CHAPTER SEVEN

It has now been twenty eight days, or four weeks since Alice was brutally murdered. It sent shock waves across the entire town of Krebess, Missouri, they never thought their peaceful town would hold such haunting horrors.

Scott returned to school, and no matter where he looked everyone had an expression of sympathy in their eyes, he hated it, he didn't want people's sympathy. They didn't even know Alice, yet, they were upset about her passing. All he wanted justice for his sister.

Tyler sat with him at lunch, he knew Scott wouldn't be his talkative self, so he kept conversations to a minimum. Tyler felt so bad for his friend, his heart was heavy as Scott picked at his food. Tyler sighed, "Scott, you gotta eat." He said frowning.

Scott didn't look at him he was too distracted, "I'm not hungry." He spoke in the tiniest voice.

"You say that but I know you, please take a few bites of your lunch. After that, I'll leave you alone." Tyler said, trying to compromise with Scott.

Scott nodded his head weakly, and began taking small bites of his food, it was hard to stomach the fact that he will always come home to a house that lost its light.

After lunch was over it was time for the boys to part ways and go to their separate classes, Tyler didn't want to leave Scott on his own but there wasn't time to switch classes. So unfortunately he had to let Scott walk to history class alone.

Meanwhile with Detective Bowen, he was combing through the leftover security footage from both the antique shop and Myers café, that's at the corner where the blue truck took Alice.

He and Michelle were on somewhat good terms, she's still annoyed at the stupid rules Ryan made up. But she follows them nonetheless, it really didn't make sense why Alice got in that truck.

I mean from what the Blair family has told both him and Michelle, Alice was a smart kid. Ryan only got three numbers from the license plate, and the footage wasn't clear enough for him to get a look at who the driver was.

He refused to let this case go cold, the Blair's have already been through enough. They definitely don't need the sense of giving up and losing hope. As the investigation goes on.

Scott noticed the change in his parents behavior, his father was at work most of the time, and his mother would just come home from work and sob the entire night and repeat that over and over. They were mindlessly distancing themselves from him, they didn't even realize how it was affecting their son.

The longer the investigation went on Scott was becoming more saddened. It was nighttime in the Blair residence, Michael had given his wife a kiss and went to bed while Laura was reading, she set her book aside and went to check on Scott.

It was pitch black, white specks littered the sky. Scott was currently writing down everything that took place before and after Alice's murder. He misses her so much, his heart practically aches he wishes he could hear her laugh, see her smile, hold her. But she's gone and he was unable to keep his promise to always protect her.

He sighed looking up at the dark sky counting each glowing star remembering that's where Alice is now. She's among the stars where she wanted to be after she passed on, Alice was supposed to outlive them all but instead they're outliving her.

He kept writing his thoughts down when he noticed he wasn't alone, he turned to see his mother standing slanted against the doorframe. She spoke, "Shouldn't you be asleep?" She asked as he put his journal away.

"I should be many things, but I live to disappoint." He replied.

Laura walked closer to her son sitting down at his feet, as he leaned on the bay window, Scott didn't meet his mother's eyes, but he could tell she was watching him.

He looked at her, "Sweetheart, you have school tomorrow it's time for bed." She said.

"Yeah... I know." He said.

"You okay kiddo?" She asked, Scott noticed this was the first time his mom asked him that question this week. "I'm fine mom."

He really didn't feel like answering questions about; "Are you okay?" Or "How are you doing?", how do you think he's doing? For god's sake he lost his only sibling and his parents are too busy to make time for him. His life was great until it wasn't, but who cares right?
