Chapter 8

"I would never break a promise I gave to you."

It was the whole week. The whole week passed since Amelia left for New York, along with a few of her warrior trainees and Camila never felt this weird. The whole week she tried to explain her feelings to herself and every time failed miserably.

She knew the vampire woman for a day. One day was enough to completely change her.

Camila simply couldn't sleep. She knew that Amelia went to New York to fight. Although she didn't verbally confirm it, she didn't deny it too. And Camila was worried.

She wanted to know how they were doing but she had no one to ask. Her cousin Damien closed himself in the office and when he wasn't in the main building, he was outside, on the field. She didn't even get a chance to ask him anything.

Camila also knew Kaley noticed her strange behavior. In more than one occasion, her cousin looked at her as if she was going crazy. But she couldn't help herself. So Camila did the only thing she could think of. She focused her attention on getting to know the complex and all of its hidden places during the daytime. And boy did they explore it.

Of course, Kaley decided to join her and after a week of going on long walks all over the place, they were finally comfortable enough to get out in the night time. Just as Amelia said.

Amelia, Amelia, Amelia.

The only name Camila was capable to think of. Even now, when she was laying in her bed, not being able to find a comfortable position.

"Stop moving around," she heard a very annoyed voice beside her.

It was Kaley.

"Why are you awake?" she asked.

"Because you're noisy and I can't sleep."

Camila adjusted a little more and the light next to her bed suddenly went on. Now, she could see Kaley's annoyed face too.

"Look, be quiet and I promise I'll talk to Damien tomorrow and I'll ask him how's Amelia doing, okay? But I need you to stop making noises," the woman said to her.

Camila made an "I don't know what you're talking about" face.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Kaley almost smiled.

"Oh, C'mon, let's not lie to each other, shall we?" she replied.

The singer groaned in displeasure.

"I can't sleep."

Kaley sat down next to her and ran her fingers through her hair.

"Because you're worried about your dream girl. But you don't have to. Amelia is capable to take care of herself."

At this statement, Camila pushed Kaley's shoulder.

"Stop," she said. "This has nothing to do with Amelia but with our staying in this fucking complex. It completely messed up my lifestyle."

Kaley just looked at her knowingly but didn't comment anything. Instead, she got up and offered her hand to Camila.

"What?"

"If I'm not wrong, it's their meal time. Do you want to go? We could join them and maybe we'll be lucky enough to meet Damien," she said.

Camila looked at her as if she had gone crazy.

"It's four thirty a.m."

Kaley just smirked.

"So what?" she asked nonchalantly. "You said it yourself. We're now living with a bunch of vampires. Why not pretend we're one of them?"

Although Camila was convinced her cousin was a crazy person, she actually started to consider her idea. They were indeed inside a vampire complex and her lifestyle was already messed up so why no to mess it up a little more?

So, half an hour later, they were both standing in front of the dining hall next to the blue coven's main building. They were properly dressed and ready to join their hosts.

"You ready?" Kaley asked with a little bit of excitement in her voice.

Camila was nervous. This was their first time to eat here.

"Do you think any other human would be in there?"

"Doubt it," Kaley answered. "It's five a.m. We're the only ones crazy enough to do this. All the normal people are sleeping."

Camila looked at her.

"Speak for yourself," she said.

Kaley chuckled and then opened the door. They entered the dining hall and there were blue eyes all over the place. They were sitting in groups, engaged in conversation. It was pretty loud and it was definitely the first thing Camila noticed.

She could hear laughing, talking, joking and every other conversation gestures.

They were standing in place for a couple of moments and then, Camila felt a body behind her. A hand found its way on her lower back.

"What a pretty girls," a voice said, very close to her ear. "What are you doing here alone?"

She turned around and finally could connect a voice to a face. It was Frank. There was no doubt. The vampire man looked at them with a big smirk and something strange in his eyes. Camila instantly remembered what Amelia had said to her.

"Stay away from Frank and I'll make sure he stays away from you as well."

Her hand still didn't move from her back so she decided to do it herself. She took a step back, towards Kaley.

"Do you girls maybe need some company? My table is free," he said.

She really had a strange feeling about him.

"Umm," she started but didn't manage to finish because the other voice stopped her.

"I'm taking over here, Frank."

Camila looked to her right and saw Damien standing there with his arms crossed over his chest. His face was serious and somewhat hard. He looked mad.

Frank moved a little back.

"I was just having a chat with them and asked them to join me," he explained.

Camila wondered why he had a need to explain his actions to Damien but one look at Amelia's cousin's face said everything. Damien was not even a little pleased.

"I told you I'm taking over," he said more firmly. "You can go to your table now."

Frank didn't protest. He just raised his hands in surrender and once more looked at Camila.

"Too bad. My table is the party table."

Damien cleared his throat. That was enough for him to finally move away. Damien's eyes were following him and then focused on the two of them. He smiled and Camila noticed his whole facial expression changed. He looked more friendly and inviting.

"What are you two doing here at this hour? If I'm not wrong, it's still pretty early for humans to be awake," he asked.

Camila saw Kaley giving Damien a wide smile.

"This one couldn't sleep and decided to deprive me of sleeping too, so I at least wanted to get something to eat," she explained while Camila, as usual, stayed quiet. "Do you mind if we join you? I mean, you're after all our guardian now."

Damien laughed out loud.

"Only during Amelia's absence but sure," he replied and pointed his finger towards his table. It was empty. "I'd love to have some company during our last meal for tonight."

They all went to his table. Damien only waved his hand and one of the vampire women immediately approached them.

"Hey, can you please bring two meals for them?"

She smiled.

"Having new company, Damien?" she asked in a little teasing voice which made Camila smile.

"Yeah, I have to keep an eye on them until Amelia gets back from New York," he replied.

Her eyes widened.

"Oh, Amelia's people," she said. "I'll bring food right now. I wouldn't want to disappoint my favorite girl."

Damien laughed and rolled his eyes as the woman left their table. Camila looked at him with great interest.

"I'm pretty sure Amelia is her crush," he answered and her eyebrows lifted up in curiosity.

"Really?"

He shook his head.

"Yeah. I mean, probably every girl inside this complex has a small crush on her. It's amazing what she can do with just one look at someone's direction. Too bad she's so into all this warrior's shit to notice that."

Kaley laughed at his last remark.

"I'm sure she's more than aware of her good-looking," she replied.

The vampire looked at her and gave her a small smile. Camila was certain she saw something more behind it.

"Well, you could saw it for yourself," he said. "The way she responded when you flirted with her back when we were on the bus for Hot Springs."

Camila's eyes widened as she looked at Kaley in disbelief. She actually went through with it? She flirted with Amelia? How come then she told her she wasn't interested in her?

"What?" she asked in a high pitched voice.

In the meantime, their food arrived and Kaley just took the fork. Camila had to admit these eggs on the plate looked really good.

"It was hardly flirting," she replied, trying to defend herself. "I was just messing with her because I saw she was feeling a little uncomfortable. I wanted to see her reaction to my teasing."

Damien rose his eyebrows. Camila wondered what he was thinking about.

"She was traumatized," he said and continued to eat his meal.

Suddenly, they heard coughing behind them.

"Do you mind if I join you?"

Camila turned in the direction of the voice and saw Janus. The vampire leader stood there with a big smile on his face and his hands behind his back. He was waiting for their answer.

"Oh, hey dad," Damien greeted his father. "I didn't expect you to come so I found myself another company. These are Camila and Kaley. Amelia's people."

The older version of Damien only smiled warmly and offered his hand in greeting.

"I know who they are, but I don't think we officially met," he said as Camila accepted his hand and shook it. "I'm Janus, Damien's father, and Amelia's uncle."

"The leader of all this," Kaley said and smiled.

Janus looked at her.

"I'm Camila Reyes, very nice to meet you," Camila introduced herself. "This is Kaley, my cousin."

"Dad, please, join us," Damien said and made some room for him.

After a short introduction, they all sat down and one of the women immediately brought Janus's meal.

Kaley swallowed a bit of food and then looked at Damien again.

"I wanted to ask you how's Amelia doing? She's in New York for quite a time now," she said.

Both men raised their heads and Camila only hoped Kaley didn't cross the line here. Amelia wasn't interested in discussing her "trip" to New York and she was sure the Damien and Janus were even less interested in it.

"Are you two hanging out with her?" Janus asked, his face showing confusion over their interest in Amelia.

"No," Camila answered quickly. "On our first night here, we ran into her and she offered to take us to our house because it was already pretty late. Then she told us she's heading for New York and Kaley is just curious."

Damien exchanged glances with Janus. Camila didn't know what to think of it.

"Well, as much as I know, she's fine," Damien replied. "They had to help a group of our people who are living there and she took newbies with her so she could show them what's a real warrior's job."

Now was Camila's and Kaley's turn to exchange glances. They both knew what this actually meant. They went out there to fight. Not that they needed any other confirmation because Amelia's actions said it all but Damien and Janus were clear with their hesitating to tell them the truth. To be completely honest, she didn't expect any less.

"That sounds interesting," Kaley said. "And a little bit dangerous."

Janus only smiled but didn't say anything else. They ate in silence and Camila finally became aware that Amelia's relatives wouldn't share anything about her or the New York thing they had. She decided to give up and only prayed Kaley wouldn't be persistent.

Soon, they started to talk about other things. Janus was very curious about their lives outside of the complex. He had a lot of questions and Camila wanted to find the best way to answer. She also didn't miss looks which were Kaley and Damien exchanging. Damien was a nice person and definitely more talkative than Amelia. Camila liked that. It made her feel much more welcome and at home here in blue coven's complex.

Due to their hanging out, in the next few days, they started to spend more time together. That is, when Damien wasn't too busy with warriors. Amelia took a few trainees who were good at it, with her so he didn't have much work left to do. Warriors went out once for Weeksville in some routine operation which, according to Damien, wasn't dangerous at all.

Camila could notice Kaley's happiness growing every time when Damien joined them for their usual evening walks through the complex. She was sure her cousin had a tiny bit of crush on the vampire. She smiled when she saw her blush because Damien was nothing but sweet and nice to them.

Another week had passed with no sign of Amelia's returning. Camila was now even more worried because whatever they were solving there was probably more dangerous and serious then she thought or knew. Everything in Montana stayed the same. Janus and Damien never talked about it and she could see Amelia calling Damien in more than one occasion but the warrior only took his phone and walked away from them. It was clear that he didn't want them to hear anything.

This particular evening Camila went for a walk alone. Damien had to solve something and Kaley just wasn't up to it. She knew her unwillingness was the result of Damien not coming too.

She decided to take the route through the park. It was around eight p.m. but it was pretty dark although there was no clouds or anything like that.

After a couple minutes of walking around, Camila took a break and sat down on one of the swings placed near the path. She looked around.

There were a few other people or vampires running around. A few blue eyes were training down the path, on the open space gym her mother mentioned when they first came here. Whenever they would pass by it, Camila imagined Amelia working out on one of these exercise equipment they had there.

She noticed how her thoughts were often running in Amelia's direction and for once in her lifetime, Camila was grateful for the lack of paparazzi running around there. She was sure they would immediately saw right through her and then she would have a big PR problem. Camila was particularly grateful for the opportunity to be only her. Only Camila Reyes, a normal person, not Camila Reyes, a famous pop star. No matter how much she loved her fans and the ability to make music, she was fed up with that lifestyle. Constant worries about whether would someone find out about something she didn't want them to know. Especially when it comes to her appreciation of female gender.

"Camila!" a voice calling her name snapped her out of her thoughts.

A very familiar voice.

She turned around and saw Amelia walking in her direction. Her eyes widened.

Her guardian came home. Finally. Amelia was again in Montana.

Camila got up from the swing and started to approach her so they stopped in the middle of the grass, not so far away from the path.

"Hey, you're back," she said. It was the only thing she could say at that moment.

Amelia wasn't smiling. Contrary to that, her facial expression was serious and her hands were behind her back. She wore her usual outfit. Black sweater, leather pants and there was waist belt full of weapon around her waist. When Camila finally raised her eyes on her face, she saw big cut over her left eyebrow.

"You have a pretty nasty cut over there," she said with a small smile.

"Yeah," Amelia replied. "We had a lot of things to take care of and it was even worse before. It should disappear soon though."

"When did you came back?" Camila asked.

Amelia scratched the back of her neck.

"Last night," she replied. "Listen, can you bring Lucas to the horse stall behind the main building?"

Camila furrowed her eyebrows for a little before it hit her. Before she left for New York, Amelia did promise her brother to introduce him to her horse.

"Umm, it's eight o'clock but I don't think it'll be a problem to bring him."

Amelia smiled for the first time.

"Great. Umm, I have to go to Janus real quick but we could meet there in half an hour? Will this be okay?" she asked.

Camila smiled back.

"Sure, see you soon."

The warrior just nodded and then left in the other direction. Camila looked at her until she disappeared from sight and then her lips spread in a wide smile. She almost started to jump up and down out of happiness for having Amelia back in the complex. She simply couldn't explain this to herself.

Then, she decided to hurry to her house so she could get Lucas and go to a horse stall. She broke through the door, yelling her brother's name.

"What happened?" Maria said when she ran to the door with a worried facial expression.

Camila looked towards the stairs until she saw Lucas almost flying down.

"C'mon, Amelia's back and she wants to see you," she said.

Kaley ran after the boy who squealed excitedly and immediately started to pull his jacket on.

"What on Earth is going on?" her cousin asked.

Camila just narrowed her eyes.

"You knew?"

"Knew what?" Kaley asked, confused.

"Did you know Amelia got back?" Camila clarified. "Damien already told you, didn't he? What didn't you tell me?"

Kaley raised both hands in the air.

"She's back?" she asked. "I had no idea. I haven't heard from him since yesterday evening. He was busy with something. Probably discussing everything they did in New York."

Camila observed Kaley. The other woman seemed sincere.

"How do you know she's back?"

Camila struggled with containing her excitement. For the millionth time since they got in this complex, she couldn't explain the feeling she got when she thought about the blue-eyed warrior.

"I ran into her in the park and she asked me to bring Luke to horse stall," she explained as Kaley's lips spread into a wide green while she wiggled her eyebrows.

"Cami, I'm ready, let's go," Lucas interrupted them, pulling his hat on.

"Wait, wait, wait," her mother meddled in. "Where are you two going? What's going on? Don't you think it's a little too late for him to go out?"

Camila squeezed her eyes. Damn it. She should've known what was going to happen when her mother would hear about them going to horse stall.

"Mom, I've already told Kaley everything and you've heard it," she said, looking at her with pleading eyes. "Please, just let him go. He really wants to meet that horse and Amelia is finally home so she can introduce them. Please."

Maria just looked at them suspiciously, before she sighed and nodded her head. Now, Camila was the one who squealed.

"Thank you," she yelled. "I'll make sure to bring him back before midnight."

With that, she pulled Lucas out, not giving her mother a chance to protest. They hurried down the path. Lucas was literally jumping up and down while walking. Camila had to smile.

"I'm so happy," he said.

She ran her hand through his hair. It didn't take them long to finally reach horse stall. They stopped outside, near the fence which encircled the riding area. Camila looked around an so far, Amelia was nowhere to be seen.

"Where is she?" Lucas asked impatiently.

She shrugged.

"She's probably still with Janus. Don't worry, I'm sure she'll come soon. She asked us to come after all."

After a couple more minutes of waiting, Amelia still didn't show up and Camila started to wonder if she actually imagined all this. Lucas was already very nervous.

"Maybe she's inside. Let's go," he said but she pulled his arm and stopped him from leaving.

"I'm here."

Camila knew that voice. She turned around and saw Amelia approaching them with another vampire. The singer sighed in relief as she observed Amelia's smiling face.

Lucas beamed and ran forward.

"Amelia!" he yelled as his body collided with hers. She immediately crouched and hugged him back. "I thought Cami was messing with me and that you forgot about your promise."

Camila's heart swelled when she saw the vampire hugging her brother protectively.

"I would never break a promise I gave to you."

They both approached Camila. Amelia nodded her head in greeting and Camila did the same.

"Thank you for bringing him. It was about time to finally fulfill my promise," she said.

The other woman smiled shyly, looking at the ground. She feared that Amelia would read her thoughts if she would look at her now.

Soon, Lucas started to pull her sleeve. Camila knew how frustrated he was until now.

According to that, the warrior turned around and only nodded to the other vampire who was standing behind. The guy started to head toward the horse stall.

"Listen," she started, looking at Lucas. "I have a surprise for you. When I was in New York, I thought a lot about you and our last conversation about how much you're missing your horse. So I decided to visit her, just as we made a deal."

Camila wondered where was Amelia heading with this.

"I found her and I can tell she misses you a lot too," she said.

Lucas's whole demeanor changed. Camila saw his shoulders lowered down as he looked at the ground.

"Is she unhappy?" he asked quietly.

"Well," Amelia paused a little. "She was but not anymore."

Camila furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. She didn't understand Amelia's actions.

"Why?" Lucas asked.

The vampire only smiled, showing her white teeth. Camila instinctively looked for the fangs but they weren't there.

"See for yourself," she answered, pointing her hand in the direction of the horse stall.

Both, Camila and Lucas looked to their right and her breath got hitched at the sight of the man leading a white horse towards them. A very familiar white horse.

"Bella!" Lucas literally shouted as he ran ahead.

Camila was unable to speak. Amelia just brought Bella all the way from New York to Montana. Because she wanted to make her brother happy.

She just looked at her and found Amelia's eyes already looking back while she wore a soft smile on her face.

Author's note:

There you guys have it. I'm so happy to announce this is actually the point where this romance story is becoming exactly that. A romance. Amelia and Camila will eventually find their way to get closer but not without a little drama. I'm happy I can focus more on all these sappy and romantic stuff and not so much on the "vampire" side of the story (but this doesn't mean that there's not going to be any paranormal stuff in it anymore).

Anyway, if you liked this chapter please make my day better by hitting the star or leaving a comment.

Next update: I'm not going to available for the entire next weekend but I'll give my best to put chapter 9 up on Friday!

As always, stay true to yourself and have a nice day!
