Chapter 2

You and Cassandra slowly walked on the frozen river hoping not to break the ice and fall in.

Cassandra: The ice up ahead is more thicker. We should not need to worry any longer up to that point.

You looked at her but then slipped and fell on your ass. You groaned and sat up and looked at Cassandra

(Y/n): How are you not slipping on this Ice??

Cassandra shrugged and helped you up.

Cassandra: I guess when on the battlefield and helping carriages cross frozen rivers such as this...I just don't pay much mind to it.

(Y/n): Clear mind huh? Smart.

You and Cassandra got to the thicker part and began walking. You felt Cassandra put her hand on your shoulder and looked at her.

Cassandra: There.

You look to see more demons patrolling the area. You and Cassandra approache the demons weilding your weapons.

Cassandra: If we flank them, we may gain an advantage.

You nod and charge at one cutting it down quickly then help Cassandra.

Cassandra: You fight like you've faced demons before.

You approach a corpse and check his pulse. You shake your head and stand taking a deep breath.

(Y/n): something like that.

Cassandra and yourself continue on along the frozen river until you reach a set of stone stairs.

There are two corpses on the frozen river just before the stairs, two corpses at the bottom of the stairs, and another corpse on the frozen river past the stairs.

(Y/n): So much death...

Cassandra: They're lives will not be forgotten.

More demons form. You saw a new one which was green and looked almost human. It spotted you two and shot a green magic like ball at you.

Cassandra:  It attacks from a distance!

(Y/n): So can I!

You take out Evelyn and shoot the demon in which it dissapears once the bullet made contact. Cassandra's eyes widened but she soon focused back on the demon. You hear thunder and looked up to see green energy hit the floor infront of you.

(Y/n): They're falling from the Breach!

Cassandra looks

Cassandra: Take care of the ranged ones! I'll take care of the close combat demons.

You nod and go along with her plan. After defeating the demons you and her go down the hill, passing another corpse, and back onto the frozen riverbed. Two more sets of demon attacks. one shade, two wraiths.

After defeating the demons, you and Cassandra turn left and begin climbing a steep staircase that has been cut into the side of the hill.

You heard demonic yells and the sounds of swords clashing.

Cassandra: We're getting close to the rift. You can hear the fighting.

(Y/n): Who's fighting?

Cassandra: You'll see soon. We must help them.

At the top of the stairs, you and Cassandra turn right and jump down off a stone wall and approach the first rift amidst the burning rubble, and join the fight.

You take out Chikage and back stab one of the demons then shoot at the wraiths shooting at you from the distance. You feel the presence of a demon approach and turned to face it readying your blade but the demon's chest thrusted forward and fell to the ground. You see an arrow in its back and look at a small but muscular man with a beard holding a crossbow. He nods at you and you nod back, suddenly you felt a hand grab your wrist and looked to see a man with pointy ears and a....staff?

???: Quickly, before more come through!

The man held your hand up so the Anchor was facing the rift. The rift closes. Your eyes widened and you looked at your hand then at the man.

(Y/n): What....what did you do?

???: I did nothing. The credit is yours.

(Y/n): I did that? How?

???: Whatever magic opened the Breach in the sky also placed that mark upon your hand. I theorized the mark might be able to close the rifts that have opened in the Breach’s wake – and it seems I was correct.

Cassandra: Meaning it could also close the Breach itself.

???: Possibly.

The elven man looked at you again.

???: It seems you hold the key to our salvation.

The dwarven man walked up to you.

???: Good to know! Here I thought we’d be ass-deep in demons forever. Varric Tethras. Rogue, storyteller, and occasionally unwelcome tagalong.

Varric winks at Cassandra who looks away in disgust.

(Y/n): It’s good to meet you, Varric.

???: You may reconsider that stance, in time.

Varric: Aww. I’m sure we’ll become great friends in the valley, Solas.

You look at the elven man.

(Y/n): Solas is your name I see. Also why would I reconsider it?

Solas: Well...

Varric: Technically I’m a prisoner, just like you.

Cassandra: I brought you here to tell your story to the Divine. Clearly that is no longer necessary.

Varric: Yet, here I am. Lucky for you, considering current events.

Solas: Indeed.

You put away Chikage away and look at Solas.

(Y/n): So what now? We closed one rift. Where to now?

Cassandra: Now we go to meet Leliana.

Varric: What a great idea! Let's go everyone!

Varric turned to start walking but Cassandra stopped him.

Cassandra: Where do you think your going??

Varric: With you. What did you think I'd let you go through a valley full of demons without some range support? I don't think so.

Cassandra: Absolutely not! Your help is appreciated, Varric, but…

Varric: Have you been in the valley lately, Seeker? Your soldiers aren’t in control anymore. You need me.

Cassandra shook her head and let out a disgusted noise.

Solas shook his head and looked at you.

Solas: If I have forgotten to say it, I’m pleased to see you still live.

Varric turned to face you and Solas

Varric: He means, ‘I kept that mark from killing you while you slept.'

You looked at Solas.

(Y/n): You did?

Solas: That I did.

You smiled and shook your head.

(Y/n): Bloody hell. At least now I don't have to run around and search for my saviour. Thanks.

You shake his hand in which he returns the gesture.

Solas: Cassandra, you should know: the magic involved here is unlike any I have ever seen. Your prisoner is no mage. Indeed, I find it difficult to imagine any mage having such power.

You cut in.

(Y/n): Okay I have one request from all of you. My name is (Y/n).

Solas: (Y/n)? Very well. I guess prisoner is a little harsh when referring to a person.

Varric: Thank you!

Cassandra: We must get to the forward camp quickly.

Varric: Well, Bianca’s excited!

You look at him.

(Y/n): Your crossbow?

Varric: Yep.

Varric's attention turned towards your pistol.

Varric: what is that handy looking gadget on your belt?

This got everyones attention.

Solas: I'm also interested in it. It shoots fire but sounds like thunder. What is it?

You pull out Evelyn.

(Y/n): This is Evelyn. She's my firearm.

Solas: interesting.

You nod and take out a bullet.

(Y/n): This is shot out of it. Bullets, small, but effective.

Varric: wow.

You pull out silver bullets.

(Y/n): I use these for...monsters and demons thay would be weak to silver.

Varric: like werewolves?

(Y/n): Exactly...you guys don't have werewolves right?

Solas: No.

You sigh in relief. Suddenly the sky cracked again and you felt you mark light up making you drop Evelyn. You grasped your wrist and took a deep breath.

Solas: We must move quickly.

You nod in agreement and pick up Evelyn. You, Cassandra and your new companions started to move through the valley.

Timeskip~

After taking care of more demons and Varric asking about where you were from and you tried to make up a story. You and your three companions walk up to another fade rift that is just outside of the gate to where you needed to get into. The rift shoots three energy beams out of it as more demons appear.

After defeating them you close the second fade rift.

Cassandra: The rift is gone! Open the gate!

Soldier: Right away, Lady Cassandra!

Solas: We are clear for the moment. Well done.

Varric: Whatever that thing on your hand is, it’s useful.

As you approach you notice Leliana arguing with a man in a white robe.

Leliana: We must prepare the soldiers!

???: We will do no such thing.

Leliana: The prisoner must get to the Temple of Sacred Ashes. It is our only chance!

???: You have already caused enough trouble without resorting to this exercise in futility.

Leliana: I have caused trouble?

???: You, Cassandra, the Most Holy – haven’t you all done enough already?

Leliana: You’re not in command here!

Roderick: Enough! I will not have it!

Once you reach Leliana and the man, they take notice of your presence quickly.

Roderick: Ah, here they come.

Leliana: You made it. Chancellor Roderick, this is–

Roderick: I know who he is. As Grand Chancellor of the Chantry, I hereby order you to take this criminal to Val Royeaux to face execution.

Cassandra: Order me? You are a glorified clerk. A bureaucrat!

Roderick: And you are a thug, but a thug who supposedly serves the Chantry!

Leliana: We serve the Most Holy, Chancellor, as you well know.

Roderick: Justinia is dead! We must elect her replacement, and obey her orders on the matter.

(Y/n): So none of you are actually in charge here.

Roderick scowled at you.

Roderick: You killed everyone who was in charge!

Roderick looked at Cassandra.

Roderick: Call a retreat, Seeker. Our position here is hopeless.

Cassandra: We can stop this before it’s too late.

Roderick: How? You won’t survive long enough to reach the temple, even with all your soldiers.

Cassandra: We must get to the temple. It’s the quickest route!

Leliana: But not the safest. Our forces can charge as a distraction while we go through the mountains.

Cassandra: We lost contact with an entire squad on that path. It’s too risky.

Roderick: Listen to me. Abandon this now, before more lives are lost.

The Breach expands again and so does the mark on your hand. You shook your hand and groaned. Cassandra approached you

Cassandra: How do you think we should proceed?

(Y/n): What? When did this become my decision?

Solas: You have the mark.

Cassandra: And you are the one we must keep alive. Since we cannot agree on our own…

You look down and weigh your options.

Taking the mountain path would be fast but indirect. Soldiers would act as a distraction elsewhere. The problem will be addressed sooner, but there may be casualties.

Or.

Charge with the soldiers. It would be a careful sustained assault. Soldiers will stand with you to ensure arrival. However scouts in the pass may be lost...

You decide.
