I don't really remember the day I was officially a mutant. More like I don't want to. It was a sad day. Parents kick me out, my brother disowns me. I try not to get all weepy about it. It wasn't too long ago when I officially became the freak of my family.

"I hate you!" Kara yells as she goes after her mother who walks back into the house.

"You're just saying that. Calm down. You've been getting angry all week. This will be good for you." Her mother replies, not exactly caring about how she feels.

"You don't care about me! You don't care about anything!" Kara yells, soon yelling turns into groaning, as she holds her head, closing her eyes.

"Oh will you stop being so dramatic Kara? Get over it." Her brother Colton says.

"It hurts." Kara struggles out, as her father comes in as well.

"What hurts, Kara?" Her dad asks, oblivious to the scales that started to form on her body.

"Everything." Kara groans out, her voice sounding monstrous, dangerous.

"She's just faking, dad. Nothing's wrong with her." Colton cuts in, not caring about the situation at hand.

Kara, all of sudden abruptly leaves the room, running upstairs to her room, growling and screaming being heard all the way down to the living room.

"Colton please go see if your sister is alright?" Her mother ignores his muttering of how annoying his younger sister was.

Upstairs, Kara was on the floor, her body felt like a burning fire was running through. At the moment, scales had formed on the side of her face, and claws and fangs replaced her finger nails and some teeth. A tail would also form but she had the control of letting it grow when she needed it, but not at this moment.

Colton knocks on her door, flinching at hearing her final screaming, as it then cuts off and she starts groaning and whimpering. "Kara? I'm coming in." He tells her before barging in, freezing in his spot at the sight of his sister, newly changed.

"Kara?" He questions like he couldn't recognize her at all.
Kara looks up, tears forming, her throat sore, her voice coming out as scratchy. "Colton, what's happening to me?" She asks weakly, reaching out for him, but stopping when Colton held his hand out in fear rather than to help her.

"What the hell are you?" The seventeen year old asks, and then starts yelling for his parents as he runs down the steps.

"Colton what is it?" Their mother asks, feeling worry for her only daughter.

"It's Kara. I think she's a mutant." The two patents freeze, looking to each other and then to their son.

"Mom, dad." They hear as their sight went from Colton to Kara.

"Oh my god." Her mother, Melissa, holds her hand to her mouth to conceal her gasp, as instead of worry, fear and anger started to consume her. "Colton come here. Don't go near her." Colton listens stepping back away from Laura and towards his parents leaning into them.

"What's happening to me? I'm scared." Kara whispers. Melissa turns to her husband, to let him deal with the situation.

"We can help you. I'm sure there are doctors-" he starts suggesting but is cut off by Melissa.

"There are no doctors that can cure that." She says in anger pointing to Kara.

"But mom-"

"I want you out of my house! Away from this family. I will not have a mutant, a freak in this house." Melissa yells.

"Dad? Colton?" Kara turns to her brother and father wondering what were their thoughts.

Her father was silent but her brother had a lot to say about his sister being a monster. "I don't want a monster in the house. Who knows what it could do?"

"There are places that can help you. But not this house." Her father speaks up. Laura looks down at herself before getting what she needed and leaving the Stevens household forever.

It was a pretty rough time for me. After I soon found my way to Professor Xavier's school and it was fine from there. Sort of.

I mean I still get the strange stares sometimes. But who wouldn't looking like me. And I don't really help by being, well me. No one appreciates my "lovely" comments, I suppose. But this school is the best place for me.

A/N: hey guys so this isn't really a chapter, just wanted to do a kind of prologue to explain Kara, who she is and her mutation. You'll definitely see more of her and her wonderful personality in the next chapters. I can't wait to write her and being with Kurt. It's going to be sweet because he is such a sweetheart and she's very bitchy when you first meet her but you have to get through to her.
