Chapter 29: The Real Battle Has Just Begun

The two sides clashed against each other. Small drops of rain began to fall, but it wasn't storming. It was dark. Redstar leaped onto the back of a StarClan tom with a yowl. She clawed him and dealt the death blow. He disappeared, a patch of blood in his place. Redstar moved on. She could see Wretchedblaze fighting Snakeshade. She watched the golden warrior fall to the ground, and a dismayed Beetlepaw running to the body.

Redstar saw Shiningbreeze fighting a cat. She saw the cat was Dark Forest. She recognized Nightsong. Redstar growled and leaped onto her old apprentice.

"Redstar!" Shiningbreeze hissed. Nightsong nodded to the ginger she-cat, and they began to claw the silver deputy. Shiningbreeze kicked out her hind paws, smacking Nightsong in the gut. Redstar pinned the silver cat down, and was ready to deal the final blow. Then a body barreled into her.

"Leave her alone!" Wretchedblaze spat. Redstar hissed, and clawed at her old mentor. Shiningbreeze got up again, and leaped onto Redstar. The two cats together overpowered the crazed leader, and Redstar fell to the ground. Then darkness.

Wretchedblaze

The gray cat watched Redstar fall.

"She's on six lives now." Shiningbreeze mewed. Wretchedblaze nodded.

"C'mon, let's go see if anyone else needs help." Wretchedblaze turned around, and looked for more cats in peril.

"Why did you save me?" Shiningbreeze asked.

"You reminded me of someone else that I failed to save." Wretchedblaze mewed simply. He saw a small brown cat pinned by a dark brown tabby he recognized as Hazelwhisker.

"That's Mousepaw!" Shiningbreeze yowled. Wretchedblaze ran over, Shiningbreeze following. The small apprentice was struggling. Wretchedblaze hissed, and clawed Hazelwhisker's back. The tom spun around and attacked. Shiningbreeze was helping Mousepaw up as Wretchedblaze pummeled Hazelwhisker's body with unsheathed claws. Soon Hazelwhisker faded away, a patch of blood all that was left. Wretchedblaze saw Mousepaw talking to Shiningbreeze, and he padded away looking for more cats to save.

Spottedfur

Spottedfur clawed at the pelt of a golden she-cat, hissing. The cat went limp, and Spottedfur let go. Then she leaped up, and pinned Spottedfur to the ground. The she-cat laughed, and bent down to bite into Spottedfur's throat. Then a new cat clawed Spottedfur's attacker, and nodded to her.

"Stormstep!" Spottedfur mewed in happiness. Another cat leaped on to the golden cat's back with a hiss.

"We have your back!" Leafstripe mewed. She was no longer gruesomely ripped apart, but shining with a new energy. Cloudclaw ran over, and smiled, the expression he showed confirmation of his happiness. The four siblings then fought together, back to back, against the waves of evil cats.

Redstar

She was on four lives. StarClan was determined. Bodies littered the Moon Clan camp, some she recognized. She was fighting against Lotuswhisker, the MoonClan deputy. The sleek she-cat darted around Redstar, aiming quick blows on Redstar's fur. Redstar leaped up, and crushed Lotuswhisker's spine with a sickening crack. Redstar padded away from the dark body calmly.

"Redstar." Wretchedblaze came forward. The cats had stopped fighting to look. All the creatures around were tired and wary, blood clotting their fur. StarClan and the Dark Forest stayed to their separate sides, but watched all the same.

"Wretchedblaze, no! Don't! She'll- She'll kill you!" Owlflower ran forward, but a StarClan cat, Lovepool, held her back.

"This is Wretchedblaze's fight."

Redstar walked around Wretchedblaze, a dark look on her face. She lunged forward, quickly, and clawed at Wretchedblaze. The older tom leaped back, Redstar's claws only giving a light graze. The gray tabby spun around with a leap and landed near Redstar, and clawed furiously. Redstar darted around, and clawed him. They were even in wounds.

Redstar tried to claw Wretchedblaze's throat, but he ducked and got nicks in his ears. He clawed back, and blood welled on Redstar's chest. The ginger she-cat hissed in pain, but she returned the favor promptly with a few fast swipes at Wretchedblaze's back. The two exchanged claws and bites, until both were tired and bleeding.

"This ends now." Wretchedblaze hissed. He lunged forward with a ferocity unseen, and clawed at Redstar's throat.

Redstar smiled. She darted to the side, and clawed at Wretchedblaze. Blood gushed from the wound and Wretchedblaze fell.

"No!" Owlflower cried. Redstar laughed, and stared at Wretchedblaze as he died. Owlflower was held back. Wretchedblaze meowed one thing

"I will make things right!" He yowled, and clawed at Redstar's belly, making a deep, long wound. It was a wound that took the rest of Redstar's lives. She yowled in pain, as Wretchedblaze faded. The cats watched in silence. The day had been one, but at a cost. StarClan, the Dark Forest, all sides lost many. Shiningbreeze stood forward.

"This is the beginning of a new dawn. DeathClan gains it's rightful name of SunClan, and evil has been pushed back. We will mourn and honor the lives lost today for many many seasons, as without them, who knows what would happen. We thank StarClan, and we honor Wretchedblaze, as without him, Redstar would still be at large, and I would be dead. We honor them."

The cats cheered the name of Wretchedblaze, and mews echoed in the territory of the Clans. Good had won.
