Chapter 9

Blackwall and yourself walk along the frozen lake. Upon hearing some lightning from the breach, Blackwall and yourself look up at it. You think nothing of it and continue on. However, you only make it a few metres before noticing Blackwall's lack of presence behind you. You turn to him to see him fully facing the breach, awestruck by it.

Blackwall: Maker, look at it. So much easier to ignore when it's far away...And you said you actually walked out of it...?

You look at the breach then back at Blackwall.

(Y/n): I've survived worse. Nothing to crow about.

Blackwall eyes you suspiciously.

Blackwall: Nothing to crow about? Do people normally fall out of the sky where you're from?

You ponder on his question. His suspicion turns to concern.

Blackwall: The fact that you're thinking about it right now has me worried.

You wave it off and nod your head.

(Y/n): Sorry. Let's just say prey did tend to ambush me in some situations. Ironic huh? Going from Hunter to Hunted almost immediately.

Blackwall raises a brow.

Blackwall: With the way I saw you fight, I wouldn't have taken you as a Hunter...

You hum at his observation.

Blackwall: Just one question then. How do you fit in with all this?

He asks, trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together. This question prompts you to raise your left hand and remove the glove revealing the green mark in your palm.

(Y/n): This.

You show off the mark which causes Blackwall to slightly back up and go wide eyed.

Blackwall: Makers Breath...

You cover the mark back up and continue on.

(Y/n): Everyone says it's a gift from Andraste herself. Dubbing me as 'The Herald of Andraste.'

Blackwall walks beside you and keeps your pace.

Blackwall: How does that title make you feel?

You look up as you think of a way to answer his question. You come to a hill that overlooks Haven. You stare at the sanctuary that is filled with people who have faith in you and the inquisition.

(Y/n): Some look at me and expect greatness. Other's digress....It's all been a whirlwind. It's hard to say where I fit.

Blackwall nods at your answer.

Blackwall: I guess we'll have to figure that out. For me, I'll be satisfied so long as we find the bastards that killed the Divine. They owe us some answers.

You continue on but take Blackwall's words to heart. It would be nice to have some answers for once, especially an answer to how you arrived in this land.

The both of you finally make it to the gates. You're immediately welcomed back by Cassandra and Commander Cullen.

Cassandra: You're back!

Cullen looks at Blackwall with a raised brow.

Cullen: With a new face as well...

Blackwall stands up straight.

Blackwall: Warden Blackwall, sir and Ma'am.

Cullen's eyes widen.

Cullen: The Grey Warden? So the scouts did find-

Cullen cut himself short as he looks at you as you glare at him.

Cullen: I-uh...

You shook your head.

(Y/n): Cullen. It's okay, I already know. I'm not mad or anything.

You reassure the commander which causes him to sigh in relief.

Cassandra: He had good intentions, Inquisitor. I assure you.

Cassandra says further defending Cullen's actions which just cause you to put your hands up and motion for her to relax.

(Y/n): Cass, it's okay. Really. Honestly if they hadn't gone to get him then I might have been toast an hours ago. If anything is to come out of this, it's that I owe Cullen one.

You finish and give a slap on Cullen's arm and shooting him with a smile before heading into Haven. Cullen, Blackwall and Cassandra watch you walk off. Cullen raises a brow and looks at Cassandra.

Cullen: Did he just call you...Cass?

He questions Cassandra who looks away with an embarrassed expression plastered on her face.

As you arrive at your cabin, you see Doll sitting on your bed. Her head slowly turns to you as you drop your equipment ok a table and begin to clean them.

Doll: ...You seem distraught Hunter...

Doll points out which causes you to halt your progress on cleaning your weapon. You gently place down the wet rag and cloth.

(Y/n): What makes you say that...?

You ask out of curiosity as Doll stands and approaches you.

Doll: Forgive me, but usually when someone makes an unintentional mistake. It means something is bothering them.

You raise a brow and tuen your body to look at her.

(Y/n): Unintentional mistake...?

You question. Doll nods and points to the cloth in your hand.

Doll: For example, the one called Vivienne came to visit earlier and gave that to me to give to you, along with the giant wooden tub that we now have access to.

You only get more confused and look around the corner to see the for-mentioned wooden tub.

(Y/n): Wait...so what I'm holding is...

Doll nods and you just rub your temples. Silence fills the air as you go to the bucket of water that you were using to clean your weapons and start to clean the bathing rag.

(Y/n): Did she say why she gave this to me...?

Doll hummed then with a slight smile, answers your question.

Doll: She said it was to help you rid the stench of blood that followed you around.

You look at Doll offended. Before protesting, you smell yourself and gag. She wasn't wrong.

(Y/n): I guess the weapons could wait. Self care wouldn't hurt or kill me I guess.

Doll stands and walks out to give you some privacy. You've always liked that about her. A sort of silent understanding between the two of you.

You undress and feel the water. It's still warm. Which was curious seeing as how this land is covered in snow. However, you remember that magic exists in this world so it shouldn't come as a surprise. You get in slowly, your legs recoiling back before settling into the temperature. You grab the bucket next to the tub and fill it with the water inside the tub. You wash it over your head and let out a gasp of air and wipe the water from your eyes. As you do, you see Vivienne looking at you with a smile as she leans on the window. You gasp and drop down.

(Y/n): What the hell are you doing?!

Vivienne giggles and crosses her arms.

Vivienne: Relax darling, I only just arrived. With news as well.

You slowly ease up and lean against the side of the tub, closest to the window.

(Y/n): I'm listening...

Vivienne: Our scouts have secured a path to Redcliffe, where we are to meet back up with Grand enchanter Fiona.

You nod. You admit it feels weird hearing the word 'secure'. Not something you've been used to yet.

Vivienne: Once you dry off, Cassandra, Varric and I are ready to head off to the Hinterlands.

You stand up slightly only showing your torso filled with cuts and scars. You turn your back on Vivienne where she sees more on your back.

Vivienne: Your body sure has endured a lot, darling. I could have the best healer in the lands come and take a look at them. Of course, won't be able to do much about the dents left in the skin but at least they won't be an eyesore.

She suggests which cause you to glance at her before during your hair.

(Y/n): That won't be necessary...the scars I have are just a reminder of who I have become. Also, to remind me to be better than what I was.

Vivienne gives a disapproving look directed at you. You didn't take notice as you wiped your face then look at her.

(Y/n): I'll be with your three shortly.

You tell her which she nods and leaves the window. You make sure she's gone before getting out of the tub and drying the rest of yourself off. As you dry yourself off, your eye catches a glimpse at the music box in your old clothes pocket. You find yourself staring at it for what felt like hours, pondering on recent events.

(Y/n): First the cleric beast, then the hunt mob in Val Royeaux...and now Father Gascoigne...why have these nightmares come to this world...

Your thought process is interrupted by Vivienne again as she had knocked on the door.

Vivienne: Oh and dear.

You hear her call out from behind the front door.

Vivienne: ....Congratulations!

She coyly says and takes her leave.

You look at the door then at your body before realising the certain part she was congratulating you on.

(Y/n): ...Women.

A few minutes later, Varric, Cassandra and Vivienne are seen waiting by the front gate. They look to see you wearing different clothing than you usually wear.

Your weapons are the burial blade and Ludwig's Holy Blade. Your firearm being the Repeating Pistol.

Varric: You look like a beggar who just got handed a bag of coin.

Varric jokes which cause you to pull down your face mask.

(Y/n): Ha Ha. Fuck you.

Cassandra just roles her eyes.

Cassandra: Men..

After checking your supplies, all three of you head off to the Hinterlands for Redcliffe. Hopefully this whole mess is only a hop and skip away.
