Refilling the Laboratory.
Night had long since fallen and the screams of terror and pain had not faded in the least, deep within the castle walls a man remained stationed at his desk taking down the few notes he had recorded earlier in the day. A soul had been lost to its experiment, the blood loss was too much to keep it alive. He had brought the soul back into the realm of the living twice before it finally succumbed to death. Looking up from his work he allowed his gaze to drift over the four other souls that had held on. They were the last of their group, and the walls were holding up nicely blocking the rest of the lab from view. They could however, speak to one another and even swivel their heads around to see those to their left or right.
Pushing his chair back from his desk, he stood and grasped onto the recorder in his pocket. Moving over to the table of four he began to take notes. "Subject Three is doing well, vitals are stable and is ready for stage two. Subjects two and four seem to be falling behind a bit and will need replacing, Survival until morning; unlikely. Subject number seven is doing well in the middle of stage two and might progress to stage three within the next few days. Tests to be completed later." On hearing his voice the screams grew into sheer panic while subjects 3 and 7 begged for the women to be released. "You know as well as I, this cannot be done. I need you all, if you do not stay I will have to find others to fill your places." This was the first time he had broken his own rules. He never conversed with the souls, never explained anything. These souls however had out lasted the others and one was even on the brink of stage three. How could he refuse them at least one answer?
Moving back out of sight he checked each one for infections. Seeing subject four's tubes full of puss he sighed and began disconnecting it from the support system the others were on. Hearing the screams of panic pick up once more as the light for four went out on the screen they could see, he simply began to explain why he unhooked her. "If left on the support system you would all be at risk for infection. Subject four is beyond antibiotics and will not make it past the night, I will not have it-"
"Alexis! Her name is Alexis!" Seven shouted lashing out with one arm catching the man in the high with a fist. "She would not be dying if it were not for you keeping us here like prisoners!" It shouted again. This time when Seven lashed out the man was ready and quickly tied down both arms to the bed before looking at the screen for Four.
"Actually, you are mistaken. Four," he started spitting out the number like it would wash away the unholy use of a name. "Was dying when it came in. I was simply curious to see how far it would make it. Four has fight, I will say that. However, I will not tolerate violence in my lab!" He shouted the word lab before shutting off the lights and walking from the room. By the time he would return home once again Four would be gone from this world and another will have taken its place.
Making his way up the long curved stone stairs the male could hear the shouts fade behind him. He had chosen to take this castle far into the mountains for the simple fact that its dungeon was not only the perfect size for his lab, but it had been dug so far beneath the earth that no one could hear the screams, and no one would find them there. Closing the thick oak door behind him he moved to lock it with an old skeleton key. If he was going hunting today he needed to change into something more sociably acceptable. His work clothes would not be accepted in any society, including the dead city. Well, at least not while they were covered in the blood of humans. Finding his way to the room in which he had come to claim he moved towards the wardrobe and pulled out a new set of clothes that seemed more acceptable. A pair of blue jeans, black button up shirt and a clean pair of boots. After a quick shower, he changed leaving his work clothes in the bathroom before making his way out of the empty castle and down towards Spring Valley.
He needed more humans, and where better to find humans than Spring Valley, the one place humans crowded in like cattle. He was guaranteed to find someone to fit the needs of his lab. There were many studies left to do and even if he couldn't use someone for the main experiment he could likely use them elsewhere. Patting down his pockets he made sure the business cards he had created were within easy access. Making his way into town he looked around trying to find people in good health who weren't low on blood. After all, this was the feeding grounds for most of the Vampires within the limits of the Dead City.
Walking up to an elderly gentleman and his young daughter he struck up a conversation, normally the man would just take the bodies he wanted, but today he needed far more than he could carry. So the ruse that he was in need of an apprentice was in effect.
"Good Evening sir, I am Dr. Bloodnovski. How are you this fine eve?" He asked extending his hand. After a moment of hesitation and a brief smile on Blood's part the other male grasped his palm and shook it briefly.
"I am well enough, no attack tonight. That is always a bad sign." He mused and scratched his head. "Can I ask what you are doing out at such a late hour?"
"I am looking for a new apprentice, you see my last one didn't listen well and it ended badly for him. I hold odd hours so I am hoping to find another who can also hold the same hours as myself. Your daughter, is she a learned girl?" He asked holding out a card to the man.
"Oh yes, top of her class she was. Was going into medical school until her mother was killed. Maybe she could be of help to you?" He asked pulling the young blonde closer to Dr. Blood. As the Doctor looked her over he smiled and nodded.
"Yes, perhaps she could. My place of residence is on the back of the card. Have her go there tomorrow night, only her. I cannot have extra bodies around, my work is top secret and cannot be interrupted." When the male nodded and shook his hand again Dr. Blood made his leave further into the small human town looking for more willing participants. Some were in agreeance to do a study for him others to compete for the role of assistant. Little did anyone know they would all be involved in an experiment.
After he had run out of cards to give out he took his leave of Spring Valley and began to make his way towards home once again. On his way back up the mountain he spotted a man camping alone. This was too much of an opportunity to pass up, he had the same body structure as subject one had had. He was the perfect replacement given the initial tests came back clear. Pulling a syringe from his pocket he inched his way closer to the males camp watching as he lay down for a good nights rest.
There were plenty of things surrounding the man to protect him from Vampires and Werewolves, but nothing to stop Blood from taking what he wanted. Waiting a few more moments for the male to drift off into the REM cycle of sleep he moved next to the males sleeping bag silently. Sticking the needle to the syringe into the males neck he slowly injected him with the sedative. When there was no chance of waking the male Dr. Blood lifted him and his sleeping bag up from the ground and made his way back to the castle. Should someone happen upon the empty camp, it would only be assumed he met his demise.
Once back in the castle Blood would lay the man on a bed in a guest room and restrain him to the frame. Drawing blood from the vein in his arm he filled three separate vials before placing a bandage on the pin hole in his arm. Setting them on a tray that rested on the bedside table the doctor would check his vitals and record them on a clipboard at the foot of the bed. This new male was not yet ready for the lower level. First the initial compatibility tests needed to be done.
When the tests had been completed he was upset to learn that this male was not in fact as compatible as he had initially hoped he would be. The body structure and general health were where they needed to be, but this males lungs were not. His lungs has been coated with tar from years of smoking. Though this was not a good fit for the experiment he wanted to complete, it was a good fit for another he had yet to start. Keeping the male sedated he moved him from the bed onto a gurney and wheeled him over to the newly installed elevator. As he pressed the button for the lower level he couldn't help but wonder why he hadn't thought of installing one earlier. As the doors opened, he moved him and the patient inside pressing the button to the left that would lower them down into the basement.
Once the doors opened at the bottom he wheeled the man into a holding room. Placing him against the wall and checking his restraints Blood stepped into another room off to one side to change once more. Slipping back into his work clothes that consisted of boots, black slacks, black t-shirt, thick brown leather apron and his white coat that seemed to be a bit blood soaked he made his way back out to a now conscious but immobile patient. Letting a small smile form on his lips Dr. Blood moved into sight of the male.
"Hello, I am Dr. Bloodnovski. Do you know why you are here?" He asked his russian accent thick as he spoke. When the male shook his head in worry Blood held up one hand as if to calm the male. "It is alright. You were bitten by a snake young man. You were brought into me by a man who witnessed it. You will be here awhile as the venom had gotten into your bloodstream. I am going to sedate you now.." When the male tried to fight him Dr. Blood simply smiled again. "If you do not rest, the venom will kill you." He warned and watched the male calm down enough for the needle to slip into the skin of the males arm.
Within moments the male was out again. Moving into the laboratory once more, this time accompanied by a new subject he pushed the gurney towards a new machine the others had yet to see in action. Lifting the male from the gurney to the table Dr. Blood stripped the male and secured him on the steel table. After marking his body in several places he made his way to the storage room and pulled out several sharp meat cleavers and scalpels. Moving back to the male he glanced up only to see the eyes of subjects two, three, four and seven watching him. This machine wasn't behind the wall, and was on show for them to see.
Grasping onto a box of gloves he slipped them on before grabbing sterile tubes from inside a cupboard to his left. Despite the questions being asked and the shouts for him to stop, Dr. Blood ignored the group no longer feeling it necessary to talk to them. Without a second glance he would chop off the males left arm in one fluid motion ignoring the limb as it fell from the table to the ground. Grabbing onto a set of tubes he placed them around major veins and arteries to collect the blood, attaching the other end into the machine. A scream echoed through the mostly empty room as subject four paled at the site of what he had done, little did she know she was in far worse shape. Repeating the process for the other arm and both legs, Blood moved to the torso of the man making an incision between the ribs on his left side. Slipping a tube into the males lung he smiled and nodded stepping back from his work. Before leaving the area completely he hooked the male up to similar monitors the others were attached too. This would allow Dr. Blood to monitor the males vitals from his desk as well as control the intake of oxygen the male received.
Upon returning to his desk, the man realized he had forgotten to make a wall to block the male from seeing what had been done. Taking two steps back towards the laboratory he paused. Turning to make a note on the clipboard that had been placed on his desk he decided to test the males mental capacity to accept the situation he found himself in. After the note had been jotted down he made his way back to the group of four. After a few moments of screams he looked at Subject four's vitals and frowned. It really was doing rather badly and the fight was fading, it would be cruel to allow it to fight much longer on its own. Disconnecting it from the others he wheeled it back into the holding room, in doing so caused four to see the extent of its friends bodies that couldn't be seen otherwise.
"Your a monster!" It cried out weakly eyes locking on the organs that had been removed from the bodies of the others. They had been suspended above their frames and connected to artificial tubes that allowed the blood to run and mix together in what looked to be a large artificial heart. None of the bodies had a heart of their own, just small individual artificial once that looked as if they could be connected to one another. Stopping inside the holding room Dr. Blood placed her close to the same wall he had placed the new subject by before moving back into the lab to close the gap and readjust the others to make room for new candidates.
When he had come back into the holding room four had removed the makeshift wall and lay staring at her own organs that had been suspended just like the others. Tsking softly as he moved to a small table and picked up a sterile syringe as well as a bottle. "It is a sedative. You will fall into a deep sleep and it will all be over. No more laboratory, no more pain. Just eternal sleep." As he spoke his voice was soothing, as if trying to keep subject four from harming itself. When it made no move to stop him or beg for its life he simply added the sedative to the tubes that moved blood through it's body. As soon as it slipped from consciousness he began taking the tubes apart ignoring the blood that squirted out. When the blood loss had taken subject fours life he moved to his desk and pressed a button on the intercom system that had been placed.
"We have another in need of disposing. I also have visitors coming and I will need both reception rooms ready. Refreshments need to be placed as well as a table for me to work at." When a grunt sounded back in confirmation Dr. Blood sat down returning to his work. An hour passed and the owner of the grunt limped into view, the man stood with a hunch with one leg slightly longer than the other. His face had been horribly disfigured, his lips had been cut off and sewn together leaving the male with no mouth; his jaw had been crushed to stop him from speaking but his eyes remained clear. This work however was not that of the doctors, no this work was that of another leaving the doctor to fix him up as thoroughly as possible without causing more damage. over the years the male had learned to work with Blood moving bodies for disposal and caring for the upper levels of the castle. Never staying in sight of others when Blood invited them over.
Taking the body from the room on the gurney he once again disappeared, leaving the good doctor to his work. Looking up at the newest member as he woke up slowly, Blood debated moving towards him only to resume sitting at his desk to watch his reaction without the need for calming. The screams rang out like clockwork as the subject realized what had been done, it tried to rip the tubing out only to learn it's arms and legs had gone missing. A shout resignated throughout the lab only being answered by the three that remained of the small group.
"Don't move, just don't fight it you only make it worse!"
"Try and remain calm..the more you scream the faster he will come back and he could make it worse. Just please, calm down."
"H-How long have you been here?" The new subject piped up asking the others only to be met with silence. "Hey?!" It shouted again.
"We don't know!" One of them shouted back, Blood didn't pay attention to the conversations uncaring of what they spoke of at the moment. Moving to stand from his desk he turned and walked back out of the laboratory keeping the vitals synced up on his phone. It was something his assistant had rigged up for him, he could keep a close eye on not only their vitals but also the laboratory itself. He had cameras placed around the room that synched with his phone and screens up on the second level of the castle. Climbing up the steps once more he moved through the castle in search of the very man who had disposed of subject four's body.
"Stuart, I need you to go clean up the laboratory for me. The arms and legs could pose a threat, oh and don't feed the subjects this time." When the male grunted moving out into the hallway Dr. Blood nodded and glanced down at his bloodied watch. "Mop up the blood as well, the lap needs to be presentable to our guests." moving to walk away once more he paused and turned to face the deformed man once more. "I will also need you to remain in the laboratory tomorrow during the 'interview' process. The messes need to be cleaned right away, I am also going to need disposable gowns to cover the clothes I will be wearing. There will be no time to change if I get a bit bloodied." When he had finished speaking the male grunted again and walked towards the stairs to the lab where he would begin cleaning up.
The rest of the day was an uneventful one, Dr. Blood resumed watching his subjects closely making adjustments as needed to Subject 13 as it adjusted. Lowering the oxygen levels to the male he set up a tent around the table it rested on. The tent was there for one reason: to control oxygen intakes that were not on schedule. The sides were clear and easy to see through for both Blood and the others that were around the subject. The reaction of the others had caused him to jot down extra note pertaining to how they interacted. All four subjects in the lab seemed to support one another and keep them going. The human mind was an odd thing to Blood. So determined to make the body survive even when there was nothing to survive for.
The night was equally uneventful leaving Dr. Blood to retire to his bed for a decent night sleep, however sleep did not come, the excitement of new subjects arriving the next day was too much to allow his mind to calm. Stuart began to shuffle around the castle not long after sunrise Rousing Blood from his own bed. Finding a large container for used scrubs and an equally large pile of disposable scrubs on a table next to the container he smiled and lifted them both up easily taking them down into the lab in the holding room where he could easily slip them on over his clothes. He didn't like the idea of wearing a suite during the processing of the new arrivals and them having to wear it into the lab so once he made his way back into his bedroom he settled on a fresh set of work clothes. Black slacks, a black t-shirt and black boots covered his frame. The White lab coat had been set out on his bed while he showered. The thick black apron he would wear in the lab hung on a peg in the holding rooms changing area.
Hours after everything had been set up to perfection the others began to arrive. The first was a young recently married woman and her husband. Both had agreed to join in a study of married couples. The next small group were all potential 'assistants.' Taking the couple into the room to his right, he came back to the small group and lead them into the left room. Stuart slipped into the hallway while it was empty and set up signs to filter them out. Study participants to the right, Assistant applicants to the left. The idea was simple, keep them separated until it was too late to know other wise. Having no other way in or out of the rooms they had been filtered in Dr. Blood made sure he sat within eyesight of both doors. His own work station having been set up in the hallway between the two rooms.
Once everyone who was expected had arrived he got to work handing out numbers to everyone in each room. Starting with the 'study participants' he began calling each person by number he would do a complete physical explaining he needed everyone who is participating to be in good overall health. Blood and urine tests were taken and one by one they were sent back into the reception hall they had come from. Stuart would then come collect the samples and make his way into the lab to run the tests while Dr. Blood continued with the next reception room. Once more calling them out by number one by one. The applicants got a similar reasoning to the physical, he couldn't employ someone who wasn't physically sound, there were extraneous things that would need to be done and if one was ill in anyway they could not carry out the job.
After all the samples had been collected and sent down to be tested Dr. Blood filtered everyone into the same room. Mentioning only briefly that there would be no numbers to conflict and when they were ready someone would be in and take them where it was determined they would go. Having said his peace he left the room abruptly and locked the doors behind him. Making his way down into the laboratory where Stuart had been running tests he began looking over the ones that were completed. The married could drew his attention rather quickly.
"Pregnant Stuart? Are you positive?" He asked looking at the male, when he got a grunt in the positive and two taps to the tabletop he was working at Dr. Blood smiled and pressed the button on the intercom. "Gretah I need you to escort numbers one and two down to me. They will be accepted into the program."
"Yes sir, right away sir." The nasally overly excited voice answered back. The sound of it made his wish he had removed her vocal cords before saving her life, but then he would remember he needed someone capable to speak other than himself. Letting out a sigh he let the button go causing the line to go dead. Moving into the holding room he slipped into the scrubs that had recently been purchased for him. By the time he had returned with the lab coat slipped over one arm, the elevator doors dinged and opened. Three people stepped out, the first was Gretah, a red haired woman who looked just as misshapen as Stuart had been the only difference being she still had a mouth to speak with, and she was missing one eye where Stuart missed none. The couple stepped out behind her following her with quick glances of pity, at least until they spotted the doctor slipping on his lab coat over his scrubs.
"Dr. Bloodnovski! We want to thank you for the opportunity to contribute to your work." The male said extending his hand out only to have it intercepted by Gretah.
"Oh, he doesn't like to be touched unless he initiates it." She said and gave off a small giggle before escorting them both into the holding rooms. Settling them both into comfortable chairs she made her leave.
"I am going to give you a mild sedative to calm any nervousness you may have, I need you completely relaxed for this to work. It will not take long." He explained pulling out two syringes from his pocket. Slipping the needle into the males arm he injected the sedative in before moving to the woman. When they were both completely out he moved them from the chairs to gurney that had been brought in from the Laboratory. Once they were both restrained he made his way into the lab and began to work. Removing the lab coat and hanging it on a peg right outside of the blocked off room he wheeled them into, he shut the door behind him. Placing them on the two tables that stood next to each other, he began sawing off the right arm of the woman, keeping her heavily sedated and well supplied with blood to keep the infant alive. Clamping the arteries closed he would then turn and work on sawing the left arm of the man off. This one was less sedated and woke up halfway through the procedure.
The screams echoed through the lab arousing the others that had been placed previously in there. When silence finally settled Dr. Blood checked the vitals of both subjects happy to see they were doing fine, subject one had a slightly elevated heart rate but was otherwise adapting nicely to the operation. When everything had been clamped off he called Stuart in to help him finish the job. In order to save the fetus that was growing in the woman's womb, time was of the essence to finish the job. Cutting open the sides from their arm to their waist he removed any and all unnecessary organs before sewing them up together. Wrapping gauze around the wounds he double checked both his and Stewart's stitches. After approving he placed both on monitors just like the others were on. Vitals immediately began recording and logging themselves onto the computer monitor at his desk.
Washing his hands and swapping out into a new pair of scrubs he looked to Stuart and nodded once before slipping on the labcoat he had hung on the wall. Stuart sorted through the charts finding the next subject to be brought down. Handing the doctor a small stack of ten files Stuart moved back to his place to resume testing the blood of the remaining people. A smile crossed Blood's features as he looked over the charts, each one fit perfectly with the other two. Looking over at the area they would be kept he spotted subject two still alive however faintly it might have been.
"Stuart, I am going to need you to take the body from the lab when Subject two passess." He ordered moving to sedate her before he unhooked her from the others. Wheeling the gurney over to a far wall out of sight he covered her body with a sheet up to her shoulders. Her pulse was thready and her skin was a greyish blue color. Any moment she would slip from this world onto the next and her spot would be wholly available for claim. Making his way back to his desk and the files he called up to Gretah telling her which numbers to bring down next and in what order. When they were brought down, one of them had been among the assistant applications.
"I need you to get these people comfortable, keep them calm and help them if needed when they change from their clothes into these." He stated rather coldly setting the gowns on a table in front of him. Glancing at his file once more he tisked. "I will also need you in one as well, there are a few more tests to be done before you can continue." When the male nodded and did as told Blood moved to check on Subject two. Her pulse was weaker than before but still beating, tsking and shaking his head he moved to stand by her head placing one hand on either side of her skull he looked almost sad to have to do what he was about to do, but the emotion passed and he was once again completely professional. Twisting her head to one side swiftly he was greeted with a snap. Her pulse had stopped as had her breathing. Moving back into the holding room to see everyone was getting situated he took the first two onto the floor laying them on gurneys and blindfolding them. Restraining them he explained that part of the experiment was that they could not see their surroundings past their fellow mates. Wheeling them to the far corner where the space for the twelve resided. Placing both in their places he began to hook them up to the machines. Placing an IV in each arm that allowed medications to be administered through the lines as well as any saline. Jotting down a list of things to do for Stuart he made his way back to bring over the next two. Repeating the same process until the only one left was the assistant applicant, he sedated the male and placed him in the final open spot making sure all machines were connecting to the monitors in the correct numerical order.
The laboratory remained fairly silent as he worked, none of the others had screamed or tried to warn the new subjects of the impending situation. On asking Stuart he was answered with a simple shrug and a point to the monitors. They had either been sedated by the doctor himself or the medications had kicked in causing the others to feel drowsy. When Gretah brought down the next three subjects he found it easier to settle them in. Having them change into a pair of scrubs each he escorted them into a small room with clear thick glass walls. Leaving them to sit on a bench without another word he moved to greet the next subject.
Having her rid herself of any and all electrical devices and jewelry he lead her towards a tank that had been surrounded by a thick black curtain. Instructing her to climb up and into the tank. It was simple holding a small cot in which she could sleep on and not much else. Walking away from her and towards the desk once more. Three more files lay on his desk in the good pile while the rest sat in the rejected.
"What is wrong with them?" He mused aloud and looked through each file noting each ailment and frowned. Spring Valley was not kind to these people, disease and malnutrition. Shaking his head he tossed them off to one side and began to scan through the last three files silently trying to place them in his lab. Calling Gretah to bring them down he killed the line once more and waited. When they appeared before him on the elevator he smiled as pleasantly as he could even as a scream emitted from the girl in the tank as water began to fill it.
"I do apologize, but you are all here to be an assistant no? And some of my patients are not well." Handing them a gown he smiled again, "Please change into these we have a few more tests to run on you before we can continue on with the application process. The others have been processed and set to work already. The sooner you change the sooner we can get this out of the way." He added pointing the two women and the man towards the holding rooms changing areas. Stepping back to his desk he looked at the monitor inside the tank that had begun to fill with water. Pushing the button for the speakers in the tank he spoke once more. "I do suggest trying to stay calm, the more you panic the more worn you will be. We do not wish to see you drown." Another scream sounded out as the water grew higher making her tread in place to stay above it.
When the other three stepped out he looked at the male and smiled. "If you would follow me please." He asked walking towards the lab, a thick black curtain covered half of the lab that was occupied by the more gory of the experiments.
Pulling out a chair he asked the male to sit, when he showed to be reluctant Blood explained it was part of an endurance test and the male nodded taking his seat only to be strapped in unable to move. Wheeling him back towards a machine that would electrocute the male Blood smiled. "You will not be attached to this all the time, there will be a time, when you adapt to the current where you can walk around in there." He pointed to a large metal and glass chamber. When the male opened his mouth to scream Blood stuffed a gag into his mouth and tisked. "Not yet, I have two more subjects to place before you can scream." He muttered and walked away towards the holding room once more.
Looking at the shorter of the two women he crooked a finger at her and made her follow him into the lab blocking her view of the other man she had walked down with. Asking her to climb into a sensory deprivation tank he explained to her as well it was a test of endurance, and that she would not be in the tank for very long. She agreed and climbed in getting comfortable. When the lid closed he made sure to latch and lock it to keep the snakes from escaping. Once happy her vitals were on the monitor he moved to collect the last woman.
Having her lay on a gurney he wheeled her out onto the floor of the laboratory after giving her a mild sedative to relax her. Transferring her from the gurney to a steel table he places a pillow under her head and strapped her arms over her head before moving to strap her feet down on the other end.
"What are you doing?" She asked barely audible.
"I am making sure you don't move. Don't worry dear girl, you shouldn't feel a thing and every penny promised will go to your family as well as compensation for your service. Now please, rest." He spoke patting her upper thigh absently. Moving around the room to engage each and every machine needed to conduct his experiments he began taking down a few notes. Setting the clipboard on a near by table he pulled out a recorder and began to speak.
"Today is day four of the Galaxy experiment. Subjects Three and Seven are once more surrounded by an entire pod. All looking and adapting well to stage one, no struggling was involved. Subjects One and Two are awake and alert, no screaming as of yet. Vitals are stable, baby seems to be doing fine." Turning his back to move on he ignored the sudden screams of Subject One demanding he come back and explain. "I have spoken too soon, Subject one seems eager to fight. This could pose catastrophic to both Subjects Two and Subject B." At his words the male fell silent and stopped moving begging his wife to forgive him. "Subject Thirteen is doing well, and seems ready to begin stage two." Stopping outside the large container that held three in it he smiled. So far they hadn't seen anything except for his desk and the others who had past him. The curtain surrounding the glass had yet to be pulled. "Exposing Subjects Sixteen, Seventeen and Eighteen now."
When the curtain raised up and out of view the three nearly screamed seeing the horrors before them. Friends, even colleagues they had come in with were now mutilated or trapped. This caused them to begin shouting which had no effect as the box had been sound proofed to avoid them being heard or anyone hearing them outside of the intercom system he had placed within the box.
"Subject Eighteen is now trying to break the glass with his bare hands, I will need to sedate and bandage that at a later date once he has calmed. Engaging Subject Twenty-Two now." Pressing down on a button he watched as two sharp blades the length of the table shot down at a blinding speed separating her chest torso and legs from each other. Watching as she seemed to be unaware of what had happened he moved on keeping a close eye on her vital signs. "Subject Nineteen is doing swimmingly. Currently treading water and has been for an impressive seven minutes. Subject Twenty-One has begun his tests Starting at the lowest setting of 25 Volts." Looking over to the Sensory Deprivation tank he could hear muffled screams. Flipping on a large plasma screen he watche the girl on the box. Seeing a large snake slide over her stomach he smiled slightly hitting the button to record once more. "Subject Twenty is holding up well and will soon get the snakes removed." Grabbing the clipboard from the table once more he added a new note for Stuart before moving to give him the paper.
"I need these done as soon as possible and take the body over there out with the others please." He muttered before moving into the elevator once more. Stepping out on the main floor he opened the doors to the meeting room and looked at the five people who had been left. "You can all leave, we have found everyone we need."
"But what about me?" A young woman asked, the same young woman from the night before whom he had first interacted with.
"Dear girl, you did not pass the physical requirements for the position. I can send you to someone far outside of the Dead City who would take you on as an apprentice but the money would not follow you." When she shook her head and spoke of simply staying home he nodded handing each of them an envelope of money. "For your time, as promised you have been compensated. Please follow me to the doors and home you go. You have five minutes to get off the property before I reset the security system and you are killed. Good day." Once the path was cleared of people he reset the system and heard the faint cry of pain as a straggler had been caught in the crosshairs of the security system.
Making his way to his bedroom he swiftly changed from the disposable scrubs and into his usual work clothes before making his way back into the laboratory to watch the monitors. It would be a while yet before he could move the larger group into the first stage, and the others were being monitored as they adapted as well. Soon, his laboratory would be busy once again. Perhaps this time he would find other investors to come and see his work. Other investors outside of Xardon La Rouge-Sharpe. More investors meant more funding and more funding meant he could expand into bigger experiments, better equipment and better security. Who would not speak of what happened in the laboratory.
