CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Ryan was sitting in his car, contemplating whether or not he and Michelle should tell his captain, for all they knew the capitan could be helping the mole. They NEEDED to be cautious, if any information was leaked the murderer would strike again, they couldn't take that risk. So for now, they needed to keep it on a low profile. Ryan pretended it was a normal day at the office, walking into the station and sitting at his desk.

Michelle sat down and held out a hot cup of joe to Ryan, he gratefully accepted it and took a sip of it, feeling the warm liquid hit his tongue. He could tell Michelle's eyes were lingering, he glanced up and saw her staring at him. "Are we gonna talk to the captain?" She asked.

"I don't know, we gotta be careful. We need to do an investigation of our own, we don't know if we can trust anyone here." Ryan said, silently guestering the office filled with police officers and other employees.

Michelle nodded her head, "We have to think strategically." Ryan agreed, if they didn't play their hand right, the whole house of cards could decimate. They knew the killer was a man, they narrowed the suspect list down to three guys, but all of them had tight alibis. They also knew someone walked in and delivered the letters, so they needed to check the security cameras.

Ryan got up with Michelle following him to the security room, seeing Chester the security IT rep, "Hey Chester." Ryan greeted. Chester looked up and smiled.

"Ryan, my man! Did you catch the game last weekend?" Chester asked, turning away from the monitors.

"Actually I recorded it, been busy with work and all, I haven't been able to watch any of the games lately. But I will this weekend though." Ryan replied.

"Chester, do you mind if we look over the footage from a few weeks ago?" Michelle asked.

Chester nodded, "Sure, is it for a case you're working on?"

"Something like that, since you're not an officer we can't discuss that with you pal." Ryan said, Chester logged into the footage and let Ryan sit in his chair. "I got you brother, I'll be back I'm gonna go take a phone break." Chester said leaving the room.

Michelle checked to make sure Chester actually left, giving Ryan the go ahead, as he searched for the security footage of the day Michelle received her letter and his. He and Michelle stared at the computer screen, hoping they'd catch something, a sliver of mishap from the killer, looking at every last detail in the frame. But there was, "Nothing, no one's moving towards our desks, everyone is busy in their own little world." Ryan sighed.

Michelle crossed her arms, "There's no way they'd be able to bypass a station full of police clientele, and there's definitely no way someone didn't get the letters on our desks."

Ryan thought back to the day he received his letter, it wasn't on his desk, "What about Daniels? He gave me my letter, but not you? Why did he do that, unless he's the mole? He saw that we were getting suspicious, and didn't hand deliver your letter to you himself." He explained.

"Someone must've walked in and talked to Daniels, unless this is something paranormal."

Ryan chuckled, "Wow, Collins. You're making jokes."

"I'm not a robot Bowen." Michelle answered.

"Yeah, okay, anyway let's talk to Daniels, and figure out what the hell is going on." Ryan signed out of the footage and got up from the chair, him and Michelle left the room and went to search for Officer Daniels. They went to his partner, Officer Russell, seeing him typing away on his computer. He looked at the two, acknowledging them.

"Hey Aiden, we need some information." Ryan greeted.

"Sure Bowen, whatcha need?" He asked.

"Do you know where Officer Daniels is?" Michelle questioned, Aiden nodded in response.

"Yeah he just left I think, I don't know I've been going through documents all day." Aiden answered, Russell wasn't the type to lie. He pretty much always told the truth, so if someone needed information, he was the guy to go to. "Alright thanks." Aiden nodded and went back to typing on his device.

Ryan and Michelle rushed to the precinct doors and saw Daniels, Ryan called out to the other man, that's when he bolted, Ryan and Michelle began running after him chasing him down the streets of Krebess, they kept chasing him until he ran into an alley which was a dead end. Ryan grabbed his collar and pinned him against the wall. "Who told you to give us those letters?" He asked, losing all patience at that point.

"WHO TOLD YOU TO GIVE US THE LETTERS DANIELS?!" He shouted.

"I don't know! I swear! T- They approached me outside my car when I started my shift, they just wrote a piece of paper instructions! I don't know what they looked like, they were wearing a mask, and all I saw was their eye color!" Daniels exclaimed.

Michelle walked closer to the men, "What else do you know?" Daniels was terrified as she examined his features. It was like a little kid being scared of the dark. "I'm only asking this once, what else do you know?" She repeated, but this time in a hair-raising tone.

"Their eyes were brown, th- that's it, that's all I know I swear!" Daniels replied.

Michelle scoffed, "Great, the most generic eye color!"

"You listen here, and you listen good or god help me. If I ever see you doing shady crap, or tampering with evidence, I WILL end your whole career, and make sure you never see the god darn light of day. Do. I. Make. Myself. Clear?" Ryan asked, still pining the other man against the brick wall, hearing him squirm in pain.

"Y... Yeah, loud and clear." Ryan let go of Daniels and exhaled, to say Ryan was mad was a huge understatement, he was absolutely livid. This kid, this rookie played them. Either way they were going to catch this guy, no matter what it took. Even if it meant dying himself, Alice was going to get the justice she rightfully deserved.
