7: Cadets
"EVERYONE LINE UP NOW!"
A row of people suddenly began to line side by side and in rows in this training gym. They're in their practice gear, ready for the physical training that they have to do today.
Or so, they thought they were ready.
However, upon seeing their Commander moving down the row with a fierce glare that they've never seen him hold onto before, many of them quickly stood up right and even saluted. Clearly, they did not have this expectation from their commander on training. Based on what Andres has heard around upon arriving to the facility, and hush whispers from other members of different branches, Jungkook's emo attitude about not caring for anything is not only a mask he wears outside of work and around his husband.
The recruits came in here today expecting for their commander to not really care for their posture, or much less about their training. They were expecting to be given tasks and be trusted enough to complete them - since after all, they've been doing this for years, they know what to do now. Sure, Andres has their tasks in a file that he must give out to them for them to investigate, after all, they're field agents, informants, but.... Andres won't give it to them.
Not yet.
As Andres scours down the line of people slowly, many from their profiles to which he recognized, he immediately noticed an incredible number of flaws in them.
Manners, that's one.
Masking, that's two.
The main two of being an informant.
Each one has various of things to work on physically. Without manners, no one will take them seriously. If they don't mask their emotions, anyone can discover them just as quickly before they have the chance to open their mouth.
Just because they're informants and have been trained before in their field doesn't mean they're off the hook. As a matter of fact, seems like they've been slacking.
And anyone they set their eyes on would immediately catch onto that quickly.
Andres would know.
He would've killed them on the spot before they give themselves the chance to introduce themselves.
"Seems like you all have been lacking while being on the job, no wonder the agency doesn't give you shit to do," Andres snarls bitterly, eyes snapping to one of the lanky men who was slouching, "STAND UP STRAIGHT CADET!"
Immediately the young guy stands up right, gulping thickly to Andres's sudden bellow. "Y-Yes -"
"YES WHAT?"
"YES SIR!"
That quickly set up the tone in the training room in seconds. Almost everyone who was slouching and standing lazily immediately straightened their posture, cleaning up their act as it processes to them that this was not just about to be another walk in the park. It's about to be like bootcamp all over again.
Andres scowls his eyes over to them, and he honestly cannot believe this is supposed to be South Korea's finest field agents.
His empire would sniff them out so easily at this rate by how predictable they appear to be.
Every single one of the recruits in Andres's empire are first trained by him, always. Andres knows his empire from the palm of his hand and back, and he knows exactly who he needs in it, and he can easily discard away those who are useless to him. He would always make time to train them to perfection, and that meant stripping away by force their civilized humanity to make them into something as close to a monster.
He needs monsters in his empire, someone who won't break so easily, that's what makes his system tough.
From there, they've passed on through Namjoon, who organizes them to which sections they'd be stationed in.
Standing here now in this agency, this would be a great time for Andres to make them weak as well for the sake of helping his fellow empires. However, he's not Andres anymore, he's Jungkook.
And this place needs tougher soldiers.
Thankfully he came at the right time.
"Kim Mingyu, Cha Eunwoo, and Jeong Jaehyun, step up front and center."
Three men emerged from the crowd and stood before Andres with their position upright, making Andres twitch a smirk but hides it back.
"At ease."
The three placed their hands to their back immediately but kept their posture upright while looking ahead, and Andres approaches Mingyu first.
"Kim Mingyu. Grew up with your entire family in the military, martial arts badass with various of skills up your sleeve, served your time as a Marine, and currently work as a sniper for the field agents - to which you have had various of unsuccessful attempts in attacks," Andres remarks, looking at the man dead in the eye, "Seems like you're in the wrong profession. With your skills, hands on deck. You're a ground agent now."
Mingyu's lips parted in shock, but didn't question it as Andres moved to Cha Eunwoo, "Cha Eunwoo, computer science genius, being able to get access to any devices with a simple tap of your fingers. Served in the Navy, and now you're here as a... Weapons specialist?"
Cha Eunwoo blinks at him, slowly nodding, "That's right sir, I'm not a field agent, I prefer working behind the scenes."
"But your skills are far too focused in the scenes. There's no technology or chemical substance that you don't know how to hack or create. You have vivid ability to even identify drugs so easily. You could create a gas bomb in seconds if you felt like it right now, and you're stuck as a weapons specialist?" Andres scoffs and glares at him, "Field agent, time to stop hiding behind the shadows cadet."
Eunwoo bites his tongue, and Andres didn't bother listening to anything more from him as he moves to the last one.
"Jeong Jaehyun, but you recently changed your name to Yoonoh. Is there a preference?"
"No sir, Jaehyun is okay."
"Cover name, wise of you," Andres mutters and observed the man, "Man of perfect precision with weapons, never missing a shot when it comes to guns or knives. Excelled well in the special forces, and now you're here as a ground agent? Yet as far as I'm concerned, you're not so charming with words, leading to bad success with your targets."
Jaehyun's expression paled, looking down a little embarrassed, "I'm sorry sir."
"No need to apologize, you're just in the wrong profession," Andres retorts, "Sniper from now on."
Jaehyun snaps his head up, just as Andres looks at the three, "Exquisite and unique skills, and surprisingly in the wrong category. Not anymore. From now on, you three will be in charge of your team in your field throughout this training period, understood?"
The three men were definitely not expecting that at all, but Andres didn't wait around for their response, only looks at the rest of the cadets with a firm expression.
"Many of you are in the same situation, amazing skills but in the wrong places. I don't have any fucking idea who set you up for failure, but while I'm here, you're going to stick with what you're fucking good at and not hide away like a little bitch," Eunwoo bites his lip and looks down, "When I'm through with everyone, you will be the best field agents that the world will ever see, and no one, I mean no one, will catch you so easily. Understood?"
"Yes sir."
"UNDERSTOOD?"
"YES SIR!"
Andres grins slowly, nodding, "Then let's get to work."
Training was far more intense than anyone would've anticipated it, and Andres walked out of that training room feeling satisfied. He stood outside the door as the drained cadets exit the room, dragging themselves or each other to wherever they need to go. Sure, he did include Jungkook's little work out routines of what he had in mind to do with them, but Andres added a little more flavor into it.
They'll be fine in a month from now with more practice.
"Sir."
Andres turns his head to see Eunwoo standing in front of him, panting heavily from the work out, but still managing to hold himself upright for his boss.
The guy is so useless when it comes to physical strength, he doesn't have a tough bone in his body. However, he is agile, so that is useful to say the least. With more practice, and the skills he already has, he will be incredibly lethal.
Perhaps Andres would recruit him to his empire if he keeps up the good work.
Ha, as if it's that possible.
"Yes Cadet Cha."
Eunwoo catches his breath and finally manages to relax, looking at him perplexed, "I don't think I will be a good candidate as a field agent sir," Andres's expression falls, "I'll be more useful staying here in the office and working from afar. But to do things myself? I..... I'm not cut out for it."
"Why do you believe that?"
"Because..... Because there's so many other cadets better than me," Ah, insecurity, "And what if I get discovered, and then I will be in risk? I could potential put everyone at risk because of my lack of skills. I'm just good with technology and science, everything else from there I lack on-"
"Eunwoo," Andres spoke firmly, "In this life, there will always be someone better than you. There will always be someone stronger, faster, and possibly more skilled than you are. But, do you think they will ever be the computer genius that you are? Would they every be able to create a substance in seconds to kill anyone? Do you think they even know how to properly make cocaine as you can? No, that's why I chose you to be the leader."
"But.... I don't deserve it. I.... Hongjoong is so much better with hacking and-"
Andres places a hand on Eunwoo's shoulder, firmly, "Start having confidence in yourself cadet. I don't know what kind of fucked up mind game you play in your head to downplay your achievements, but you need to start catching up before someone else takes advantage and really make you feel as useless as you see yourself now. Trust in my selection skills, now you do the rest to be better than all those fuckers out there, got it?"
Eunwoo frowns, doubtful still, "And if I fail?"
"You won't."
"Why are you so sure of that?"
"Because.... By the time I'm through with you, failure won't be an option."
Something in Eunwoo's eyes illuminated by the words, perhaps a glimmer of hope or a dust of faith that once never existed. Clearly he has had his dreams crushed multiple times in the past with his skills, but now that won't be the case.
As Andres promised, once he's done with him, he'll be unrecognizable.
A perfect agent.
"Thank you sir."
Andres only briefly nods at him as Eunwoo turns around and walks away. Andres watches with a puzzled stare, now grateful that practice ended so he can focus on-
"Chief Jeon Jungkook."
Fuck me.
Andres moves his gaze to the side, meeting the wide eyes of the Counterintelligence chief.
Choi Minho.
"Here to inform you that your husband Kim Taehyung is waiting for you by the entrance. He brought coffee for you."
Andres twitches an eye and checks his watch, noticing how he still has enough time to do his own personal investigation, and perhaps with a cup of coffee would wake him up a little more.
Okay, Taehyung has good timing.
Nodding back to Minho, Andres didn't say anything and kept it moving. The easy thing about being Jungkook is his impoliteness to other people, well except for Taehyung. To everyone else, he keeps his emotions in check and doesn't entertain anyone in pointless conversations.
For Andres, that's luck on his side.
Moving through the monitors of security, Andres moves his gaze around the lobby until his eyes settled on the blonde-haired male with two cups in hand - looking around slowly as he breathes in the building, as though this is the first time he has ever stepped foot in here. He's looking quite formal, just like when Andres saw him at the funeral, but with a pea coat over his shoulders to the coldness that's embarking outside.
This suits him better, formality.
It draws in a lot of attention, while still holding onto a tough aura for others to not get any closer to his presence.
It makes him much more intriguing to watch from afar.
But unfortunately, whenever he's around Jungkook, that quickly shatters into a soft light of joy like a cotton candy unicorn.
It cringes Andres's soul, just like how it is now.
Taehyung found him approaching him, and immediately a wide smile beamed his expression that was just as illuminating as his blonde hair.
Andres's forces a smile, right when Taehyung raised up the two cups, "Hot vanilla americano, just as you like it. I got the same order, so can choose which cup you want."
Finally, some coffee.
Andres didn't hesitate on taking the one on his right hand, glancing to the cup and back to Taehyung - who is watching him closely as Andress took the cup, but then smiles when their eyes met.
"Thank you, little cub, I needed this after training today."
Taehyung continues to smile, one that subtly drops when Andres raised up the cup to drink it, and Taehyung reaches out before Andres's lips could touch the cap, "Oh um, I think this might be mine. I took a sip of it earlier, here."
He switched their cups, making Andres furrow his eyebrows - confused, "We're married, I don't think it matters whether I sip on it or not if you already did."
"Habit," Taehyung beams with a shrug, sipping from his cup while the taste of lemon tea caressing his tongue, "Off at the same time?"
Andres took a sip of his drink, tasting the bitter coffee on his tongue, "Yup. I'm surprised you're here. Thought you'd be at work."
"Decided to get off early," Taehyung sighs, stepping closer to him with a giddily smile, "I just couldn't wait to see you. I barely saw you yesterday after church."
That's because aside from working, Andres was doing his best in avoiding him.
He's done enough as it is with his brother's husband, he doesn't need another list of reasons as to why he's a fuck up.
"I'm sorry, I'll make it up later," Andres winks, making Taehyung blush just slightly, "Anyways, I have to get back to work, I'll see you at home."
"Okay."
Andres turns around, ready to walk until Taehyung suddenly asked, "Aren't you missing something?"
In a matter of seconds, Andres went over in his head of all the things Jungkook has told him to do when it comes to Taehyung.
He called him that stupid nickname.
He assured him of see him at home soon.
What else-
Taehyung taps his lips as Andres turns around, pouting.
No... Jungkook never mentioned about PDA.
He doesn't like to be openly affectionate in public, he perfers doing that in private, espeically when it comes to kissing.
Even Taehyung has previously stated that Jungkook doesn't do PDA.
Is this a trick?
Andres narrows his eye and steps closer to him, "You know how I feel about PDA."
"One time won't hurt?"
Taehyung's smile is sweet and tender, and Andres only did him the small favor by pecking his cheek instead.
Tasting the faint flavor of lemon tea on the corner of his lips.
Tea?
Andres glanced down to Taehyung's cup as his lips remained on his skin, the aroma slowly caressing his nose as he pulls away slowly, not smelling the scent of coffee as he was expecting.
Tea.
He's not drinking coffee, that's why he switched the cups.
Then why did he lie saying the two were coffee? Why did he let Andres take the incorrect one at first?
Taehyung giggles and waves at him, "I'll see you at home!"
Andres smiles as he waves at him back, watching as Taehyung turns around and exits the building - not noticing how Taehyung smile immediately drops to a frown as he exits out of the door.
After making sure he was out of sight, Andres looks at his coffee cup and turns around to go through security after flashing his badge, throwing the cup at a random trash bin with a scowl.
Tea...
Taehyung doesn't trust him.
It is confirmed now, Taehyung is suspicious of him.
And Andres will make sure to tighten his blindfold to conceal his identity, even if it means betraying his brother.
