Chapter 9: Tearing Claws

Lovepool

Lovepool stared at Redblaze. Be wary... Blood will wash her pelt. Be wary, be wary. "Be wary..." Lovepool whispered, shuddering. "StarClan was warning me about you..."

"The Dark Forest was warning me about you." Redblaze hissed back.

"Did you kill Leafstripe?" Lovepool accused.

"Yep. Didn't put up much of a fight. Also killed Whitekit. Planning on Stormstep. Could've saved Quickstar, but Twistedstar is easier to deceive. Now I'll kill you." Redblaze groomed her fur nonchalantly as she spoke.

"You monster." Lovepool hissed.

"So I am." Redblaze said. "Well, you won't be able to tell anyone except StarClan." Redblaze leaped at Lovepool without warning. Lovepool ran to the side, and Redblaze just managed to scratch her side. Redblaze slammed into Lovepool sideways, knocking the medicine cat down. Lovepool struggled, pummeling her paws weakly against Redblaze as she pinned her down.

"Stop! Stop this! If you kill me-" Lovepool began.

"SunClan won't have a medicine cat. That means no healing, no StarClan." Redblaze finished. Redblaze dug her claws into Lovepool, making the she-cat hiss in pain. Lovepool rolled from under Redblaze.

"I have to tell Twistedstar!" Lovepool mewed. Redblaze bit Lovepool's tail, keeping her from running.

"I don't think so." Redblaze hissed. Lovepool widened her eyes in terror. Redblaze scratched against Lovepool, making deep red gashes. Lovepool began to fight back.

"Help me, StarClan!" Lovepool yowled. Redblaze chomped her jaws on Lovepool's tail, making the cat screech. Redblaze clawed while she pulled, and a rip and a yowl sounded. A furry tail streaked through the air, blood dripping from the end. Lovepool was kicked to the ground by Redblaze.

"What is StarClan gonna do now, medicine cat?" Redblaze sneered. Lovepool opened her mouth to reply, but Redblaze scratched more. The moon sank, and Lovepool was weak. Blood glistened along her tortoiseshell and white pelt. Lovepool was getting ripped apart.

"Redbl- laze..." Lovepool moaned.

"This is what you deserve." Redblaze purred. She tore at Lovepool's pelt even more.

"Darkness! It's- It's everywhere..." Lovepool mewed faintly.

Lovepool fell to the ground, dead. Redblaze had torn her apart. Chunks of her flesh were scattered. Redblaze covered up her tracks by taking her fur out of Lovepool's claws, and rubbing DarkClan scent on her. Then Redblaze rolled in wild garlic. Redblaze looked up, and ran back to camp. She sat down, and prodded her littermates awake. The sun was barely inching over the horizon. Splashwhisker opened his mouth, but remembered his vigil, and closed it again. Redblaze's other littermates woke up as well.

"Hello!" Meltedfur padded out of the warriors den with Riverstripe. "You can talk now."

"Thank StarClan!" Snowwish mewed. "Is one of us going on dawn patrol?"

"Yes!" Riverstripe mewed. He has been cocky ever since he became a warrior. But Redblaze could see the grief reflected in his eyes. He still remembered Whitekit and Wildpaw. "Robincall, come." Robincall ran over immediately.

"We can't go yet, Firestripe and Forestpaw are coming." Meltedfur flicked his tail.

"Has anyone seen Lovepool?" Twistedstar padded over. Featherstone was at his side.

"Uh, no. Haven't seen her during the vigil." Redblaze mewed innocently. Featherstone nodded.

"She isn't in her den. Any ideas where she could be? She doesn't usually leave at the break of dawn..." Featherstone mewed worriedly.

"Well the dawn patrol'll look for her!" Robincall sat up tall. Meltedfur nodded to the dawn patrol cats.

"Let's go." Meltedfur flicked his tail, and the cats left camp. Maybe I'll hear them from here. Redblaze thought happily.
