take Jean long to find what was in Kurt's head. Wondering thoughts of Kara along with fascination not with her look but just her as a person. She fought off her proud smile. Well those thoughts, and the thoughts of an average tourist in the United States.

"My name is Kurt Wagner. I'm very excited to see your country." Kurt introduces himself to the two. Jubilee walked in with her cheery face. Kara didn't hate her and Jubilee was kind to her, that was the end of their relationship.

Scott started to try and act cool with his arms against the couch in a "cool guy" stance.

"Well, you're not gonna see it here. The only thing American about this place is it used to be British."

"What oh my god, Scott you didn't tell me that. What a shocker let me go tell our British professor that this used to be British." Kara says with sarcasm dripping in every word. Scott gave a fake chuckle that Kara returned. "Anyways, Kurt this is Blindfold, or as some people may call him Scott. But blindfold is better. He's new here as well."

"Don't listen to her, buddy. She's insane." He says getting up from his spot towards them. "And I'm already up for a prison break. What do you say we take this blue guy on a little field trip? I'm sure there's a mall around here somewhere." Kara froze and could have sworn she heart stopped beating for a second. She hasn't been in public since she came to school. Going to the mall or any other place that would cause her to be seen by people seemed like a distant memory. Discovering her mutation as well as her "issues" was only a few years ago, to her she felt as if she was still in transition.

She could remember going to see the most recent movie with her friends from school if her mother would allow it, the popcorn filling her mouth with the buttery taste, the loud iconic songs that rang through her ears. She took it all for granted so long ago.

"What's a mall?" Kurt asks curiously. Scott laughs in disbelief while Jean glanced at Kara in worry. She had never seen Kara look so stressed, almost scared. Kara never was seen as scared, it wasn't in her nature to everyone.

"What's a mall?" He repeats, "Alright now, this is a matter of national pride. Civic duty." Jean comes towards the group now, placing a gentle unsuspecting hand on Kara's arm.

"Scott." She calls to him as if to remind him of all the reasons why it was a bad idea.

"What? You and Kara have been cooped up here for a long time. And the professor's not even home." He tries to reason with the telepathic mutant. Jean glanced at Kara who had stayed quiet through the whole thing. She's tried hard enough to stay out of Kara's mind, but it was hard to be a good friend to the girl who never let out how she truly felt unless in fits of rage. "C'mon Kara, there's nothing to worry about." Scott tries to then say for Kara's sake.

"I'd like to go to the mall. Try it." Kurt added in.

"Alright then," Scott replied with growing confidence in an outing from the mutant school.

Kara swallowed what dignity she would have left and nodded with a stoic expression. "Sure why not. The circus will come to town." She says and left without another word. She tried to control her breathing with each step. Her claws dug into her hands to control herself.

"Come get us when you're ready I'll go get Kara," Jean tells Scott and goes after her friend. She jogged up a little and caught up to her. "Kara are you alright?"

"Nothing like a little annoyance with Scott can't help."

"You know he just likes to be a jerk. He means well though." She defends the new boy.

"He knows I'm uncomfortable. And I know I don't have to come along, it's just that how can I sit in this school for the rest of my life or go out and not be judged. If I had what I wanted, I'd be out at the mall right now."

"You wouldn't be with us though." Jean reminds her. "I know it's not what you want. But we're here, we're your family and we accept you no matter what."

Kara slowed to a stop glancing at the bloodied cuts she left on her hand that was already starting to heal, due to her mutation.

"Come on, let's go to the mall, possibly annoy Scott, and do what "normal" teen girls do for once in our lives, for one day." Jean offers, saying normal with air quotes and a laugh.

"I haven't done that in a while. I forgot what it feels like to be a normal girl."

"I never even had that," Jean replies. Kara gave a small smile, which was always good enough for Jean and grabbed her wrist.

"Let's go to the others before they wonder what we're doing," Kara says dragging Jean along with her. Kara still felt a dreadful feeling in her gut yet decided to ignore it for her friend and for the chance to enjoy a day possibly. Just one day.

"By the way. Kurt seems really nice." Jean mentions to Kara with a slight smirk on her face. Kara tried not to express herself in any way when replying to her friend.

"Yeah he does seem nice, he's a good kid. You know he could teleport?" Kara rambles off.

"Yeah, I do. I also found out he likes to think of you. It's sweet." Jean didn't need to see anything else just watch as Kara walked faster. Jean knew though, Kara was smiling.
