CHAPTER FIVE

Detective Bowen was walking up the driveway leading to the Blair estate, with a horrible pit in his stomach. This was the part he dreaded about being a detective. Having to give news to a family whose loved one died a terrible death that wasn't deserved.

That little girl was only thirteen years old, she had her whole life ahead of her. To go through her teen years in high school, to go to college, get married, and have kids of her own. Ryan was at the door now, he knocked and waited for someone to come and answer it.

Soon he saw the face of Michael Blair, who opened the door and greeted him. "Hello detective, do you have news about Alice?" He asked.

Ryan nodded and Michael let him in leading him into the kitchen where Laura was, she looked like an absolute wreck, her hair was in disarray, papers were all over the marble top island, and her eyes were red and puffy. "Hello detective, if I had known you were coming I wouldn't have been looking like an absolute mess." She said.

"It's alright Mrs. Blair, is Scott home?" Ryan asked, noticing the boy's absence.

"He's with his friend Tyler, why do you ask?" Laura said.

"Well, I didn't want him to be present for what I'm about to tell you, I do have news about Alice. Unfortunately it's not news you want to hear."

Michael went over to Laura holding her close, "I'm sorry to say this, but last night, we got a call from your son and his friend Tyler who were at a park in town. They walked down a trail, finding a barrel. Don't worry Scott nor Tyler messed with it."

"We had a team search around the perimeter and the barrel, and unfortunately they did recover a body. I'm sorry but the body was identified as Alice."

At that moment Laura collapsed into Michael's arms bursting into tears, Ryan hated watching that. This family's life has been turned upside down, Michael couldn't believe it his little girl was gone, and Laura lost her baby.

After Michael put Laura to bed and showed Ryan out, he knew he had to pick Scott up and tell him. He really didn't want to, but he's definitely not going to pretend like he didn't just receive the most heartbreaking news ever. "I'm sorry for your loss Mr. Blair." Ryan said.

"Thank you detective, just find the person who took my daughter away from me and my wife please." Michael said.

Ryan nodded and proceeded to head to his car, Michael shut the door and went back upstairs to his and Laura's room, walking towards her side of the bed and kissing her cheek. Leaving a note at her bedside telling her he went to go pick Scott up and bring him home, incase she woke up and he was gone.

He then went downstairs and grabbed his coat and car keys, walking towards the front door and outside to his car. Getting into it and putting the key in the ignition. With his hands on the steering wheel, he began to sob. It may be selfish but all he could think was why her? Why Alice? Out of all the people that person could've taken why did she have to die?

He soon wiped his tears away and began to drive to Tyler's house, once he got there he walked up to the door he knocked onto it. He really was regretting seeing his son's face, he really didn't want to see the heartbreak Scott's face would hold.

Maya Woods, one of Tyler's mothers, answered the door greeting Michael with a smile. "Hey Michael, Scott's upstairs I'll go get him." She said letting Michael in and leaving to get Scott.

As Michael waited he heard the commotion of his son and his friend, laughing and talking about the movie they were going to watch at their next sleepover. Scott walked down the stairs and saw his father who he smiled at.

"Hi dad." He said.

For now Michael has to put on a facade so Scott couldn't see how upset he was. "Hey kiddo, c'mon we should really be going. Don't wanna drive Mrs. Woods even crazier." He chuckled.

"Oh, it wasn't a problem Mike, Olivia and I had a few laughs from these two. Anyway bye Scott see you later."

"Alright tell Olivia I say hello, bye Tyler." Michael said.

Maya nodded, "Bye Ty, see ya later!" Scott exclaimed.

"Bye Scott see you later." Tyler replied. Michael and Scott exited the house getting into the car and driving back to their home. Laura may have been awake by now so Michael knew he and his wife had to talk to Scott together.

After getting inside the house, putting up their shoes and coats going upstairs Scott put his stuff in his room. Michael peered into the room seeing Laura up, she must've taken a shower since her hair was damp looking. He gave her a silent nod she nodded back.

They were silently communicating, they knew exactly what the other was thinking. Scott needed to know even though it was gonna cause so much pain and agony. "Hey Scott, me and mom wanna talk to you." Michael said from the doorway.

"Coming." Scott said, he walked to his room door exiting it and walking to his parents room. Seeing his mom sitting on their bed under to covers. "Hi mom! You won't believe this, I actually won against Tyler in Mortal Kombat!" He exclaimed.

"That's awesome sweetie, but dad and I need to tell you something." Laura said with a sniffle. Scott walked up to his mother climbing into the bed and snuggling into her arms, Michael then joined them holding his son as well.

"Did Detective Bowen find something at the park? Did he find out where Alice is?" Scott asked.

"Detective Bowen came over this morning and he uh, he told us some things Scott, and unfortunately it wasn't good news." Michael said.

"Is it something about Alice? Is she hurt?"

"It was something about your sister, she's not hurt but they police found a body in the barrel you and Tyler found on the trail. And we're sorry sweetie." Laura then started crying, Scott was confused.

"Why are you apologizing mom? You didn't do anything wrong, Dad why is mom crying?"

"Scott the body that the police found in the barrel was identified as... as Alice. I'm so sorry kiddo, but your sister is gone." Michael said.

Scott was frozen, they have to be lying, Detective Bowen will find Alice and she'll come home right? "No, you're lying, Alice is going to come back to us. And everything will be okay again." Scott said, he really wanted to believe it, but he was now doubting his words based on how emotional his parents are.

"No Scott, Alice is gone sh- she's not coming back. We're so sorry." Laura said, pulling Scott closer to her. Now it all came crashing down, Scott began to cry in his parents arms shaking his head. He really didn't want Alice to be gone.

"She was supposed to come home!" He exclaimed.

Michael and Laura held him close, this has to be the worst day ever, the entire Blair family felt broken. Alice was gone, murdered in cold blood an innocent girl went to live in god's house too soon. A new angel has gained her wings.
