"You're going to leave so soon?" Renjun asked, shoving his hands into his pockets and rocking on his heels.
He looked like a child trying to waste time, but Ten wasn't going to take any chances with him. He may be younger than him, but Renjun was a dangerous boy nonetheless even on his own. There was a reason that he was within the ranks of NEO and there was a reason that Branch V wanted him to work for them instead of Ten. "Oh but we've barely started talking to each other... aren't you interested to see how I'm doing? How Johnny is doing?"
"Why should I care how you're doing?" Ten responded, slowly backing away from the youngest gang member. Though the men that stood beside him took a step closer to him, making sure they were right in his tail in case he decided to run. That was the plan, of course, so Ten needed to start thinking of a new escape plan and fast. "You're just trying to stall me, the longer I stay here the likelihood of you catching me gets higher."
Renjun shrugged, leaning against the walls of the container with an unamused expression on his face. "Well, I guess you're right about that, but you're a lot safer with me than you are out there."
Without a clear plan in sight, Ten spun around and started dashing towards the doors of the container, his eyes darting around the room for wherever Yukhei may be. It hadn't even been that long since the two had entered the container, maybe around two or three minutes, and he was already gone. He couldn't have gone far at least, so Ten could catch up to him if he tried hard enough.
The boy skidded to a stop when the doors of the container slammed closed, being guarded by one of the smoking bystanders that Ten had thought were irrelevant. He turned back around and that's when he noticed that everyone in the room was staring at him; everyone in the container was on Renjun's side.
The younger boy's uninterested expression soon grew to one of amusement, a smile growing on his face as he took his hands out of his pockets and revealed the small metal daggers he had on his person. "As I said, you're a lot safer with me than you are out there."
"I don't think I'd call this very safe, but to each their own," Ten mumbled in frustration, his eyes darting from each individual in the room.
The earpiece in Ten's ear buzzed, a muffled and static filled sound echoing through his brain as the squadron leader came on the line. "Yuqi... located... standby... where... Ten?" His earpiece was cutting off and no one but Yukhei had any idea as to where he was but was he even bright enough to notice his absence? Ten couldn't respond to Kun even if he wanted to since Renjun was standing right in front of him.
"Alright then, there's no running from this one," the boy mumbled, reaching behind his back and pulling out a jet black pistol from its holster around his waist. The gun had been completely concealed away from any onlookers since it had blended in with the black clothing he had adorned, in an attempt to hide it away from the people who were guarding the black market.
Thankfully it worked, and now Ten was standing in one of the containers with the muzzle pointed straight at Renjun's chest and his finger hovering over the trigger. You'd think that Ten would have the advantage in this clash, seeing as the younger boy had brought a knife to a gunfight, but Renjun was no punk. He had incredible marksmanship despite being a teenager and was always one of the best shooters within NEO, he could do the same damage a bullet could do with a dagger.
"You haven't made an attempt to restrain me nor have you made an attempt to kill me," Ten pointed out, his eyes glancing over every person within the container. "You want something from me, what is it."
"Your wits have gone up since you've been gone, good for you," the ravenhead praised, lowering his weapons only when the muzzle of Ten's pistol was aimed at the ground. "I don't want you in specific, Taeyong called me to action while I was still on vacation in Shanghai with Chenle's family and I'm
mad about it. So I'm doing what Johnny asked of me instead."
"Johnny?" Ten repeated, caught off guard by the boy's statement. Renjun took his chance then, pointing the sharp end of his dagger towards his neck and making a slow cutting motion to intimidate him. He won't lie, it was definitely working in the intimidation department. Ten knew that Renjun was a stone-cold murderer, not as much as Yuta, but was up there in terms of being a killer. "What does that bastard want?"
There was a moment of silence between the two and a sinister smile began to grow across the boy's lips. "He's warning you," Renjun replied, lowering the weapon in his hands. "He's warning you that you're no longer safe here in China and it's best you just turn yourself in to Taeyong while you still can. We're closing in on you and once we'll find out where you've been hiding for the past few weeks no one will be able to save you after that."
What Renjun was saying was strongly reminiscent of Xu Minghao's words, much too strong in Ten's opinion. It seemed as though the billionaire wasn't lying or even bluffing to the squadron when he said that Taeyong wouldn't let him escape. Originally he wasn't safe in Korea only, but now it seems like China is going to become a danger zone as well.
"Shit," He cursed, a nervous breath slipping past his lips. What was he going to tell the squadron? That he had brought a large group of enemies with him to China when he escaped? They had their own lives and work to worry about with Branch V, Ten was just shoving more of a workload on top of him by staying.
But he couldn't just leave the squadron. He couldn't just leave Branch V, he doesn't have the option to. It's like the Kingpin and Kun had told him, he was safer with them than he was out there on his own. Plus, he had already signed all the paperwork for the Kingpin when he first arrived. He was property of Branch V now and he was legally not allowed to simply drop the agency whenever he wanted to.
The container shook widely when the sound of an explosion blasted off somewhere outside, shaking everyone off of their balance. Though Ten forced himself to stand upright, biting his lip and keeping a right grip on his pistol while Renjun simply took a quick look behind him towards the closed doors. There was a hint of confusion in his eyes that slowly began to creep on his face, unable to hide true feelings behind his cold exterior. It seemed like the NEO gang member didn't know what was going on outside either.
"I hope you know I'm only telling you this because Taeyong got on my nerves and Johnny asked me to before we came to Shanghai." Renjun made sure to point out, finally lowering his weapons and making him completely vulnerable to any and all attacks that may come his way. "Once we leave this black market with whatever information we receive, I am no longer on your side. As if I was on your side, to begin with though."
"Good to know," Ten nodded, taking note that this would be the first and last time that Renjun would help him. If one could even consider this "help".
After a moment of silence, the younger boy nodded to one of the men that were with him. Receiving his signal, he yelled something Ten couldn't understand to the other men that were inside of the container, specifically the one who kept the door closed. They all scrambled out the way as they began to push the doors to the container open, creaking like broken records as the sunlight began to flood into the container like the ocean waves. However, instead of simply hearing the chitter chatter of the low kept conversation of the black market, there were screams.
They were loud and frightful screams, panic and desperation filling the atmosphere and uncoordinated footsteps could be heard trampling the ground in a rush. "Oh, I forgot to mention something didn't I?" Renjun commented behind Ten.
Smoke filled the container as soon as the doors were fully open, dirt and other little particles weaved into its cloud. Ten's vision was nearly completely blurred and fogged out by the smoke cloud, making it hard to breathe and hard to see at the same time. He could only make out little shadows that were running to and fro in the smoke cloud, whether that was towards or away whatever had caused this smoke was beyond him though.
"I'm not alone, but you know that. Taeyong wanted some, I guess I would say, strong reinforcements to come over and watch over me while I was here." Renjun shrugged. "It was just in case we got you or one of your squadron members slipping while we were out and about, and I guess we did."
Ten's eyes went round in despair as he started running, shoving the gun back into its holster and not even listening to the rest of what Renjun had to say. This series of events wasn't triggered by Ten, he had been hidden away within a container with Renjun and the boy didn't even try to kill him. That meant that whoever had arrived in Shanghai with Renjun had caught one of the squadron members off guard and caused a scene.
He assumed that it was Dejun and Sicheng who had gotten caught, there was no other reason for this giant smoke cloud to have appeared in the black market. Dejun was the explosive specialist of the squadron, after all, it was his job to make things go boom.
"Hey, this is Ten," He yelled into his earpiece, finally using it to communicate with the rest of the squadron. There was static in the channel he was trying to use to talk to Dejun, not a single word from the receiver getting through to him whether he heard him or not. "Dejun? Sicheng? You two there? Can you hear me or not?"
Instead of the explosive specialist answering, it was a different voice that answered his calls. "Ten? Where did you go?! I've been searching for you everywhere."
"Oh it's just Hendery," He groaned. "What do you want?"
"Do you know how pissed off Kun was when I told him I didn't know where you were?" He cursed, letting out some pent up rage while he had the chance. "Seriously man, I was supposed to be watching over you and you decided to disappear completely when we needed you? Even Yukhei was where we needed him to be and you ran off together!"
"Can you stop bitching at me for a second and tell me what the hell happened?" Ten yelled. Before Hendery could respond to the Ten, the ground shook once more. It was like a small earthquake had gone off nearby, knocking the usually steady boy off of his feet. Not long after the shaking was followed by a loud boom and a wild gust of wind blowing everything it could back and away from the center of the black market.
Ten glanced up to the sky with squinted eyes, catching sight of a small explosion cloud hovering right above his destination and he gritted his teeth together. "Dejun," Hendery breathed, probably seeing the same explosion that Ten saw. "That was a big explosion and this place isn't inconspicuous enough to let off a bomb that damn big... what the hell is he doing?"
"What happened in the first place?" Ten asked Hendery, rising off of the ground after he regained his balance.
"Yuqi, we found her in a container and tried to corner her off so we could keep her to ourselves and question her," Hendery explained, "But before we had a chance to get her completely alone someone came and attacked us out of nowhere! Yangyang didn't catch them on the camera and Sicheng didn't even realize anyone was coming upon us. They single handedly split the group up and now we've completely lost contact with Sicheng and Dejun."
"So who is with who now?" Ten asked, opting to keep out of the way of the explosion Dejun had detonated. That seemed to be where the fight was taking place and Ten wasn't sure if he was ready to dive straight into it or not. "I'm alone, as you can tell."
Hendery was silent for a moment, trying to gather his thoughts completely before answering. "Kun sent Yukhei to go find Yangyang and get him out of here. Dejun and Sicheng are most likely together where that explosion went off and I'm by myself as well. Kun is keeping an eye on Yuqi and making sure we don't lose her."
So it seemed like Ten had three options. Go straight into the fray with Dejun and Sicheng to face off against whatever member of NEO had attacked them, find and regroup himself with Hendery, or aid Kun in keeping Yuqi within their grasp. He would like to run and escape with Yangyang and Yukhei, but he was almost one hundred percent sure that that was a horrible idea on his part. Once Ten left the premise of the black market, Renjun would be right on his tail and he'd be forced into a fight.
With a deep sigh, he questioned Hendery again, "the attacker. What did they look like?"
"What? Is this another person who is trying to kill you again?" The boy immediately picked up on it. When Ten didn't answer him he let out an annoyed sigh before responding to him. "I didn't get a good look at him when he arrived, so much happened all at once before I even had a chance to shoot a bullet. But I did notice that he has really long white, kinda silvery, hair like he was some sort of cartoon character. I think he carried a rifle, a tactical rifle, on him as well, which proves the point I could have brought in my sniper rifle but that's not the point."
"You're kidding?" Ten cursed, wanting to slam deep into a wall. It was all coming together now for him, every bring was starting to make sense. The person who had accompanied Renjun into the Shanghai black market was the beast of NEO themself, the menace of Osaka. "It's Yuta. That's Yuta, goddammit, he brought Yuta!"
"Who?" Hendery asked him, but Ten didn't respond. "Ten, what's wrong. Who is—"
The boy disconnected from the channel he was in with the sniper and ran straight towards where the explosion was. If Yuta was on the premise, then they were done for. Well, Ten was done for to be exact but he didn't know how well the squadron would hold up against the Japanese NEO member. That boy would slaughter them all just to get to Ten, and he'd laugh while he watched them bleed out.
He would have taken literally anyone else from his former gang to accompany Renjun to the Shanghai black market. The corpse of Jaehyun's gunned down body, the stupid fruit roll up like figure of Johnny, or anyone else for that matter! But no, Taeyong was just desperate to see Ten's blood splattered onto the ground and sent NEO's most dangerous member after his tail.
"Hey, this is Ten speaking!" He yelled into the earpiece connecting to another channel in an attempt to contain a different member from the squadron. There were no signs of anyone answering him, static coming from most of the channels of every member besides Hendery. "Open the fuck up, I need— woah!"
Ten nearly stumbled straight into a ditch, just barely catching himself on the edge of the shattered ground and scooting back a safe distance. His hands slowly fell to his side, his brain unable to comprehend the sight that was lain before him. There was a large smoking crater right in the middle of the black market, creating such a large and deep hole in the ports cement floors that you could see the water begin to flood in from the outside.
There was no doubt about it that the crater was created by the explosion that had set off earlier, the bomb that Dejun had detonated. Did the squadron member even get out of the way of the explosion in time? He either was blown away by the sheer force of the winds that had kicked up or he was scattered across the port in bloody pieces from being caught up in it. "Hendery wasn't lying," Ten mumbled, "when he said that was a big ass explosion..."
He heard a gun cock behind him, making Ten freeze in place as he began to quickly assess his surroundings. There was no one in sight, everyone who was making their daily rounds about the black market had run away in a frenzy to protect themselves. The air was full of smoke, whipping and whirling around like a rag doll as it blocked the view of anything wouldn't have been too far away for him to see. And then finally, there was the giant crater from the explosion sitting right in front of him.
"Hey Ten, long time no see." A voice sneered at him, their mocking tone all too clear and concise for his liking. The boy cautiously turned around, slowly raising his hands in the air as he squinted his eyes to look through the smoke.
There stood the figure of the all too familiar menace of Osaka, Nakamoto Yuta. The tactical rifle in his hands was pointed straight towards Ten's heart and the vicious smile on the Japanese boy's face as all Ten needed to see to know that he was in deep trouble. "You wanna play a game? A game by my rules this time? Your cat and mouse games with Johnny and Jaehyun were never entertaining to watch to anyway."
Ten didn't answer him, his eyes darting around his former ally with a wild sense of desperation. "Where is he?" He demanded, realizing he was nowhere to be found around the boy. "Where is Xiaojun, what did you do with Dejun?"
"Who?" Yuta asked, the pieces not clicking in his head. After a moment of thought, however, he smiled. "Oh, Him! You mean the boy with the explosives, don't you? He's dead hopefully. He donated a bomb right in between once before I could shoot him and send both of us flying away from each other trying to get out of harm's way." Now that he had mentioned it, the gang member did seem to be injured. Not severely, not enough to slow him down, but injured.
There was blood trickling down from a wound on the side of his head, staining his silvery-white hair with its crimson color. Multiple bruises were dotting his body as well, some deep with an angry red and purple hue while some were tiny little scratches from scraping his skin across the ground. Dejun put up a decent fight against Yuta, to say the least, but clearly, it wasn't enough if he set off a bomb in the middle of the black market.
"Now Ten, we can do this the boring way or the fun way," Yuta told him, taking one threatening step towards him and causing Ten to take another step back. "We can do this the boring way, where you simply hand yourself over to me." He glanced behind him and saw the crater wasn't too far off from where he was standing which technically forced him to be cornered by his enemy. "Or we can do this the fun way! Where I get to drag your bleeding corpse back to Korea and present your mangled body as a prize."
"Can I say no to both?" He pleaded, batting his eyes innocently at the NEO member.
Yuta laughed a burst of heartwarming laughter that would have made any other scenario that wasn't this one seem like a joke. "No."
"Okay then," Ten frowned, reaching for the pistol in his holster as swiftly as it could. Yuta noticed his movement and shot the rifle on instinct in an attempt to disarm him of any weaponry completely. The bullet hit him right in the shoulder, forcing a scream of pain to escape the former gang members mouth as he dropped to his knees and grabbed at his wound. Blood began to pool out of wound immediately, spilling onto his hands as he tried to shrug off the pain to the best of his ability.
"Ah fuck," The boy breathed, sucking in air through his teeth, "fuck, Jesus fuck...!"
Yuta mocking blew off the muzzle of his rifle, basking in his clear shoot that Jaehyun could never make. "You wanna dance, pretty boy?" He asked, raising his rifle again and taking aim for his chest once more. "Then dance."
