Aesop Banker

Being born in a family of Embalmers is not an easy task especially when we have to keep order and balance throughout a warring race. The humans and the vampires. Back when I was a child I always asked myself, why would these two creatures won't get along and then I realized it’s because of the Vampires thirst that hinders us not to get along. It can’t be helped, that is the way of their life. That is why I decided to just accept my fate in this cruel task. 

One day, when we were exorcising some of the malevolent Vampires. I was tasked to purge with my clan today, inside the titan’s cavern while my other comrade was in search of other Vampires by the serenity forest. The Embalmers were being protected by the huntsman since they’re paid to do so. I went inside the cave where I was told that there are groups of low class vampires hiding in this spot. The huntsman who was guarding me lost his way when he was following me. I don’t mind though, I don't need a bodyguard anyway, I can take care of myself. Going deeper inside this cold and dark cavern I stumbled on one of the young Vampires we were pursuing. He looked the same age as I am then again Vampires don’t age and they will look the same for centuries. This Vampire has this snowy white haired with a strikingly majestic crimson eyes and pale flesh. He’s really handsome. All of these creatures are gorgeous and intimidating. A stunning sight to behold.

I slowly approached him and saw he was protecting a lot of his kind from men, women and children. They all looked… scared

“Hello?” 

The vampire flinched from the sound of my voice. Those vampires at his back were very terrified. This Vampire heightened his guard in an instant. They’re hunted by our huntsman so it’s not surprising why they fear our kind. A vampire’s head cost a fortune for a huntsman.

“You don’t have to be afraid” I spoke softly

The Vampire growled and hid behind the shadows even more. I can’t see them, not even a silhouette. I let out a breath and tried communicating once again

“Where are you?”

As I slowly closed in the borders, I heard a voice from the outside.

“They’re here! I know they’re here! Those wretched beasts!”

Those voices. They’re from our huntsman, I immediately took a step closer at the pack of Vampires which made that snowy haired Vampire jumped on me and was ready to devour me, I wasn’t scared I was thinking of their safety more than mine, I scanned his features and was surprise to see bruises and blood dripping on his face and body

“You’re injured”

The Vampire halted his actions and stared, deep in my eyes upon hearing my remark,“Don’t be afraid. I won't hurt you.”

“Huh?”

Oh, he spoke and such a calming voice too. I pushed him forcefully off of me and commanded them,“There’s a tunnel in the far east from here and there you will find a safe place to hide, stay there until the huntsman retreated for the night.”

“Why are you helping us?” The snowy haired Vampire asked yet still wary of my presence.

“I was… curious.”

“Curious” He batted an eye at me. This Vampire acts very human,“Curiosity will kill you, human. Our kind won't even think twice devouring your kind”

“Perhaps. But you choose not to hurt me. So, Thank you.” I bowed at him politely,“What’s your name?”

“Why are you asking that? Are you stupid?” The Vampire rolled his eyes on me. What a stingy Vampire.

“Why is asking someone's name stupid?” I sarcastically replied

“We’re enemies isn’t that obvious” He sneered at me

“We are?” I tilted my head in confusion

“Wha--Aren’t you---”

Another heavy footsteps nearing

“Ah! There’s no time! Anyways I’m Aesop Carl. Nice to meet you Mr. Stingy Ass” I chuckled as I teased this Vampire

“What the f*ck!” The Vampire marched in front of me but I cupped his face and spoke

“Get out of here.” His crimson eyes widened by my gesture,“I’m sure we will meet again, Mr. Vampire” I pushed him off again and ran to the parallel side of the cave at the very least I can stall the huntsman that will hurt them.

“Wait! Oy!” 

I didn’t turn my back and left all of them, I pray that all of you will be safe.

By the end of the day, I successfully averted the attention of the huntsman pursuing those Vampires. I have no idea why I saved them but it felt so wrong to kill them. I’m conflicting with my own beliefs but I don’t care. I'm just happy they are saved. I’m sure my judgement will serve as a change in their hearts.

We were camping in the nearby lake before we went back home. Neptunia, my city, the city of Embalmers is far from here. It’s best if we rest up for our journey tomorrow but unfortunately for me I couldn’t sleep just. So, I left my tent

“S-sir! You shouldn’t leave your tent at night, It’s too dangerous to go out in the wilderness…! Vampires roamed freely at night.” The little brunette huntsman warned me

“Your name is Eli, right?” I averted the topic,“You’re a new huntsman. You’re quite brave for taking such a task.”

“N-not at all sir…!” He bowed politely. What an adorable guy.

“In any case Eli. I will just go to the lake. If you’re afraid something might happen to me. Want to accompany me instead? I’m not sleepy yet.” I offered, his aura lifted as he removed his mask. His eyes are beautiful and it’s gleaming under the moonlight while staring deep in mine. Lavender orbs.

“Oh.” Eli’s face suddenly grimaced,“Do you not hate Vampires, Mr. Embalmer?”

“Pardon?”

“You saved them earlier, didn’t you?”

I couldn’t understand what this little huntsman is saying but he is right I did save them. How did he know? I am sure I was alone when I encountered them, I was about to ask when all of sudden Eli spoke before me

“I have this power. A power to see someone’s future when I look at them directly in their eyes or have physical contact such as touching them.” Eli declared

“See the future…?”

“Yes.” Eli nodded. Then how did he know I saved them earlier that was in the past,“You will meet him tonight at this lake and he will thank you for saving them earlier” It’s like he’s reading my mind and he? Does he mean the snow white haired Vampire from earlier?

“Oh! But that’s dangerous if he visits here, there will be a lot of huntsmen ready to attack him and Eli you’re not going to hurt him are you?” I grabbed his shoulders tightly. I feared he will kill him because Eli IS a huntsman

“Nope!” Eli happily replied. Why is he happy?

“Really? Why?”

“That Vampire is my best friend!”

“He’s your---”

“Eli!!??” 

Both Eli and I flinched by the sound of a familiar voice calling out to the little huntsman, we both turned to see the Vampire earlier. Eli’s eyes lit up and shouted

“Nor---”

The Vampire engulfed the whole place into mist and sped up to muffle Eli’s mouth, looking at me shyly. Must be a part of his abilities, I’ve heard some of the Vampires are quite special. They can control weather, things or even people’s minds.

“Um… Hello again…” The Vampire greeted awkwardly

“Hey.” I smiled at him

“So, I wanted to thank you for saving us earlier and I want to do something back for you.” The Vampire remove his gripped on Eli’s face 

“You don’t have to. It’s the least I can do because you spared me” 

“Don’t you mean YOU spared me!?” He scratched his head awkwardly,“... I mean us… you spared us. Thank you.”

“Okay, we both did the same and oh…!” I looked at the Vampire and walked towards him,“You’re still hurt. Your bruises are not healing.”

“I-it’s okay… I can manage.” I instinctively touched his bruise and made him twitch. It must have been painful, these scars are attacks from our holy relics. I pity this kind hearted Vampire. I took out a knife in my pocket and made the Vampire’s crimson eyes widened in shock. He took a long step back and growled at me. He must have thought I would use this sacred knife to attack him. I chuckled and slashed my hand

“HUWAAAHH! Sir! Why would you do that!?” Eli screamed in panic

“It’s alright.” I gave Eli a pat on the head and turned to the Vampire,“Come on. Drink some”

“Are you insane!?” The Vampire angrily replied

“Not at all. I trust you don’t worry. Drink up”

“Trust…? You ARE insane.” 

“Perhaps. Are you gonna drink or not?”

“NO!” 

“How stubborn.”

I groaned at this stubborn Vampire. I went back inside my tent and took a cup, poured my blood and forcefully gave it to the Vampire. He looked so worried but drank it anyway, he must be scared if he drank the blood from my hand, he would lose control of himself. What a very considerate Vampire. I’m glad that my blood made his scar recover at a faster rate. 

After he finished up, he shyly looked away. He’s so adorable I can’t help but to giggle at his gestures.

“T-thank you…” He mumbled,“Norton. Norton Campbell.”

I smiled as he revealed his name. This was the start of meeting my soul mate and the person who will change my destiny forever.

Norton The Ancient

The union between the Vampires and Humans is a dream came true, after all these endless and senseless conflicts we finally came to an agreement. I’m so glad. I used to hate humans before because I blamed them for our endless suffering, so we returned the same torment they did to us not until I met Aesop, the embalmer I fell in love with. I can’t believe I would fall in love with a human. Not to mention, I promised to marry him too. What in the world did he do to me? Or what did love do to me? I thought my heart would be frozen forever but he changed it, changed me for the better.

I always admire his wisdom and judgement. He always manages to see the good more than the bad in everyone. It made him reach the position of a regent. Regent’s are tasked to be an assistant and the next heir to lead both of our kinds for peace and harmony. Such a big responsibility but he’s the perfect fit for it. The world would be a better place with a lot of good hearted people like Aesop existed. I believe in him, just as he believes in me.

Lord Hastur was about to retire from his position as our leader and was ready to pass his throne to one of his ancient, Count Jack, Yidhra, Lady Mary and of course me. I don’t mind if he gives the throne to them because all I care about is preparing my union with Aesop. Count Jack wanted to be the next Lord so bad but Lord Hastur has his doubts because of how cold his heart was and so do I, Jack hated humans ever since he was born, he was a wicked and cruel man and will do everything in his power to dispose those who opposed him and keeping the treaty might take a toll on him or worst he can change it.

One day, we were all surprised when Lord Hastur was murdered. Which made the whole Clan enraged and pin the blame on the Embalmers without any concrete evidence, the revolution was led by Count Jack. It was utter chaos. The blood and cries of the Embalmers who are killed by the hands of our clan is despicable even innocent lives were trashed like they were nothing. Luckily, the head of the Embalmer let me take care of Aesop.

“No! Father! Please, I begged you! I beg! Please! Don’t die here! Let us escape together! Please!” Aesop took hold of his father’s hand tightly and he was forcefully released from it.

“Norton. Take good care of my son.” The old man smiled sadly as a tear streaked in his face. It was painful to watch, I grabbed Aesop and escaped the premises

“My father… hic… my family… Norton… sniff… why… Why are we being punished by the goddess? Why do we deserve to suffer? All we did was for the greater good… hic… ” Aesop sobbed as I dragged him, running towards the forest. I couldn’t muster any words to comfort him. It was too horrible to remember. I heard gushing footsteps and I took Aesop in my arms, covered his head with his hood.

“Wait! We need to hide, it’s too risky---” I whispered in his ears and was stunned by a sharp arrow grazing over my shoulder making me drop on my knees,“ACK!”

“Norton!” Aesop shouted, I saw multiple Vampire speeding towards us. Aesop grabbed me by the hand and pulled me up,“We need to keep going or else we’re going to get killed!

Damn it! We can’t beat them, we can’t escape together like this,“You have to go…!There’s no time…!” I pushed him away

“What!? No please don’t do this!” Aesop kneels before me and placed his hand on my face,“If you die, I will die with you…! Don’t leave me too! Please, Norton…!” He sobbed, clutching my shirt shakily. I was about to reply but there’s this ringing in my head that hinders me to do so, I’m feeling numb. A poison in the arrow? 

I tried prying Aesop off of me but I have no strength left of me anymore,“I don’t want---ngh…”

“Your injury…” Aesop traced his fingers on my wound

I huffed heavily. My vision is starting to get blurry,“I’m fine… Please, live without me. Please”

“I can’t live without you---you’re my life, Norton. Our promise… please… let’s keep our promise… ” Aesop cried. I was losing conscious but I replied in the back on mind

And you are mine…Aesop…my life… 

I dropped down in Aesop’s arm. I couldn’t move, speak or see anything clearly but I can still hear everything. 

“My, oh my. Norton Campbell.” That voice. It brought shivers to my spine. That’s count Jack!

“Please… Please spare him… I’ll do anything… Please not Norton…Please…” Aesop begged. No! Aesop! You don’t know what you’re saying! Count Jack isn’t that merciful to your kind! I kept shouting but it’s unheard of. What do I expect from sh*tty ass poison!? This f*cking poison imprisoned my senses and movements.

“Is that so?” Count Jack chuckled antagonistically,“Then offer yourself to me, to us and our kind.”

“I…” 

WHAT THE HELL! NO! NO! NO! Aesop! Please! Just f*cking run away! Ugh! Why am I so useless!

“So, how about it?” Count Jack’s step is drawing closer to us,“If you sacrifice yourself to us, I will spare Norton Campbell and give him the life he once had or I could just kill both of you right here and right now.”

“Spare Norton…please… may your heart have mercy on us… please.” For some reason I felt Aesop’s gripped tighten on me and his warm tears trickle in my cheeks,“...I will sacrifice myself, spare my love…”

Aesop! You can’t!Please… Don’t do this! Don’t break my heart like this!!!

“Very well then. Guards take Norton Campbell. We’re bringing him home and as for you, Little Lamb. We’ll settle our business here.”

“H-here…? What do you---Ahhhh!!!” 

NO! What did he do to Aesop!? I can’t f*cking see anything! I feel like I’m being lifted. I’m hearing his cries, his continuous begging and calling out my name over and over again. I’m hearing bone snapping, blood dripping and biting sounds. Count Jack isn’t the only one devouring Aesop from all these noises. All of his guards enjoyed feasting on Aesop! 

This is a nightmare…! 

Please…! don’t do this… !

Make it stop! I can’t do anything! I’m sorry!

I can’t save you! I’m sorry! I can’t see but your cries are shattering me into million pieces!!!

I’m so sorry!

This torture went on for hours.

I didn’t hear Aesop anymore…

His heart stopped… 

He must be…

I don’t even want to think about it…

I want to vanish… why was it him who had to suffer… why not me…I’m so sorry… I failed to protect you… I’m sorry Aesop… forgive me…  I will still keep our promise… I promise… 

Norton Campbell and Aesop Carl because of your promise and your genuine love for each other, I will grant you of your heart’s desire, to be reborn and love again, I only grant this to a few, those who are worthy for such power thus this will serve as a blessing or a curse to you, until you realize your true wish.

May your fates lead you to your everlasting happiness.

“NORTON! NORTON!” 

I snapped back to my senses and saw a blue haired man in front of me, holding a scalpel in one hand. He sighed exasperatedly

“And here I thought you are dead.” The blue haired man shook his head. While wiping my sweat off my forehead.

“Sorry. I was having a nightmare…” I replied, hiding my face in my hand. I was always having those nightmares ever since Aesop was reincarnated. I couldn’t save two of him. 

“You always have the same nightmare, correct?” The blue haired man asked with concern,“I’m trying to find a cure for whatever you’re going through. I’m sorry I’m not making any progress.”

“No… You’re doing your best and I’m sorry. I keep worrying you.” I hung my head low.

The blue haired man took hold of my hand in his and smiled,“Don’t worry Norton. I’m always here for you.”

“Thank you… Aesop…” I looked at this person that I love, his third reincarnation, a Rorschach Physician in this lifetime. I used Jarhead as a code name to hide our identity from our cruel leader, Count Jack. That bastard is still alive and he knew that Aesop will be reincarnated over and over again and as for me, I will live forever. He wants to torture both of us so bad because of the last will Lord Hastur wrote. I will be the next Lord. I pray that this lifetime, I will be able to save Aesop.  I’ll do whatever it takes to keep Aesop safe even if it takes me forever.

I won’t let him die before me again. A promise of a lifetime right? I will forever keep our promise.

PS: Thanks for reading this till the end ahhh~! This was supposed to be a one shot and yeah--I think I'll just go for the one shot XD I easily get mental or writers block after draining my brain writing, My brain is being sucked by vampires too.
