Chapter 6: Misunderstanding
"One more outfit."
I nodded and quickly changed into the last outfit. It was by far, my favorite. This was the first of my hundreds of offers for magazines, fashion shows, posters etc. When it came to modeling, I decided that my main campaign purpose would be body positivity, because even if people don't think it, they're perfect.
"Good, good, last picture." The photographer assured looking up from their camera for maybe 3 seconds before bending over it again.
I switched positions once again, my legs becoming sore for standing for so long. Once the flash went off signifying that the last picture was taken, I stood up straight and stretched out my back. Within seconds of the last picture I was surrounded by people.
"Water, miss?"
"You did great today."
"You'll be on the front page."
I blinked a few times, I was overwhelmed, and none of my friends were here to 'whelm' me today.
"Water would be great. Thank you. And I can't wait." I answered quickly, pushing my way through the wall of people so I could get to my bag- which held my comfortable clothes.
The assistant came along with a bottle of water and I thanked her. I grabbed my phone and gasped. 9 missed calls from 'Goddess of the Hunt' that was Artemis, you know she was named after the goddess from Greek mythology, the one who was really handy with a bow. I quickly called her, slipping on my necklace, forgetting about the fact that I was still in my modeling clothes. They let me keep anything I wanted anyways, nice people.
"Where were you!" Artemis screeched over the phone, I pulled it away from before ear before sighing, walking towards the nearest zeta tube.
"I had a modeling job today, remember?"
"That's no excuse! M'gann is out with Conner, I need you here! Right now!"
"Alright, what's wrong?"
"I-I-I'll tell you when you get here." She said before hanging up. I looked up at my phone strangely, as if it were Artemis.
A woman stopped me on the sidewalk. She had vibrant blue hair, so blue that I couldn't look directly at it. She was wearing makeup that seemed a bit excessive for a daytime look, and (presumably) fake cat eye diamond glasses. Behind all that I could see she was a good person.
"Excuse me, are you (Y/n) (L/n)?"
I gave her a look, despite me thinking she was a good person, Blüdhaven wasn't the nicest of places, I put my hand behind my back, fire sparking in it.
"Depends who's asking."
"I'm Mina Grafey (You can change it if that's your name), I own a recording studio," she shook my hand aggressively, "I've heard good things about you. Genius, model, future professor, rising singer. You're the (Y/n) (L/n). Would you mind coming down this weekend, say Saturday at noon?"
"Yeah," I replied quickly, making sure to avoid eye contact with her hair. Artemis could be in major trouble, I didn't have time to chit chat. She gave me her card and left.
I continued walking along the sidewalk, purpose showing in every step, my heels clicking on the concrete. I got to the zeta tube, quickly typing in the coordinates for Central City.
After the familiar tingly feeling had washed over me I hailed a taxi, giving them Artemis and Wally's address. You could actually trust the cab drivers here, you had to be a bit more careful in Gotham and Blüdhaven. When we arrived I gave the driver a wad of cash.
"Keep the change."
I ran up to the house, unlocking the door with my spare key and letting myself in. There didn't seem to be anything wrong right away, everything was in order as it usually was.
"Artemis," I called.
She ran out of the bedroom, her blonde hair a mess, panic set on her usually calm features.
"Thank God you're he- what are you wearing?"
"I came from modeling. I told this this over the phone."
"Right, anyways, Wally is at the store getting groceries and I just-" she broke off with a sob.
"Artemis?"
"I'm l-late this month a-and I think I'm-"
A look of realization dawned on my face as I gave her a quick hug.
"This is amazing! Let me run to the store and get you a test."
I ran back out the door, making sure it shut behind me. I decided to walk since the store was close. People saw me and whispered excitedly, luckily none of them confronted me, I didn't need any other set backs.
When I arrived at the store I made my way through the endless aisles. I grabbed a basket on my way in so I wouldn't have to carry everything. I found the tests and put three of the better ones into the basket. when I was walking to the checkout I ran into someone, causing the contents of my basket to scatter.
"I'm so sorry- (Y/n)?"
My head snapped up, shoot, it was Wally.
"Wally, hey! What's up?" I asked awkwardly.
He picked up one of the tests, looking at me with wide eyes, putting it back in my basket, in a dazed state.
"Are you- Did you and Dick-"
I flushed red, I wanted to yell at him that the tests were for Artemis, and that we in fact hadn't. I held back, reminding myself that this was for Artemis, take one for the team. Well, two technically, since Wally was going to kill Dick.
"Yes! I am, totally me, 19 and pregnant! I came here to talk to Artemis about it! Bye Wally!"
I ran to the self checkout, I didn't need cashiers looking at me weirdly too, not only that but I doubt they'd keep a secret, I didn't want rumors spreading that I was pregnant, although Wally couldn't keep a secret either.
***************
Once I arrived back at the house I gave the tests to Artemis who sprinted into the bathroom. Around 10 minutes later she walked back out, one of the three tests in her shaky hand.
"Artemis?" I walked forward and pried the test from her hand. Two lines. "Oh...My...God."
"What am I going to do? What if Wally isn't happy? How am I going to deal with two speedsters?"
"Don't think like that," I smacked her arm, "He loves you Artemis! You've been married for a year! And he loves kids!"
Wally speeded through the door, dropping the groceries on the counter. He stopped in front of me, his intense gaze unwavering from my feeble one.
"He shouldn't be so confident, you can very easily kick his butt." B.E.M snorted.
"How could you be so irresponsible? You're nineteen! I swear-"
"Baywatch!" Artemis yelled over him, "She's not pregnant... I am."
Wally blinked, looking at his wife, then her stomach. A wide grin dominating his freckled face.
"This is awesome! No more missions for you though! And I'm glad that (Y/n) isn't- Oh crap!"
I gave him a look, "What did you do Wally?"
I got my answer when an out of breath, Dick Grayson, barged through the front door. I glared at Wally, I knew he wouldn't keep his mouth shut.
"Listen (Y/n), we can get through this. We have the league, and the team, not only that but we're making good money and-"
"Dick!" I shouted, a tone of annoyance evident in my voice, "I'm not pregnant, Artemis is."
Dick looked at me and Artemis, then back to me. He smiled sheepishly, seeming to remember what we hadn't done.
"I'm sorry, what? I ran to the nearest zeta tube from work, then I ran here! Do you have any idea how busy it is right now?"
